    Today we test the best selling impact wrench on Amazon, the Avid Power 330ft-lb cordless 1/2". These somehow outsell every name brand on the website often, but we're thinking the $80-90 price point has something to do with it. But can it bring the beans? Only the dyno knows.

    I'm glad to see you doing tests of Amazon offerings. Unfortunately, Amazon's policies for "behavior" in their social channels (on-site reviews) are aggressive in preventing much negative information from being on the product pages. Yup, I was banned for honest negative reviews with test data provided... mostly on batteries. I also had a healthy share of positive and neutral reviews. So, good on you for putting info up here that is honest; good, bad, or otherwise. I look forward to seeing the bigger picture as you create that table of info.

      I bought something on Amazon a while back (don’t remember what) and there was a little card inside saying that giving them a five-star review would be rewarded with a gift card for roughly the purchase price. Amazon wouldn’t accept my reviews that mentioned that. I didn’t get banned, but I tried and got rejected several times.

      I think most people know the 3.7 equals 1-2 star review. 4.5 is equal to about 4 stars. 4.8-5.0 is actual 5. They’ve reduced their credibility massively. I’ve actually started researching on Amazon and spending my money at eBay.

    • @knurlgnar24
      @knurlgnar24 2 года назад +6

      Amazon will ban you very quickly for any negative reviews. The way around this is to leave a comment that says something like 'Battery stopped working after 2 uses', or 'It started smoking on the charger, thank God it didn't burn my house down!'. Those will stay up and it's the only way to get anything negative posted as all honest negative reviews are deleted.

      @@notanavrageloser I've had that happen too! Beat them at their own game and post a pic of the "little card" beside the tool so everyone could see. When you post 4 or 5 pics the "pic approvers" don't have the time to put each item under the microscope for too long and will approve your posting rather quickly. I've done that with similar AR-15 tools which Amazon is not too fond of at all.

      Currently a tool review channel here in Mordor had been sued by a local "manufacturer" (more like Chinese importer sticking its own label onto the stuff) for $160k for an honest review (might seem not much but that's a lot of money for a channel here, particularly since there's no monetization in Mordor). That's what it devolves to if you give a*hole companies free reign, so we should all fight companies that screw with reviews and reviewers.

If you want the ability to run to HF and get the tool you need within 45 minutes I think Bauer is probably a better option than Avid. When you use that brand battery in another brand tool you get more power, but it's at the risk of damaging the battery and you can over drain the battery also causing damage.

    Love the continued consistency in testing power tools fairly on the channel.
    Since you've tested the max output of a lot of impacts it would be nice to see how well those same tools perform at different stages of battery charge. Is the difference between 2 and 4 bars significant or just marginal. Just a suggestion, keep up the awesome content.

    As someone with an adequate air setup at home, with a good set of air tools to help with most jobs, a very cheap battery impact like one of these appeal to me, to take to the scrap yard, and/or keep in my car for roadside/backwoods repairs. I don't need anything crazy powerful, or particularly durable (can't be unreliable though), just something to go where my air hose won't.
    Some light durability testing, maybe capacity loss over time or with cold could be interesting! I am super down for more tests like this alone, especially with the idea of doing more of the amazon brands.

    You guys should consider testing Milwaukee’s 7/16 hex drive Lineman’s Impact wrench, against the Dewalt, Makita, and Bosch versions. Klein and Hilti offer models too, but the Klein looks to be a rebranded Dewalt. Would be interesting especially since all the cordless Lineman impacts have basically taken over in the telecom world, replacing the corded models completely. For a look into what they are - the Milwaukee lineman impact is model # 2865-20 for the bare tool. Aside from having a longer handle and utility quick chuck and drive size, its likely de tuned as to not break the smaller bolt sizes used. Milwaukee shockwave pole auger bits chew through telephone poles like they were 2x4’s.

    It would be interesting to see how this tool lasted. Having your shiny new tool perform on it's first day is kind of a low bar, I expect it to perform when new, how about after using it for 2 or 3 years? How about after it falls on the concrete floor a few times? I get it, this is the torque test channel so...but there is more than just this one aspect and that is where the difference is. Use that tool for more than 15 seconds, THAT's where the money goes. Durability is what is really difficult and costly to achieve. My 20 year old Porter Cable drill still works fine after using it daily for years on end, oh sure the battery needs re-celled but the actual tool performs just fine.
