      Thank you for commenting about the song. More people than not have been commenting about Olivia Newton-John than the song itself. Even though she is such a great talent and sings the song with such emotion, we should never ever forget just how wonderful and powerful that the lyrics to this song are. Maybe it's me, but many people who are commenting don't seem to be recognising that. You're someone who has, and like you say, this song never gets old.

    This song helped me "get by" many bad days in 1976. Away from home, alone, and in college in Tallahasse Florida and working at a local phone company I chased my dreams. Some dreams came true, most didn't but I didn't stop believing. I feel fortunate I am still here to speak about it.

    This deserved to be a #1 single & earn Olivia another Grammy. It's more confident, gutsier singing,, but still angelic. NO- ONE can accomplish such luscious sounds as Dame ON-J, when she intermittently records her own backing vocals & harmonies. Olivia with John Farrar certainly have made 50 years of MAGIC, (no.pun intended, together. I'm glad that 97.1 in NYC introduced me to Olivia with "If Not For You" in 1971. She's remained my favorite for 50 !! Years now. Where did the time go? 💙

    I was a teenager and a working drummer during this era, and you would not believe how the so-called music critics trashed Olivia Newton-John every chance they got. John Denver was also done this way. Olivia has one of the sweetest voices that I have ever heard, and most of her single releases were hits, and they were damn good records to boot. I am not a fan of musicals, but I went to see her in "Grease," and she was really good-------with her singing and acting. Though she has been very sick for a long time now, Olivia Newton-John is still with us, and I am sure that she knows that her many fans love her. As for those 'big time' music critics in the 1970's who trashed Olivia Newton-John every chance they got; they are all long dead and forgotten. Every damned one of them!

    • @xoxb2
      @xoxb2 2 года назад +1

      I remember that too. Here in the UK, "saccharine" was the word they used. If you actually listen to her songs, they're anything but. She was an extraordinarily good interpreter, free of unwanted vibrato, and sang with great feeling. She also attracted top quality collaborators. It still doesn't feel real that she's not here any more.💔

    • @tonyhoward7004
      @tonyhoward7004 2 года назад +2

      Music critics almost never stand up to historical scrutiny. They are way too concerned with "acting cool" and maintaining their reputations to acknowledge the obvious musical talent of certain "light pop" artists.

      Well said!

    • @philiphatfield5666
      @philiphatfield5666 Год назад

      Thanks for pointing this out. Pop music critics in the 1970's in the U.S. made it their job to trash artists like ONJ and John Denver every chance they got, yet when an Elton John would put out a new record during this same era, these same assholes would fall all over themselves praising it for its 'depth' and 'meaning', etc. The song in question was "Island Girl". To hear these critics endlessly flap their gums about "Island Girl" being some paragon of pop/rock music brilliance made me want to puke back then, but it is even more laughable today when one realizes that "Island Girl" is really nothing more than a racist, totally stupid piece of Top-40 claptrap that zoomed up the charts when it was released, then was justly forgotten about just as quickly.

    50年前のヒッチハイク旅を思い出す曲。以降、心もとない旅の友にもなりました。小学校のある伊予の西大洲駅の当時の夕景が、ついこの間のように今も心に蘇る。

    I was so very privileged to see one of her very last concerts. At the end of her concerts, she always stretched out her arms to the audience and sang " I Honestly Love You." RIP and fly high sweet angel. 💕 💞 ♥️ 💜 💙 🧡

    Released in August 1976 as the album's lead single. It peaked at #33 on the Billboard Hot 100. It was her 7th #1 on the Easy Listening chart, spending 1 week at the top of the chart in September 1976.
    In the mid 70's she began crossing over from country to pop. She was the Taylor Swift of her era. Both talented, iconic dream girls❣❣
    Had a big crush on her since I first heard her pure, perfect sweet voice in the mid 70's😍
    So sad one of the most beautiful voices passed away August 8, 2022. RIP music royalty #OliviaNewtonJohn🕯👑🎶 #DontStopBelievin
