Trouble getting your DAW detecting your MIDI controller? Here's a fix that works for any DAW (Cubase, Pro Tools, Ableton, etc.)
So Cubase (my main DAW) couldn't detect my MIDI controller on a Windows machine. Here's a fix that I found that worked and I hope it will for you too. Windows apparently only prioritize up to 10 MIDI devices.
If you find this video useful please share it and help other producers who are having problems trying to connect their MIDI controller to a Windows computer.
Hi everyone! I noticed many of you couldn't find the tool, so I've updated it in a guide here: www.audiomentor.com/audioproduction/daw-unable-detect-midi-controller-windows/
I've updated the tutorial on my website, and I hope it helps you. Let me know if you were successful in solving your MIDI not detected problems!
Man, this used to work, but the new KORG USB-MIDI DRIVER doesn't have any way for me to change my Devices. The 'Device List' button is permanently greyed out. Any advice? Thanks for the video.
@@mellowords You probably already figured it out by now, but for people that come long in the future: there's a button towards the bottom right of the device driver list, that says "Option". If you click that, there's a checkbox to only allow deleting Korg drivers. It's enabled by default - which is why the other drivers are greyed out. If you uncheck this box, all the drivers will be available and can be removed.
Reuben, you deserve a round of applause and THANKS!!! I have been having issues for weeks and this is exactly why. How in the world all these major companies selling controllers don’t know this is dumbfounding.
I agree so! Thank you for your kind words.
Why disliking this video. Thanks a lot. My Midi keyboard is now working...:)
I was worried a vintage Yamaha CBX-K2 would not work on my modern PC with the adapter. I tried this and not only did it work perfectly, but it also stopped errors ocurring with other MIDI equipment I use and I was able to uninstall duplicate instances of MIDI that had been installed by me trying to make this work by plugging in different USB sockets. Thanks a lot! Regards from Peru!
Hey, i couldnt find any "korg midi driver uninstall utility" link. Can you help me about it. I couldnt run my Korg MicroKEY-37 on my Windows 10 pro. I am waiting your response :(
www.korg.com/us/support/download/driver/1/285/3541/
My behringer m2 sound card is not being recognized in my laptop after I have connected it... Why is that?
My problem was something different. I decided to watch your video anyway. I sold my korg but apparently FL Studio loved my Korg SO MUCH it kept trying to find it. And kept throwing me an error message even when I wasn't using a midi! 🤦🏿♀️So I looked in my files and I ALREADY had the uninstall program and it worked! Thank you! I didn't think about that!
Great to hear!
Thanks Reuben, you really saved the day. Uninstall utility is now telling me my Korg driver is corrupted, but hey, it works. One thing of note: I did see some MIDI drivers beyond the 10th spot that are working fine so I'm not sure if Windows 10 will only allow 10 drivers. I can't believe something like this is a hassle. It feels like I'm trying to configure some rare hardware on a win98 machine. The year 2023 and major software / hardware manufacturers don't believe in plug and play
I installed the Korg program and followed your instructions, but noe of the device checkboxes are checkable. Any idea why?
You saved my lower back there! :D
Thanks for this great and concise video!
What about the other ones that you can’t remove. all my first ten is like this
Thank you so much. This is EXACTLY what I was looking for - just got a new SQ-1 and no matter where I looked, I couldn't for the life of me figure out why Ableton could not detect it. All the other setup video skipped past the detection state - luckily I was able to stumble across your video and found that it was the 11th driver installed. Thanks again!
Does it have Alesis Q49?
What about m-audio keystation mini 32 mk3 bcz i have some problem sometime its work sometime not work especially with smartphone. Once more its also have problem with connection by pc using windows 10 64bit pc recognise if m-audio is plug in into pc and from daw or piano software in my pc its syncronize when i touch the key on m-audio keystation but there is no sound if i click with my mouse into the piano software its sound properly.
Mine was recognizing it but now it's not working again
i got a traktor kontrol s2 and also want it as a midi kontrol for fl studio, yet in midi mode not all knobs respond, do you know any solution to this? thanks
Hi...i have midistudio2 keyboard and i cant find drivers for it...kindly help
the midi controller i have is set at midi 11-14 but i do not have any devices at 1-10 help
I use korg pa600 but there is no any midi activity in cubase 10.5 pro .and not in midi port detup too.
My brother in Christ, you're the only one that solved my issue, thank you for that! Also - windows is kinda dumb for allowing only 10 midi devices
Amen
Hi,
My Launchpad Pro MK3 is not even showing up as an option in the devices in control panel of window 10 and is not appearing in Abelton live lite 10. Do you know a way I can fix this? I have tried it on 2 different computers and they share the same problem.
Have the same problem on a novation 49 launch key pad
What about yamaha shs-500 how to connect and im currious because you using korg apps can yamaha use it too?
Yes any keyboard with MIDI would be able to do it
Hey I have a icon I Keyboard 6. And have the same problem. But I don't have a Mac to try it on that..🙈What can I do?
Hi I have purchased a Korg microKey air 25. Me too have the issue... Every time installation of its driver go in 14 or 16. So I am not able to connect it bt kontrol it. Can you please help regarding this....
what to do when my device is #11, but everything else is grayed out and cannot be selected?
You might need to delete some unused drivers for ones that have been plugged/unplugged by going into Device Manager and selecting View-> Show Hidden Devices and deleting any that are transparent (meaning not in use).
@@reubenchng yeah, I managed to get this going. It's so silly!
Please help me . My korg sv 1 driver have been installed already and was working in my daw(ableton) all of a sudden one day when i opened my daw my keyboard was not working . Why? What to do now ?
Hey I cannot get my midi device detected on my computer I've used the korg midi driver but still it's not working....the moment I bought it, it's working, but now it's not detected can you help me with that..
My midi controller is having something I just found out they call blue screen of death..the screen is just blue but nothing works..can I apply your method to it?would it work
Omg I thought I was losing my mind. Hooked up to my old MacBook and it worked just fine. I was thinking that I was going to have to update drivers on my device, but turns out my computer made a bunch of midi devices that didn't exist. It was what you said, that it had to be within the 10.
I know, pretty silly right?
friend can you help me? My Korg midi controller is in position 11, so none of my DAWs recognize it;
I want to uninstall some of the 10 midi inputs that are occupied, but all the selection is disabled, therefore I cannot select any to delete it. Can you help me with that? Thanks a lot.
THANK YOU!!! Finally the correct answer to my problem. I've tried multiple things - this worked!
how did you install it?
i have used my Akai MK2 mini controller for a while now. I got on FL studio 12 today and seemingly out of nowhere it seems not to work. The buttons light up when plugged in, but i go to MIDI settings and its not found under "input". I usually dont touch these settings so please help.
in have the same problem, did u figure it out
Hey the link to the uninstaller has no download link? Please help.
I do not have a Korg midi keyboard.
Back in november i got an alesis q49 cause it was cheap and i really wanted a long piano, sadly i gave up my small mpkmini v2 to buy this and now almost a half year later i have so many hours spent trying to fix it cause nothing is working, im finally getting rid of it soon but before i do does anyone have any suggestions on what i should do?
I have a M-Audio Code 25 and from nothing it stop being recognized by windows 10. I just wanna cry :(
I would try it with other computers. To narrow down the error.
Thank you. You have done a great service to the community.
There are no download links anymore. No way for me to fix my problem...
Change the title to Korg MIDI controller because the fix only works for people with Korg drivers
Exactly.
I did this and now my audio interface MIDI is completely dead through which I was using my "no drivers"/"plug and play" keyboard, and I dunno how to revive it so I'm ganna have to do a system restore to get it back or hope to get it back.
So missleading the title is.
And the whole explanation.
Thank you so much!! Seriously, you made my day
Glad to hear that!
Crazy limitation, but the solution worked, thx.
thanks for your great video Reuben...what if our midi driver installed on 10-19 ?! that is my problem since last windows update! (1903 update)
My keyboard has this message but it doesn't turn on at all
I was skeptical, but man, it worked, thanks =)
Oh, windows... making musicians life easier since 1999 😀 (that should be a meme)
+Ruslan Sirota haha. maybe i should go back to Mac in near future. Let's see how it goes
dont be a twat, everybody knows macs are shit for music
@@SonicFortress Why? Never used one but i see many top notch musicians using them. So thats why i wonder.
@@OutOfRangeDE you never find a mac in a professional studio
@@SonicFortress
True🤔
Even my studio doesn't have a macbook...they're an overly expensive pain in the ass🙄😒
BUT..."homie-g dog-doo" will demand one to "mix beats, yo, homie dog-doo"🙄😒
I have learned over the years that "the newest device" ain't always "the best"🤔
Thank you!! This video was a huge help.
Glad to hear that.
Says only admins can download it for me
It did help!
Thank you so much!
THIS- is such an excellent and concise explanation, thanks.
However im having trouble finding something to view and uninstall my drivers that are taking place of the korg ones
didnt work for me
I did this and worked! But now it seems like I have to do it again... :(
I followed your link, but there is no link to download the utility
Hmm, think the link died. I'll have eto create a new one and will update it here.
Just checked for you. the link is in my article writeup.
The link in at the bottom of your article links to this: www.korguser.net/html/Installation%20Manual/English/Installation%20Manual.HTM
There's no download link to the tool :(
yea theres no tool or download, useless
Hey Reuben! How are you? Any tip for a guy that when runs Midi Ox get the message "there are no midi input device there are no midi output device". Thank you! I don't know what to do :( haha
WOW. Bravo. THANKS.❤
So, anyway to do thid without the special software that you know of?
not that i know of, unfortunately. Weird enough.
Thank you! Didn't work, but I have a new tool in the arsenal. I'm trying to get a Novation Impulse 49 to work in Win 10. Plug it in: nothing. Install newest driver: nothing. Install automap with it's driver: nothing. Device manager doesn't list it and no driver found by Korg Uninstall. I've tried it on 3 computers.
3 computers? Sounds like a faulty MIDI controller issue
THAAAAAAAAANKKKK YOUUUUUU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Why is this info NOWHERE else online!?!?!
Nuendo is not able to detect my Korg M3. Followed your instructions. My device shows as #18 on the list. All the other devices are greyed out hence won't allow me to remove them. How do we tackle that?
I have Korg m3 too, it won't even show up on the list. Did you get yours working?
Thanks for that, but how do you install a device???? Please :D
Thanks, that helped me out. but super weird limitation
You are using the same wallpaper I am using :)
lazy people's one , usualy the standart theme
Great fix! Solved my problem.
What about those no drivers or plug and play midi keyboards or controlers?
same thing!
@@reubenchng
What do you mean same thing when the keyboard has no drivers?
Just deleting one of the unused MIDI slot will make the windows recognize no drivers MIDI controler?
@@reubenchng
Okay, I just tried the Korg Uninstaller thing but I'm only using 4 MIDI drivers 2 of which I'm not familiar with.
But I still have 6 more drivers to use so that's not the problem.
Hack, the MIDI keyboard I'm trying to use doesn't even use any drivers to run. So frustrating.
Anyways thanks.
@@reubenchng
Man installing this completely rendered my audio interface's midi ports useless.
It won't receive anything from my MIDI keyboard via the MIDI cable going into it, but it was working fine previously.
You really should change the title of the video to "Fix - Korg MIDI Controller Not Detected by DAW on Windows" if you do really care about your viewers.
Not all of your viewers are Korg users, and I thought just installing the uninstaller wouldn't cause any trouble but it surely did.
@@Eric-dd8bk Yo! Sorry to hear that my man. Reinstall your audio interface drivers, and that should fix it.
It's a KORG tool. But it does remove the MIDI ports of other manufacturers as well (there's an option to do so). I detailed it out on my blog here: www.audiomentor.com/audioproduction/daw-unable-detect-midi-controller-windows/
So you want to be careful when removing stuff. And yes, I do care about you. The title is correct.
is the akai mpk mini compatible with widows xp
It should be.
Will this work for Mac OS
no it won't
@@reubenchng Thank you!
Thanks Bro!
Bruh you dont even know... God bless you
I love you man ❤
This for all midi controller or just for Korg user???? Questions
all MIDI controllers. It's a limitation on Windows.
@@reubenchng ok thanks coz reply and answer my question.. 😊hope this will work for me
HELLO, MY MIDI CONTROLLER IS APPEARING ON MY DESKTOP MAC SAYS MIDI OUTPUT CHANGED NUMBER 0- SO NO SIGN TO PLAY ON MY MIDI, HOW I CHANGE IT TO NUMBER 1 OUTPUT MAYBE. THANK YOU
STOP YELLING PLEASE, THANK YOU
Thank u ¡ solve this problem with win 10 and the new minilogue xd 2.0 firmware upgrade , thanks thanks man
I got all my midi controllers from 10 to 16 lol, any way to resolve that?
Hmm, that's beyond my technical knowledge. You may have to go into them manually
@@reubenchng i dunno what that was, but when i bought a new motherboard it start working good, maybe there was some component on motherboard that was causing some driver problems, ty
Great video! Does Windows 10 still only allow up to 10 MIDI inputs? This is really stupid, if Microsoft is reading this, consider changing this... Cheers
Yes I agree with you
Many, many thanks! You saved my day! :)
Wooo!
thanks bhai
You're a dang hero
Broooo!!!! Thank you for fixing this!!!!
thanks a lot man, i just found this video after i had just reset windows lol. damn it, I knew i should have gone with the macbook
I just bought the macbook pro 15, hope I didnt make a bad purchase!
still isnt working! i did learn some helpful stuff though in this video. I run windows 10 with FL Studio 20, and my korg midi controllers wont show up in FL Studio. i think it might be due to an upgrade i recently installed. (Tried deleting the update even). Welp I guess it gives me an excuse to buy more gear!! lol
Thank you. My korg k49 detected!!!
Thanks man!
Thanks for the video, but i can't find the link to the uninstaller, only the instructions :/
Thank you again!
Same here! Just instructions
thank you
If there is a next time, please slow down the speech pace, because it becomes too hard to understand.. thnx
Paul T Harrison I get too excited . Haha
i love you men
i love you too
Woooow... Great!!
Ruslan Sirota, I _loved_ your PC joke there! And here is one of my own "So much for Plug and Play, eh!". Just _wait_ for the electronic music jokes on that one!
But why only up to 10 MIDI ports (drivers) on a PC? Does that also apply to Windows 7.0 (all versions.) And yet Apple Macs have no such limitations. But what if you installed Windows 7.0 (for example) on an Intel-based Mac? Would you run into the same problems as with a proper PC I wonder?
Anyway, thanks for reading.
Alastair C Parker (a mega electronic music fan since the 1970s!).
I think you'll hit into the same issue if you installed Windows on a Mac. Its the OS and way its built.
I hate windows! Regretting getting it. But thanks for your tutorial!
[τ̲̅н̲̅a̲̅и̲̅κ̲̅ ч̲̅o̲̅u̲̅]
You should probably put in the title that its for Korg
Ryan I it is. But it worked for deleting other midi controller drivers as well
It's not only for Korg, my Casio appeared Midi 19 and this helped me
please do not talk so fast!!! thanks
yes sir!
