Wtf I just searched for "usb b repair" and that was the first video and this is precisely my problem with exactly the same MIDI piano 😃
Haha ^_^ That's RUclips doing it's thing :P
I hope it helped ya!
Where can i buy the port?
I think the three of us may have a class action law suit on our hands. I had the same keyboard that had the same issue lmao
exact same fckn everything. lol
@@willemschonfeldt6227 Interesting! Sign me up.
I had this exact problem and replacing the USB fixed it! For anyone watching, be mindful of the little pads that you solder onto (the rings around the holes where the pins go through). On mine they came right off when I was removing the old USB connector. I was able to scratch off some of the PCB material to expose the copper underneath and make a little solder bridge from the pin to the copper. It was barely making contact but it works!
I just did the same thing to fix an AKAI keyboard. He seemed to have no damage to the PCB traces (donut shape pads) when he unsoldered. I guess I heated them too much, but 2 of mine came off/got destroyed, so like you, I made a little copper wire jumper and soldered that.
Thanks you two- im about to tackle my Steinberg audio card- I got the ur-rt2 so it’s scary
you just saved me $200 with that little detail:
Don't let the connections touch!
Thank you. Not only was this right to the point you did a great job editing out the pauses and breaks. ❤
Thanks for taking the time to make this!
Had the exact same problem with my axiom 49. Thanks for the video! This repaired it. I had to make sure the solder on the 4 pins didn't touch each other. It wouldn't work at first when the solder was connecting/touching the other pins. Thanks again.
Thanks, dude I love your honest video style! This totally helped me fix my loose USB connector on an Akai MPD24 just now. Back to making music. Cheers! Lij
Thanks for the zoomed in shot as you soldered and explained what you were doing.
My man does everything!!! I’m in the process of moving and rebuilding my studio and had this issue where is was saying device can’t be identified or whatever, and look who has a tutorial on it! 😂 I’ve been wanting to learn soldering anyways so this is my opportunity, took my keyboard apart and it looks like the usb was pushed in too hard and broke the connection, waiting on my parts to come in the mail!
Best bet I do everything :P Little bit of this and that here and there! The latest thing that is out from the norm was to build a soundproof isolation booth: ruclips.net/video/chvvXxLGCAY/видео.html
Just, make sure not to work too hot, and don't burn the board, otherwise, you're pretty much screwed! 0,0''
No stress though! :3
haha, I was looking for a way to tighten this usb type with pliers or something and what I got was someone violating all the rules of soldering. I dont do it much myself, but I liked watching channels like Voultar on yt for some hot tips. It's pretty interesting and he fixes up old Nintendos and things. Keep the dream alive brother
HEY! I have the same Keyboard with the same problem. Thanks so much for making this video. I would have been scratching my head wondering if I was removing the right solder pins, instead, I watched you do it first. and yes... definitely gonna use some flux.!
Thanks
Super late on the response, but I hope it worked out for ya! =]
Unfortunately, I've did the replacement again, but this time. I think I burned out the chip board T_T
I had the heat on too high I'm guessing.
I have the same issue just opened my keyboard ! Bro thank you for the guide !
Just got one cheap off eBay because of this, I only wanted din midi but I'll probably fix this anyway! Thanks dude! Subbed!😎❤️
I just bought a used Arturia Keystep 37 and it's USB-B had the exact same issue! I have connectors coming in a couple of days - totally appreciate your video!
I have exactly the same Keyboard. It feels like this USB Port is suppose to break. Thanks man for the HowTo. 👍
My Casio Privia PX160 had the same issue. Fixed it following your video! Thank you!
I have the exact board! This video is very helpful. Thank you!
holy moly.. so easy! thank you! I have an old Launch Control that needs this fix. Thank you!!
Thank you for making this, managed to fix my axiom 49 :)
Nice work bro!
Very useful, thanks man
Perfectly clear instructions. Thanks!
Any time :D Hope it works for ya!
This seems to be what’s wrong with my Oxygen 25, i have fixed the problem with the power being stable but still struggling to get it to register to my Laptop & DAW. Think a replacement female port might be the best option. This was incredibly helpful!
thanks i have this problem. im gong to try this fix! awesome
Thank you very much, you saved my life !
Good video Great info
do you know if a lcd display can be repaired if it burns fully, but not showing any informatin on it ? i have worlde panda 61 key midi keyboard. .. nice explained video !
I have a question about sequencing on a triton extreme and then put it in pro tools can you help?
Thank you very much 💝
It fixed 😍
Hey I got a Akai Mpk 25 and plays notes by itself is it the USB port? When I move the cable it calms down
Thats awesome bro .. thanks ..
when you solderer a plug like that you should solder the big points first because this anchors the plug and when you solder the data pins you will not be putting pressure / force on the solder points on the PCB. ( I am an engineer with a keyboard company )
This was an interesting watch! You should try to do more stuff like this when you get the chance.
If I ever do break something, then for sure! Or maybe I should do a Mic Mod next. I dunno xP
So how did u solved the problem whem the pc wasn't recognizing the keyboard? I mean did u soldered again or?.. pretty confused about that. I have the same problem on a 49 keys oxygen by m-audio and just ordered all the equip for the job.
The PC did not recognize it after I installed the new USB Piece, because there was a bridge of solder between 2 of the points and I did not notice it the first time around. I had to remove the bridge by re flowing the solder and removing that link.
Hope that helps, and good luck!
Thanks brother
Thank you, kind sir! And you've got nice hair there ^^
Dude I didn’t think there would be a video on this exact thing
Thank you
I have the Oxygen 3rd Gen that has this problem,it works if you bend the usb cable and have something to hold it in place. Thank you so much for this video i was going to throw it in the thrash
Awesome video! I need to do same repair to my axiom 61 gen 2. Where did you find the usb connector for so cheap? I found only one website for the part, and it is $10.00.
I did this repair on my own, it was tough no lie. Do your best when soldering to keep the pins soldered seperately, solder at the proper temperature, and make sure things are nice and clean for a good connection. I bought a 6 pack of USB connectors on ebay for like 8 bucks. So yeah.
Are there other problems that affect midi keyboards?.. Cause I just got this exact one from a yard sale.. I have two USB chords.. One shakes but doesn't show up on my laptop.. The other doesn't power it on at all... Is this still a port problem or something else.. Please help
Yow man, good vid...Do you also have the Steam Deck now in 2023? I see a handheld controller.
my keyboard broke just today, the usb port is actually ok since my keyboard gets power but my pc does not recognize it at all. the usb port bend up a bit cuz my keyboard fell, and now i think that a little chip has lost its solder connectivity, how do i fix this? alesis v49 mk2
Would flux pen be better cause I have the same problem but with akai midi 249
Which USB port did you get
can you help me pls
i have my mic onto the fl studio but i dont have 0 latency monitoring from fl and from my audio interface i have BUT without the effects from fl
because i want to hear my voice with the effects from fl without latency
and i have it in 256 buffer size
change the buffer size on the interface.
diy stuff, I approve :)
Thanks Homie ^_^ DIY is the way to go!
Thank you.
I have a gen 1 axiom 49, I plug the usb in and the power works perfectly fine to it but my Mac won’t recognize it and Logic Pro X, do you think the USB pot itself has an issue even if it powers on?
motheroats have the same problem :( did you find any solution??
TROMO the Usb connection has to be strong...No wiggling or quick disconnects.
I had same problem with my 1st generation 25. I bought a midi to USB cable and had to find a power adapter...boom
You have to find the 'Axiom Pro.bundle' file online somewhere. Download it and put it in the Logic Pro's MIDI device plugin folder. Once you've done that you, HYPER CONTROL functions will work. The 1st Gen Axioms won't work unless you do this.
Cheers.
Great video! Gotta do this cause I dropped my launckey. Quick note but make sure you do a clean solder with 30/70 lead tin. Looks like the right side is a dead joint which will fail after a year or so. Cheers!
Thanks! If I had Flux, it would have made the process 1000% better and I would have avoided the cold joints. I did run back it in the video, but I heavily trimmed it down to help with the retention after publishing. Good catch! ^_^
Nice video.I have same problem..can i use usb port from my old printer and then i will use it to replace on my midi controler port? Do you think it will work?
it actually worked for you?
maybe very stupid question, but does the usb b female connector have to be new? i have an old printer that i don't use, and am wondering if i can take the female connector from it to add to my keyboard? but i never soldered anything btw, so maybe, once it's been used (and soldered) it cannot be re-used?
My nektar midi controller main pcb board is broken please tell me where can i get it
First, thx for this vid, watched twice. My prob though: new USB female too tight. cable insert actually makes a nice satisfying click, whereas old one seemed only very slightly loose. I've never soldered before. This is an Akai MPK88. I've tried 3 cables (male USB-C) all same. It takes some pressure going in (already too much) then that nice click. It takes a lot of pressure to unplug--way too much. So even if I was a master solderer, this would break instantly as soon as I solder new one in. Any advice please and thanks?
do you have any idea where can i get the "board" that carries the usb port on it ?
Sorry, I don't know of any.
I'm going to do this but is it possible to just use the midi in and out ports?
only if you can get power to it...for instance a wallwart and midi would work. I had the exact keys hes working on, i gave mine away to my nephew, but i bought him a midi to usb connector and a wall wart (plug) and it works fine. Im now having the same problem with my vi49, this clears up how to fix it, but i might just go the midi powerplug route so i dont damage it. who knows maybe ill grow some nuts
What if you solder the usb cable direct to the motherboard. how would you do it? the colour coding to the motherboard
Useful
Thanks :D
There is another tip on this, I too have the same keyboard with the same problem. Just Use a paper tape or medical tape and wrap it over the Usb Mal B port / the cable connecting the keyboard. Use 1/2 rounds just to make a snug fit, and it works perfect.
So you said you bassically wrapped your USB b cable in paper tape and it worked out?
My nephew knocked my q49 off its stand and the usb came loose, its not completely off. Its just that when i insert the cable it pushes the port back and the laptop doesn't recognize it. I don't have soldering tools and i want to tighten the usb back. Any advice?
Where are you located? If you'd be willing to ship it, I'd repair it.
@@cellworx South Africa, i don't think ill be able to ship it. I don't have the means at the moment, the best i can do is find a way to do it myself. Thank you for the offer kind stranger
@@cellworx Hey I'm in the same predicament can you help me?
My guy ❤
If it hasn't already been mentioned, use blu-tac to hold components in place. Or masking tap. They don't leave much of a residue. Also you should start soldering the larger pins first before the electric signal pins.
I have an akai mpk mini that doesn't work at all moving the wire. I hope it's just the cable cause I haven't had to solder before.
What is the port called?
You smart. Bro I need help I have to studio but I can’t connect my mic I mean I can but the mic is really low and when I put it high it’s still low.
Is it a USB mic? If so, go to your sounds option in the control panel, then go to the recording tab, double click the USB mic that you're using, go to the levels tab, and raise that up till it works out for ya!
guys, gotta ask because i've been looking for a solution but i just can't figure it out.
took my midi controller to a solderer, he soldered the usb type B connector and now my midi plug and play controller lights up but Windows doesn't recognize it, it doesnt even make a notification sound when connecting it, seems like my laptop isn't receiving any data from the midi and i just cant figure out a solution!
Heat the pads first and apply solder on it, or you'll get cold joints. Thanks for the video
No problem! And yeah. I definitely did not do a lot of things when it came to the soldering, especially not having flux xP
Hello, some days ago, someone flatted my USB cable and broke the connection, I did everything I saw in your video and it worked, the controller turns on and everything works fine on it, but when I appreciate the macbook it does not detect it, what do I do?
Hey!
Did the keyboard used to work with the Macbook before this happened?
Did you replace the USB Cable wire as well?
I don't own an apple computer, so I don't have much experience with it, but if you never connected the keyboard to a mac before, you may have to search and install drivers for it.
@@OmoiSenpai If, before this happened it worked correctly, I did tests with several cables, and the cables are fine since they work with others of my controllers, and other controllers work just connect them, I have never needed to install drivers or anything, I am about to try if through the MIDI out connection it works and if it also works with another laptop
Hmmm i got a busted one if these days on my sim racing pedals its the one you use to connect to the pc its important i got it working in a ghetto sort of way but the back cap on the port stays loose i had to shim the top of the port so when the pedal if assembled it puts pressure on the port so things actually make contact and stay put i gotta have a new one soldered in this one sends power and information so i gotta find exactly what one i need to make a proper fix
Wow, I have the same keyboard with the same issue!
for my part, following a bad soldering of the usb wires, I think I literally burned the controller. I also repaired the track that I damaged, but all it does is try to turn on. windows detects the device but does not manage to recognize it, and m audio despite the relaunch on facebook and by mail, it does not answer me ...
I already wanna like your video from the intro. Lol you’re a fuckin’ character man 😂🤷♂️ What’s your ig?
haha thanks ^_^

Where can I order that piece from if I need it.
Amazon has some on their site:

How do you remove the bottom cable
im fixing my alesis vi61, i replaced it and am getting no response. :c it wont turn on
Before you do all this soldering you can try spraying a little Deoxit in there, it's like WD40 for electronics and helps maintain the connection. Just recently discovered it myself and it's had several uses already. Worked to fix my USB port which only worked when it was held to one side.
I’ve saved so many keyboards like this.
hello, i have the same problem, its first time soldering for me, i thought i did a good job, but the keyboard wont start at all. Figured i took the copper pads off with the usb...
what is the solution, how do you replace it?
Ouch. It sounds like, you burnt the whole board's pad?
I don't really know where to go from there. I'm not an expert on that topic. =/
The only thing I can think of kind of related to that, was something like Nintendo Cartridges. They would scrape off part of the circuit board that had a trace of the copper circuit, and then hard wired it back to the circuit board to create the connection using a small wire.
Like I said though, don't take just my word for it!
Hopefully you can get that figured out!
@@OmoiSenpai thanks ! yea unfortunately i burned it, looks like im gonna have to give it to professional. I hope its fixable.
Thank you anyways.

Fuck I love you this the exact shit I needed literally
Hah! I knew it would help somebody! Glad I can help ya with that! Be careful with it though, Soldering can be a pain as you probably seen on the video lol.
@@OmoiSenpai yeah I tried once before already but struggled with getting the holes free of gunk after removing the old USB port. Didn't manage to get the new one in cause the holes were still stuffed. I think I need to get that copper looking strip you were using
I see! Yeah, it is called Solder Wick! It really works out nicely, especially if used the right way!
My keyboard's screen turning on but pc not recognise it and some random numbers showing on screen like i touch knobs. Any idea what's the problem about?
I can't really give you an answer since I don't know what keyboard you're using, what random numbers are showing etc.
If the random things are like "CC 14" or something, that's part of the keyboard controller. Read up it's manual to fully understand what is going on with it. And see to make sure that you installed the right driver for it.
If it worked before, and then you tried to re-solder the USB port back, chances could be that the contacts were bridged together, or not fully contacted.
@@OmoiSenpai I've M-audio oxygen 61 mk3. It's getting power when connected to pc but pc not recognise any device.
And some random numbers appear on screen and change quickly like 78,92,102 vs. When i turn the knobs and sliders numbers are chaning. I last used it 8 years ago and it was working fine. I wonder what problem might have been?
I replaced the USB. it turns on when connected to the computer. But its not detecting the interface. I feel like I've tried everything. Can you give me some input on this?
Hey!
The same issue happened when I did it the first time. I think I talk about it in the video. But see to make sure that all of the connections are properly soldered, and are on their own contact, and not connected anywhere else.
I have M-Audio code 61, My father Tried to repair the Usb connector but it didn't work, he said i should buy a New Usb connector, Is it all the same or i should buy one special for M-audio code 61 ?
Hey there!
I would assume that all USB Type B Female Ports are the same. I did not look into specifics when I bought mines ( other than making sure that it was a USB Type B Female port, and not some Type C or micro lol )
Have you looked at the soldering on the old USB port already? If the device powers on when the USB wire is at a tilt, maybe the solder points needs to be re-flowed in order to gain back it's connection and hold onto it.
@@OmoiSenpai Hello, of course it's type B loll
the thing that happened is : i plugged my USB cable and the connector is detached and entered into the keyboard! and the four thin and tiny Plugs or idk how it's called are like broken or something ... i can't even send a picture in youtube to see what i mean !
Yo my boy omoi, I'm hearing such an annoying ringing high pitch sound from my monitors it's not just that but static and like computer sounds, WHATS UP WITH THAT?!? I got a power bank and nothing, pc and mac both do it, it's my second pair of monitors they both do it. Idk what do you think???
And another thing I dont hear it thru my headphones gotta scarlett btw. Just my monitors sound terrible.
Hey! Do you happen to have something like LED lights near it, or any electronics? Sounds like that could be the issue if it happened to not only 1 pair of Monitors. Mines does the ring as well with my LED Strips when I have them on. They're not much of a bother to me though. I'm placing my bet on an Electrical interference!
@@OmoiSenpai thanks for your two cents, but it's been bothering me cause I've tried alot and dont want to keep buying these monitors were expensive enough... I seen somebody go as far and removing the third prong off the wall cable I think it's called the ground, but I'm not with all that. I'm glad your dropping videos again regularly keep it up the game needs you.
Thanks! And Eek, I wouldn't even dare destroying the prong! If you want, you could experiment by using the Monitors elsewhere, and away from everything to see if you hear the ringing problem. If you don't hear the problem, then it's definitely due to an interference, rather than it being the speakers itself. Also test it out with multiple output cables.
Hello, I replace the usb port and now the "USB power surge" sign appears, does anyone know what I could have done wrong and how to fix it?
Just get a power surge strip (google it) and connect your power supply to that and then connect the strip to your wall outlet. Problem solved.
Same controller, same issue... I was really hoping for an easier fix. Just shove a spacer in there or something. Oh, well. Thanks for sharing.
i just cut a thin strip of card and stuck it in the gap below the port. i have a keystation 49 with the same issue and this has fixed it.
Sloppy work, but it’s fixed. Thumbs up
what do you mean by using a battery? not sure i understand what you meant.
I used to use a battery as a way of keeping the wire pushed up, Like how you'd use a door stopper, those little triangle things, to hold a door open. That, but on the wire.
I have 3 Axiom keyboards !! I would like to use modify one of them using only the white and black keys and make my own controller using a Teensy board.
Is there someone who knows how to do it???
Same problem !!!!
For some reason my son graphite m25 will legit not open up? Even after taking out all the screws
looking at the photo on the back. That's a lot of screws. perhaps there are some hidden under the stickers, or the rubber legs?
My problem is that the midi is on when connected like the lifhts are on, but my mac or windows dont recognize it. Anybody has ever experrience it?
I think that is what was wrong with mines in the video as well =. It got the power, but not the data.
i just shoved like 2 joint filter tips to stabilize the usb port and so far it works and stopped the disconnection... ill update if my house burn down because of it 😂
yeaah so i changed the paper tips for a little plastic piece to be more safe lol.. ill update if my house burn down..
Lol. I've used Lip Balm and Batteries before.
