"Work and determination" AND exploitation. And the Russian tsars didn't earn their place in rulership. They were put there the same way as any king. Through corruption, deceit and the church. Fun fact: The Little Sisters are commentary on how Ayn Rand, creator of Objectivism, the ideology Andrew Ryan spouts, hated children and didn't deem them as equal to adults. Hence their usage as test subjects to be exploited. Also the reason why Bless the Child plays in the background when fighting Big Daddies: To showcase the utter inhumanity of Objectivism.

In order to deal with fame, riches and succes people tend to get egocentric, they deserve what they have and everyone who does not deserve it is coming to get it or to stupid to want to.

Fun Fact!: The devs actually planned a feature in which Jack (you) become more and more like a splicer if you use more plasmids. It was basically keep your humanity or in exchange become one powerful sum bitch.
Fr0st 9 yes, it’d be amazing, just maybe if it wasn’t at war. It looks like a very amazing place to visit, but then again isn’t top secret? Ordinary people don’t know about it, and if the people who live in Rapture take about it above the sea they’d be killed.

Lol worst part is there was no marketing laws in rapture so that commercial wouldn't even need to have the side affects at the end because of the dip in profit lol
One guy I knew played Bioshock for the first time and put the whole plasmid thing in a proper light with the following statement: “Sure, let’s take this random syringe I just found and jam it into my arm!”
One detail you left out: Jack had the advantage of at least having someone to help guide him through Rapture. Okay, that guy turned out to be a lying bastard whose real plan was to manipulate him into orchestrating a major political coup but still, he had someone to talk him through basic survival and what he needed to do. If you were to blindly stumble into Rapture by total chance, without a convenient voice on the other end of a radio to give you tips on surviving, I imagine you'd be killed A LOT sooner. Bioshock 2 was a whole other mess, and involved some very different circumstances compared to the Rapture Civil War. It would still be a very difficult struggle for survival but for very different reasons. Since you were focused mainly on the Rapture Civil War here, it makes sense that you didn't include those details. Bioshock 2 takes place ten years after the events of Bioshock 1, after the deaths of both Andrew Ryan and Frank Fontaine, leaving a power vacuum that has been filled by psycho therapist Sofia Lamb who has basically started a cult. Subject Delta has the advantage in that game of being a Big Daddy, which gives them access to weapons and being significantly tougher than the average human, as well as guidance from but even that proves extremely difficult. Of course, in that game we also learn how unpleasant the process of being turned into a Big Daddy was. The main character turns out to have just been a passionate diver who accidentally stumbled onto rapture during an expedition and got welcomed in only to be thrown into prison without any real evidence for his supposed crimes. So that's another layer of issue to living in Rapture even before the Civil War- if Ryan felt any distrust towards you he could have you thrown into prison without any trial or chance to defend yourself. Then once you're in prison you have no rights and are either turned into slave labor or subjected to invasive medical experiments, which included the people who were transformed into Big Daddies. The early versions involved genetic splicing and having your vocal chords forcibly altered so you can't really speak. I can't imagine how excruciating the grafting process of later models must have been. But even as a human you have extremely limited options. If you're super lucky you might be able to get in touch with Tenembaum and be able to help with the underground, but otherwise your options for Bioshock 2 are pretty much to either join Lamb's "family" or to resist and be hunted down by everyone else in Rapture. Additionally getting Adam would be even HARDER in Bioshock 2 due to the introduction of further security measures, namely the Big Sisters. You can still harvest or rescue the Little Sisters to gain ADAM, but in the first game you could move on once you'd rescued/harvested the little sister and use the Adam to improve your abilities. Now, not only is there the problem of dealing with Big Daddies, but taking TOO MANY Little Sisters will also get you into trouble with the Big Sisters, giving you even more enemies to be dealing with.
@Zack Ceasar To be fair, i always found that part of Bioshock 2 ridiculous. The existence of Rapture required extremely complex engineering, the level of which we don't even have today, and such things, in turn, require maintenance. With pretty much all citizens going insane and hunting each other instead of working the city of Rapture looks dying, almost dead in the first game. The idea that Rapture managed to survive 10 more years is idiotic to begin with.
Seeing how most splicers don't fight other splicers, I believe splicers mostly kill when prevoked or promised a reward. In bioshock 1 you are only attacked on sight due to you being labeled as a parasite, you do see a splicer kill the mechanic you meet but she was a spider splicer which is considered feral even amongst other splicers. In the second game you are said to be the enemy of the rapture family and and downfall of rapture itself which is enough, but you're also a big daddy and splicers probably think you will have a little sister with you. If splicers killed all humans then I doubt they would let sofia or Andrew be their leader
Dude I know exactly what you mean about the irrational teleportation-to-the-bottom-of-ocean fear thing. It’s been one of my biggest fears my entire life- the instant death detail is comforting but I’m still scared of being teleported to the Hebrides, I’m still terrified of popping up in an ocean cave. Not even joking a little bit here, I actually fainted briefly while playing The Witcher 3 a few years ago. I was searching for armor upgrades in one of the many ocean cave dungeons in that game (hated all of them, I remember my knees shaking during most of them but this event was especially scary) and I think the ground falls out from under you or maybe I just stepped backwards off a ledge and I didn’t notice- I don’t exactly remember but I went from standing on a platform to suddenly being under pitch black water and next thing I remember was being slumped over in my chair and my playstation controller was on the ground in front of me. I think I was only unconscious for like 2 seconds but still, I literally went unconscious from overwhelming fear.
And yet there are still people in the comments arguing with the same ideas ("poor people are just lazy! don't envy and work, you'll get it if you deserve it!!") that led to all that horrible dystopia
Well you could survive it considering the amount of prisoners they take. Just don’t be an air bender at a temple. Since air benders are nomads, it would make sense that a ton of them weren’t actually at the temples when they were attacked. Sure, they’d be hunted down. Maybe the temples would be a trap like the Jedi temple in Star Wars was though.
@@mw9688 there are no guns in that universe. The majority of the population are non-benders as well. Especially since the fire nation was successful in the genocide of the southern water tribe, all the air temples, and countless earth benders. So maybe if you were in a resistance early in the war and also a bender. Seeing as there are no such things as guns I doubt you, or anyone else, would be shooting anyone.
So wait a minute... Fontaine has the ability to rapidly age people but yet doesn't use that to fully control Adam production? He could have vat grown thousands of little girls and advanced age them to the ideal age required for Adam production. Fully controlling that production makes Ryan irrelevant. Even his most loyal supporters would be forced to submit to stay sane.
*shrugs* past everything else, he was a Petty, small minded thug- he never managed to shuck the mindset of a small-time mobster scrabbling for tablescraps hoping he didn’t piss off one of the Dons...
He didn't. Tenebaum and Suchong did. They experimented on the fetus (Jack) and aged him rapidly and Suchong used him as an experiment for mental conditioning for his big daddy research. Once it was successful, Fontaine had a spy tell him what happened to Jack and saw it as an opportunity to get back a Ryan
its also not quite clear if splicer can still reproduce, I would say no. Where would you get the female embryos from? In Bioshock 2 they have to kidnap girls all over the Atlantic to create new little sisters. Jack was Ryan's son, I assume Ryan didn't splice and his mother didn't either? At least Ryan doesn't turn into a splicer and I can't remember him ever mentioning that he used plasmids.
@@xChaosFlower with "his mother", I was referring to Jacks mother. Sorry if that wasn't clear. My point is Jack only exists because his parents aren't splicers, because splicers can not reproduce.
Ian Stuart At least until you get the crossbow and set up electric traps everywhere and let the shoddy AI kill the Big Daddy for you. I once killed a bouncer by using seven shock trap bolts and aggroing it to charge at me up a flight of stairs. Poor thing was dead before its body hit the wall at the top.
@@crypto1223 I've done that sort of strategy before. Just find a narrow corridor and set as many of those electric trap bolts as possible. Stand at a distance. Fire a shot at the Big Daddy and it should end up dead by the time it manages to get close to you. I love hypnotizing them and getting them to battle each other as well.
19:25 ALL WHILE Songs by The Ink Spots/The Mills Brothers/The Andrews Sisters/Bing Crosby/The Pied Pipers/ otherwise are playing on the radio intercoms!!
As a side note you DO see how effect Jack is at the end of bioshock 1....not at all, at least in the good ending. You see him on his death bed, looking totally fine and dying of “old age” and not “he gods your face looks like two week old pulled pork”
10:28 *Studio lights turn in ceremoniously, revealing a figure sitting in a chair* *More lights come on, revealing Sander Cohen* (Peewee Herman voice): “This, is Adam...”
If I remember correctly from one of the books, Fontaine had a version of plasmids secretly developed that didn't include the harmful side effects and chemical dependency of the commercial version he sold to the public.
there's honestly too many things to die to, even regular things, like diseases and dehydration, not a single place in all Pandora is safe, that video would be hours long xD
Yeah man that's rough. I would do anything just to get out if I'm lucky and find a diving suit I'll swim out. If not I'd break the glass and take my chances that I'd survive better than getting killed by splices
8:40 I remember reading that the whole "Bee" thing was a show of ADAMs power by letting bee's live on your body without harming you. Or Botanists would use it to polinate the plant life in Arcadia
"If they were an ethical society they'd have drug commercials." lol, no ethical societies don't treat medicine as a luxury item they leave the drugs up to their doctors and patients
4:45 To compromise he allowed people in that didn’t adhere to his previous ideals and didn’t fully inform them, as well as hire someone who was capable of bringing in people unknowingly, as well as have access to the surface. He later bent it even more, stealing industry and companies which also clashed with the ideas of the select people he allowed in as well as not ignoring the Plasmid business so he wasn’t able to compete.
@@EternallyIrreverent oh yes, I see. Because they are both called Jack and in the video he is saying something negative about Jack, wait no he doesn't. Still very funny.

We wouldn't even be able to arrive in Rapture, because all bathyspheres were genetically locked. Only Ryan, his siblings and inner circle could operate them. Hence why Jack can use them and why we couldn't.

I think he missed the part that Fontaine, the guy enslaving children, getting people addicted to adam, murdering plenty of people personally, and doing the whole civil war thing was the bad guy. Not the broken bitter man that has his own son put a putter through his skull while his dream is turning to rubble. The part where he spells out that he is the bad guy, and does his evil laugh is supposed to clue you in.
Yearrrrrrrsssss late, but the bee plasmid was used to pollinate crops.... Even though they had bee hives, I guess that plasmid was made for home gardeners. That's one of the plasmids I would love to have irl.
You know, as terrifying and powerful Big Daddies are, they're the most moral things in Bioshock outside of the protag. I mean, you're not trying to kill people to get your fix of Adam. You're literally just protecting little girls from being murdered and harvested.
The cries of Big Daddies always give me shivers. Not because they would be frightening, but because I feel pity for these innocent, tormented creatures and I do not want to kill them.
"Would you kindly care for a word from our sponsors?" ~Double RUclips ads proceed to play.~ Me: I don't know if that was coincidence or if the video was set up to do that. ~in-video ad for Adam and Eve plays~ See, that one makes sense.
Finally someone explained the story with something more than "Lil' girls produce some magical bullshit called Adam, people want it, they wen't medieval on eachother, it's all under the sea, have fun"
It's kinda wholesome though to think that the lil sisters are just hanging out with the Big Daddies.

Albert Zinger, Yeah ten years after the first game, Rapture would be mostly empty with only the most determined and unstable left
Considering splicers come in a variety of creepiness and evolve over time yeah I wouldn’t survive

Well you could survive it considering the amount of prisoners they take. Just don’t be an air bender at a temple. Maybe the temples would be a trap like the Jedi temple in Star Wars was though.
What’s funny is I think a lot of us could. They get into their starting stance and I and 20 other dudes just shoot’em.

@@Chillerll Ryan's mother wasn't a splicer
@@xChaosFlower with "his mother", I was referring to Jacks mother. Sorry if that wasn't clear. My point is Jack only exists because his parents aren't splicers, because splicers can not reproduce.
