*Paramedic Motorbike* [Hong Kong] Ambulances Called Out Non-Stop! - Sai Wan Ho Ambulance Depot

- Captured here are a series of ambulance responses from the Hong Kong Fire Services Department Sai Wan Ho Ambulance Depot in the northeastern area of Hong Kong Island. This large station houses dozens of ambulances and several paramedic motorcycles, which respond to a high volume of medical emergency calls. While I was at the station, the paramedics were called out eight (8) times, often within 5 to 10-minute intervals! The paramedics also kindly opened up the gates to show me the impressive Mobile Casualty Treatment Centre truck, which is based at the station, but due to the high call volume, there was not much time for a proper station visit.

ME TOO - In truth I would have actually mistook the Motorcycles & Ambulances for Police Vehicles, because my hometown Police Department Vehicles has those same color lights.

It’s very common in HK. Some roads are very small and normal ambulances can’t get through so that’s why HKFSD has it
3:36 Description Mobile Casualty Treatment Centre (MCTC) is fitted with lifting platform and protruding search lights. A surgical room is set up on each MCTC; it is equipped with a great variety of life supporting equipment for providing on-site medical treatment to casualties in the event of major incident.
Function MCTC will be dispatched to incident where there is a request for more than four ambulances. It serves as a temporary casualties treatment center used by medical and ambulance staff to carry out life-saving treatments and other emergent surgeries.
Great catch. I only saw standard ambulances in HK. We used to have motorcycle response units in Queensland Australia, but I believe NSW is the only state to use them. We do have bicycles response units but that just doesn't have the same awe as an 1100cc police spec motorbike.
Thank you! The motorcycles respond all the time in HK. You must have just missed them. Yea not too many places use them these days, but it still seems to work for the HKFSD so they keep introducing newer generations of paramedic motorbikes.

I had actually gone the official route and requested a tour of Sai Wan Ho Ambulance Depot through the FSD website (because I wanted to see the MCTC up close), but the request was denied. However, I find that it is usually easier to ignore the whole bureaucracy and just show up.
I was only there for around 2 hours I think, so can’t really complain about the lack of fire responses, but all the ambulance clips made up for it.

Das ist ein mass casualty unit (MANV). Von denen gibt’s mehrere in HK, und die kommen immer dann zum Einsatz wenn mehr als vier Rettungswagen für einen Einsatz alarmiert sind.

@@EifelBlaulichtTV Das Fahrzeug ist hauptsächlich für die Erstversorgung von Patienten am Einsatzort da. Im Fahrzeug gibt es mehrere Behandlungsbereiche, und sogar einen Operationsaal. Eine Hebebühne befindet sich am Heck, und es gibt ein Flutlicht. Zusammen mit dem MCTC kommt auch immer der Paramedic Equipment Tender (PET) zum Einsatz (ein MAN Truck), das ist mehr ein Gerätewagen für den Rettungsdienst.
Cool, aber ich finde Polizeiautos 🚔🚓besser in Hongkong, viel Spaß noch in Hongkong 🎉❤

I live there and they cause serious noise pollution lol. But I always call their ambulances because I have heart diseases.
They usually keep the siren volume so low that you can barely hear it even when you are next to it… 😆

Yes they are all getting phased out. They are becoming rare to see now.
Trivia: Ambulances are informally called "白車" (lit. white vehicle, though the term is loathed by paramedics) in Cantonese for their typical white livery, but I guess after a few years you can only find white ambulances in neighbouring Shenzhen and Macau...
