Tolle Zeit vom CSL im Vergleich zum M4 Competition. Dass der Porsche eine andere Liga ist, kann ich von jedem Trackday bestätigen. Darüber hinaus ist der CSL immer noch zu schwer für die Rennstrecke. Der Porsche fährt die Zeiten konstant, der BMW wird abreißen lassen müssen, weil Reifen und Bremsen zu heiss werden. Also auf einen Trackday gesehen, wird die Differenz deutlich größer sein als 3 Sekunden. Der CSL ist ein tolles Auto und vielleicht das bessere Sammlerstück.
At the end of the day there is about a $40,000 or more difference between these two. Although both are aimed to be track inspired cars, the price range is significantly different. If I really wanted to beat a GT3 on track I would buy a base model G82 M4 for 70-80k and with $60,000 into suspension, weight reduction, and some bolt ons it would dominate the GT3.
Its clear the 911 was engineered to be a sports first, so the GT3 is the ultimate version of a sports car.
The BMW 3/4 is engineered to be a practical sedan first, so CSL is "Track Sedan". Almost 3 seconds a lap is a different class of racing 🏁.
GT3 RS is the ultimate version, not GT3.

M4 is a stripped out Coupe. A CSL is 100% not practical. There are no backseat anymore and it's track focused.

Das war gleich meine Behauptung, als man schon die Prototypen des M4 CSL sah, das es nur ein Pseudo CSL ist.
In der heutigen Zeit, bräuchte ein CSL schon einen echten Heckspoiler, um in der Aerodynamik zu Punkten.
Ebenfalls sieht man schon an der Frontschürze, das es halbherzig ist. Hat man sich beim e46 CSL noch bemüht, eine neu Designte Stoßstange zu kreieren, um sich unter anderem im Design abzusetzen, so hat man hier nur eine lieblose 0815 Spoilerlippe angebracht.
Ebenfalls ist nichts Ikonisches ausser den Sitzen verbaut worden.
Beim M3 e46 CSL, wollte jeder am liebsten das Dach, die Sitze, Frontschürze, Heckklappe, Bremsen, Felgen etc. an seinem Standart M3 haben.
Also jetzt nur mal auf die Optik zu sprechen.
Von der Technischen Seite, brauchen wir erstmal gar nicht anzufangen. Da hat man verschissen, wo man es nur kann.
Der e46 CSL, hatte sogar komplett eigene Querlenker vorne. Leichtbau Fenster, Innenspiegel aus Carbon, sogar der Kofferraumboden war Speziell.
Also selbst da, wo man nichts sah, war der Unterschied groß zur Serie.
Und was haben wir hier beim neuen CSL?
Tausende CSL Schriftzüge und viel Bling, Bling.
Aber nicht wirklich eine große Technische Änderung. Nichts was ein Tuner für ein kleineres Budget hinbekommt.
Wenn man noch dazurechnen würde, um mal fair zu sein, daß man aus einem Standart M4, die ausgebauten oder ausgetauschten Bauteile verrechnen würde, so macht ein guten Tuner beim Gesamtwert von ca. 165000€, ein wesentlich schnelleres Auto aus dem M4.
Und wenn wieder die Argumente bezüglich des Gewichts kommen: Naja, man kann es nicht mit dem 992 vergleichen, er ist ein Sportwagen etc.
Der M3 e46 CSL, wog in etwa so schwer wie der 996 GT3.
Und ja, nicht nur der M4 ist gewachsen. Die 911er auch.
Somit ist für mich der M4 CSL, eigentlich ein M4 CS, nur ohne Sitze hinten.
Und wieviel an der Fahrdynamik die Cup R ausmachen, wollen die von der M GmbH, bestimmt nicht betonen. Sonst merken viele, daß der Unterschied zum normalen M4 Competition, sehr gering ist.
Ein M8 Competition, würde diese Zeit locker auf für ihn abgestimmten CUP2 Reifen schaffen. Von Cup R ganz zu schweigen. Der M8 ist von seiner Gewichtsverteilung, das wesentlich sportlicher Fahrzeug in der Palette.
Aber wahrscheinlich wäre die Gewinnmarge bei einem M8 CSL nicht so hoch wie beim M4 CSL.
Also ist der M4 CSL ein Blender geworden.
Schade BMW. Chance verpasst.
Ich hoffe, man nutzt diese Chance beim Zukünftigen 3.0 CSL Hommage.

@@blitziiili ich habe beim M3 CSL (46) eine Zeit von 7:50 min auf der Nordschleife gefunden (Jahr 2003) was schon krass ist.Der müsste heute mindestens 10 Sekunden Schneller sein,weil die Reifen besser und die Strecke leichter geworden ist.Der normale E92 war 4 Jahre später 15 Sekunden langsamer 😂
Das einzige Problem, das der M4 CSL hat ist das...Gewicht. Die Traktionsprobleme spielen da leider auch eine Rolle, da hat der 911er mit seinem Gewicht hinten schon deutliche Vorteile. Mit dem neuen M3 CS werden die Karten neu gemischt, der wird nämlich sicherlich ein paar Sekunden schneller als der CSL auf der Nordschleife sein und auf engen Strecken dank xDrive sowieso. ABER: Der M3 CS hat das gleiche Problem wie der CSL, vielleicht sogar noch akuter: Das Gewicht. Der Allrad kann einiges aufgrund der besseren Traktion ausgleichen ABER es wird leider für den 992 GT3 auch nicht ausreichen. Der M4 CSL ist wohl wirklich ein Sammlerstück aber der M3 CS wird, an dem Preis gemessen (mit Vollausstattung um die 160k EUR, also gute 60k EUR weniger als der 992 GT3 mit ähnlicher Ausstattung), das echte Schnäppchen sein, zumal man dann im M3 CS auch mit der Familie in den Urlaub fahren kann. Trotzdem wird es beachtlich sein, dass ein Fahrzeug, das knapp 1900 kg wiegt und vollkommen alltagstauglich ist (auch im Winter), bis auf etwa 10 Sek (Nordschleife) an den 992 GT3 heran kommt. Ob der M3 CS dann nach einer Runde "ermüdet" oder nicht, wird keinen interessieren. Ich denke BMW hat hier gute Arbeit geleistet, wenn man vom Preis ausgeht. Es machte für BMW keinen Sinn den M4 CSL oder auch den neuen M3 CS auf Rekordjagd gehen zu lassen, weil eine Gewichtserleichterung um 200 kg unmöglich gewesen wäre, jedenfalls nicht mit den Serienfahrzeugen. Ich denke man hat rausgeholt, was ging und das ist für ein Serienfahrzeug beeindruckend. Immerhin versägt der CSL den Carrera GTS auf der Nordschleife und der kostet mit Ausstattung auch schon das gleiche Geld. Ich glaube man kann diese Fahrzeuge auch gar nicht richtig vergleichen.
M8 Competition auf der Nordschleife oder gar in Hockenheim schneller als ein M4 CSL? Träume weiter. LOL

Der Fahrdynamische Vorteil von Allrad, ist höchstens Minimal und bei trockener Fahrbahn fast vernachlässigbar.
Zum Zweiten würde es die interne Politik von BMW nicht zulassen, das ein CS, schneller als das Top Modell CSL ist.
Der M3 CS, wird sich im schmalen Bereich zwischen CSL und Competition einfinden.
Denn was hat der CS gross anders, als die Leistungssteigerung?
Und ja, bei M4 CSL hätte man noch viel Gewicht sparen können.
Was macht denn eine Sound Anlage in einem "Leichtbausportler"?
Das spart schon mal 10 oder mehr Kilo.
Dazu hat der CSL, keine Leichtbau Fenster.
Spart ca. 20 kg.
Oder Leichtbau Türverkleidungen, sind auch nicht vorhanden.
Spart auch ca. 4-5kg insgesamt.
Oder die komplette Entfernung der Klimaanlage?
Spart auch noch ca. 10-15kg.
Und sicher sind da noch einige Möglichkeiten, die mir auf die schnelle nicht einfallen.
Genau das ist der Grund, weshalb ich behaupte, daß BMW nicht alles gegen hat, was die können.
Und ja, ein M8 auf Michelin CUP R, wäre da schneller.
Werkszeit Nordschleife für den M4 CSL ist bei 7:15 Minuten. Im Sportauto Supertest, wird da etwa eine 7:20-7:22 Minuten stehen.
Das sind gerade mal 10 Sekunden Vorsprung.
Der M8 Competition steht auf Pirelli P Zero. Also nicht mal mit den Michelin P4S oder Cup2 vergleichbar, geschweige denn mit den CupR.
Zwischen P Tero und CupR, sind auf der Nordschleife locker mal 15 Sekunden oder mehr.
Denn auf dem Hockenheim GP Kurs, unterscheidet den M8 Competition und den M4 CSL, trotz CupR, gerade mal 2 Sekunden.
Allein schon von Cup2 auf CupR, sind es auf dem Hockenheimring ca. 2,5 Sekunden.
Von P Zero zu Cup2, nochmal ca. 1,5 bis 2 Sekunden.

Great to watch. The M4 lap used a lot less of the track (run off), than the 992. Braking was way earlier too, perhaps by necessity.

The F82 GTS was not as fast as the 991.1 GT3 either and it was a much lighter car than the G82 CSL.

Danke für den Test. Das deutliche Ergebnis war leider zu erwarten. Im Gegensatz zum letzten M4 GTS ist der neue M4 CSL leider kein echter Sportwagen sondern ein äußerlich optisch aufgehübschte Variante des normalen M4 zu einem völlig überzogenen Preis. Damit stirbt auch die letzte Hoffnung auf einen Sportwagen von BMW. Der Kundenstamm dieser Modelle sind halt eher die Innenstädte und Shishabars und nicht der Track.
Ja das sehe ich auch so. Man hätte mehr aus dem ganzen rausholen können und es ist sehr enttäuschent was BMW dort abgeliefert hat wenn man das mit E46 und E9 vergleicht. Da gefällt mir selbst noch der M3 E92 GTS mehr.
Was ist dann der Kundenstamm von RS und AMG?! :D

@@user-vi3mr9ro8c Ich denke, dass nach jeder weiteren Runde wird es schlimmer und schlimmer, d.h., spätestens nach 25 Runden ist es soweit.
Porsche ist auf der Rennstrecke unschlagbar und in einer anderen Liga. Trotzdem finde ich die Zeit des M4 CSL auch in Ordnung.
Aber der CSL nimmt dem Carrera S/GTS wiederum 3 Sekunden ab. Das sollte man auch nicht vergessen. Ich finde die Zeit des CSL an sich schon stark.
Der GT3 hatte Hinterachslenkung und extrem massive 315er Hinterreifen. Da fällt mir der Spruch "Äpfel nicht mit Birnen" vergleichen ;-) ein. Wie sähe der Vergleich aus, wenn der GT3 ÜBER 295er und KEINE Hinterachslenkung hätte ;-). Da wage ich mal zu behaupten...Gleichstand oder der M4 gewinnt auf jeder Geraden locker.

E46 M3 CSL gegen 996 GT3 MK2 war noch ebenwürdig!
Kein Vergleich zum E46 CSL, der hatte den damaligen GT3 im Griff und war hinsichtlich der angewendet en Technologien tatsächlich innovativ. Schade, dass das legendäre CSL Label für derartig halbgare Produkte missbraucht wird.

The amount of cope from BMW fanboys is real. The gt3 was nearly 3 seconds faster on the same tires. Drive the csl harder or take more curb and it's going to oversteer either on the track or on the curb as it cannot put it's power down. The driver didn't purposely drive the csl slower the two cars naturally have a different driving style. The gt3 allows the driver to be more aggressive as it doesnt just spin it's power away.

Ohne jetzt zum Hater mutieren zu wollen, mich interessieren beide Autos nicht, aber das ist eben genau die Schublade, wo BMW momentan eben hin will. Posen, auffallen und übertreiben um jeden Preis. Mit der Optik, mit dem unerträglichen künstlichen Sound aus den Lautsprechern, den Fokus auf die Wurzeln verloren. Das hat Porsche eben trotz SUV-Wahnsinn nicht und sie zeigen, dass sie hier immer noch die Bechmark sind und jetzt sogar mehr als deutlich davon ziehen. Als ehemaliger und langjähriger BMW M und Alpina Fahrer tut mir das natürlich in der Seele weh, aber mit dem „neuen“ BMW-Image möchte und kann ich mich nicht identifizieren.

You can hear how slow the BMW’s gear change is compared to the Porsche
that's the biggest difference. I hate the torque converter. With a DCT the CSL would have been clearly faster than 1.50.

Let’s give them some credit. BMW knows their buyer. This is them in corporate “Yeah I have a great idea. Let’s ditch the DCT and throw a great automatic in since 99% of our clients don’t care and won’t know we did it”. Do you own one?
Der BMW ist bestimmt nicht schlecht gemacht, aber eine Alternative zum GT3 ist er ganz sicher nicht. Dass er einen normalen Carrera S packt ist erstaunlich. Ich würde aber schon alleine wegen dem hochwertigeren Innenraum ( der Handschuhkasten sieht richtig billig aus im M4) jeden Porsche vorziehen. 3er/4er Reihe ist halt untere Mittelklasse, egal wieviel PS man reinpackt.
Put that 992 GTS on CUP2Rs and they will deliver almost the same times.

Verarbeitungstechnisch und auch von der Materialauswahl im Innenraum ist BMW definitiv in einer Liga mit Porsche. Mmn wirkt ein Boxster/Cayman sogar billiger und nicht so wertig wie der BMW

Se observa claramente la facilidad con la que lleva el bmw m4, no conduce al extremo y el trazado es mucho más cerrado, con otro piloto se podrían recortar esos 3 seg.
Pity that BMW wasn't able to build real rival for Porsche... Previous M4 GTS was quite a success in this regard, coming really close to 991.1 GT3.

Ja über 3sek auf der Strecke ist schon nicht von der Hand zu weisen, aber mich hätten jeweils 3 Runden interessiert, mit bissl mehr Infos wie Bremspunkten, Kurvengeschwindigkeiten und den Geschwindigkeiten auf den Geraden. Dann hätte man wenigstens etwas zu analysieren. Ich finde den CSL eine Bombe!

In dem Video sieht man sehr schön den Unterschied zwischen einem Sportwagen und einer gepimpten (überteuerten) Familienkutsche. Ich frage mich, ob die Erbsenzähler bei BMW es irgendwann mal schaffen einen echten 911-Konkurrenten loszutreten…

The gt3 comes in manual as well but this one is pdk but the gear control still looks like manual.

In reality, the gap is even bigger since the CSL is sporting the Cup2R tyre and the GT3 the regular Cup2. The difference should be at least 1 to 1.5 seconds more...
They're both sporting the cup 2 R tires, there is no such thing as a "regular " cup 2. The GT3 in the video has Nitrogen filled tires, that is the only difference
I think he means the Porsche is on Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2's and not the Cup 2 R's. Like the GT350 and GT350 R's both have "regular " Cup 2's. Lol which is a story in itself. Anyway he's saying put Cup 2 R's on the Porsche and the gap would be even greater. It's all expected. The power to weight differences are a major role. The BMW is not in the same class or level as the Porsche. Two different cars. I like them both. It did look like the driver was going out of his way a bit to achieve the times that were posted ( driving the Porsche harder ).

GT3 is derived from the 911 which begins life as a sports car. CSL is derived from a front engine performance sedan, then sport sedan to track sedan.
Maybe BMW wants people to think the CSL competes with a GT3, but lap times tell the story.

The 992 gt3 is always amazing but gotta give props to the m4 csl because it’s basically a track car based off a luxury 4 series and it doesn’t even have downforce it obviously can do under 1:50 secs on this track but I can’t imagine what the m4 gts is gonna be like maybe the first bmw to do under 7 mins Nurburgring maybe?

2023 m4 CSL was a joke on the Nurburgring. Did 7:15 when my c7 z06 did 7:13 since 2015. I can’t see bmw getting under 7 minutes. Unless they fire who ever is currently building their performance cars and hire a new team. All their shit is average.
Lächerlich dass bmw den 992 als Hauptrivalen des csl sieht. 3 Sekunden sind Welten auf einer solch kurzen Strecke 🥱
It's not a matter of if the GT3 is faster, but by how much faster it is.
Die sportliche Speerspitze CSL von BMW wird in dem Moment zur stumpfen Waffe gegen den GT3 wenn man bedenkt, dass er ihn nur geradeaus schlägt (Motorleistung ~ 600PS) und der GT3 fast 3 Sekunden in Hockenheim herausfährt. Wenn man jetzt bedenkt, das es ja noch den GT3 RS gibt, wird das Delta noch größer und deutlicher, wie weit Porsche mittlerweile enteilt ist...... Optisch ist der CSL natürlich eine Wucht.....

They can't go as hard on the bmw. The weight difference is siginificant. The bmw is just not good enough on track, which is to be expected compared to the gt3.

Der 911er ist in jeder Form ein reinrassiger Sportwagen, dagegen ist ein getunter 3er oder 4er BMW immer ein, wenn auch verdammt gut gemachter 200kg mehr wiegender Kompromiss! BMW sollte endlich mal wieder einen M1 Supersportler bauen, das wäre es!

Ob er mit dem Porsche oder den BMW mehr die Kerbs mitgenommen hat ist egal. Der Porsche ist in einigen Kurven schneller, wo es nicht auf den Kerb ankommt. Das Ergebnis war zu erwarten. Der Porsche hat weniger Leistung, ist aber leichter und der Motor sitzt auf der HA - schon sind rund 3 sec eingeschenkt... 😉
Der Unterschied ist sogar nich größer wenn man ehrlich ist. Der CSL fährt auf CUP2 R der GT3 nur auf normalen CUP2, auf ein R ist der GT3 im Supertest bei 1.45 gewesen also 5 Sekunden schneller. Das ist deftig

Was das fahrerische Können angeht hat sich Christian Gebhard nichts vorzuwerfen. Er ist mit dem 488 Pista auf der Nordschleife deutlich schneller gewesen als der Ferrari Werksfahrer, der das Auto mit abgestimmt hat.

The BMW can’t turn in, can’t sound good, can’t be stable, can’t put the power down, and can’t beat the Porsche. This CSL should be the standard M3’s performance and the CSL should be able to match the Porsche GT3. Not sure what BMW is doing. First problem. Where is the wing on the deck lid? With various and huge handicap( Front engine(not even front-mid), opf, tiptronic, etc) for M4, this is an win for M4
it’s obvious that the driver is not comfortable yet with the CSL. over-slowed the car on corner entry and didn’t need to track wide in multiple corners because he was too slow.

So you definitely can't compare these two rounds! Shift gears yourself and not turn the gears on the m4 and brake much earlier and therefore not leave the track! bring a good driver! The GT3 is a sensational car but at this track it's going to be close to a CSL because of the long straights.

So the ride with the M4 was not so convincing. and the porsche at the Hockenheimring is definitely not difficult to drive. i'm not saying that the m4 is the faster car on the track. From the second or third lap, the Porsche is a lot faster. but the perfect round was definitely not with the M4.

Schön diese ganzen Fahrhilfen , aber Fahrspaß braucht keine schnellen Rundenzeiten . Da sind mir die älteren Handschalter lieber , Motorensound durch Lautsprecher und all den Mist braucht kein Mensch. Alles was BMW nach dem E46 M3 CSL gebracht hat ist doch nicht gleichwertig, der Motor hatte zwar deutlich weniger Leistung , aber einen Klang zum Niederknien.

U actually know that it's possible if the Driver not that comfortable with the car and drive way slower than possible? An GT3 drive the same... They just go faster but they still the same like the older version. Give them 1 or 2 Years and then their some Driver they can push the M4 CSL to the limit and do less then 6:53 on Nürburgring. Even in this Video u see the driver not now the limits and still drive a bit slower then possible... Give him 4 Months with this car and he will do 2s less then the GT3

Wenn man sich die zwei Videos gleichzeitig nebeneinander anschaut dann sieht man dass der Fahrer mit dem Porsche viel mehr die Curbs mitgenommen hat als mit dem BMW. Wäre er mit dem BMW auch so über die Curbs drüber gefahren wie mit dem Porsche dann wäre der BMW auch viel schneller
