Prioritize painting over RUclips, Instagram etc. I've lost so much time to just pointless fluff on social media that I probably could have finished a couple armies if I had used it on hobbying instead.
Have models dotted around, maybe some books and reference, take inspiration when you're not painting and you'll find yourself with a brush back in your hand in no time.
Number one have a painting space set up! It doesn't have to be huge, just a space where you have your stuff set up or a box where everything is ready to start off if you can't manage a space
I like seeing how Ciara tried something and it didn't work out. Not because I want people to fail, but because for me, I try things and they don't work, but on videos content creators rarely fail or f*%$ up. So it's refreshing to see someone take a risk, not work but have the honesty to still leave it in the video. As a hobby trial and error is a given, but not often seen. Excellent video, all the models look great!
Actually amazing job here both of you, and I really enjoyed seeing Ciara's work with the airbrush - yeah not everybody has an airbrush, I get that, but the barrier to entry is so much lower that when I started using airbrushes so more people seem to be taking the plunge, and I always find it useful seeing how others use them - so, thanks 👍 You two have a lovely dynamic as well, it isn't that long since I found your channel but I always enjoy watching your content
Wonderful video. I really like that you're open about what didn't work and why you didn't like the particular approach. That's enormously helpful to others watching along!
Also, I was a stay at home dad for my two kids when they were young. I know how hard it is to find chunks of time to work on "fun" stuff! I really appreciated your thoughtful discussion around getting time in, and trying to keep focused on the fun and joy of painting. It sounded like you succeeded with that!

Ah. that exhausted manic energy and silly humor that comes with a newborn baby. I fondly remember those days... sort of. Its blurs together, honestly. I do recall there were lots of butchered songs altered to reference feeding and bathing, and many, many conversations about baby poop. My hobbying got put on hold for the first 18 months or so while dealing with that, so props to you guys for managing a business and a youtube channel while dealing with all that baby.

The paint jobs look amazing. Good on you for prioritizing enjoyment over arbitrary goals. And I do love push-fit models. They're not as "fun" for kitbashing and customizing, but they are such a breeze to assemble, and sometimes that can be really satisfying.
As a guy who takes about a month to paint 10 minis, yes enjoy the hobby. The moment I feel rushed to finish something, I don't paint as well as I want to and I resent it. I don't have any newborns but I do have a fairly full schedule, so I dedicate time to painting during weeknights, usually it's not more than an hour. I do have an intention to finish at least 1 completed mini by the end of every Sunday which keeps me on track without needing a strict timetable. The new sculpts are great, the amount of small details on the skaven models is fantastic. A friend and I split the Skaventide box, and I have the Skaven half. I'm hoping I can use the same models with swapping bases for W̶F̶B̶ The Old World, as I'd always decided if I got into Fantasy I'd pick Skaven, yes-yes.
Congratulations on the new arrival. I feel your pain on the painting side of things having had (my wife) twins 8 months ago. I've been building my pile of shame consistently as it's the easiest thing to do when you've got a cheeky 30 min. Painting is a lot harder as I feel you need to be distraction free. Things do seem to get easier though 😊
I tend to do 10-30 minute sessions for my painting. My biggest trick is to have the brushes out and ready, the models you want to work on on said desk, and most importantly? Your most commonly used paints right there, ready to go. This does require not only having a dedicated area to paint, but also for it to be safe for anyone else in the place (which is kind of hard with young ones and/or most types of pets - if you fish are getting into your paints, I suspect you've got bigger problems to worry about!)
You guys are doing Great ❤, new babies are difficult to wrap your sleep deprived brains around the new family systems and routines. Thank you for the great content!
A very loaded topic question indeed. Iv always imagined there is a motivating balance between hobby life and real life. Depending on the circumstances of personal life, when its something your really passionate about whether it is a new box set for a favorite army, a brand new game, or maybe a competition piece, youll find the right amount of time to want to do it whether thats more time to actually paint or just simply being faster with the time you have. And vice versa for personal life as well, congrats on the baby!! Obviously a baby is far more important than a simple hobby could ever be, even if its a business like yall have. But Im sure you guys would rather spend more time with your baby and be a family as opposed to hobby stuff so you set aside more time for the baby that is neccessary in those early months and years of their development, hobbying when you can find the time too. Although me personally, I have no babies or kids and that box would still take me like half a year to do lol
Im hoping this will give me the kick up the rear to finally get around to painting my Dark Angels set. I enjoyed building/customizing them (especially the dreadnaught!), primed them in black but lost my bottle when it came to painting. I make other models (1/35 scale tanks mostly) and use Tamiya paint no problem but don't really know what to expect with the GW paint, on such small models. Hence my hesitation.
now i know how to use DD verdigris, thanks ! for your warpstone stuff, just add a layer of diluted warplightning green over the tesseract glow, it does wonders imo.
