I love how when Greeny pressed all of them on Georgia being 6 instead of 5, they all immediately blamed the system. When it was about Bama being 4, the system worked as intended bc it got the 4 best teams. But Georgia at 6? Well, I never liked the system!
The argument there was the inconsistency. There’s two patterns of thought. If it was about (1) which teams EARNED their spot, obviously Florida State should have gotten in. This is most people’s critique. But even if it was about (2) the four BEST teams (what the committee alleged last week knowing they may need to justify putting Alabama in over FSU in case both Alabama and FSU won) then UGA should have clearly ALSO been ranked higher than FSU. Probably OSU too, tbh. So the committee wasn’t even consistent with themselves.
They could've just said because FSU won their conference championship game and Georgia lost. Basically if you're not a conference champion, you're out of the discussion this year. The main argument is undefeated power five and one loss conference champions. If Bama lost to Auburn and beat Georgia, they don't get in, Georgia doesn't get in and its FSU and Texas. They wouldn't even put in a two loss team in over a TCU team who lost their conference championship last year.
@@yanks2661 I disagree. They wanted a brand name. Had Auburn beaten Alabama, they would have picked Ohio State, and ranked them #3 to avoid a Michigan rematch in the semis
The ACC is a complete joke. SMU, Stanford, and Cal are all weak teams. The Big Ten and SEC are going to run college football going forward. Every other conference has been relegated to mid-major status.
The problem is that they have never applied the "best 4" standard before. Every single other undefeated team has gotten in. Dan talks about NFL but the NFL doesn't choose playoff teams by who they think are the best teams at the end of the year but by record. The committee has never used this standard before. They should have just come out and said, "we did it for the money". That's reality.
Why isn't undefeated Liberty in the playoffs then? We definitely need a better playoff system, but college football is far too complicated to only base rankings off of wins like the NFL does.
they beat auburn (the same auburn team that got killed by new mexico state) on a last play miracle after getting a miracle muffed punt. they beat south florida by 2TDs with one of those TDs coming with 30 seconds left in the 4th quarter..@@cleveland2022

Mike nailed it, why did they give these FSU kids false hope by MOVING them up to number 4 last week ? Last week they didn't care about them having a backup QB
This was a big part of the problem. FSU was too high to begin with. The committee expected more teams to lose and open up the slots. It backfired on them.
College football rankings are never really who we feel is where they are. It's about putting teams where we feel they deserve to be. If an undefeated UGA were to lose to Tennessee, would we think Tennessee is better, or is it that they just won that day? If you ask most reasonable college football fans who the four best are, it's UGA, Bama, UM and either OSU or Oregon. And that's what it's been for the majority of the season.
FSU has been in the top 4 since week 2. See that’s the problem with peanut gallery’s, most of the time they don’t know what they’re talking about. You just saying some words to sound smart, deep down though, you know you’re an idiot. Just like Paul Whinebaum.
Doesn't matter if Florida State is a different team without Jordan Travis. They still earned the spot by going 13-0 in the ACC AND winning the ACC title without Jordan Travis. We should not be picking teams based off how they may do in future games. That's a horrible precedent.
@@BrianK-zz4fk Vegas clearly gets it wrong often. A lot of money was lost from the 9.5 spread in Oregons favor vs UW last week. Now they have Texas as a 4.5 fave over UW. Hey, bet on Texas if you think Vegas has the answer. A lot of people did that exact thing last year. Oops…
if alabama goes up 20-0 on michigan then their qb gets hurt and michigan scores 17 to make it a 20-17 loss then michigan should go to the title game even though they lost
If the committee really felt that FSU was not the same team without Jordan Travis, why not move them out of the the top 4 when it happened 3 weeks prior? SEC owns the ESPN and ESPN has absolutely zero credibility.

@@levijaroslaw9571 They had to put in a SEC team. The only way I see FSU making the CFP is if UGA won the SEC. There has to be SEC representation in the CFP no matter what.
Yeah, but FSU won a chip against a better opponent. I get why the committee did what it did, but they should have moved FSU down after they played Florida.
Rich Eisen said it best: Imagine if the Eagles had been excluded from the playoffs after Carson Wentz went down? Nobody would have believed Nick Foles would go on to win a Super Bowl and take a ring from the GOAT. But that’s what happened!
The only problem is, the eagles played just as well without wentz on the offensive side of the ball. FSU had 141 yards passing over the last two games combined. They are not the same team without JT and it shows
but the problem is in the NFL every team is close to each other, but in college football there is a huge disparity between the best and worst teams. I’m not seeing you advocate for Liberty to get in, they’re undefeated.
@@Seahawk210Actually, the Eagles struggled offensively with Foles as QB for the remainder of the regular season. That’s why they were the underdogs according to betting lines throughout the playoffs. Foles only caught his stride in the NFC Championship vs. the Vikings.
Because Texas hadn't won the Big 12 and beating OK State the way they did and Alabama hadn't beat #1 Georgia yet. They simply ranked them week to week.
It was an open question. After the ACC championship game, that question was answered. Of course, both post-JT games were wins, despite offensive sputtering. So I get FSU being pissed.
Jordan Travis has not been the QB for FSU for weeks and they were ranked the 4th best team in those weeks. What it is the committee could not justify not having a SEC team in the playoffs.
The SEC isnt owed a spot..not to mention FSU beat two SEC teams AND ACC had a winning record against the SEC...money and tv contracts sold out the playoff long time ago!

@@alvinross1955 Let's say you're a coach who is taking a football team to go play Michigan. You get to choose whether you take FSU or Bama. Who are you taking?
The real travesty is that we've accepted the idea that a committee should pick the best teams and it shouldn't be the most deserving teams. And that player availability, projecting the future, etc. should matter. Who decided that? We've mostly gotten the right teams over the years and it was better than it used to be but it's always been wrong as written.
I've been thinking all of this through since Sunday. And I really feel like it is more subjective to put a "deserving" team in rather than trying to put the "best". I've heard so many people on the side of Florida State complaining about subjectivity. But if the committee starts looking for "deserving" teams, that's subjective too. I would feel better knowing that they were trying to put the best in and not get caught up with trying to decides who "deserves" it more. What does "deserve" mean? If Oregon had beaten Washington, they would have "avenged" their only loss and gotten in with one loss and no one would have complained. Yet I don't feel most people think that they are actually better than Alabama or Georgia. I would say that Alabama beating Georgia is better than playing Texas again and "avenging" their one loss. So in my eyes, they more than avenged their one loss. They knocked off the two-time defending national champ who had won 29 games in a row and was undefeated ranked number one. Most commentators think that Georgia is better than Florida State, but those same commentators think Florida State deserve to be in over Georgia and Alabama. If that's not subjective, I don't know what is. It's always going to have subjectivity in the decision, but "deserves" is way more subjective than "best".
@@BigPermDawgLet’s say a team loses their first 3 games then wins their remaining 10, and there’s a 12-1 team that lost in the final weeks of the regular season. Does the 10-3 team qualify for the playoffs ahead of the 12-1 team because “they’re one of the best teams in the country right now?” That’s the issue I have with Alabama getting in. It completely voids the entirety of the regular season in favor of ‘current form’ because the committee thinks hypothetically, FSU can’t beat the other teams without Jordan Travis. However, the fact that it’s hypothetical means no one is certain that it WILL happen. The only thing that is certain is what the teams have done up until now, and throughout the course of the season as a whole, I’d say Florida State was better than Alabama.
@@noid7598 Why, because Alabama lost to a team that was (way) better than anyone on Florida State's schedule? Alabama played a much tougher schedule, Florida State's best win (by far) is MAYBE Alabama's 3rd best.
@@noid7598 First, I don't think Alabama is a case of current form. They have won 11 in a row. Second, I'm not arguing for Georgia to be in. I'm arguing that why is Oregon beating Washington acceptable to get Oregon in with one loss, but Alabama beating Georgia isn't acceptable, when everyone thinks Alabama is better than Oregon..... and Washington for that matter. What's harder? Beating Oregon twice or Georgia once? I would argue that beating Georgia is the bigger feat. Florida State shouldn't be mad at Alabama. Alabama is for real. They should be wondering why Florida State is the odd man out amongst the other two undefeateds. Michigan beat Ohio State at home and no one else. Washington beat Oregon twice and no one else. The problem has come from the bogus pre-championship rankings. Why was Alabama 8 and Oregon five? They both had one loss and Alabama would have been favored against Oregon. If Alabama had been 5 then this wouldn't be quite the issue. Everybody takes issue with them jumping from 8 to 4.
@@noid7598 and no, I don't think a team with 3 losses but gets on a hot streak should be considered. One loss is different. And I have a problem with a team losing their conference championship and still getting in. I also don't like how an undefeated team who is a lock for the playoff has to play a lower ranked team who has no shot for the playoffs. (ex. Michigan vs Iowa). A team in that situation should be allowed to opt out of the conference championship for bigger and better things.
FSU got jobbed no question. You can’t penalize FSU players, coaches, and fans because 1 player is injured. They may have lost in the semis, but you just can’t make that assumption without them playing. They would not do this to Alabama or Georgia, no way.
An entire show of opinions. Exactly how FSU got left out. It was the committees opinion that FSU couldn't win another game without 1 player. Great coaching win football games. FSU won their conference with a 3rd string true freshman!
Best point made was that the system was setup to fail. 5 power conferences and only 4 spots.... They ALWAYS knew this would happen and instead of doing 6 teams to avoid this they wanted to keep the extra "bowl" games. You know why? Because the bowl games generate more money.
Yep. This was the purpose of this system. It was even written into their mission to give them the ambiguity to rationalize any decision they made however they wanted to. The truth is every argument that was made for keeping out FSU should have kept Ohio State out in 2014 (championship played in 2015). They couldn't go with that precedent though, so they just made up new reasons. The good thing is they already have the 12 team playoff ready for next year and this year just solidifies why it was necessary.
Well let them make the hard decision to leave an undefeated power 5 champion out when there are five of them. Not when there are 3 and leave 1 out for two 1 loss teams. It’s not right!!!
They gave FSU 1 more game to show out. If they blow out Louisville, they are in. They'd have to put them in. Instead they scored 16 pts on a non top 10 team with an average defense. Pretty much advertised, nah we ain't the same
@@MrAitraining Wrong if they did that then they would not have put in a SEC team. UT was going to get in because they beat Bama H2H. No matter how many points they beat Louisville it wouldn't have mattered.
@@Damariun224true, but CERTAIN games are important times to win bigger and prove yourself… and in their championship games, I saw Alabama take down the best team in the country while FSU barely slid by Louisville.

I don't know. If that was the case, Alabama would have probably gotten left out and they would have put Ohio State in.
@@BigPermDawg I honestly don't believe that...and that is ultimately what college football lost with this decision. Credibility. Polls, Computers, Committee, it's always going to equal the same thing, the results on the field will not be the deciding factor.

I’m a Washington fan, and my heart breaks for Florida State. That being said, if we’re to judge how valuable a player is to their team, it baffles me why Jordan Travis isn’t in consideration for the Heisman. As much as I’d like to see Penix, who beat Bo Nix twice, win the Heisman, it should be Jordan Travis. Hypothetically giving him the award won’t make up for FSU getting ROBBED from the CFP, but it should show how valuable he is to that team.
A similar argument could be made for Utah. Their quarterback didn't play a down all season long. He should be in the Heisman conversation. I can't remember his name but he probably qualifies.
@@christopherfoote4643 You’re talking about Cam Rising. Utah probably would’ve beat Washington if he was healthy. Unlike Jordan Travis, Cam Rising didn’t play at all this year because of his knee injury in last year’s Rose Bowl. Can’t give the trophy to a guy who didn’t play one snap on the field.
I’ve heard many argue that excluding FSU was the path of least resistance, and it generally makes sense. However, it’s the only option that requires obliterating a fundamental principle of competitive sports - the games matter, and wins/losses matter. Excluding FSU is the only option that guts the integrity of the game and fan confidence in why we all follow sports in the first instance - to let the players and team performance determine who wins. In the end, that’s not about taking the path of “least resistance,” but rather a demonstrated commitment to sacrilege.
@@LotusHart01 My argument does not support Liberty. FSU and Alabama both played LSU and the Noles had the more impressive showing. Plus, Alabama struggled mightily at Auburn and USF and lost by double digits at home. This was a complete take down and undressing of college football by the corrupt collusion of a miserable network and its backwoods conference. It’s completely disgusting.
Oh stop it. FSU played the 55th hardest schedule in the country while Alabama played the 5th. Bama simply had the better resume. Far from hurting the integrity of the sport, this will only incentivize teams to schedule better competition. That's a good thing.
I will not stop it. It’s a travesty and I’m entitled to express my opinion when I see ESPN and its miserable backwoods conference continue to diminish the once great sport. As far as scheduling tougher opponents, do you mean how UGA dropped OU? Also, how much tougher than LSU and UF do you want? FSU’s kids busted their tails and won every single game, including two against the backwoods conference. Bama walked off their own field with a double digit loss. FSU’s strength of record was higher than Alabama’s. This was an easy case to do right but the imbeciles in charge opted to line their pockets instead. Wake up if you don’t see that.
Controlled the game but didn't score a TD second half until 5 min mark in the 4th. The QB got outplayed by Georgia's with their two best players not performing at their normal level either. Im not going to say Dan didn't watch the game cause that's all that was on and the highlight game of the week but he defiantly let his hot take fly with this one.
The committee is on the SEC payroll, the SEC is not as good as in the past. The transfer portal has changed the playing field. Only 1 team has an elite defense and its FSU. Keep in mind we beat a 15th rank team with a 3rd string, and the 2nd stringer will be back healthy to play next week. Greeny is 100%
“Someone was gonna get left out” yeah but never the sec. the intentional blindness is absolutely infuriating and I’m not even an FSU fan. Blood boiling for every non sec/b10 fan base
What the "Committee got right" crowd is admitting is the ACC and SEC are not equals. The only reason why people are saying FSU is not the same team is because they played ACC opponents which they believe are inferior to the SEC. Therefore, Bama's schedule is seen as tougher because they play in the SEC. This is despite the fact the ACC went 6-4 against the SEC this year. It is SEC bias playing out and it will kill the ACC in the long run. Congrats guys for supporting further conference realignment.
His point is invalid. For example, if FSU is the top of the ACC then let them play THE TOP of the SEC. That's what Alabama did. Not to mention that win against LSU that all of FSU wants to hang their hat on, came with one Jordan Travis taking snaps, not Tate Rodemaker.
However, I think that this year, the SEC being bettter is a different story. Texas beat Alabama 34-24 in Tuscaloosa. Bama beat a 6-6 South Florida team 17-3. A USF team that had terrible defensive performances in a non power conference. Bama beat a 7-5 Texas A&M team 26-20, a team that gave up over 40 points to Miami and LSU and fired Jimbo Fisher. Bama beat a 4-8 Arkansas team 24-21. Arkansas lost to Missouri 48-14, Auburn 48-10, and two losing record teams BYU and Florida. Bama beat a 6-6 Auburn team 27-24 Fluke Miracle. An Auburn team that got blown out by LSU and lost to New Mexico State 31-10.
If Alabama would have been down to their 3rd string qb and undefeated the media would have been raving about how he's a 5 star and with the break they'll have time to coach him up. This a total money play.....bring on the 12 team system and burn the committee down
Look what Alabama did with Tua. Came on at halftime and took over. Alabama is on another level. They earned the respect they get. Their backups are better than your starters.
FSU played no team in the top 10. The best team they played was #13 LSU. How do you beat the thirteenth best team and then consider yourself one of the best teams in the country? Play tougher teams and you'll get more respect.
@waffles4393 I mean, they scheduled two SEC teams. They both happened to be on a below average year for them. It was a down year for clemson. It's not like they scheduled uconn and UMass, they can't help that those teams were off. Schedules are done ahead of time.
Therefore, based on the argument, the moment when QB went down, FS shoud not be in top 4 ranking IN PAST TWO WEEKS. That is what went wrong. No consistency at all. If Georgia won, FS will be the four seed. Just because no undefeated SEC team, they have to make up something they did not consider at all two weeks ago. SMH.
When he went down, they then let the 2 weeks of evidence of awful offensive play determine their conclusion. Also, in that two week span, Bama beat Georgia and UT won a conference championship in a more competitive conference. People so butthurt you’ll be thanking the committee when Michigan/Bama is a classic unlike the Michigan/FSU boat race that would’ve occurred
This was not an agonizing decision. The moment Georgia lost everyone knew Alabama was getting in even if Florida State had beaten Louisville by 5 touchdowns and the 3rd string QB had thrown for 400 yards and 4 TDs. As for Finebaum and faux outrage? This is the same guy who watched SEC bagmen buy titles for 50 years and said he would not recognize Michigan as national champion even though the NCAA gas yet to serve even a notice of allegations.

Texas beat Bama. We don’t need or want to see a rematch. Especially since there are only 4 spots available, I say bama already lost that spot when they lost to Texas.
As a Texas fan, I'm distraught that they didn't put Florida State in. Now if we beat Washington, we will have to play the best team in the nation (Alabama). At least if Florida State was in, we would know it was Michigan we had to play in the final.
As an SEC lover, I totally agree. And I hate TEXAS!!!!! I say that with respect though. Bc if anything it should’ve need Michigan 1, Washington 2, FSU 3, and GA 4. Ot even Texas 4. But Bama should not have hopped 4 spots
@cljackson512 still the excuse to leave fsu out is terrible. Nobody knows for sure what would happen whether they win it all or not. They were no question deserving
So for 9 years the Committee has used the logic of "most deserving" to pick the 4 playoff teams until the SEC is going to be left out then the rules change......got it

What if they covered up his leg, hid him in a room for a month and said he’d be available come playoff time? Would the committee have put them in? Finebaum yesterday saying FSU barely got by louisville with a 3rd string qb while ignoring the fact Bama needed a miracle against a bad Auburn team with their starting QB 😂😂 Of course that gets ignored
Bama also needed a completion call on 4th and 4 where the ball hit the ground. Had the refs made the right call, Alabama wouldn't have turned it over on downs
I love how everyone likes to predict what will happen in the future. How FSU would be major underdogs in the top 4. Maybe so. No disagreement. But that is why the games are played. The results matter on the field. FSU had absolutely earned the right to be in the top 4 and should have been. Whether or not that makes for a competitive matchup should not matter at all. Let them have a chance to prove it on the field instead of old committee members deciding the fate of one truly deserving team. You can also say that Alabama is the better team. That might also be true but it is subjective. The way winners are determined is not based on judges or opinions. It is fought for on the field. BCS was better in determining rankings.
Can you imagine if the NFL did this? "Those wins you got when your injured quarterback was healthy don't matter. You don't get in the playoffs any more." It sounds stupid because it IS stupid.
And other ppl love how yall think FSU wouldn't get blowed out. They might not even have scored and offensive td against Michigan. I'd looked like Iowa game
The committee made it clear they are going for the best teams, not the most deserving. That could be why FSU didn't get in. I expect Georgia will win decidedly against FSU. That should help put this whole controversy into perspective for the fans.
The committee has criteria to show that Alabama is the better team. The biggest outlier was strength of schedule. People complained about BCS and Alabama was better then too.
FSU began the season ranked #8. During the remainder of the entire season, they were ranked as high as #3. They were never ranked lower than #5. For the majority of the season, they were ranked #4. Yet in the end, after finishing 13-0 and winning their conference championship, they were not worthy of a top 4 spot? If that's the case, then why were they ranked 3rd, 4th, or 5th at all throughout the season? Why wait until the last weekend of the season to throw them on the scrap heap when they could've done so at any point during the season? Makes no sense, but then again, when has the NCAA ever made sense?
There is no right or wrong. There is no integrity. It is just about money. And that is all it is. Money has corrupted college football. It isn't the same as it was just 3 years ago.

FSU won all of its games and generated a strength of record that is BETTER than Bama’s. That is the one metric that normalizes the data and generates a benchmark. Plus, FSU doesn’t know what it feels like to lose this season. Bama walked off its OWN FIELD with heads down after a double digit beat down in front of their own crying fans. Disgusting that the committee handicapped the season and gave them a second shot. I couldn’t look at myself if I were Saban and Bama players knowing how much FSU’s players - the real storyline here - are suffering right now. But we shouldn’t expect more from a miserable backwoods conference.

Exactly. They killed the acc by saying all their wins don't matter when it measures uo to sec games.
The ACC is a complete joke. SMU, Stanford, and Cal are all weak teams. The Big Ten and SEC are going to run college football going forward. Every other conference has been relegated to mid-major status.
Yup, all schools will be jumping ship for this drowning conference
Big East 2.0, welcome back to G5 status folks lol
The problem is that they have never applied the "best 4" standard before. Every single other undefeated team has gotten in. Dan talks about NFL but the NFL doesn't choose playoff teams by who they think are the best teams at the end of the year but by record. The committee has never used this standard before. They should have just come out and said, "we did it for the money". That's reality.
Why isn't undefeated Liberty in the playoffs then? We definitely need a better playoff system, but college football is far too complicated to only base rankings off of wins like the NFL does.

I mean it's musical chairs with the rankings so #2-#5 moved up a spot after Ohio State lost.

That’s the issue I have with Alabama getting in.
A team in that situation should be allowed to opt out of the conference championship for bigger and better things.

They couldn't go with that precedent though, so they just made up new reasons. Hypothetically giving him the award won’t make up for FSU getting ROBBED from the CFP, but it should show how valuable he is to that team.

Exactly. It should be Michigan, Washington, Florida State, And Texas.

Then why isnt Jordan Travis the heisman winner if he is that valuable???

What if they covered up his leg, hid him in a room for a month and said he’d be available come playoff time? Would the committee have put them in?
