Been there several times. Best experience, sitting at the bar with my friend; chef is busting his ass cooking a million things, my friend asks him "what do you recommend?" Chef doesn't even look up, just says "the soup."
I Dont reccomend eating soup from any kind of Restaurant/Diner...Believe me The shit I've seen Done to soup is Quite Disturbing To say the least!! If u want soup just PLEASE Make it yourself in your home!! Or just go ahead and enjoy a nice bowl of semen/spit water mixed with your Favorite veggies!!oh Dont forget the Bread to sop it all up for your Deluctable enjoyment.
I love places like this. A place where everyone comes together and breaks bread. I don't think I've ever been in a street car style diner and I hope to get to soon.
Years ago when I was in HS I had a summer job getting locked in overnight at the Old Woolworths store close by. My job was to strip and wax the floors of the store. When the store manager would come in at 6am and let me out I would go over to Mickeys for breakfast. Many, many great memories and a pretty awesome breakfast experience... This clip brought out many smiles! Thanks...
Doing A LOT of research on diners in the past year or so and this video was PERFECT. Looking forward to checking your other videos and I hope you aget to make it to more diners in the future! Thanks for showing the whole menu
Ate there on and off since 60s, almost daily in the 70s. It is now closed and is just sitting there. Another note: in the 80s or 90s the insurance company next door tried to get it removed so they could build their skyscraper all the way to the corner. They even got the city involved and tried eminent domain. Mickey's fought back and with public support won, getting it on the historic register. So they built it right to the back door, making a nice back drop though. They had three other restaurants in town (not diners) but with the same menu. One is still open about a couple of miles away on the same street. Thanks for posting this.
I grew up on Rice St. in St. Paul and played hockey at Washington High School graduating in 1969. We played many games at the old St. Paul Auditorium and I remember that after most games I would swing by Mickey's Diner for some great burgers and good music!! At that time, I was too young to appreciate the historical significance of this beautiful diner, but I do now! My mother and father went to Mechanic Arts High School and even they hung around at Mickey's when they were in high school too. After high school, I went to St. Thomas College and worked at Donaldson's Department Store in downtown St. Paul and continued visiting the diner until I joined the Air Force in 1973. I live in Temecula, Ca. now and I am so glad to see that this wonderful piece of history is still thriving. Thank you for the wonderful video and the great memories!! bob
So cool! What an amazing little piece of American History! I want to go there someday! It is now added to my ever growing bucket list ha ha Thanks for sharing! Keep living the dream!
Wow!! In 99-2000 I lived just a few miles away in St.Paul. I spent many afternoons and evenings in Mickeys, drinking coffee with my friends. Thanks for bringing back Some good memories!!
OMG look at the size of thise fries!! As an indian, ive always longed for thise kinda generous looking foods..Thank you for showing us this nice place. Kind people, great food. Would want to visit this sometime.. Americans have a big heart..
Saffer here. We have a few ol' timey roadhouses where food is served on trays that clip on to the side of one's car and you can watch drive-in style projector movies, but nothing like a "diner" experience :) would love to go on a tour of the US and eat at a diner every day for a year. Absolute dream :)
They did alooooot of filming in the twin cities, especially on the south side of Minneapolis. Fun fact, not sure is anyone knew this, but the scene where the kid who busted out the window on the van is the backside of Charlie's place, and it was the 2nd or 3rd movie when they reunite in front of the burger box that was just down the street. And we had a friend who lived in the apartment building across the street from Peavey Park at the time they filmed the limo scene which Charlie's mom was trippin cos they were driving on the ice, relax folks, it's just a field, lol. which was only 3 blocks from your Swedish Institute vid. Oh, and Hans' skate shop was at Theodore Worth Park, and if I'm not mistaken, his shop was where they keep the tubes for downhill tubbing, not sure if they still do now a days, haven't been there in Fyeva....
As a Limey, I really do need to get my arse over to the States at some point, I have extended family out in Sedona but there's so many places I'd love to visit on that side of the pond.
The Boulevard Diner in Worcester ,Ma about 47 miles west of Boston opened in 1936. Nothing like hardy diner food, especially breakfast . When in the great state of Maine stop at the Maine diner in Wells Maine.
Way cool! I have been to the Twin Cities numerous times but has never been to Mickey's. That might have to change next time I'm up there in that neck of the woods. Thanks for showing off this unique, one-of-a-kind restaurant!
I remember eating at a place like this as a kid. My parents took me there but being in the 2nd grade I can't swear this was it. My dad was the general manager of Falcon cleaners in Falcon Heights on Larpentaur St at the time. I'm 75. I do remember the movie theaters around 7th & Wabashaw back then. If I get back, I'm going there for sure.
The owners should be invited to the WHITE HOUSE for a formal dinner and a GOLD MEDAL for perserving a piece of Americana all these past years. Kudos to the whole family, past and present. Luv you all. Bravo. !
This was the the diner in jingle all the way?? Love when Howard comes in from the cold and the guy behind the counter says “here, this will warm you up” while setting down a cup of coffee. Such a great scene when Myron and Howard drink coffee and bond over their search for turboman. Hits hard when Myron declares “Me...I’m just a loser with no future” and then takes a swig from his flask.
Only people with no class and stlye or good tastes would not like this restuarant!!!"...I'd love to eat there it looks so cool like some thing out of a movie!!!"... it is my dream to one day travel all across America and visit and take pictures of and eat at every single old-fashioned Diner and then open up two or three of my own old fashioned diners!... that would be so cool and so fun and so exciting it would be a memorable experience
Another well done informative video. There was one of these diners in Brookfield WI. Unfortunately it was removed when the highway was widened & moved lord knows where.
I've been in a diner just like this one. Except the interior was blue. It's called George and Sally's Blue Moon Diner. It's about as big as this one. It's located at the Gilmore Car Museum in Plainwell Michigan.
You do not see hamburger prices like those anymore. The closes place like this one in Seattle is XXX barrel and the plain hamburger with cheese is $10.00 without fries or a drink. Add an extra $5.00 to the hamburger to get a small portion of fries and a small drink. Yikes!
I spent 3 weeks in St Paul in 1975 and 95% of my meals were in this glorious diner. Your video brought back some great memories! Thanks!

Miss Woolworths shakes and burgers God Bless you thanks for sharing-!
@@eddiemunster4094 They were pretty dang good! And the whole Woolworth lunch counter was very good back then!
Lived in St Paul for 22 years ate here several times is more of a landmark than a destination for me.
This diner has some of the best breakfast I've had in my entire life.
The fact it's still stands, shows how things used to be built to last.
Marriages used to last a long time too……
Yup
Cuz all the other buildings from that time just fell down.
@@ironsyde8315 No, it's the new buildings that last 50 years and bye bye
I order strawberry pancakes 🥞 and a steak 🥩 with french fries 🍟.......delicious....love that diner

Cool. The epitome of what a British guy like me wants to eat in when visiting US of A. Brilliant.

the background ragtime music is a very nice touch to the video
Jingle all the way! Who can forget the iconic diner in one of the best Christmas movies of all time.
I went to Mickey's today and got the Chili Cheese Hotdog, absolutely delicious! Love the video, I grew up eating Mickey's and still go to this day!
chili cheese dog?
I ate there once about 15 years ago... great food & atmosphere!
Looks a weight scale, let's see if this still works.... Yep, well that's not good lol. I literally spit water on my phone 😆 liked and subscribed!
The Boulevard Diner in Worcester ,Ma about 47 miles west of Boston opened in 1936. Nothing like hardy diner food, especially breakfast . When in the great state of Maine stop at the Maine diner in Wells Maine.
Open 24/7 since 1939, WOW!!

My grandma used to work there she worked there for 40 or more years
I grew up in Minneapolis in the fifties and unfortunately rarely ventured into St.Paul so I missed Mickey’s Diner. Darn!😢
So cool. If I lived in the area I'd be in at least once a week. How cool to see a neat ol' diner like that.! Awesome. Thx for the video.
04:23 Wait.... Is he portrait a Steve from Netflix’s “Stranger Things” ?

In the Northampton Massachusetts we had two great dinners for after bar night food. Greasy burgers, bacon and eggs, and great fries at 3 am.
