Can you do a budget laptop review it you can ,I'm a high school student and I wanna get some gaming done along with some research
Other Tech RUclips channels say the Acer Aspire 5 is great but...its still a bit pricey I guess I just want to hear what Jarrod has to say about it
Soooo... You Did not get around to trying out a new display....
Hey Jarrod ,plz make a video on best laptops around $1000-$1200 ,I felt earlier that a15 is a good laptop, but now need to think on it.Can u make a similar video on G14 on this channel

Thanks bro. I was waiting for this review. 👍
No problem 👍
Thank you for testing the response times. I'm sure the tools to measure that were not exactly cheap.
No problem! Yeah about $500 USD, hopefully the cost of new testing tools like that will be offset by the recent addition of Patreon and I can add even more :)
Gotta love this presentation style, It gives your channels a whole lot more personality!
A couple more advices btw...
The lighting in the room you're shooting this videos could use improvement and If you create an Instagram account you'll get a lot more followers than Twitter/Facebook.
Looking forward to your success my dude🙌
I bought good lighting a few months ago, but due to covid there is no ETA on availability. Rather than waiting for everything to be perfect, I started making the videos anyway.
@@JarrodsLaptops Good decision then. Keep up!
Everyone looking at the laptops, while me looking at his T-shirts... damn Jarrod! you've got some nice taste in music \m/
Haha thanks 🤘
My expirience:
Background:
I have this exact laptop in fact in use right now, it is my first gaming laptop as i have been an apple user so i don't have a great reffrence point BUT i believe i have a unique view to offer comments from as i am both an illustrator and a gamer, as well as a 3D modeler and an up and comming game developer so effectively i need all of these, good response, good screen, colour and brightness and mad processing power.. This laptop was recommended to me by my game dev teacher as a response to me asking what could run my 3D-modeler software as at the time that was the only thing i was concerned about due to never being able to properly game before and therefor having no reffrence point to that direction.
NOTE:
I guess due to me being from finland or somethin i only got the option of campfire black and higher or lower performance, none of this fancy shmancy battery cooling system cpu gpu selection so yea...i got what i got.
Pros:
I'll keep this brief as as said i have no prior expirience other then a 4 year old Mac but overall a positive expirience. I like the feel and sound of the keys, i originally thought i was going to HATE the fact that the WASD keys were a different colour to the rest of the keyboard, turns out, i ended up loving that as they are easy to find without looking down much when gaming. I like how fast it can restart tho it might just be that macs restart slow af idk. Overall looks pretty cool. Good selection of ports, i love the extra USB on the right. Runs my 3D-model software smooth as duck.
Cons:
HEATING. H E A T I N G. As he said and this made me relize this isn't a problem on every gaming laptop, it overheats redicilously fast.
The RGB selection on the keyboard is crap and as an artist that pisses me off to no end.
The screen doesn't go very bright, a problem for a photoshop artist...
The charging cable from the big black box on the cable to the computer-end of the cable is a bit too short
One of my biggest issues so far is how waayy over sensitive the trackpad right and left mouse button are, they practically push themselves and it pisses me off to no end.
Workarounds for cons:
I don't actually have a gaming desktop PC, only the laptop so i always intended to use this as a poartable desktop with installing a bigger screen, a bigger keyboard and a mouse among other stuff so when working in my lil fake office i could eliminate close to all of these issues in one swoop. Bad screen for photoshop? BOOM buy a bigger brighter screen. Overheating? Keep PC on a cold-ass stone bench-desk thing, No good RGB? Buy a seperate keyboard!
Conclusion:
If you're like me and your two biggest concerns are portability and raw power and are willing to/able to compensate for the devices shortcommings with external devices, It is absolutley worth it tho get the higher performance version without a dout. Worth the price for me but it really depends on how you are going to use it and what for, where and for how long. Me being very versitile about my usage was luckily able to customize this laptop into essentially a desktop to cater to my needs.
Would i recommend it? For illustrators no, for 3D-animators or game developers? Absolutley. For gaming? Sure why not, tho propobly not super fast paced tho I have no expirience in that.
Thank you for reading, forgive my spelling errors, I'm a finn

I do video editing professionally. I bought the A17, and combined it with a C Force air (tablet sized 4k secondary screen with 100% Adobe RGB). This is, by far, the best mobile photo/video editing setup you can buy for under $2000. The Tuff A series is far from bad as a mobile video production workstation. You just need to be a little creative with the accessories.
Perfect
Thanks for sharing!
That's good to hear, yeah if you're using a good external screen then as mentioned the CPU+GPU inside do offer good performance for the money.
Thank you. Very helpful. I typically use an external monitor. Or, use the laptop screen as a "prep" table / tool table, and do real work on the big screen. Sounds like this can be a good deal if I can keep the thermals low.
This just answered most of my questions about the laptop thank you!
Great video as always. Thanks for your hard work. Much appreciated. 👏👍

Thanks Jarrod for the in-depth review. It sucks that such a nice cpu is botched by bad thermal design. These laptop models had so much potential. I hope other manufacturers do a better job.
Honestly this looks good now that I'm testing out the G5 lol.
Hey Jarrod, I recently stumbled apon both of your channels and love your content. I guess the algorithm must of figured out that I’m currently looking at getting a new laptop.
Your videos on this channel are short sweet and to the point full of information I didn’t even know I wanted.
As another fellow Aussie I would love to see Aussie prices mentioned even if it’s smaller text and maybe a link.
Thanks, I do try to mention them in the videos on the other channel, but yeah Australia is like 4% of the views so it might be a bit strange to add it on for everyone else without also mentioning a bunch of others and then it's not manageable 😅

Any news on when you might get your hands on the Legion 5/7? Also I like the idea of this channel, more into-the-point and easier to digest compared to the more in-depth, detailed reviews you have on your main channel. Keep it up!
Maybe early next month, still waiting on availability in my country.
Thanks for the review. This is the perfect laptop for someone like me who has no actual need for gaming but required the cores and storage for running multiple VM's and a whole bunch of other stuff.
It's a shame you can't get this kind of spec outside the gaming market - the 'business laptops' are all lacking in power and storage. It was really useful to be able to get a look at the internals of these machines and see the storage upgrade options which is crucial for someone like me. Unfortunately, these A15 laptops appear to be going end of life so they're getting harder to find now.
Just as a sidenote, one thing that puts me off is the differently styled WASD keys, which I think kinda spoils the aesthetic, but maybe I'm alone on this as I see so many manufacturers doing this now. I also wish manufacturers would bring back the \ key left of the z key. Unix-type people will understand.
So you bought a gaming laptop for bisnis
@@REALMRTRUMP What's wrong with it?
I want to buy one because it is cheaper than anything else, and better than the garbage with 8gb of ram and 116-216 gb of ssd.
Thanks for the video 😀✌️👍
I intend to get a mobile workstation for Unreal Engine demos and it is really hard to choose but now I've discovered your channels and some popcorn. Thanks for your work!
No problem at all, happy to help!
TBH I'm completely happy with my TUFA15 so far. I have the Ryzen 7 4800, 16GBram3200mhz, GTX 1660Ti, upgraded the WiFi-5 card to WiFi-6, 48W battery. It does run a little on the hot side compared to my last Asus laptop (which I used for 8 years until I got this one. It still works, just not for modern gaming any longer). I always run a cooling fan under my laptop's, (and I did do a little "Dremel Mod" to the bottom panel/cassie on the A15). And even with that, my CPU/GPU temps were a lil high for my taste under "heavy gaming". I did hook up 2 external fans on the back heat sink vents,(they pull/suck air out of the laptop) and my "heavy gaming" temps drop 10-15 Celsius!!! A big difference, and one I hope helps this laptop last at least half as long as my last one.
So while there are a few things you may need to do, to make this a gaming laptop last a while and is comfortable to play, for the price, it just can't really be beat buy many out there.
*Laptops have always been my main PC's for the last 12+ years. I haven't had a Desktop PC since 2007.
What games do you play?
@@deep_z Overwatch/Valorant, WOW, Diablo I & II, Cyberpunk (high settings, no problem), Civilization VI, etc. All games played at high or max graphics setting. I even run my VR through my Laptop so I can broadcast what my VR is displaying upon my big ass flat screen.

Great video as always :) do you have any preferences between Lenovo legion 15 R7 and the A15? Also can you advice any other budget laptops with fan control option?
Buy lenovo legion 5, its cheap, the keyboard feels tactile, as they gain inspiration from the thinkpad keyboards. The cooling is very good and way better than the tuf gaming and hp omen 15
just bought the laptop few days ago. few facts maybe you guys want to know:
playing games on turbo mode and ultra settings makes the cpu/gpu temperature too much high. 95 average.
on performance mode 80-90 average.
but if you play it on silent mode and medium settings (sotr), your laptop stays within 70 degree, which is really nice.
for those who want a budget laptop, definitely can choose this. just make sure not to play games for too long in turbo mode, this can reduce lifetime of the laptop.
How's the display? Is tn panel worth in this laptop
@@mohitnagdev8745 if you are not heavy graphics design user, the display is not that bad for me...though i did not go outside with the laptop to test the brightness....
@@lamiafarah506 thanks a lot👍
@@lamiafarah506 just a small doubt are viewing angles good?
I recently bought the A17 17'3 inch version of this laptop, I can confirm that it gets to about 95 °C in games.
One solution that worked for me was to disable CPU boosting, now the CPU temperatures stay at about ~75°C.
Obviously this comes at a cost of ~10-15% lower FPS, however, this laptop already runs plenty of games at high framerates and personally, I can't really notice the difference.
If you are interested in trying out this method, there is a link to a reddit thread: www.reddit.com/r/ZephyrusG14/comments/gho535/important_update_to_properly_disable_boosting
Even though this thread is about other laptop, it does work on the TUF series, also, you should read the first comment of this thread.

Hey man!
Just today I spotted an insane deal on HP's US website-though I don't have the money to buy it, so I thought maybe help others who might be interested.
For $1300, there's a model of the older (chassis) Omen 15 which gets you an i7-10750H + RTX2070 Max-Q, 8GB+256GB, 144Hz G-Sync, 70Whr, Red backlight, Wi-fi AX.
I feel it's an awesome deal if your are only looking for performance, unfortunately u can't configure/customise it.
Sounds like decent money in terms of the specs yeah, but no idea about any HP stuff as they intentionally don't send me review units.
Jarrod's Laptops they’ll start sending you stuff soon enough when you hit a mil ;) Good Luck!

@@JarrodsLaptops I won't mind that you aren't reviewing HP. Sure, HP could change and my experiences and those I know are anecdotal, but every person I know who've had HP, had problems. At employer, when switching from Dell's to HPs; the HPs didn't last as many years, though those HPs were less problematic than the consumer ones. HP is going to have to prove themselves to me for 5+ years, have something exclusive that I have to have or I'll have to have money to burn for me to consider it.
@@washuai HP laptops always break or the screws come out loose and fall off!. Avoid HP laptops. A15 is better value for money anyways
Hi Jarrod, great review as always! More power to you! :) Bob and Steven from own and disown have shown that you can disable the turbo boost for these ryzen mobile chips and they showed that it helped dropped the temps by around 10c, with minimal impact to gaming performance. It just seems quite weird to have to do this just to rein in the thermals
Thanks, yeah I tested turbo boost in this video previously: ruclips.net/video/R4dIw215_Gc/видео.html the goal of this channel isn't to go into all of the technical details/possibilities so I didn't give it a mention, plus in my opinion I think it's not a good solution anyway, why should I not get the performance I've paid for? 😛

Jarrod, I've been eyeing the 2020 Strix G15/G17. Pricing seems to be very good for what you get. Are you reviewing one of those soon?
No plans at the moment as a service have not been able to tell me when they will release in my country
The Helios 300 costs around $320 more than the A15 with 4800h and 1660Ti in Singapore. Better off getting the A15 and a nice external monitor for the price of the Helios 👌
Thinking something similar as I typically use an external monitor anyway. Maybe just a matter of using the hack to lower the thermals.
Yeah that sounds like a reasonable solution, I prefer using larger screens anyway.
It costs $120-500 more here in the US, too.
@Lou B The power brick gets hotter to the touch, than the laptop. Depending on how you look at it, the laptop isn't a fire hazard or all laptops are fire (and other) hazards, due to the batteries.
@@washuai Bruh, US got the best price since it the biggest market :V my uncle in US got A15 R7-1660ti with 1k$ while its around 1k4$ in VN @@ That is fucking 40% more expensive

Hey Jarrod, this review is very helpful. Aside from all of the other useful stuff you showed, I particularly liked your posting of a quick reference for the thermals for all of the A15 models. Could you do the same for the A17 models, if you haven't already tested those out?
Not sure if I can get them, depends what ASUS has available, they sent me 1x A15 and the other 2x were borrowed from Hardware Unboxed, so basically I got very lucky here and this probably isn't going to be very common :(
@@JarrodsLaptops Fair enough and thanks again for this video.. But don't you know? Your audience wants you to go broke just to deliver great reviews ;) . Go broke, but with style!
Me testing out the keyboard sturdiness of my 7 year old laptop: it feels so strong.
as the price difference between A15 and helios 300 in my country is about 350 USD, it's really hard to choose helios 300 over this laptop
but anyway, thank you very much for your food of thought! you are the most neutral reviewer I've ever seen on RUclips! keep it up!
I'd say if you can test them in a store or something so you see the difference for yourself, would be the best. If you don't really notice the screen delay A15 might be better choice. But each to their own, it completely depends what you're searching for and your budget.
Bang/buck A15 is i believe unbeatable so they cut some corners in some places and if they don't bother you A15 is a clear choice.
Thanks! Yeah that price difference is quite big so it would be harder to decide, comes down to how much you value the screen, perhaps if you're using an external monitor then it might not matter.
In my country, Helios 300 is 1k4$ fro the lowest spec
A15 1650 is 850$
1660ti is 1k2 and 2060 is 1k4

@@adityasrivastava6428 It'd still be limiting the CPU, but I'd be interested to hear Jarrod's take on Ryzen controller, to do something similar.
That will lower CPU speeds which is something many are not comfortable with
Hello! You mentioned at the end how there's similar laptops with similar specs and prices at around the same value, what would these laptops be? Thank you for the answer.
I was referencing the Helios 300 in particular there, it's around $1100 but has gone on black friday sale for $930 USD, purely from a gaming standpoint it tends to do better.
Hey
Jarrod great review as always!!! One question: Does Adaptive Sync/ Freesync work well with Nvidia gpu as with AMD's ?
Thanks! So the way it works is the Vega iGPU which is part of Ryzen 4000 handles the connection to the screen and FreeSync, therefore it does not matter if the discrete graphics is Nvidia or Radeon.

Hey mate, Im thinking of buying asus tuf gtx 1650 ti, with 16gb of RAM and 144hz refresh rate. Would you recommend it for games like AC Odyssey or Far cry 5?
nice shirt! wintersun kicks ass!
So I have the 2060 model and was able to drop my temps from 95C/86C max to 85C/80C (without dropping FPS) by disabling turbo boost WHILE SIMULTANEOUSLY undervolting/overclocking the GPU using MSI Afterburner. Basically, doing only one mod -- either the CPU mod OR the GPU mod -- only helped to partially drop temps, but when doing BOTH mods together at the same time, their cooling effects compounded each other, and the results became quite impressive! Hope this helps, and happy computing!
That's good to hear!
I should note, my temps are based on having the "Performance Mode" profile set in Armoury Crate. I imagine setting it to "Turbo Mode" would yield even better results (as the fans run more aggressively in that profile, and not just higher GPU clocks, right?) but my general preference when gaming is that I'll accept higher temps over louder fans, which may certain differ than other users out there.
There are actually some great tricks to lower temps by like 10° while only losing like 5fps
Indeed, I have covered this here: ruclips.net/video/R4dIw215_Gc/видео.html

Nice video stressing the vents of the bottom panel because all of the asus tuf series had few vents. By the way i have Asus tuf fx505gm and made some holes or vents to provide more airflow and temps were good now.
Yeah people seem to forget that the Intel models like that version of TUF has similar bottom panel design, people are quick to say it's because they want the Intel model to look better when that simply isn't the case.
Jarrod is the guy that promotes other Laptop reviewers' videos, what a cool and kind guy. Cheeers, pls promote this channel to your main channel to get the right amount of subscribers
IIRC the Tuf A15 tested by Jarrod was lent by Hardware Unboxed. So he feels he must say that.
Yes these two were borrowed from hardware unboxed, however I would have drawn attention to that video anyway, if I didn't people would have brought it up every 2nd comment 😅 I give them a proper shoutout for lending them to me in the review on the main channel which might go up next week.
Seems fine then.
Though I would like the Helios 300 as you've suggested, however the i5 + 1650 model costs $200 more than the A15 with 1650Ti here in our country.
I suppose if you're looking at that spec level and can get by with the worse screen then A15 could make more sense.
How about the Acer Nitro 5?
I was looking at the Legion 540 and the Helios 300 and price difference was 500 euros for the same specs. Helios 300 was more expensive. Then I saw them in person and immediately bought the Helios 300. Build quality is miles ahead of the Legion 540. Cooling is better as well and you have 2 SSD slots and 2.5 inch drive bay. This just won it for me. I also got the 17 inch version and I love it. Screen is 120 Hz and colours and brightness is very good on the eye. My GF is doing Adobe Premier stuff on it and even after 10 hours, she doesn't get sore eyes. Screen is very important!

Even with these issues, (in Australia at least) I feel like this is the best option for me as the price is unparallelled
It does look pretty good for the price compared to many alternatives here, though Lenovo tend to do good sales on their gaming stuff, I got an i5+1660 Ti laptop for $1270 AUD which was pretty crazy.
You should try the screen with the charger plugged in. I have that laptop and I found out that when you use it with the charger the screen quality enhances greatly. I have not been able to set that quality without the charger haha
well done, although I think this is still similar style with your main channel lol, feel free to try different style
btw your smile in you icon looks funny to me xD
Seems completely different to me 🤔
Thumbnail just looks like a couple of SATA SSD's
Jarrod but in India its the best value for money when you consider other Acer and lenevo intel options which are way overpriced, thats why its an easy sell here.
60-90k INR (Asus a15) vs 90k INR onwards
Thanks for the video. I use this with portable monitor asus MB16AMT for presentation in front of clients. It's great, but ghe fan is very annoying .
This is the first time I saw your video with "you: on it. All this time, I think that the voice in your video is just software (like siri or google which read texts), but this video proven that you are very incredible person with good rhythm and vibrate sound.
Haha, no problem.
Thanks for the new channel. Personally I feel your older reviews were a bit boring. Now its good and to the point. Coming to the preferences, I would any day go for Helio 300 i7+1660ti before a15.
Haha thanks I think
7:34 Man, USB consortium made this painful. Would’ve been cleaner to just say the bandwidth of each port (i.e. 2x 5 Gbit Type A ports and 1x 10 Gbit Type C port)
Haha yeah maybe.
I bought rtx2060 90watt ,4800h .The battery is best ever for me .Complete full charge in 40minutes and last for long.Heating issue at max graphics but no lag or stuck issues but heating some times
What’s the highest temperature it’s goes for you? I got the 1660ti version. I haven’t had a problem yet, highest temperature I gotten is 85c.
@@blueking5739 I played almost max settings of the game while gta 5 and with plugged in.earlier it went almost 100 but now it’s lower but i didn’t cheaked it i turn on cooling fan options yesterday while plugged in it’s working for me,i will tell after cheaking now
@@blueking5739 I won’t facing that much problem if I’m gaming without plugged in
@@nothumanff5900 check out ryzen controller bro it lowers the temperature overall. That’s what I used first time and got it. If you install it tell what temperature you get
@@blueking5739 ok bro i will try it can you suggest a video on it 🙂
Wow! Respect for Wintersun T-shirt!
Wintersun... you have good taste in music ;)
P.s. Nice video as always man.
Thanks! 🤘
Good to see Dave Lee reviewing the Asus TUF
el oh el
Nancy Nguyen Who...?!?!
One's not gonna notice if they don't pay attention to the blue atmosphere.
He never do a reviews of laptops having bad thermal test😁😁
@@diveshsharma2373 dell g5 se?
Would you suggest this to buy for an architecture students ?(since we do a lot of renderings and stuff..!)
In terms of performance it will probably do well, and I suppose things like screen response time aren't important in that workload.
@@JarrodsLaptops im thinking of buying this cause I'm an animation student on a budget! Do you think its okay to use for animation softwares?
@@sotrue4436 no
Looking forward to getting the a15 1660ti thanks for detailed videos
No problem 👍
Kudos for not being overly competitive and actually linking to another channel. :)
I always link to anything I reference where possible, sharing is caring!
So my A15 has intel in it..I’ve yet to see a video with my configuration but I love the laptop and use it daily without issue.
Thank you
Yupp just got one that has a i5 cpu in it no Amd
Its a late reply but i just ordered it with the same spec as you becoz its the only laptop on my budget. Thx for the info. I was worried becoz people keep saying its not. 😅
Oh, crikey! I’ve just bought one! (Black Friday... and it arrives next Friday! Oh poo!)
Yeah, same I bought one for media classes. To be fair, it was the best one they had at the Best Buy so I took it. Really wishing I had searched better, but the convenience of having the laptop straight away feels fair for what I got.
@@WhatIsMyPorpoise How do you find it?
Woah new video format. So far so good!
Glad you like it!
Kinda funny how I've been watching this channel for two years and I haven't subscribed yet!!!! 😹
Welcome!
Also bring Asus Rog zephyrus G14 laptop big brother 🤗.
I asked them if I can borrow it again, they are sending it in 1-2 weeks.
I'm mostly a laptop user since can't afford desktop just yet, very appreciate for doing laptop reviews since not many RUclipsrs do it and most of the time it's the high end ones
I wonder if you could a budget friendly laptop reviews for students if possibly in the realm of 400-700usd
No problem, I haven't had that many at that price point yet so it's honestly hard for me to test, however the Nitro 5 series is ok for the money if you don't mind the gamer design, I am keen to try out the new upcoming Ryzen 4000 model.
It'd be awesome if you could review the Eluktronics Matrix 15, it has the 4800H+2060 combo. Also, just subscribed!
Welcome! They are apparently sending it to me, just waiting on it and no exact ETA on when it's actually happening.
There is no perfect thing in this world
Indeed.
Thanks for the great information 👍. Can you do the review of hp omen 15 2020( amd ryzen 4000 series) laptop..
No problem! I will probably buy it once it's available as a lot of people have asked.
That Wintersun t-shirt 🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼🔥
Very nice and concise video !!! Is it out there another laptop with CPU 4800H and GPU 1660 ? any other recommendation ?
Thanks for video. Really waiting for Ideapad Gaming 3, Lenovo 5i and Lenovo 7i with 1660Ti specs!
No problem, me too! Lenovo told me early July availability for my country 🤞
@@JarrodsLaptops Omg, so good!
When I turned on my A15 (Ryzen 9) for the first time, it failed to boot around 4 or 5 times, it restarted on its own during all these failed boots, and succeeded on its own without my intetlrvention. The lights on the keyboard flashed a couple times, the Asus logo popped up, then just turned off with something that sounded like the hard drive/ssd turning off. Should I be concerned? I had charged it for around 2 hours prior to turning it on.
Came for the laptop review. Stayed for the Wintersun t-shirt.
With ryzen 7 and gtx 1650ti the fa506 i does work fine no heating stays cool not so bad great even while stress testing the best choice is to use a cooling pad which can stand the laptop angled to surface which create a good airflow. That makes everything much great.......
I had the Zephyrus g15 with the 4800/1660Ti combo. I took a sharp exacto-knife blade and carefully cut away the paper blocking the vents at the bottom of the laptop. My laptop went from being noisy while gaming to acceptably quiet (you can hear the fans on performance/turbo mode while doing intense stuff) and the temps dropped by about 6º on both the CPU and GPU.
I can now play a game at college or something without the fan-noise disrupting anyone else.
Good to hear it helped! I should be able to get the G15 to test in the next few weeks 👍
