For the TUF A15, Asus should just focus on performance. They should just put a much heavier cooling system and run the GPU at the highest TGP possible. If they want to keep the weight down, just cut down the battery size. I imagine most people who buy this laptop will use it plugged in, replacing their desktop, and performance is their priority. Also, it's not portable already, so why bother limit its potential.
Honestly, for 1200$ that still is TUF to recommend. I just bought my legion 5 with a full power 3060 + 1tb storage for 1340$, tax included. Plus it has a mux switch.
In Canada TUF with 3060 is going for$1599, while Legion 5 and Strix G15 (both higher powered and performing) are going for $1599-1699 (depending on sales), so yeah, definitely not worth it at this price point. They would have to price it (the RTX 3060 spec) similar or less than TUF F15 (eg. $1399) to make it a good value. And honestly given the power limit and GPU throttle limit I wouldn't even consider the RTX3070 as it performs on par with other laptops with a 3060.
The legion is not available in my country India. Once here I'm sure specs will be cut down to keep costs down. So consider yourself lucky. We are peasants.
I have the A17 model with the 3060. I definitely noticed the heat and throttling issues pretty quickly. I replaced the stock thermal paste on the CPU and GPU with liquid metal and this not only cut GPU temps by nearly 10 degrees but allowed the CPU to run at higher boosts at max temperature. With the liquid metal I was able to use Afterburner to squeeze an extra 100mhz from the GPU processor and RAM (on top of the boost OC) and was getting benchmarks results almost rivaling the 115w TDP models. I plan to carefully cut some more vents and am creating a custom cooling pad/box that I can place the laptop in when I'm gaming or video editing from my laptop in order to keep operating temperatures down during extended workloads. But other than that, for the price I paid (AUD $2,000 (around $1,500 US) I honestly couldn't have assembled a desktop with similar performance for anywhere NEAR that price!

If you have a budget limit, we'll, this is the best what you can get from the market, All other models with this gpu and cpu together will just ask 50 %more from you, I think that this device is just enough to do whatever you want to do, And still not going to rub the bank.
@@hasnihossainsami8375 So suddenly sharing heatpipes with a CPU that throttles at 95c underload isn't going to effect the GPUs temperature negatively? Oh wait Ryzen is magic like he just said. The heat from the ryzen cpu magically disappears away from the gpu, it just knows not to get near the GPU while sharing the same heatpipes. It's something amd integrated into their new laptop CPUs, called "smart heat."
ASUS put 3070 inside but cap its thermal at 75 degrees lmao. This laptop is the best for those paranoid about overheating even if the temperatures merely reach 80 degrees when gaming.
It's kinda depressing to see the trend on gaming laptops today by making it slimmer, stripping off the 2.5" drive bay in favour of "larger" battery and only retain the two M.2 slots when NVMe drives is still expensive AF in terms of price/GB. Not to mention of how rubbish the "configurable" TGP for all Nvidia RTX 3000 mobile GPUs by laptop OEMs instead of sticking to a fixed TGP for each mobile GPU model! 🤦♂️
Ideally there should be both options, the bulky highest performance less hardware compromise and slim balanced hardware compromised ones, with build quality and portability features

Hi Jarrod, can you have an explanation what things affect battery life on laptop? Because this laptop has the longest one. I'm curious what affected it, maybe you can have another video to explain it.
Nothing out of ordinary these days.. I already set my eyes on this 240hz ver. Bcuz of the sRGB% as well with the 90w battery.. good thing they improve the TUF a15 2021.. having all the hype for the first launch of a15 and ended up in dissatisfaction.. Another one is HP Omen..slick design tbh. My $500 Acer laptop can handle 2 or 3 hours of use without charging which is suck but since that how it works for 2017 laptops..

I love Jerrod’s videos but the best part so far is the small bit of a Linux support at the end. Thank you very much for using Ubuntu my distro of choice. I really wish the Zephyrus G 14 and G 15 had firmware support for the keyboard lighting Shortcuts built right in, Which I know only because Jarrod’s previous videos
I bought the last year model and changing the power management from aggressive to efficient got me almost 10 °C lower the CPU temperature with minimal impact to FPS, I would like you to test this change in this and other laptops
Seems like a decent laptop. I have a desktop I use for editing videos in adobe premiere pro and was looking for a budget friendly option that would be mobile (laptop) to allow me to edit while working away. This one appears to check the boxes and very budget friendly at around $1450 AUD currently (this is the 3050).

I just recently bought the ASUS TUF A15 (with RTX 3060).. 1 PROBLEM I had was with video streaming (audio out of sync). To help others the FIX is (Just download the latest Nividia Drivers and reinstall). I also have 1 quirk when the laptop goes asleep the laptop monitor comes on but no the external monitor (ASUS VP28U 4k monitor I use a USB C to HDMI cable). (I GET NO SIGNAL) I have to turn the monitor off/on or switch hdmi input)... to get it back on. Anyone knows how to fix this so the external monitor comes on right away. But overall I am happy with this laptop coming from a Lenovo i3 (with intel 630 graphics); at least I have a RTX 3060 system just wish there was more VRAM...so far most games I play don't need more than 6 gigs VRAM.
@@jesvinj6286 I disabled the AMD integrated graphics and had RTX 3060 which caused the audio out of sync when streaming. So I renabled the AMD integrated graphics and everything works fine. Hey Jarrod, do you think they'll remove the gpu power throttling in future updates? Bit disheartening as I got this laptop recently and thought it was performing fine. But now I feel like returning it and getting a ROG strix, even though it's overpriced compared to this.
So can this model bypass optimus/has the MUX Switch ? I'm planning to buy one with R7 4800H, RTX 3050 for the price of $950. (Might be lower due to discounts). My final hold back is the optimus. are there anyways to disable it? I saw in armory crate software an option to turn off iGPU, but it's not mentioned in the video. Thanks Jarrod

I think Metabox is good I saw sometimes they have 40% discounts but there is not much currently on.

If you have the money, get a Legion 5 Pro. The thermals are way better. Also the screen is way superior and sold it for me. Also the RTX 3070 is performs much better at 140W than 70 plus watts. You'll just have to deal with the large 300W power adapter. Just get a 65W PD charger if you need to bring it to work or school, but don't game on the PD charger.

I got last years model with 4800h and 1660ti and never had a problem with it, never got why it got so much hate 😀
Are you sure you didn’t burn your hands
@@the_golden_s5682 nope not once 👀😀 lol to be honest,I don't do video editing or content creation on it nothing like that, just use it for gaming and Web browsing 🤭
@@tech_jims I think you got what I cal a blessed unit
The people have select hate for some stuff. I got a Dell G5 5505 which most reviewers agree is a toasty laptop with poor thermals.
My laptop mostly runs at 55 degree celcius while watching movies and web browsing and runs at 85 degree Celsius on gaming.
The thing people tend to ignore is that while hardware issues are difficult to solve but most of them can be remediated via firmware and software updates
If you have a budget limit, we'll, this is the best what you can get from the market,
All other models with this gpu and cpu together will just ask 50 %more from you,
I think that this device is just enough to do whatever you want to do,
And still not going to rub the bank.
seems like asus purposely made the throttle limit lower so as to seperate it from its higher-end lappy's like g15, g14, etc. 😕😕
My 3060 A15 shoots upto 88 °C. So I don't agree with this.
people think ryzen are magics and doesn't get hot as intel, you are anti nuanced people it's frightening
@@AlbertRei3424 pretty sure he's talking about the 3070 thermal throttling at 74 degrees, which has nothing to do with Ryzen
@@AlbertRei3424 yeah, fully agreed. Intel also can be undervolted and it drops temps a lot :)
I HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS 🙏
ASUS put 3070 inside but cap its thermal at 75 degrees lmao.
🤦♂️
Care to explain the disadvantages in simpler terms?
Ideally there should be both options, the bulky highest performance less hardware compromise and slim balanced hardware compromised ones, with build quality and portability features
an incremental improvement, but an improvement nonetheless
thanks for the detailed review, Jarrod!
Thanks for watching!
I have the 3060 version, and im happy with it
I bought this (with the "worse" screen, which i still find ok tbh) 2 months ago for 1300€ which was/is a great deal for the amount of performance you get i think
I got got 506 model, for 1700 aud, was on cleanse, with the 144 hz screen, gtx 1650ti, ryzen 7 4800h, can still play almost every game i have, cept apex, at decent detail and fps
Only downside is the battery. Cannot get through a day of school, though with sa in lockdown that's not necessary. Doesn't even last an hour on downloads

Hi Jarrod, can you have an explanation what things affect battery life on laptop? Because this laptop has the longest one. I'm curious what affected it, maybe you can have another video to explain it.
90watt hour battery, previous years use ~60 watt hour.
Previous year have option to use 90wh by using hdd slot, but most laptop in market use ~60
Hey guys, does anyone else have problems with changing keyboard colour on ASUS TUF A15 2021 model? I go into armoury crate-device-system-lighting and doesn't matter which basic effect i select i cant choose colour, only effect sensitivity. Even if i go into AURA CREATOR i can only see my mouse on the list.. How can i solve this issue?
I love Jerrod’s videos but the best part so far is the small bit of a Linux support at the end.
Thank you very much for using Ubuntu my distro of choice. I really wish the Zephyrus G 14 and G 15 had firmware support for the keyboard lighting Shortcuts built right in, Which I know only because Jarrod’s previous videos
No problem!
I bought the last year model and changing the power management from aggressive to efficient got me almost 10 °C lower the CPU temperature with minimal impact to FPS, I would like you to test this change in this and other laptops
i got the 2020 model 2 months ago and feel very sad😣
Which one should i get?
Nitro 5 2021 or TUF a15 2021?
These specs confuse the hell out of me. I need professional help.
I had the same question.
Any professional here?
YAYAYAY FINALLY! THANKS Jarod for the great review!
battery life of the laptop is on another planet 😂😂
Seems like a decent laptop. I have a desktop I use for editing videos in adobe premiere pro and was looking for a budget friendly option that would be mobile (laptop) to allow me to edit while working away. This one appears to check the boxes and very budget friendly at around $1450 AUD currently (this is the 3050).
still worth it? now selling for about 1700 with the 3050 model.
@@xshar4 i rate it a decent laptop. Would recommend.
Nice improvements. In my country Asus A15 is much cheaper than Lenovo or HP so its definitelly a nice product. Let them get rid off that gamer design and it will be a laptop I would consider.
I don't understand why people don't like gaming looks.
Personally I love a gaming themed laptop.
I understand some will not like a gaming look one but each and everyone seems to hate it.

Hi Jarrod will you recommend the Asus TUF A15 or Lenovo Legion 5 for gaming?
Same question.
Legion 5 i thnk it bttr
Great one! Would you think of doing a comparison between this and the nitro in the future?
I cannot, as my TUF had a 3070 and my Nitro has a 3060. If ASUS send a 3060 TUF then sure.
@@JarrodsTech good to know, surprised the tuf beated the Omen in CPU performance

The noise segment is not useful. How do you expect your viewers to translate a microphone and DB readings to real life settings? Perhaps you could test the computer at various load levels while speaking at a normal volume. I guess, that would make it applicable for most people.
I have a 2020 version and the laptop power plug is so extremely loose that breathing on it makes it show unplugged, but touching it makes it plugged in. It is so annoying. I won't be buying anything from ASUS again.

finally, i can say that i am now using the same laptop as the subject in this video, great video btw!
Nice to know we have options 😌

Thanks for the awesome video Jarrod. I was wondering why you didn't mention the RAM speeds and would that particular system benefit from faster RAM, like what you've found to be the case for many other current gaming laptops. Keep up the good work, I'm always excited when you release a new video :D
great review as usual Jarrod.
I think the studio is too dim u need a brighter setup and the audio is very deep seems that the mic needs adjustment.
Dual Ram slot is nice, unlike higher-end Asus laptop with one.
Pretty good laptop with the 240hz screen, but the 144hz screen is NOT recommended if you have eyesight:).
Why?
i wonder if the back cover and the heatsinks are compatible to fit with the 2020 version. if it does then the older model owners can do a self upgrade by ordering those
Hey Jarrod, can you do a review of the Acer Predator Triton 500 SE with 3070?
Great video as usual btw 🔥
Bro I have the same issue where in video streaming the audio was out of sync but only when laptop is running on battery. When plugged in it runs fine.
@@jesvinj6286 I disabled the AMD integrated graphics and had RTX 3060 which caused the audio out of sync when streaming. So I renabled the AMD integrated graphics and everything works fine. Other than that the Laptop is working fine. Thanks

Hey Jarrod, do you think they'll remove the gpu power throttling in future updates? Bit disheartening as I got this laptop recently and thought it was performing fine. But now I feel like returning it and getting a ROG strix, even though it's overpriced compared to this.
Does the USB type C supports video output of 120hz @4k?.
Mux switch is not present in tuf series. You have to connect external display via type-c to bypass it.
Idk why most people worry about screen wobble and keyboard flex when it’s not like you’re going to be pressing down on it and shaking the screen lmao
Hi Jarrod. I have a Asus Tuf I got 2 years ago, the fans are so bad they are so noisy, one actually has crumbled it was such bad plastic and I turned it off today, Even on Silent it sounds like a Jet. I think Metabox is good I saw sometimes they have 40% discounts but there is not much currently on.
I was planning to buy new laptop. I confused either new A15 or legion 5 pro. Looking the price of A15 that 500$ much cheaper than legion. Make me doubt how thermal solution in new A15. Thanks jarrod, no reviewer i saw before that explain thermal on A15. It helps me a lot to consider buying laptop
What is the price of the nitro 5? if its similarly priced to the tuf a15, go for that (provided the specs are similar).
