I was in Ireland in 2018 (before Covid and crazy travel restrictions everywhere). It was, what I called a "genealogy tour," a trip to check out the places where my family lived when they were there (mostly the Kilkenny and Limerick areas). It was awesome and everyone was super nice to me. As far as accents are concerned, in general they were easy to understand. There was one poor girl who worked at a restaurant in Limerick; she talked so fast that I couldn't understand her and had to keep asking her to repeat herself. They also use some idiomatic expressions that are different for Americans.

Next time you go to get a bowl of cereal you will find an empty box because the person who emptied it never threw it away and just put it back in the cabinet empty so now you have to go down to the store and get more and because of that you will be late for work.

I visited Dublin for a concert in 2019. I was only there for a weekend, the rest of the trip was in Scotland. While I've only been to about a dozen countries other than the US, I've not felt more welcomed in any of them than I did in Ireland. I plan to go back and visit again for a longer trip.

Married 53 happy years. My lovely passed away 2 weeks ago. Love your channel. Glad you came to Texas. Seldom known fact, the majority of the men who died at our Alamo had Irish roots.

Lucky charms were readily available in irish supermarkets in the early 90s as far as I remember. We were only allowed them very rarely as my mother considered them "trash food". Then I think something in them (maybe "e numbers"?) was banned in Ireland and they didn't come back until about 5 or so years ago.

An ageing Englishman here who just happened upon your you tube channel. For years, I have said that my personal two favourite accents in English are standard RP English English accent (Fiona Bruce for example) but top of the list is the middle class, educated, cultured Dubliner accent - I inwardly swoon - male or female when that kind of accent is being spoken around me. Your accent, Diane is gorgeous.
As for the American attitude towards the whole Irish/English thing - I hardly know a street in England without a resident Irishman or woman - mostly married to an Englishman/woman. I have been to the Republic of Ireland many times and my accent gives me away as a Southern Englishman immediately. I have only ever been treated properly and respectfully as the minimum but generally very warmly as the Irish are generally wonderful. Indeed, when I have been in mixed company with Irish, English and Americans , what we, the English and the Irish have in common normally bonds us together more easily. Good luck with your channel Diane. Love from London.

One of the nicest places i've ever gone to.Me and a friend went there to do a bike ride through there and theUK..the first day out from landing in Shannon..we ran into a guy at a local pub telling us to say hello to his cousin in cHICAGO..a family where we had to take shelter during a torrential downpour..that offered us coffee..and a bartender that smacked my hand away from a pint of Guiness telling me to "Wait!!"..and the best part was that the airline had damaged my buddies bike..and this dude in Shannon pointed down an alleyway, and we were very leary.came back out with the part to fix my friends bike..and we asked what we owed him..and he said nothing..so we gave him a couple of saqwagiah dollar coins as a memento..It rains alot there..we were drying out 50 and 100 pound notes that were absoulety soaked from the rain in our hotel room..best experience of my life
