High maintenance usually means that the woman has very high demands for material things. It can include cars, type of home, high end clothing, etc. they do not care about the cost involved in maintaining that lifestyle. It's about a social status to them
As an American, I agree with this answer the most. Time women spend on their appearance can also be included, but that time typically is associated with a monetary value. @@LindaC616 Nah bra, if the first date has to be at a high end steak house (or vegan raw foodie thing), that's the start of a high maintenance relationship. If the first date is a fun date that peripherally involves Dairy Queen after other fun activities, that's a low maintenance relationship.
Thank you for doing these videos, I'm actually learning a lot about myself from you. I'm American but my heritage is about half Irish. I find myself relating much more to the Irish side of your comparisons between Irish and American even though I've lived in America my whole life. Very interesting

High maintenance. Watch the movie, "when Harry met Sally" it explains it in the movie. Being low maintenance is a good thing in guys eyes. The grooming thing goes slipping with high maintenance.
With her blue eyes, shapely nose, flowing hair and quick, genuine smile. As long as she has a body (with all of its original parts), any man would be lucky to see it.
The needing attention is definitely part of maintenance, but I've always thought of high maintenance as including the paying for all dates, gifts on holidays and for random reasons, and all the drama. Since you specifically mentioned that splitting the bill on dates, that moves Irish women into the lower maintenance sphere.
My Russian friend who was in Germany at the time, was happily surprised I paid for everything when we were together. That is just one of the cultural differences that makes life fun.
High maintenance is more than just attentiveness, it's being financially, emotionally, psychologically, physically, and otherwise taxingly drained with a huge dose of drama to round it all off with. It's like being owned, and not in a fun way.
To me, high maintenance means they have to have the best of everything. It’s easy to get the woman to pay, just leave your money at home. 😂 Nice list! ❤️U🍀🇺🇸🇮🇪
Diane High maintenance woman in America refers that a lady expects the guy to pay for everything whether it's the 1st date or marriage. A high maintenance lady will expect a man to buy expensive items typically eat at expensive restaurants($300 or greater meal), demands $$$$$ jewelry/shoes/clothes/house/vacations Bora Bora, New Zealand, Rome, Paris/cars etc.
"High maintenance" is a euphemism for "difficult and demanding." "Low maintenance" is a euphemism for "easygoing." Re fake tan, realize that its heyday in America was 20 years ago. It has since become a cliche and now is frowned upon. Whereas the "pale pasty potato" look is actually in here; it's considered exotic and sexy. The grooming move for a pale-skinned woman in America now is not to get a tan - it's to stay pale (or even wear powder) and dye her hair red like Christina Hendricks or Jessica Chastain.
How about a video comparing and contrasting the overall American bar versus the Irish pub experience? Thanks for making these videos - they really help me take my mind off the shelter in place stir craziness!

My interaction with Irish women consist of 2 young ladies that I watch on RUclips. Hard to make any rational judgments based on that. Oh well, back to the video.
I like three Irish ladies of RUclips... two of which have been handcuffed together on one of their videos 😉. That being said, I think these 3 amazing young ladies are among the best of their generation while their moms are among the best of that generation for raising them as well as they have.
"American vs Irish Men" video? Yes, please. 2:35 "Potato body," says the Irish girl. 😂 "High maintenance" vs "low maintenance" - Dating some women is a full-time job. It's not just _paying attention,_ it's a constant requirement to provide affirmation, reassurance, and reinforcement. It's also a spectrum: rather than a binary: "higher" vs "lower" rather than "high" vs "low" maintenance.. 8:30 American women don't merely _hold_ grudges, they caress and fondle and cherish and *nurture* their grudges. If you seriously piss an American woman off, *she will never forget.* In my experience.
I cannot vouch for the validity of this list because you, Diane are really the only Irish girl I know, and that is only from the internets. I do agree that people of both genders are more body conscious in warmer climates where they generally wear less. From my limited experience, many European women don't expect a guy to pay on the 1st date. Was it a cloudy day there, and the sun kept coming going out and then going behind clouds? The lighting there seemed to be fading in and out for a lot of the video. It was not distracting, this is another wonderful video. I have noticed you take compliments better. Thank you for doing all that you do.
high maintenance means: needs hair done, nails done, fancy shoes, lots of fancy make up, lots of expensive shoes and clothes, never see her without fully being done up / Low maintenance means: doesn't need much, happy the way they are, wears little to no make up, wears sneakers, can be fancy but generally isn't everyday
Diane may I start off by saying, #6 I love the videos you make, and Chewie is a BLAST. Speaking for myself on paying for everything on a date. That is the way I was raised. The man always pays. I just came across your channel today and have watched a few of them. So part of this post will also be for previous videos. When the scare is lifted and we can all go back to a semi-normal life. Please do plan to come back to America. IF you do stop in North Carolina we can show you around and even take you skydiving if you want. When you do decide to come back let us all know on your site and then say the following... "Where should I go and Why?" You will find a lot of people here willing to help and play tour guide for you. Something to think about. Great Videos and keep up the good work.
My Irish girl stereotype: all Irish women talk with a very hot accent. My American girl stereotype: university educated American women want the three sixes: 6 feet tall, 6 figure income, and have a six-pack.
In regards to taking a compliment: I used to have a really difficult time doing that until I had a boyfriend say that when you discount a compliment from someone it offends them. As if you were telling them they don't have very good taste. It was uncomfortable at first but I did learn to just start saying thank you after a while and leaving it there
I can only comment on the experience that I've had. I have only met one Irish woman, and it was in a workplace setting. I found her to be very shy, but once we connected (as friends) she was a very faithful and attentive friend. Even then, I found it difficult to tell if she was, say having a bad day or if there was some way to comfort and encourage her through a bad day. She seemed more interested in what was going on with me, then she was talking about what was going on with her.
What I think high maintenance means; it means you got to do a lot to keep up your looks (manicures, pedicures, lashes, waxing, botox, fat freezing, laser hair removal, facials, haircuts, hair extensions, hair dyeing, hair masks, not to mention all the skincare and makeup) idk is it just me😂
At my local WalMart in New Orleans, the butter selection was very poor.... a lot of empty spaces on shelves.... BUT they had KerryGold and I bought it because I have heard you praise it! I look forward to trying it out soon! :)
I think, I THINK, the "high maintenance" one and the "takes compliments" one are linked. I COULD be wrong, probably am, but from what I have encountered, American women require more assurance in regards their looks, weight, hair, attire, where as Irish women SEEM to see such compliments as more, "Okay, what are you after? What do you want, complimenting me?"
There are many diffences culturally and more social pressure as there are many beautiful woman on the human level world wide .I think you have nailed it with the grass is always greener on the other side as well. As with most comparisons results may vary regaurdless of the country of origin .I personally have been attracted to light or pale skin also Diane is an absolutley A stunning example of A beautiful Irish woman who presents great content .Thank you lass keep it up !
I think "high maintenance" means two things: 1) that they do more about their appearance and public image (fussing over their makeup and clothes, caring what others think about them, etc) and 2) that they require more from their partners -- not just attention, but also they want their partners to be fashionable and respectable, too. In general, a low maintenance person accepts things as they are and a high maintenance person has elaborate plans to improve things and draws their partner into these plans. Anyway, that's my impression.
Just in case...Before I even watch any of your Videos, I hit like first...as not forget too. What I'm trying to say is,,,,I enjoy all of your Vids. Cheers for that and Craic on!
American guy here: Not sure which is hotter: Irish vs American women. I love hearing Irish girls talk. Probably why I love your channel & listen you to you often!
My definition of high maintenance. Wearing makeup all the time, having your hair done, and dressing up all the time. No slack days (wearing sweatpants while eating a bag of chips and ice cream on the couch). Expecting the best shoes, cloths, makeup, etc as gifts. Ecpecting the best of everything all the time.
I think a bunch of these relate to one another. Being "body conscious" "high maintenance" and "well groomed" (and having better teeth) are all related. To a large extent, all of these things relate to being more concerned about outward appearance and how we are perceived by others. Having a more "high maintenance" attitude, will generally lead to spending more time, energy, and money on grooming, makeup, clothing, fitness, etc.
I think one of your last points you made, the one about teeth and both countries leveling out, is very relatable across the entire spectrum you covered. In recent decades we've become loads more connected globally thanks to the internet, including fabulous vlog channels like this one😁 so we're all slowly adapting parts of each other's cultures into our own on a much faster scale than ever before. We've been a melting pot for a long time here in the states, and even that is now flowing out into other places of the world that were previously kinda secluded. America!!....bringing Americanism to the world! 🙄 kind of a depressing thought really, lol, but I love that we're all so well connected.

Having nearly no personal experience with Irish women, I'll just sit back and listen
and be entertained
I wouldn't even know where to find an Irish girl in America. I've never met one that I know of.
@@GhorigOfTheHranFel seriously
American women are very focused on desired outcome.
Do a men’s list
"Do a men’s list". FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, NOOOO! I'm a man, yes I am, and I can't help but love you so.
Paying is usually left to the person who asked for the date.
I've never had status, so humor for the win.
Hello from TEXAS! Just subscribed today after binge watching about 15 of your vids. Keep up the entertaining work and come back soon! We miss you so much it hurts!! 🤠
Never use coupons on the first date!
Her: Where would you like to eat?
Me: I got coupons for the Dairy Queen.
Don Pedigo see if think there’s was smart
I'm not sure that it's so much the coupon as the Dairy Queen, lol! If there's a nice dinner, I am perfectly cool with a coupon for Dairy Queen for dessert. But having dinner at Dairy Queen? Nah, bro, you have to save that for 3 years into the relationship! 😆
@@LindaC616 Nah bra, if the first date has to be at a high end steak house (or vegan raw foodie thing), that's the start of a high maintenance relationship. If the first date is a fun date that peripherally involves Dairy Queen after other fun activities, that's a low maintenance relationship.
@@phillipsofthedriver
There's a world of difference between steaks and fast food. Ice cream isn't "fun", but that's a question of individual taste
@@LindaC616 what part of peripherally did you not understand?
Thank you for doing these videos, I'm actually learning a lot about myself from you. I'm American but my heritage is about half Irish. I find myself relating much more to the Irish side of your comparisons between Irish and American even though I've lived in America my whole life. Very interesting
Geoffrey Wilson aww that’s good to hear!
I think that what they mean is hair cuts, getting your nails done, facials, spa days, that is what I as a American would think that they would mean if they said, she's high maintenance, she requires alot to keep up appearances
Old Plumbers wisdom Diane: "The grass is always greener, over the Septic Tank."
The Southern United States has always had its own code of chivalry that still hangs on today.
It's not just a southern thing. Although I imagine it's better received, I often get strange/dirty looks, holding doors or standing when a lady enters for example. It's a lost code.
@@burtmacklin6443 I have noticed that usually the younger, more urban crowd and the people who moved to the South from the north or west coast get pissy when you're polite to them. Born-and-bred Southern women, on the other hand, will literally stand there in front of a door looking at you until you open it for them lol.
After 30-something years, I think I'll stick with my American woman. Still love Irish videos though!
as an american girl i find it extremely rude if a guy doesn’t offer to pay
Some guys are always looking for the woman to pay for everything. Drop them like a hot potato!
You have a great sense of humor.
Number Nine reminds me of Mrs Doyle and her friend fighting about who's going to pay for the tea.
"Take the money! Take the money!"
Accurate
🤣💚
Taken out of context. "When the sun comes out, the clothes come off."
Me & almost every man I know in America doesn't brag about their status when hitting on a woman. That turns a lot of them off
Yes, of course we want to see the other way around! I can’t wait!
I like when a woman holds her booze, is low maintenance whether she's Irish, american, or any other nationality. Stay safe weirdo hahaha
Diane’s hair is always on point!
Thank you! SEE?!
natural good looks like her's need little maintenance
I just Love the Irsh accent, your accents are just So attractive, I wish I could find and Irish girl or Galway girl around here in the US, but love your videos Diane
If a guy doesn't pay for dinner for an American girl on the first date, there won't be a second date.
Pasty white women forever! We only have 3 days of sun in the summer none in the winter.😎😎
3 is still better than one (Sweden)... 🤷
Love all your videos girl 💕 Julie from Ireland.
"Have you ever seen the Seagulls ah flin' over heather or the crimson sails on Goey Bay the fisherman unfurl? The Earth is filled with beauty and it's gathered all together, in the form and face and dainty grace of a Pretty Irish Girl." Oh....She is my dear my darling one, her eyes so sparking full of fun, no other, no other could match the likes of her, etc, etc"...
Cheers!
Great video again Diane! I just wanted to thank you for helping me pass the self Sheltering time.
High maintenance. Watch the movie, "when Harry met Sally" it explains it in the movie. Being low maintenance is a good thing in guys eyes.
The grooming thing goes slipping with high maintenance.
I really love this video.Happy Monday.
i bet your “pale pasty potato body” looks fantastic.
That was my favorite
With her blue eyes, shapely nose, flowing hair and quick, genuine smile. As long as she has a body (with all of its original parts), any man would be lucky to see it.
You are very well groomed. Always put together
My experience in dating American women is men pay for everything on the first dates. After establishing a relationship paying equals out
Been in the USA for 60 plus years -- where the devil are you finding such women?
Just found this chanel and I love it. Thanks a million. Keep up the fun.
The needing attention is definitely part of maintenance, but I've always thought of high maintenance as including the paying for all dates, gifts on holidays and for random reasons, and all the drama. Since you specifically mentioned that splitting the bill on dates, that moves Irish women into the lower maintenance sphere.
That makes sense!
Perfect definition!
To me, high maintenance means they have to have the best of everything. It’s easy to get the woman to pay, just leave your money at home. 😂 Nice list! ❤️U🍀🇺🇸🇮🇪
L S 😂😂🤣 you think an American woman is going to carry cash with her on a date?! Dude you’ll be in the kitchen washing dishes before she pays.
Yeah and if you try that tactic I can pretty much guarantee you won't see her again
Some women have zero sense of humor. It was just a joke.😂
"High maintenance" is a euphemism for "difficult and demanding." "Low maintenance" is a euphemism for "easygoing."
Re fake tan, realize that its heyday in America was 20 years ago.
Liking re-assurance/attention versus being unable to take compliments? Yeah, that's a bit high maintenance ... or just human.
🙈
Hello! New sub from Chicago 🤗 I’m enjoying your content, thanks for keeping me entertained while in quarantine.
I just started watching the video and you said...."and I'll be arguing them". Typical!!! I'll just leave that there. 🤐
😂
Hi Diane great video you look Gorgeous, I hope you have a wonderful week!
Oh man, I kinda want to hear how bad the women tear apart the men now that you've opened up Pandora's Box hahaha. This was fun! Thanks and happy Monday!
Chewie is so chill in the background lol
My interaction with Irish women consist of 2 young ladies that I watch on RUclips. Hard to make any rational judgments based on that. Oh well, back to the video.
p.s. CHEWIE!!
only one for me so, yep
I like three Irish ladies of RUclips... two of which have been handcuffed together on one of their videos 😉.
That being said, I think these 3 amazing young ladies are among the best of their generation while their moms are among the best of that generation for raising them as well as they have.
I liked the video before watching it because I knew it was going to be a great video, Jennings.
"American vs Irish Men" video? Yes, please.
2:35 "Potato body," says the Irish girl. 😂
"High maintenance" vs "low maintenance" - Dating some women is a full-time job.
My man brought the science AND the personal😅... Executed beautifully I'll add
This should be interesting! :-D
I'm baking bread today after being inspired by your attempt @ baking bread also, an American/Irish men vid would be good.
I Love Irish Girls!!!!!!!
I would NEVER go on a second date with a guy who did not pay for the first one.
AMERICAN GIRL🇺🇸💙💙
high maintenance means: needs hair done, nails done, fancy shoes, lots of fancy make up, lots of expensive shoes and clothes, never see her without fully being done up / Low maintenance means: doesn't need much, happy the way they are, wears little to no make up, wears sneakers, can be fancy but generally isn't everyday
I'm American and I've spent time in Ireland, American women are more uptight and less approachable.
At the risk of being crass, when American males refer to a girl's "frontage", I don't think "land" is foremost in their minds.
Yes, please bash the men! Lol. We need to learn how we are perceived by women.
In regards to taking a compliment:
I used to have a really difficult time doing that until I had a boyfriend say that when you discount a compliment from someone it offends them.
Diane is just enchanting as all get!!!
What I think high maintenance means; it means you got to do a lot to keep up your looks (manicures, pedicures, lashes, waxing, botox, fat freezing, laser hair removal, facials, haircuts, hair extensions, hair dyeing, hair masks, not to mention all the skincare and makeup) idk is it just me😂
When I wasn’t married the way a man won me over was he was in uniform. I prefer confident men. Self deprecating is not sexy (I’m a woman btw)
You should do a dating show based on this. You’d make an amazing host!
At my local WalMart in New Orleans, the butter selection was very poor.... a lot of empty spaces on shelves.... BUT they had KerryGold and I bought it because I have heard you praise it! I look forward to trying it out soon! :)
Cullen Donnelly it’s REALLY nice
I think, I THINK, the "high maintenance" one and the "takes compliments" one are linked. I COULD be wrong, probably am, but from what I have encountered, American women require more assurance in regards their looks, weight, hair, attire, where as Irish women SEEM to see such compliments as more, "Okay, what are you after? What do you want, complimenting me?"
That top is nice. That color looks good on you, Diane.
I am an American of Irish decent (among other countries) and I could watch this young lady for days! Good on you!
Girl your awsom I love all your post... Thanks
This was an excellent video. Good job!
Dating any woman around the world is always very serious. Do not let culture deceive you.
This was a really funny video 😂. Pretty spot on in parts concerning the American ladies. I can't wait to hear opinions about the guys
Just in case...Before I even watch any of your Videos, I hit like first...as not forget too.
What I'm trying to say is,,,,I enjoy all of your Vids. Cheers for that and Craic on!
Kenny Craig aww Thank you!
