    I can't even imagine what her voice would have sounded like deep into her thirties. Even Whitney didn't get going until she was in her 30s. What a loss, but the same time, what a treasure.

    • @veronicajade20
      @veronicajade20 2 года назад +2

      Um, no. _Amy's voice_ didn't sound the same btwn her first & second albums, nor did she _physically look the same_ again - likely b/c of the hard drugs she started abusing, as her ex-husband said. I personally think that affected Amy's voice too.

    • @veronicajade20
      @veronicajade20 2 года назад +7

      Btw, do you _think_ Whitney Houston, in America's 1980's whitewashed music & media industries, where they _barely showed black people on tv, could've sung the way Amy Winehouse did w/ references to explicit sex, curse words, & drug use, a guttural voice, & negative emotions _gotten anywhere near_ the mainstream music platform, music charts, media attention, let alone financial compensation _commensurate with her vocal talent?!_ No, she probably would've ended up another _unknown_ 1980's black female back-up singer to lesser white/non-black entertainers, like many _extremely_ talented black female singers. Even at the end of her life, the American media completely demeaned Whitney as a nothing but a skinny, washed up, "cr@ck-head" of poor personal character while they still write about Marilyn Monroe's drug overdose as though she was some sad, tormented "victim" in crisis. It's unfair compare Whitney Houston's extremely powerful sound on impersonal songs on her mainstream 1980's pop records to Amy Winehouse's guttural, raw, pained sound on her _extremely personal_ Back to Black breakup record. That's _absurd._

    • @armenattallah16
      @armenattallah16 2 года назад +31

      @@veronicajade20 wow. I agree with you. But I wasn't comparing their voices. That would be absurd. I was simply referring to Whitneys voice getting better as she grew into her 30s. Of course drugs screwed up both their voices. But I would never compare their voices. Two different styles. As far as your other commentary on society, yes, society is terrible. No argument there.

    I miss her every day. She was an incredible human. I first met her after I used a fake ID to get into one of her shows. After the show,, we ran into her at a tiny pub. No one really recognized her, because at that point she had wrapped her hair in a small headscarf, and took off her eye makeup. We were playing pool, and she was trying to get in on the table. My best mate was kind of like "you can either wait or play against us". She waited without saying a word. Smoking was still allowed indoors at the time, and she had one fag left. She went in the corner to light it and it fell in her drink. She started swearing like mad, and that's when I knew it was her (her voice). I offered her one of mine, and she said "you are a darling, what's your name?" and we got to talking.
    Then she gave me her personal mobile number. She was so nonchalant about it, like she wasn't famous and didn't just perform an amazing show. I wasn't "starstruck" because I didn't really know who she was, and I didn't become a fan of hers until that night after seeing her perform live. We ended up bar hopping until like 4am. as people kind of recognized her. She had me and my best mate come with her and her body gaurd... she was basically alone and she hated being recognized in public. We got to talking music, and she didn't really want to talk about her own stuff. We talked about Nas and Lauryn Hill, and even did mini freestyle rap battles. We got close.
    We saw each other half a dozen times since, and it was always about music and playing pool. We would text message a lot, and it was always like little raps. She was always into just kind of freestyle rapping when she was having a night out. She never talked about her own music. It was very personal to her. One time, we were talking about our ideal collaborations. She was obsessed with Nas at the time, and I had said "you should collaborate with him". She shut down. Like, she was like "I could never, I'm not a legend, I'm not famous, and I don't want to be, I don't want to talk business. I don't want to talk about my personal life". I tried to make a joke like "Okay, I'll collab with him instead. Can you teach me how to play the guitar first?". She made a weird drink of SoCo, vodka, baileys, and some other stuff. She downed like three of them in less than 5 minutes, then eventually came over and said "You have to pick it up and hold it if you want to start learning, darling"
    In hindsight, it makes sense why she was always pissed to keep performing songs from Back to Black, because it was almost entirely about Blake. Because she never talked to me about her own music, I will never know... but I feel like she would have been happier performing random covers than she would songs from Back to Black.
    I get angry at her label and her father for forcing her to keep performing after the divorce. At that point, she had grown to super famous, and I only got to see her once at a studio. She was just surrounded by her team and bodyguard. It was completely different.
    Alcohol didn't kill Amy. "Misadventure" didn't kill Amy. Her fame, and her father's greed are what killed Amy.
    RIP ❤

      100% agree! Frank was pretty much a straightforward modern jazz album and her vocals were unbelievable. It still haunts me to remember how cruel the press and public were to her in her darkest days. The paparazzi literally camped outside of her apartment and put her on the cover of every tabloid for YEARS looking skeletal, bloodied, crying, completely disheveled, near death and all they could do was ridicule, make jokes and destroy any dignity she had left. I've never seen the world turn on an artist so fast. One day she was being hailed as the greatest new musical artist of her generation, the next she was a grim tabloid punchline. She died a day before my 26th birthday. I was gutted. She deserved so much more than what the world gave her. She was a genius. I absolutely adored her.

    BTW The "F*****y." part came from Salaam Remi's mum who used to use the word a lot Amy just though it was funny so added it in the song.It reminds me of Fats Domino's Blueberry hill.Frank is a superb album in my view there's songs on Frank that are equally as good as any on Back to black. You sent me flying,In my bed,Stronger than me,I heard love is blind,Take the box are all great songs the lyrics on You sent me flying are superb and Amy often performed these songs brilliantly live.You can go back further than Frank with less quality audio songs like Trilby,When my eyes or Jazz 'n' blues.Prorcrastination and Alcoholic logic are also great songs if you look them up search for the better quality audio versions as quite a few are below par.Also her live cover versions of I still care or I love you more than you'll ever know are worth a view too.Amy and Nas have the same birthdays 14th September and Nas has a daughter called Destiny hence the line in the song "Mr Destiny 9 and 14"
