Louis-Nicolas Clérambault - La Magnifique

Compositore, nato a Parigi il 19 dicembre 1676, ed ivi morto il 26 ottobre 1749.
Nacque da una famiglia di musicisti: suo padre e due dei suoi figli furono anch'essi musicisti. In tenerissima età attese allo studio del
violino e del clavicembalo, studiando anche l'organo con André Raison.
Intraprese anche studi di composizione e canto.
Clérambault divenne organista principale nella chiesa degli Agostiniani, entrando anche al servizio di Madame de Maintenon.
Dopo la morte di Luigi XIV e di Nivers, subentrò a quest'ultimo come organista nella celebre e rinomata chiesa di Saint-Sulpice e alla
casa reale di Saint-Cyr, un'istituzione per giovani fanciulle e per la nobiltà decaduta.
Qui fu responsabile di ogni questione musicale, dell'organo, della direzione corale e altro ancora.
Fu qui, luogo ove rimase anche dopo la morte di Madame de Maintenon, che sviluppò il genere della cantata “alla francese” della quale fu maestro indiscusso.
Nel 1719 prese il posto del suo maestro André Raison all'organo della chiesa dei Domenicani.

He was born into a family of musicians: his father and two of his sons were also musicians. At a very young age he devoted himself to
the study of the violin and harpsichord, also studying the organ with André Raison.
He also undertook studies in composition and singing.
Clérambault became the principal organist at the Augustinian church, also entering the service of Madame de Maintenon.
After the death of Louis XIV and Nivers, he took over from the latter as organist at the famous and renowned church of Saint-Sulpice
and at the royal house of Saint-Cyr, an institution for young girls and the impoverished nobility.
Here he was responsible for all musical matters, the organ, choral direction and more.
It was here, where he remained even after the death of Madame de Maintenon, that he developed the genre of the cantata "à la française" of which he was the undisputed master.
In 1719 he took over from his teacher André Raison at the organ of the Dominican church.
