    When fighting the mad clown puppet you don’t have to fight the other enemies. you can fight him in the area near the next stargazer behind him. i did it on 3 runs now. no wonder you had such a terrible time with him. 😂😂😂

      Wanted to comment this, like wth? After my first try I knew this was BS and just ran past all that to see if there was a stargazer nearby. Same with puppet of the future, on my first try I knew the poison was BS so I just kept going, and found the lever to drain it behind a mini-boss. Just use your brain.

    I don’t understand how perfect guard isn’t rewarded when you literally recover health lost and break enemy posture at the same time

      I'm sorry, but if you've used the mechanics neither of those mechanics are rewarding nor are they fun to learn. The game makes you learn them and doesn't make it fun.
      Getting health back is cool, but it's not a whole lot of health nor does the gane let you breath enough to enjoy that regain. And as far as the breaking mechanic, unless you have all the P-organ upgrades to make that better it takes multiple, im talking 10+, perfect parries to break anything.
      Those are neither fun nor rewarding. I don't agree a whole lot with the bitching in this video (no hate to the creators, just don't agree) but those two things suck ass and they are poorly implemented.

      Even without the weapon breaking gimmick, perfect guard deals stagger dmg, let you recover quicker to counter, and perfect guard enough time and it’ll straight up stagger enemies for a few seconds so you can whack them in the face. Not to mention the game has a lot of defensive options to help you stay alive and learn the enemies moveset like guard regain, shield, absolute defense, endure. I just finished beating in NG+ with the Two Dragon Sword just because how good the counter feels, honestly that thing is pretty broken when you get used to the timing.

      @@TheMrrccava breaking a enemies weapon (heavily reducing their damage), health regen and posture damage is very rewarding lol, especially when you use the katana which has a parry built into its charge heavy which means damage on top of all those other benefits

    I would like to point out that the "Shock" status applied by the Door Guardian isn't shock in the electrical sense, but in the other sense of the word. Like, when your body goes into shock. There's also a debuff in the game called Electric Shock which is from electricity type elemental attacks. So yeah, he's not electric, he just kinda hits you so hard that you're so shook that your body can't regenerate stamina as quickly. Shock is absolutely the worst debuff btw. The stamina regen penalty is so massive in this game.

    I like your guys content a lot but I think you kinda missed the mark on this one. You say it's just a bad imitation essentially of a souls game but then don't use the new and different mechanics the game offers and essentially just went for a DS3 Strength build. The amount of variety this game has in ways to approach it whether that be in actual gameplay or weapon choice is imo amazing. By far my favorite non Fromsoft souls-like.
    Also I've seen tons of comments online about the game being too hard and I just didn't feel that it didn't even come close to something like Sword Saint Ishin or Malenia. I think the reason why people are saying this is exactly like what I stated above. The game isn't DS or Bloodbourne or Sekiro. It's a mix and entirely it's own game and is supposed to be played like it's its own game.

      While i share your sentiments, i do think that there are 2 things that are completely unnecessary and 1 other thing that could be improved. Boss runbacks and no buildups for statuses are things i personally would change as i think the dogshit runbacks should be a thing of the past unless your game has a boss rush mode or the option to replay boss fights. No buildups for status is complete bs. And lastly, i think it's reasonable for people to ask for increased parry window by a tiny bit.

      @@fitzviandraduivenab2790 the only real runback is on door guardian, and if you walk a bit to the left from the front of the temple there is a stargazer there too so it isn't that bad either, the dude either didn't trigger the stargazer and had to do the full run from the start of the beach (considering he didn't even bother to read that he could block fury attacks with a perfect guard) or he just sucks at dodging what is essentially 3 small enemies cause when you kill the lizards they don't respawn either

      @@fitzviandraduivenab2790 I agree with the runbacks that is something that should be left in the past and small change to the parry window wouldn't hurt the game. I just was talking more about the game play they decided to showcase and some of the frustrations they had when it looked like they didn't take a different approach to anything. I didn't notice the status build up besides on shock which I can only imagine is a bugged mechanic since the rest of the buildups work how you would imagine. (At least I think unless i just missed that they all worked that way)

      I think half or more than half of the complaints about bosses in some of these games, specially Elden Ring and now this one, has to do with people refusing to play in another way other than R1, dodge, R1, dodge, specially when they mention something about "rhythm of the fight" or something like that. I mean, I get that playing these games as a pure test of skill and disregarding tool experimentation can be a fun experience, but mechanics in these games aren't there for nothing. If you refuse to do anything other than parry, normal attacks and dodging you're sabotaging yourself, and having a "rhythm" to it when fighting bosses like that goes out of the window when you're supposed to counter attack or create windows with the different skills you can use. If you don't want to play a RPG and just play a sport-like pure skill experience just play Sekiro, seriously.

      Yes but the attacks are extremely delayed making them hard to time a parry correctly. They are also unblockable and do crazy damage. It’s essentially unavoidable damage for 90% of players skill level

      I was able to parry most red attacks by the time I got to Swamp Monster. The trick is to not spam block, and to use your full frame window by holding block until you confirm the parry or you confirm that you took damage.
      I didn't end up even needing to pick up the ground dodge from my P Organ. Game isn't easy, for sure, but the only people I see struggle with parries are people that try to mash block or get impatient and get psyched out easy.

    idk if you had known but you could drain the poison vs the puppet of the future, you just have to go out of your way to drain it and fight an annoying furnace puppet

    number 18, none of the gunners respawn if you kill them once, same with the crystal beasts. 30 seconds of your time clearing those before spamming that boss makes the runback very easy

    Watching this video shows that the bosses with multiple approaches can change the players opinion on the fight drastically depending on what they did. I remember my brother playing Lies of P and he absolutely despised the weird spinny arms of scrapped watchman.

    Wait you didn't know until Laxasia that you could parry red attacks? That's on you bro that's one of the first things they teach you I don't know how you went through 97% of the game without knowing that lol
    Side note: I think the Romeo move you were having trouble with is the one where you have to get in close, not run away. If you get outside a certain range it hits you; it's basically the opposite of the other vacuum move

    This is probably the first ranking I’ve seen so far I didn’t like. It’s mostly blatant hating on the bosses instead of getting into their pros and cons. I didn’t enjoy the negativity because the game definitely deserves more than that. There are clear mistakes but for me it’s not even close as bad as you guys represent it.

    Mad clown puppet is one of my favorites, even if it is one of the easiest when you learn his moves. Beat him on my first play through killing everything else in the arena and it isn’t near as frustrating as you make it out to be.

    Funny thing about puppet of the future is you can drain the poison from his swamp, so he doesn’t even have to be last giant in a poison swamp.

    I found puppet of the future to be one of easiest bosses if not the easiest boss in the game, that is if you consider him a boss at all. And you can clear the poison swamp too.
    And the red attack by the green monster boss is extremely easy to parry. You juts press L1 when he is about to make contact with you.

    Imagine refusing to change your play style from a fromsoft game, not following basic instructions like perfect parrying fury attacks, and then complaining that the game is too unfair and not fun. These videos sound super similar to early dark souls reviews when people called the game hard for the sake of being hard because they didn’t understand how to play it.

      It’s not impossible with some study also if you practice it’s really not that hard the problem most players are having is they are so used to mechanics in other games that can’t care to get used to playing without them yes I get it’s annoying to be stopped from attacks but that kinda what makes the game fun to me it feels like a challenge not like I can just easily run and one shot a boss I like being challenged and this was a great gamr

      Would agree, both work well if you Skill the P-Organ right and are capable of doing it, like, pro-Sekiro players can probably perfect block everything, because, well, you can, you can even perfect block ranged magic attacks after all :D Dodge felt harder for me, but with some work and the right parts in the P-Organ it starts to work well too, it feels weaker in the beginning without those upgrades tho.

      I did it to Romeo had like legit one hit I was toast I just kept dodging close towards him and legit watched p just slide to one side I didn’t even hit the direction he went in

      @@Willis_war I mean, that was what I said, you can perfect block pretty much everything, even ranged magic attacks.
      For Dodge, no, you can do it for normal attacks of course and for some red attacks that have a very small hitbox, but the general red attacks ignore any I-frames without the P-Organ upgrade that enables dodging them and have a pretty wide hitbox, so you will get hit if you just do sidesteps. Overall the Dodge feels weak without Upgrades and gets only really good if you are a bit in and can get those upgrades.

    Learning a chapter 1 basic and fundamental mechanic (fury attack parrys) at the last chapter kinda voids a lot of ur points about 80% of the bosses. Decent list tho!

    The puppet of the future was a fun little mini boss and you can actually drain the poison if you find the switch in a nearby tunnel behind a shovel puppet

    fun fact about the first puppet of the future fight you can actually get rid of the corruption goop when you see the red fox and black cat and go past them in a side route through some pipes and past a hidden enemy behind a wall that has the shovel and is on fire, the problem with said enemy is the space is so damn tight you probably will end up hitting your weapon on the sides of the wall if anything

    2:40 the boss isn't using electrisity. Shock means your senses were overwhelmed. Ya know from pain of getting hit by someone whos hand alone is the size of your entire body.

    *Some neat info about Romeo (no spoilers):*
    In the original telling of Pinocchio, Romeo was the most unruly of the boys Pinocchio knew and was given the nickname “Candlewick” on account of his slim build.
    He was what you would call a bad influence, encouraging Pinocchio to smoke, and teaching him sleight of hand tricks. Though as bad as he was, he was still Pinocchios best and only friend besides the otherworldly entities that followed him.
    Unfortunately, because of his wicked behavior, he was the first to be unwillingly transformed into a donkey in the story. His purpose in the story was to serve as an example to what comes of bad behavior. Eventually, at the end of the story, he meets Pinocchio one last time before passing as a donkey.
    I’m sure if you haven’t already noticed, the original Romeo, is very close in story to this Romeo. Gotta hand it to them. They touched on everything and gave it a respectable reference.

    I didn’t have hardly any trouble with the door guardian. After I realized he would go down after 2 fatals, I recognized all of his attacks and waited out until he did the fist slam where he slams his decayed fist down while he kneels down for a few seconds. Gives you enough time to get in and do 3 light attacks on his weak leg. After deciding that I would keep my distance and bait the fist slam, I beat him on the first try with that strat after 4 failed attempts with just attacking any time I could get an opening.

      It's cheesy bit grab the aegis and spam the block button while holding up the aegis, makes it alot easier to perfect guard attacks, and can attack while blocking

    I very much disagree with most of what was said here. I finished my first playthrough yesterday. Sure, it has some minor quirks but for an indy studio, I believe they have gone above and beyond what any sane person could expect. Lies of P is absolutely on the same, if not more impressive level than most of what AAA studios have been putting out for years. Yes, some bosses are extremely difficult, but that's the point. The bosses are made to be difficult for the sake of being difficult because ultimately, that is the very essence of 'souls-like' games. I absolutely loved most of the boss fights in this game. The sense of accomplishment after fighting the same boss over and over again until finally gaining the skills to overcome the challenge is exactly what brings the right person to these games. It sounds like this isn't the genre for you. Your review is incredibly subjective but framed as objective. Not a fan.

    For the door guardian it seems you were confused, shock is like shock from blunt trauma, electric shock is a separate rebuff to shock, shock decreases stamina regain, electric shock drains fable charge

    with the door guardian, the shock is because it’s a huge enemy, works same with puppet of the future, this shock is different to electric shock, and the run back can be made easier if you take out the cannons by hitting them enough

    this game was a 9.5 for me, i liked most of the bosses except for brotherhood (nobody likes gank bosses) and door guardian (I died more times to door guardian than most bosses in the game). laxasia, Romeo, Nameless puppet and Simon are all fun as hell to fight.
    6:25 hes not alone, I did the same thing until the boss nerf patch came out, the eldest brotherhood fight SUCKS

    24:20 For the Puppet King's spinning vacuum attack, you have to avoid it by getting close to him. It's actually one of the largest windows for you to deal damage.

    Laxasia's second phase was so outrageously anime and out of place I actually laughed out loud multiple times. Good fight though.
    Edit: didn't know you could reflect the lightning. amusing thinking I beat her without that...

    Black Rabbit Brothel is a good name, I'm personally also fond of calling them the Bandits of Bullshit. Also, you can actually drain the swamp for the Puppet of the Future fight and it pretty much removes the only danger that was there to begin with. That wasn't a boss fight, Pinocchio was putting it out of its misery

    While I won't claim it's the best iteration of the mechanic my favorite action RPG parries are from Ys 8 and Ys 9 because it gives you a brief second of invincibility to wail into the boss with some comedically powerful attack. To be fair though those games also don't have runback which is nice

      I'm closing in on the endgame of my first playthrough of Ys 8, and I agree that Flash Guard and Flash Move are very satisfying to pull off. The Oath in Felghana is still my favorite entry in the franchise, hands-down, followed by Origin, but Lacrimosa of Dana will definitely take a respectable third place for me when I finish.
      My personal ranking of the Ys games I've played:
      1. Ys: The Oath in Felghana (2005)
      2. Ys Origin (2006)
      3. Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana (2016) -> Again, haven't beaten it yet, but I'm pretty sure it will land here.
      4. Ys Seven (2009)
      5. Ys II (1988)
      6. Ys: Memories of Celceta (2012)
      7. Ys VI: The Ark of Napishtim (2003)
      8. Ys I (1987)
      I haven't played IX yet, but I do own it and plan to get to it at some point.

      9 is probably the best gameplay wise but I don't think the story is quite as impactful. Though the game definitely takes a quality over quantity approach with the bosses even if it still has a respectably large roster of 22.@@rpgfan1187

      Ys 8 and 9 have a mechanic that I am unsure is intended, but if you flash guard after flas dodging, not only is time slowed, all of your moves are now crits.

      @@ES21007 Yeah, flash guard and dodge have become very OP moves. The party-based games were already significantly easier than the Napishtim Engine and Bump Combat games, but adding in these moves turn them into complete cake-walks (on Normal Difficulty, at least).

      @@TitaRussellTrails In terms of story, Seven actually has my favorite, with VIII being second. Obviously, the Ys games aren't as great in the story department as Trails (not many games are), but some of them have standout stories. I actually do prefer the quality over quantity approach to boss rosters. Oath in Felghana only has 15 bosses, but it's easily my favorite roster from the franchise because of their overall high quality (despite the presence of a few lousy ones).

    I find your comedy pretty hilarious but I feel like you missed the mark ENTIRELY for how good this game is. A part of me just wants to say that this is not Bloodborne or Sekiro, and it takes knowledge of both to play it properly. Stop playing it like a Dark Souls game and learn how to play with its mechanics and different play styles and strategies. The game gives us WAY too much freedom to complain.

    The point isn’t to become a parry or dodge master like sekiro and blood borne to to extent you could use one method for the entire game, you’re supposed to interchange the methods based on boss/moves against you

    I think most of these people miss judge ranking is not how good the bosses are but how hard the bosses are which is incorrect way of ranking . This make player impression toward bad boss = hard boss= good boss, while the good boss = bad boss by their perspective. The ranking of your while overall is good, there is many bosses that are misunderstood
    1 ) Rabbit brothers fight is good. Because unlike most of trash large boss, you can see all of their attacks. The hitboxes are not janky and they fight you 1 by 1. This is important, as they allow you to have time off to fight each member, so don't go to attack the other target, stick to one target who is attacking you
    2) Stalker boss - most of the them are just easy, and have back stab thing.. which make no sense in story related other than some give player choice which again has no impact on anything. If player want to fight them, fight them
    3) Green swamp monster and Simon boss- AWFUL, AWFUL BOSSES. Most of player agree on Simon being a terrible boss.
    They have bad hit boxes, attack wind up and fast acceleration. You can't see their attacks, their body cover entire fking screen.
    Overall best bosses entire game. Laxasia , Puppet king and Nameless puppet.

    I feel like people will just complain that hitboxes are bad for any game that comes out nowadays. I platinumed the game and never had an issue a single time on any enemy hitboxes. Also dodge is not useless in this game it is incredibly important to combat in general what a weird criticism.

    It's finally nice to hear someone take lies of p down a few pegs. I enjoyed it but hearing it talked about as if it is on par or better than ds3, bloodborne, elden ring makes me roll my eyes.

    The puppet king has two vacuum attacks. One where he draws in energy and blows up around him and the other where he twirls his arms and everything far away from him blows up.

    Door Guardian was just a meh boss that after dying once i figured out the gimmick and defeated immediately. Dont really see whats so terrible about him besides being a rather uninspired fight
    For the mad clown, just run past him to the stargazer, then return to him. This way you dont have to deal with all the enemies

    Wait wait, you do realize that you can just run past the clown, activate the stargazer behind him, then lure him up to the front of the opera house and fight him there right?
    You can also drain the poison out of the puppet of the future arena.

    Great video, Alex! It seems like a lot of Souls-likes put too much emphasis on making difficult bosses without making sure that they're properly balanced. That's why so few of them manage to capture the same magic as FromSoft's titles. I also think the Souls-likes that do stand out are the ones that add their own unique twists to the formula, rather than just trying to emulate their inspirations. Still good to see that there were some salvageable bosses in this game, though.
    Anyway, I'm enjoying your content as always and look forward to your future uploads!

    There is a stargazer directly next to the mad clown puppet lmao.
    Also might be helpful to use the million ampoules you got for the door guardian to stop shock from ever occuring.

    Why didn’t you clear the 2 big scorpion enemies using the turrets and then destroying the turrets afterward? After doing this, you can just run up to the boss with only one of those weak double fist slam enemies and a single dog.

    i feel like this game you either really like it, like i do, think it’s alright, or think it’s utter garbage, i did feel like it was a little too difficult at one point (manus second phase) but other than that i think it compares with the other actual fromsoft soulsborne games and the problems for most of your boss rankings, is that a few of them could easily be fixed with prior knowledge, but i can’t blame for not having that, i didnt for a bit either

    The big vacuum AOE in the King of Puppets can be avoided if you stand close to the boss. When he winds up the attack don’t run away, run toward him

    U can get rid of the acid stuff by hitting the lever in the tunnel to the left of the masked guy and girl a furnace dude will bust out and chase u but the lever gets it to where u just sit under him and take no damage

    Ngl when I first fought the door guardian, I thought I was being punked with how little damage I was doing. I was like, there's NO way I'm under leveled for this fight 😂. Then I realized what I was supposed to do but jfc that shock build up was awful for my stamina. Especially as a strength build going for heavy attacks 💀

    I don't understand either of the guys talking in this video . Perry in this game is so fun and awesome in my opinion. Blocking and Perry are both fine. U just need to get better, learn the game and the enemies movements , move sets and attack patterns . This game the combat is amazing in my opinion. I know so many people that love this game, I really feel bad that there was some that didn't stick to this game. This game for me was just perfect .

    Lies of p is my game of the year so far! It's outstanding. This game really was hard for u I take it. I love most of the bosses. Once u get better at the game , the bosses become so much fun in my opinion.

    i dunno i i finished both brotherhood fights in 5 tries, and the clown i literally just ran ahead to the opera house and fought him there, door guardian was not at all challenging once i learned what to do, and the run back isn't bad if you kill the lizards cause they don't respawn, and if you actually activate the stargazer in front of the temple. seems to be a entire case by case with the bosses

    Black Rabbit Brotherhood becomes laughably easy if you just spam Thermite at the Eldest. If you get the merchant before the boss he'll sell it to you and that boss becomes a cakewalk.

    I didn't have the same issues with the Mad Clown that you had, but I'm also a weirdo who's running a throwable and consumable build on my first playthrough, and I got used to the weird block timings pretty quickly thanks to farming that one big zombie in the lobster house to support my grenade habit.
