Great video, Alex! Hollow Knight is a gaming masterpiece and my third favorite of the 8th generation behind Bloodborne and Persona 5 Royal. I just beat and recorded Persona 5 Royal yesterday as a matter of fact, it’s my third favorite game of all time! Palace and Boss ranking both are in the works right now for down the road! -Alex
@@Cytonox Awesome, Alex! That game is such a mind-blowing masterpiece! I'd previously played the vanilla version of Persona 5 but didn't play Royal into quite recently (actually just finished it in early January). I didn't think any game could manage to unseat Chrono Trigger as my favorite JRPG, but P5R did it! What's funny is that it's my third favorite game of all time, too! My favorite is Deus Ex, while Baldur's Gate II: Shadows of Amn is second for me.
@@rpgfan1187 I really ought to try Deus Ex, a lot of my friends have told me I'd love it. I know the basics of the story and I've seen the main character but know little else
@@Cytonox The original Deus Ex from 2000 was one of the quintessential immersive sims, alongside System Shock 1 & 2, Ultima Underworld, and the original Thief games. It's a Cyberpunk game where you play as a nano-augmented agent for the UN in a world dominated by the Illuminati. The reason it stands out so much for me -- and a lot of other gamers, as well -- is the staggering amount of freedom it offers to the player. There are a plethora of ways to approach each mission, whether you want to stealthily ghost your way through, go in guns blazing, hack into computer terminals to turn turrets against guards, etc. Even something as simple as getting past a locked door has plenty of options. You could find the key for it, use lock-picks, hack into security systems to open the door, just blow it open with an explosive, or use another route entirely (such as an air-vent). There are even methods that the developers didn't intend. For instance, there are some bionic enemies who self-destruct upon death, and gamers discovered that if you killed them near a door, their self-destructing explosion would destroy the door. Deus Ex definitely shows its age graphically, the voice acting is so bad that it's epically meme-worthy, and the shooting mechanics and general gameplay can feel rather clunky by today's standards, but it produced a very revolutionary game design formula that has rarely been seen since. Also, it's one of those games I just have so much fun playing and offers tons of replay value. I haven't played any of the newer ones -- i.e. Human Revolution and Mankind Divided (both of which are actually prequels to the original) -- but I hear good things about them, too, even though they're generally not considered as great as the original. Of the more modern games I've played, I'd say that Dishonored 1 & 2 come the closest to replicating Deus Ex's sense of freedom and sprawling sandbox level designs.
Back almost 2 years later now that I've actually beaten this game and have done everything other than Pantheon 5. I loved this game, already one of my favorites of all time though I wouldn't really say it's perfect. Still, the striking art style, smooth as butter gameplay, great music and especially great bosses, it's basically the complete package for me. I've now joined the Silksong hype train that has been inactive for years now. I guess the good thing is I didn't have to wait as long lol. I won't be ranking AbsRad or Sisters of Battle since I haven't done them yet, but they don't seem that different from their normal fights anyway, like a lot of the reprise bosses here. I also won't be ranking Winged Nosk, and I'll count the Hollow Knight and Pure Vessel as the same fight. Same with both Hornet fights. 34) Markoth (annoying at best, and I'm sure it will be a nightmare on radiant. Spikes can just hit you from off screen and the Pantheon 5 version removes the floor because fuck you. I hope the Kickstarter donor who designed this boss sleeps with both sides of their pillow hot every night) 33) Marmu (this isn't quite as bad but it's still pretty bad. I fought her pretty early in the game and it was practically impossible. Come back way later and she's a total joke. Even still, the inconsistent physics of the fight is what makes this so bad) 32) Flukemarm (fought this guy late and it was like nothing even happened) 31) Uumuu (also kind of a nothing boss. You just wait for an opening and attack. The Pantheon version is pretty annoying since the platforms could get in the way sometimes) 30) Massive Moss Charger (Steady Body makes this fight hilarious) 29) Vengefly King (I hate some of the flying enemies in this game because they're so fast and can just get out of your reach hella quick. Same story here) 28) Gruz Mother (I like the enclosed arena, that's pretty much. Bro only has 2 attacks) 27) Oblobbles (one dies and the other goes apeshit. At least this fight is a bit dynamic) 26) Brooding Mawlek (at least this one requries a bit of thought. Shade Cloak trivializes though) 25) Xero (here starts the chain of unmemorable warrior dream bosses that serve no other purpose than to be filler. Not a single one of these fights are remotely interesting and painfully repetitive. Xero is just a tolerable Markoth) 24) No Eyes (it's kind of annoying climbing around to reach the boss trying to avoid her projectiles only for her to teleport away when you get in arm's reach of her. But she's not that tanky so it kinda offsets the issue a bit) 23) Gorb (I kinda just like the sword attack which they also use for the Radiance) 22) Elder Hu (I also like how the attacks look even if there are only 2 of them and they're piss easy to dodge. At least it's not aggravating) 21) Nosk (I really like the atmosphere of the fight but it doesn't really have much else going for it. Like you said the AI is dumb as rocks and you can even Abyss Shriek it while it's in the ceiling to speed up the fight even more) 20) Soul Warrior (I know the guy becomes an uncommon enemy later on but at least he's sorta fun and isn't obnoxious) 19) Enraged Guardian (easy as these fights are they are still enjoyable in the sense that it's fun to bully them and nothing else really) 18) The Collector (I hate ads in the boss fights but the ads are basically nonexistent if you fight him later in the game. At that point though, the fight is just kinda whatever, but I do like the idea behind it) 17) God Tamer (this is an odd pair. They only have like 2 attacks each but only the big guy is aggressive. The small guy just kinda sits around and dies if the big guy dies too. Still, not bad, and an alright gank that could have been way worse) 16) Traitor Lord (aside from Cloth helping you out, it's basically just an oversized version of the traitor mantises throughout the game with double damage. It's a good thing they're kind of enjoyable) 15) Brothers Oro and Mato (this is a weird gank fight. There are times where one of the dudes is just standing there letting you hit him. It doesn't feel super dynamic but they are kinda tanky so you still gotta be careful. It's an alright fight that could have been way more interesting) 14) Watcher Knights (the previous criticism doesn't really apply here, but I do wish the knights were a bit different. They just keep reviving knights with the same moveset and it feels like the fight is just dragging out for no good reason. I'm also pretty bad at this fight but at least it's not a reskin or piss easy nonsense) 13) Hive Knight (he's kinda fun. The teleporting keeps you on your toes and you can't get too greedy with hits as he attacks pretty quickly) 12) Lost Kin (I don't like how often the ads spawn in, and how they could just spawn on top of you too. Still, the fight is pretty engaging, and it was especially difficult for me because I fought him right after Broken Vessel and didn't leave until I beat him despite being underleveled and underprepared. It's a thrilling time no doubt) 11) White Defender (the noises he makes during the fight are really funny. And it's a decent challenge too despite the moveset not being that huge. The second version also has no stagger so it's more intense) 10) Failed Champion (I like the second version way more than the first, although the False Knight was still a decent first boss. This fight is way more intense and ass clenching which I enjoy) 9) Soul Tyrant (a bit repetitive but still very engaging especially this second version. 8) Hornet (second Hornet fight is not that much different than the first imo. Hornet is pretty fun to fight against, and while the jumping and stopping at any point to lunge at you can be sometimes annoying, it was never bullshit. Every time I go back to this I enjoy it) 7) Mantis Lords (very easy but also very fun, and I know I'd say the same about the Sisters of Battle. I kinda wished the fight was more dynamic though, like depending on how many mantises are left they change their moveset. But still, this was a fun early game highlight and will definitely be an endgame highlight when I get to it) 6) Grey Prince Zote (I'm pretty bad at this fight but I can't say that it's badly designed. I almost wished I didn't save his bum ass so that he didn't show up at Godhome but whatever. It's pretty comical but still very intense, and a great NPC at that) 5) Great Nailsage Sly (pretty challenging but still pretty fun, I especially like pogoing off of him when he does the helicopter attack) 4) The Radiance (epic final boss that's pretty much everything you want out of a game's finale. Tough, climactic, and that feeling of finality. I can't wait to challenge to AbsRad) 3) Paintmaster Sheo (I love the tells that this boss has. The top 3 stand out to me as being amazingly designed fights) 2) Nightmare King Grimm (so incredibly fun yet challenging. Visually striking and the music is amazing, but tbh I like Troupe Master's theme more than Nightmare King's theme. I wish they were switched) 1) Pure Vessel (extremely well designed, extremely challenging but rewarding when you figure it out. The magic, the combos, the visuals, the story impact, it's all there. One of my new all time favorite bosses and the definitely the one I'm going to use to represent this game)
I haven't beaten every boss, but I've done almost all of them, sooo I'll just do top 6, I guess: 1: Nightmare King Grimm/Troupe Master Grimm Both NKG and regular Grimm are really, really fun, despite how stressed they sometimes make me. I've Radianted both of them, and the only reason why is because they don't make me incredibly mad when I die, so I didn't lose my patience before beating them. 2: Mantis Lords (Haven't beaten p3 yet, so no Sisters of Battle) Can be slightly difficult no matter what point of the game you're at (I fought them first-time after getting Monarch Wings and the 3rd nail). My friend had a hard time with them, and I only died once, so they've become an inside joke between us, which makes them better tbh. 3: Radiance and Hollow Knight (Again, no p5) I can't decide between these two, I just love them so much. Both are really climactic, and honestly both kinda made me cry a bit. Watching THK stab itself is so hard to watch whether you know the lore or not, and seeing the Siblings rise from the Abyss to support you against the Radiance set off an unreasonable amount of happiness and determination in me. 4: Broken Vessel/Lost Kin Beating both are depressing as hell. Seeing BV reach out to you after you kill it actually made me so incredibly upset I couldn't think of anything else during LK's fight, which admittedly caused my death a few times- 5: Hive Knight I'm sorry, he's just fun as hell. I honestly don't know why I love him so much, but I do- 6: Hornet (both of them) While I hated Hornet 2 for a bit because she was too hard for me for a few days, I've learnt to adore the fight. Hornet 1 is a solid fight, even in Godhome once you've got everything. She was actually the first boss in the Hall of Gods I bothered to Radiant, which led to a chain of me Radianting False Knight, Mantis Lords, both Crystal and Enraged Gaurdians, Broken Vessel, both Grimms, Soul Master, and Hive Knight. The bosses I haven't fought/beaten yet are: Sisters of Battle Winged Nosk Nailsage Sly Absolute Radiance Pure Vessel Grey Prince Zote (left him to die in Greenpath) Edit: Fixed some grammar/spelling mistakes
I can’t fault you for not having done all the pantheons, those things are pretty brutal from 3 onwards. the pantheon of hallownest took me like an entire month of trying back when it first came out and it was still pretty rough when I replayed it for this video
By the way, since you love Hollow Knight and the Metroid series, I highly recommend trying out Castlevania: Symphony of the Night at some point. Together with Super Metroid, SotN was one of the founding giants of the Metroidvania genre, and it's my second favorite 2D Metroidvania behind Hollow Knight. While the earlier stage-based Castlevanias are great games in their own right (especially some of the 16-bit era games), Symphony of the Night evolved the franchise into a grand, nonlinear experience that would influence the subsequent titles on the GBA and DS. You get to explore the distinct areas of the castle -- from a library and a chapel to an underground cavern and clock tower -- with a vast compendium of enemies to encounter (most of which are drawn straight from mythologies and folklore from around the globe). Similar to the Metroid games, you gain abilities along the way to help you reach previously inaccessible areas, but this game adds Action-RPG elements, such as a leveling system and equippable weapons, armor, and accessories. There are also plenty of fun boss fights scattered throughout, although some of the worst are absolute jokes that rival Pinwheel in that regard. Lol. Symphony is admittedly one of the easier games in the Metroidvania genre (similar to the first Metroid Prime in terms of difficulty), but it's still a high quality game, over all. Also, I'd be remiss not to mention Michiru Yamane's incredible soundtrack, which remains one of the best video game OST's to this day. Surprisingly versatile, the soundtrack spans many genres -- from metal to cool jazz to Baroque to Classical to New Age -- all the while managing to fit the areas of the game, perfectly, and the sound quality is above and beyond what you'd expect from the PS1 era. If you're interested in playing Symphony of the Night, you can get it on PS4 as part of the collection, Castlevania Requiem, alongside one of the earlier stage-based games, Rondo of Blood (which is another excellent though significantly tougher title). I just checked, and Castlevania Requiem is actually on sale right now for $5 on the Playstation Store, so it's pretty cheap. It's a game I can't recommend highly enough for fans of Hollow Knight and Metroid, and I think it would be right up your alley. Anyway, excellent work as always, Alex! Also, congrats on getting into your preferred college! That's great news! I look forward to yours and Jack's future content!

I freaking love Hollow Knight and I am still pretty shocked that I was able to beat Pantheon 5, truly, one of the hardest things I have ever done in a video game. I am saddened that you put Sisters of Battle so low (I know, still in the top ten but c'mon! 7th?), I adore that fight, it's a super well done multi-fight, which is pretty uncommon, and there's just such a wonderful rhythm to the battle, it's some of the most fun I had in Hollow Knight! Easily my favorite boss! (Not counting Gorb, of course, seriously, why was Gorb not in your top five?)
Sisters of Battle are super fun, just a bit easy once you get it down is why I had them at 7. Was definitely super hyped when I knew they decided to add a 3 mantis version though since I'd been hoping for one before Godhome came out
I find myself in the early stages of Hollow Knight. Videos as good as these just get me more and more hyped, as well as nudge me forward to completing the game. So keep up the great content, and not only because I find it useful.
6 months late, but part of the Traitor lord hatred comes from 2 things, 1. originally they only had the moves of the traitor mantis and only did 1 mask of damage, so they was fairly weak for the time you ecounter them in 2. the path you take to get to them is overly long...
Ok I love hollow knight don’t get me wrong because it’s hollow knight what’s not to love except I feel like that there is a lot of annoying enemy’s can’t be the only one who hates double elder ghus

2) Nightmare King Grimm (so incredibly fun yet challenging. Visually striking and the music is amazing, but tbh I like Troupe Master's theme more than Nightmare King's theme. I wish they were switched)
1) Pure Vessel (extremely well designed, extremely challenging but rewarding when you figure it out. The magic, the combos, the visuals, the story impact, it's all there. One of my new all time favorite bosses and the definitely the one I'm going to use to represent this game)
I haven't beaten every boss, but I've done almost all of them, sooo I'll just do top 6, I guess:
1: Nightmare King Grimm/Troupe Master Grimm
Both NKG and regular Grimm are really, really fun, despite how stressed they sometimes make me. I've Radianted both of them, and the only reason why is because they don't make me incredibly mad when I die, so I didn't lose my patience before beating them.
2: Mantis Lords (Haven't beaten p3 yet, so no Sisters of Battle)
Can be slightly difficult no matter what point of the game you're at (I fought them first-time after getting Monarch Wings and the 3rd nail). My friend had a hard time with them, and I only died once, so they've become an inside joke between us, which makes them better tbh.
3: Radiance and Hollow Knight (Again, no p5)
I can't decide between these two, I just love them so much. Both are really climactic, and honestly both kinda made me cry a bit. Watching THK stab itself is so hard to watch whether you know the lore or not, and seeing the Siblings rise from the Abyss to support you against the Radiance set off an unreasonable amount of happiness and determination in me.
4: Broken Vessel/Lost Kin
Beating both are depressing as hell. Seeing BV reach out to you after you kill it actually made me so incredibly upset I couldn't think of anything else during LK's fight, which admittedly caused my death a few times-
5: Hive Knight
I'm sorry, he's just fun as hell. I honestly don't know why I love him so much, but I do-
6: Hornet (both of them)
While I hated Hornet 2 for a bit because she was too hard for me for a few days, I've learnt to adore the fight.
The bosses I haven't fought/beaten yet are:
Sisters of Battle
Winged Nosk
Nailsage Sly
Absolute Radiance
Pure Vessel
Grey Prince Zote (left him to die in Greenpath)
Edit: Fixed some grammar/spelling mistakes

Thanks for the recommendation, just bought it! Will take a stab at it soon!
@@Cytonox Awesome! It's a classic and one of the definitive PS1 games! Enjoy!
Best game ever, man, the Silksong wait is agonizing. Here's my top ten:
1. Gorb, Gorb is life, Gorb is love, Gorb is all
2. Sisters of Battle/ Mantis Lords
3. Grimm/ Nightmare King Grimm
4. Pure Vessel/ Hollow Knight
5. Radiance/ Absolute Radiance
6. Hornet Protector/ Hornet Sentinel
7. Paintmaster
8. Dung Defender
9. Broken Vessel/ Lost Kin
10. Soul Master/ Soul Tyrant
Great video!
Was definitely super hyped when I knew they decided to add a 3 mantis version though since I'd been hoping for one before Godhome came out
I just remembered I gotta make a boss ranking vid on this now
I find myself in the early stages of Hollow Knight. Videos as good as these just get me more and more hyped, as well as nudge me forward to completing the game. So keep up the great content, and not only because I find it useful.
Glad ya liked it! There’s definitely a lot to look forwards to, enjoy!
Good vid! and new sub :)
6 months late, but part of the Traitor lord hatred comes from 2 things, 1. originally they only had the moves of the traitor mantis and only did 1 mask of damage, so they was fairly weak for the time you ecounter them in 2. the path you take to get to them is overly long...
Yeah I didn’t think about the pre godhome variant, that’d explain a lot I suppose. Good reminder
i love hallow knight and agree with you so much.
To explain the Warrior Dreams, they're in the game due to rewards for Kickstarter backers I believe I've heard
Ok I love hollow knight don’t get me wrong because it’s hollow knight what’s not to love except I feel like that there is a lot of annoying enemy’s can’t be the only one who hates double elder ghus
Favorite boss was probably the hollow knight good list
100 soul twisters the best enemy in gaming not only are they the most unpredictable/balls inducing enemy in the game but if you fight them with 5 hearts it makes you suicidal at best
Fun fact about God Tamer: If you kill the beast first then the tamer will just give up and not attack you anymore
Y'all just can't miss once huh
Also congrats Alex on getting accepted into your dream college! 🎉🤙
Thanks man! Majoring in communications, hopefully I can apply some knowledge from that field to youtube in some way
@@Cytonox that's awesome, congrats again! I'm graduating college in May, didn't realize you guys were that young (unless you're transferring from somewhere) but I can't wait to see how this evolves everything you do
@@aarontruong354 jack here on my personal, yeah we’re in high school
You can instantly defeat the God Tamer if you beat the beast first
The WORST part of markoth?
Not having a floor
No eyes is a girl
smash
Will you do a Elden ring ranking
That’s our next video! It’s a long hard game so we haven’t beat it yet, but I (Alex) am pretty close (Currently getting beaten up by Miquella lol). We’re trying to get it out ASAP but it’s gonna be a 4 part video due to the sheer volume of bosses in this game. Stay tuned!
I haven’t played it but I have watched demodcracy’s video on it and apparently there are only 33 bosses but like 45 mini bosses
@@Cytonox you should rank the half life 2 bosses
@@Immort4l5 What enemies actually count as bosses in Half-Life 2? Would it be the the Combine Ships in Water Hazard and Highway 17, the Antlion Kings in Sandtrap and Nova Prospekt, and the Striders in Follow Freeman?
@@rpgfan1187 yeah I guess
Havnt watched yet but I know that nosk has got to be low tier
