It was possibly the _Better ‘Homes and Gardens_ cookbook. Their recipe calls for separating the eggs and whipping the egg whites. The best homemade waffle recipe I’ve found is called the "Waffles of Insane Greatness." I found it on a food blog I used to read, but the original can be found with an Internet search. They taste just like the waffles you get in restaurants and they are insanely fast & easy. The batter comes together in 10 minutes tops and then requires a 30 minute rest once it’s made. The secret to its celestial lightness is… cornstarch. Here’s the recipe from the blog with a few of my own notes set off by asterisks and parentheses. My waffle maker has a heat dial that runs from 1 to 7, and I turned it to 5. Oil the waffle maker. (Original text said oiling wouldn’t be necessary, but that’s so not my experience.), Pour an appropriate amount of batter into your hot waffle maker. In America the term Belgian waffle refers to the shape: thick, round, and with deep pockets. This is in contrast to the more traditional shape of thinner and square. Leige Waffles are referred to by name.
There's actually an additional style of Belgian waffles called the "Brussels-style waffle", which is square, has a light and airy batter, and is often served with powdered sugar. Belgian people know their waffles 🧇 😉

Made the mochi waffles with Bananas Foster tonight. Instead of whipping the cream, I added a little sugar and vanilla and drizzled it over. As a New Orleanian I have eaten a lot of bananas foster. This was a good simple recipe and I wound up with some toffee in the pan, because I cooked it too fast, but there was a generous amount of sauce so it worked out. So the recipe made 2 Belgian waffles, they turned out *amazing*. I put 1/2 waffle and 1/3 of the sauce on each of 3 plates and we gobbled it right up. Solid dish, will definitely make again. 11/10. We licked the plates.
I did it. It is very delicious, crispy, lightly sweet, greasy, fragrant. You are a talented chef! I absolutely love your recipes and follow them whenever needed. Thank you, talented chef with a sense of humour. I am Vietnamese.
I haven't made waffles since the 90s -- seriously. My mom bought a cheap waffle iron, and I wanted to make some. The instructions with the pancake mix (yup) resulted in a batter thicker than pancake batter, but definitely not as thick as that waffle dough! The purchase of the cheapest waffle iron my mom could find was inspired by the continental breakfast at a hotel on a recent vacation. There was a flipping Belgian waffle maker in the mix of it, and again, the batter in the cups was not as thick as what I see in this video. I've been wanting a (decent quality) waffle maker, and this episode just makes me want one more. So thanks for that, dude. You're convincing me to spend even more money.
As a newfound waffle fanatic that has been going through boxes of mix like crazy - you are truly appreciated Mr. Josh. Can't wait for the cookbook to ship 💪

This would make a good new playlist, where Josh takes various versions of something and compares them. What I got from this is that both Belgium and Mochi have their merits, but those are the top 2 options that shine above all the rest depending on what you currently feel like. Next up do Fried Chicken, there are SO MANY kinds and I usually stick to Korean and Thai styles (depending on what sides I want with them).
I always get my Belgian waffle dough together the day before so it's risen and ready in the morning when everyone gets up. Nothing better then the crunchy little sugar pearls 😍
I must say, from a somewhat jaded 70 yr old man. I find you actually entertaining. Most trying usually are irritating. I think I will subscribe. Keep on keeping on and thanks.
Love this review! Actually going to try mochi waffles tomorrow but personally I’m a Belgian Liege waffles kind of guy. Always love those crisp crust covered with crisp caramelized pearl sugar then chewy insides with crystalized sugar bits in every bite. I mean, it’s texture heaven. And the salty and yeasty bread just compliments everything. Also you don’t need toppings or syrup to enjoy it. 😍
I kind of want to see him make scandinavian waffles, since they are totally different from all the ones he has shown. They are like the crepes of the waffle world. Thin and usually made with cardamom these waffles usualle have individually heart shaped pieces within the whole waffle
Yeah, Swedish friend was telling me about these. There are only two waffle irons on Amazon that produce such thin waffles, but the pictures show that neither of them heat very evenly. I wonder what the Swedes use?
@@absolutelynothingtoseehere Even as a dane it can honestly be struggle getting a waffle iron that heats evenly but it's not meant to be perfect. Hi Josh,I am from Trinidad in the West Indies. I absolutely love your Channel. I Love how you make it fun to cook and with those little funny clips. Keep up the good work you are doing. You Sir are truly blessed.
Favorite topping for waffles are sour cream and raspberry jam. An amazing combination of tangyness, a lil bit and sour and just enough sweetness. Plus point if the waffle is a bit crispy, and a lil salty form the butter
Question Time: with the Belgian waffle can I pre-make the “dough” the night before and then pop it in the fridge overnight and cook it for breakfast the next morning? I don’t think I can wake up early enough to sneak in an hour of dough rising to surprise my partner with waffles 😭😂
Hmmm....despite what the first reply said (it's not a bad idea), for me if i leave a dough to sit overnight, the result just ends up tasting like fermentation and yeast... which imo is not a very good flavor for dough, especially for waffles. If you don't want it to taste like all your hard work has gone to waste and you don't want to start over, don't let it sit for no more than 2 hours.
My fav type of waffle is the norwegian one, quickish to make, though not thick and fluffy, theyre thin waffles, it is soft and really tasty, u can use it similar to a crepe or english pancake where you put things like jam, cream or other topping on, or wrapped in them! My mum says in norway you would invite people round for waffles like you would invite people in for a cup of tea
Loving the Jason Statham style British Accent you keep subtly sprinkling in as someone born and raised in England I can honestly say you are doing it Justice, good work!
So when is josh gonna get a food network show this guy and his team are brilliant and have really really brought me back into the food world and i love it more than ever before cannot wait for the book to arrive!!
Yo, I am Belgian, from Liège where those DELICIOUS waffles are made. If you travel here someday and want to taste the waffle greatness by yourself, I recommend Paulux at place cathédrale. Reasonnably cheap (3€ ish) + you can get chocolate sticks stuffed in it for an extra melt delicacy... It's smaller than those in the video though, still amazing
Here in germany we take a glas of cherries with juice, thicken it with some cornstarch, put it on the waffle and put some heavy cream on it.So try it.Delicious.
Am I the only one who measured 3/4 of granulated sugar out for the mochi waffles only for that to be more than double the sugar that Joshua actually used (I’m sure he actually measured out 70g which is less than half of 3/4 cup). They were still delicious, but overly sweet for sure.
They look so amazing real class there but you should try the waffles we have in Sweden, they are wider and thinner. Waffle with whipped cream and cloudberry jam or with icecream and berries😋
I think the norwegian and swedish waffles are the same/similar except maybe some differences in toppings! These kinds of waffles are my favourite and really versatile!
Holy cow bro, I decided to make just the normal ass waffles bc I had all the ingredients (except buttermilk, used whole milk) and these are phenomenal!! The batter is so thick and fluffy, and the waffles are so rich. Hands down the best waffle I’ve ever eaten in my life! 👌🏻
Okay yeah maybe these are good but the best waffles are the Belgian ones you get in british high schools. The sugar crystals… the feeling of achievement when you get to the canteen in time to actually have one… pure perfection. The only good thing to come out of british high schools. Fight me.
I made the Mochi waffles and they are surprisingly good! I made some chocolate cream cheese as filling, but frankly the waffle is good enough on it's own. To my fellow Filipinos, they taste like crispy tikoy that's chewy on the inside. I made about 13 mini waffles with the recipe. I stored them in the fridge and they lose the crispiness and becomes extra chewy, but still good. You can re-heat them again and it's good as new, though I have to admit, freshly made is still the best.

As a person from Liège, I’m so proud of your pronunciation of my city, it was flawless
I always wondered why I still don't have a waffle cooker. Thanks to this video, my order has now been placed and should arrive shortly.
You're convincing me to spend even more money.
i tried the recipe!!! god i’m genuinely impressed thank you so much for the first waffle recipe .
m excited to try the next ones . love from morcco ❤️
As a newfound waffle fanatic that has been going through boxes of mix like crazy - you are truly appreciated Mr. Josh. Can't wait for the cookbook to ship 💪
Me watching the bananas foster: hey that doesn't seem too hard, I think I may try that
*lights the pan on fire*
Nevermind
I dont get what is the problem with lighting alc
Lol I would instantly panic
I call them Ba NOM NOMs
It'd probably be almost as delicious if you didn't light the friggen thing on fire tbh
@Homie I- hey bud I reported that video since you keep spamming it. I also got three other people I know to do a report raid for spam. Stop spamming links in random comments.
50 percent of me keeps coming for the recipes and entertainment the other 50 percent is for harmonious singing segments. Papa has the voice of an angel.
As a Belgian, this warms the heart
That shit gets me everytime😂😂😂😂😂😂
This would make a good new playlist, where Josh takes various versions of something and compares them. What I got from this is that both Belgium and Mochi have their merits, but those are the top 2 options that shine above all the rest depending on what you currently feel like. Next up do Fried Chicken, there are SO MANY kinds and I usually stick to Korean and Thai styles (depending on what sides I want with them).
I love your tshirt! Proud to be a PETRONAS staff right here. And those waffles??? Out of this world!
Just wanna assure you that I will be buying your book once it comes out.
"I'm makin waffles!" -Donkey
How were they. I did them and they were so lackluster
As a beglian I can confirm: nicely done Joshua :)
I like the pearl sugar in my liege waffles to be the larger kind. Still looks great tho. Also, kudos for the Avatar the Last Airbender reference.
I agree! He used the Swedish pearl sugar instead of the Belgian. The Belgian is the larger kind.
How have I never heard of pearl sugar?
Please do a full video in southern accent 🙏 😭

I tried so many American waffles and this one by faaaaar is the best!
I kind of want to see him make scandinavian waffles, since they are totally different from all the ones he has shown. They are like the crepes of the waffle world. Thin and usually made with cardamom these waffles usualle have individually heart shaped pieces within the whole waffle
I got a box of foreign treats and it had some premade versions of those they were aight, prolly better fresh
@@michaelscalese3142 Yeah they are so much better fresh and warm with some powdered sugar, jam or chocolate sirup 😋
You should probably search with danish or sweedish words to see the right ones. Waffle iron is called Vaffeljern in danish and that should get you some more results
You mean wafers?
Hey Josh where are the metric amounts? Giving both imperial and metric is what makes you rise above the rest! Cheers from a confused Canadian who lives in constant tension between the two!
He has enough subscribers to not care anymote
The recipe was in the description and has metric units. www.joshuaweissman.com/post/perfect-homemade-waffles
I just realised Dorayaki is technically a Japanese waffle, Josh should definitely try to make it.
Imo it's more of a Japanese pancake, pancake sandwich to be exact lol
i think that taiyaki would be closer to wafles
@@arbood26 You are not wrong. So, is the okonomiyaki only a pancake? 🤔
Dorayaki is a pancake not a waffle.
@@AngelaMerici12 I think yes, you can say that it's some sort of savory japanese pancake.. I've heard it being called japanese pizza as well 😬😬
All your videos are amazing and your food looks delicious
Yes, I always make yeast dough the night before and put it in the fridge. The next morning get it out of the fridge and leave it for like 20 mins
Yeah thats fine, just dont let the "dough" rise before putting it in the fridge and dont use warm milk 😉
I even think you can freeze the dough at some point (but better to check that / test that with a small portion :))
Anything with yeast can get away with that
Hmmm....despite what the first reply said (it's not a bad idea), for me if i leave a dough to sit overnight, the result just ends up tasting like fermentation and yeast... which imo is not a very good flavor for dough, especially for waffles. If you don't want it to taste like all your hard work has gone to waste and you don't want to start over, don't let it sit for no more than 2 hours.
I want like a compilation of all the “whisky business” I think that would be amazing lol
I Love how you turn all foods from other Restaurants into a your Marvelous inventions.
Not once had I ever heard of a rice based waffle. And I’m happy it exists.
We're getting a book, but after this episode, I'm wanting a Christmas album
That would be awesome! 😂
This looks so good, wish I could reach in through my screen and take a piece!
I just made the fluffy mochi waffles...please don’t ever hesitate to make them!! They’re out of this world!
2 cups flour
3 tablespoons sugar
1 teaspoon salt
1 tablespoon baking powder
1/2 cup buttermilk
1 cup milk
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 eggs and 1 egg yolk
3/4 cup melted butter

My fav type of waffle is the norwegian one, quickish to make, though not thick and fluffy, theyre thin waffles, it is soft and really tasty, u can use it similar to a crepe or english pancake where you put things like jam, cream or other topping on, or wrapped in them!
My mum says in norway you would invite people round for waffles like you would invite people in for a cup of tea
papa never fails to make me smile
MOCHI vs BELGIAN, Round 1 FIGHT!

PAPPA and waffles, the combo we didn't know we deserve.

best combo ever!
Do you hear that? That's the sound of Belgians approaching in packs. I ran ahead to warn you all. RUN!
Can we just appreciate this mans ATLA reference? Ahh, the sweet sound of it. 🌊🌎🔥💨

I loved the cameo of the woman on the microwave. The recipes were really nice too.
It's smaller than those in the video though, still amazing

just curious, why have you bought the same book *5 times*
yeees i've been waiting for a waffle recipe
Oh my ! Those look delicious and the humor is top notch. Subscribed !
"i'm not a huge fan of blueberries"

You are so entertaining ……I like your foodie videos Josh. Thanks 🙏🏽

The amount of times Vicram has said "Best _____ I've ever had." 😂
I quite literally died when he said 'vafels' like a Belgian
When his book fell he could’ve said that his new book has just dropped.
love watching these, good to fall asleep to ngl
well all I need now is a waffle maker
It’s time for you to challenge Nandos Peri Peri in but better josh
Yesssss
Okay yeah maybe these are good but the best waffles are the Belgian ones you get in british high schools. The sugar crystals… the feeling of achievement when you get to the canteen in time to actually have one… pure perfection. The only good thing to come out of british high schools. Fight me.
The *crunch* of the sugar… unbeatable
Yes! That pearl sugar makes all the difference
This is the video I’ve been waiting for!
Y’all… I’m all about homemade and my sister just bought WAFFLE MIX.
Josh: Not a fan of blueberries
Me sat here eating blueberry candy kittens: -_-
I was surprised too because I love blueberries but we all have our opinions so we can’t hate.
