- The Distinguished Gentleman's Ride is once again upon us in 2014 to raise arms against and awareness of the dangers of prostate cancer.
It's possible that, amongst the dapper and showmanship of DGR, we can miss its true intentions. And as a survivor of male endemic cancer myself, I wanted to bring a story to light which shows what The Distinguished Gentleman's Ride is really about.
When Mark Hawwa, Captain of Distinguished Gentleman's Ride approached me with the idea of exploring this, I immediately said yes. He then put me in touch with Adam Kidson.
This is the story of Adam's experience with prostate cancer.

Ride Safe.
I think it goes to show that we don't always know what's around the corner and that something you've been thinking about doing, now is the time to do it. Whether it's buying a bike, riding a bike, or anything else in life - just go a do it! Thank you for sharing your story!
That's right, just do it.
Forget about getting a license.
Brilliant message, presented in a beautifully shot and edited piece of film, but the star of this is Adam, hands down. He speaks with conviction, passion and seems like a great bloke and that's what makes this the kind of video I would show to anyone out there who passes off prostate checks as a waste of time. Illness is not weakness, dealing with it like Adam is probably the most manly thing possible. Props to you Adam, hoping it all keeps going well and props to Stories of Bike for helping promote this (and not annihilating Adam's story with loud music or heavy handed editing).
One prostate cancer sufferer to another. Six years on from this video, I do hope you're okay brother. x
well done mate. I lost my Dad because of Prostate cancer 7 years ago, and since 40 I have been having annual PSA checks. Hardest thing in my life was losing my Dad and my chick not going to the funeral coz it was all too hard. We've split up now but she has my house but I still have my bike. Looks like there's a DGR in Adelaide. I'll be there!
Stay strong mate!
We are with you. May your father Rest in peace brother :)
RIDE SAFE. :)
"She have my house but I have my bike"
This just epic
Best of luck to you, friend, from the US.
Thanks man. My dad had prostate cancer & I just turned 40 & I have a physical exam in a month. I will diffidently bring it up with my doctor; thanks to you sir
What I love about your videos is that we see ,first humans then bikes, both beautiful, and great cinematic technique that pulls you right into the stories. Thank You!
Good for him, I lost my prostate last year, although mine was because of cancer in the bladder, a rare and aggressive sarcoma. They removed my bladder, prostate ( although mine was healthy) and like the man says a few other odds and ends you don't really need. Now I live with an illeal duct and urostomy bags, but I got riding again too after about 8 months. I never go far, as i have other health issues, but I'll riding again soon after a few more weeks off for a minor procedure connected to last years surgery. I could never be a DG, I think, always just a scruff bag, but yes cancer does change your life and yes hopefully I'm clear now, another 8 months and I can be reasonably sure. Anyway, this struck a chord with me, as you might expect.
What a brave soul. Best wishes to Adam Kidson, may he stay clear and riding!

Good for you, I’m doing the ride in West Sussex England for the first time this year in May 2024.
good on you,Mr!! I ride bike also and this among other factors has helped keep me alive ..after the suicide of my 15 yr old son..thank God for friends ,community ,dogs and sexy motorcycles..can it be a hard life?/yes but fight on!!
He's a lucky guy to get an aggressive PCA diagnosis by chance - operate - and get zero PSA readings after 6 months...more usually if they find an aggressive one by chance it has already spread to the bones and the outlook is not so rosy and much more complicated...Good one!
Excellent, that life is giving you some respite. So fingers crossed here and with god's will if you're ready to help yourself then when there's a will there's a way and destiny on your side. So yep I'm more than happy for you and indeed these blood tests from 40 on should be done at least twice a year for all men ....Stay strong. Emmanuel from France.
PSA tests can be a bit tricky for people who ride motorcycles a lot. From what I understand riding can lead to false or misleading PSA levels. Just a heads up.
Hello mate, hope you're doing good. I had my radical done a year ago by a robot, so it was less invasive than your surgery. Still hell of a thing to deal with mentally. Keep up with the zero's.
Clad to be of some support how little my contribution may have been.
