    I myself removed the alternator and the belt tensioner. Found after I did this the job of removing the steering pump was very easy. Had to get new connectors for heater hoses to block. Got the metal ones instead of cheap plastic. It may take an hour more to complete job but I did whole job in 6 to eight hours in my own garage. Was in no hurry.

    THANK YOU SO MUCH! Because you showed me how to do this with the right tool, I was able to fix the same thing on my 07 Monte Carlo.

    When working on my 3800 1998 the high pressure line into the steering rack was
    23/32 of an inch. Used Metrinch - 18mm & 23/32" Combination Wrench.
    Amazon has the pressure hoses for part source.

    Great tip! I never thought to use one of these to remove the power steering line nut. Thanks!

    This job is a real pita. I did it on a different car and spent all day. Didnt have the crows foot so had to do it 1mm at a time by flipping the wrench around.

    George I have a 02 Impala SS and replacing my high pressure line for the 2nd time, and let me tell you, it really is a pain in the ass. Especially trying to get the hose fitting off from the steering gear box. The crows foot is really the only way to go. But since I'm replacing the entire line I just cut the line as close to the fitting as possible to get it off the steering box and removing it with air ratchet. But unfortunately getting that fitting back on the steering box is going to require the crows foot. I hate the labor of this job because of limited space. Most irritating fix ever and one hell of a messy one too. Great video btw.

    thanks a lot we have a very similar issued only i have to replace my power steering return line on grand prix gt.i will cut the line pretty close to the nut for easy removal using 18mm socket but definitely will use cross foot for installation.once again thank you very much you are a big help.

      I broke off the hose just like you did on my 90 Olds 98 after the cooling line rusted out, I hope the socket with an extension will get the nut off the rack, but I will need to get this crows foot to put back on maybe. Doing it on the ground is NOT easy.

      High pressure line is different from the return line?

  • @widtrak77
    @widtrak77 5 лет назад +2

    Crowsfoot is the only option but you should use the flare nut style on flare nuts. The standard ones can round off a flare nut in a hurry and then you are screwed. No RTV on those fittings it will end up in your system and destroy it

    thanks George, I was having difficulty getting one of the lines off of a 3.8 Buick Lesabre, used a crows foot like you suggested. Question for you or for anyone else who took their lines off. I didn't use much force with the wrench before I could loosen with my hand. Did anyone else have this experience?

    If the line is bad and you're going to change it anyway, you can cut it and that will allow you to get a 6 point socket or a box end wrench on the fitting.

    I noticed your power steering pump is flush with the line. Mine isn't. (Mine is a cheap carquest.) Is that the reason for the leaking? Do I seriously have to take my carquest or whatever pump back and get an OEM.
    To clarify, just like on the rack and pinon, the high pressure line connecting to the pump is completely flush. At least from the angles in the video. No exposed threads. While mine? 3 threads are exposed on the line. And they are exposed with it being tight. Any tighter and I'd break the the connection.

    Greg Owens got 02 Monty,Everything good except when I put power steering fluid in reservoir it gushed out the exact place yours leaked from when I turn the steering weal.do you think I should replace the power steering pressure hose?

    • @MasterNeko
      @MasterNeko  7 лет назад +1

      If I were you I’d try to tighten the line again because the second time I replaced this I noticed that it just needed to be tightened but I had already got s warranty replacement so I did it anyway. If it leaks still after you tightened it and refilled it then I would replace it because it could have a simple hairline crack

    • @standinline4132
      @standinline4132 7 лет назад

      george owens thanks but judging where the leak came from ..the pressure hose where it screws in near the radiator,do you think it could be the pump or rack and opinions?

    • @MasterNeko
      @MasterNeko  7 лет назад

      Stand In line me personally I would go for the cheaper option first, if u plan on keeping this car you will have new parts even if the rack is out but that really does happen

  • @MrJluvii

    You can approach by removing the air box an use a 18 mm line wrench so your not rounding the nut

    Dama bro, blow your nose!!! Otherwise great job. For the last 2 days i replaced my power steering pump and the high pressure line ao now im watching videos seeing if anyone else thought it was as much a pain in the ass as i did. To be honest the hardest part for me was atarting the 2 power steering mount bolts wity one hand while holding the pumo in tye other.. I ended up gettingva 4in 1/4 in drilo bit ansticking it in the bottom hole while i got tye top bolt started...theres just not alot of room to maneuver.
