0:00 Introduction: The best natural remedy for gout
    1:15 Sulforaphane for gout
3:10 Uric acid and your kidneys
4:38 Check out my other video on uric acid and gout!
In this video, we’re going to talk about a natural remedy for gout. Gout medications work by inhibiting the xanthine oxidase enzyme that converts purine into uric acid.
If you want to get rid of gout naturally, you need to eliminate things like alcohol and fructose from your diet. However, many people do this and still have gout!
Is there a natural inhibitor for the xanthine oxidase enzyme that can work as an effective home remedy for gout? The answer is yes!
Sulforaphane is a plant chemical or polyphenol that may be the perfect home remedy for gout.
The best sources of sulforaphane are broccoli sprouts and radish sprouts. You can also find it in a capsule. Sulforaphane is one of the most bioavailable polyphenols with around 80 percent bioavailability. This means that it’s highly absorbable.
Sulforaphane can activate genes and enzymes that help to eliminate poisons and carcinogens from the body. It can activate over 100 defense genes!
Sulforaphane helps restore the nephron in the kidneys, which allows the body to filter out toxins. Our body makes uric acid, which is filtered out through the kidneys. If they cannot filter out uric acid, gout can sometimes be caused by an issue at the kidney level.
Sulforaphane helps upregulate antioxidants, reducing free radical damage and inflammation. It also increases microbial diversity, allowing microbes to dismantle and remove excess uric acid from the body.

Dr. Perlmutter wrote the book on uric acid. Worth the read. Very interesting. Everything doctors told me about Gout 20 years ago was pretty much wrong. Gout can be flared by simple dehydration. I drink a lot more water and added lemon juice to the first 40 oz of water I drink every morning. Gout is pretty much gone for almost 2 years now.

I'm a beer brewer and don't plan to give that up anytime soon. I started having flare-ups last year (I'm 58 yo). I've tried so many of these online suggestions for gout. So far, of all the "natural" supplements that I've tried, it's been the tart cherry extract that has worked as a preventative for me. I only had one minor flare-up in the last 8 months since taking it and it was not painful. But, this looks promising as well. I do enjoy broccoli, brussel sprouts, and arugula.

The manufacturer suggests 2 capsules per day. I am only trying 1 per day and I would recommend you not take 2. Test out the effects on your digestive system slowly. I am hoping this works out and I can slowly reduce my Allopurinol to 0. Currently at 200 mg a day. Keep up the great videos!

My case must be unique. All the supposed triggers pretty much caused a flare up, this went on for years. The usually meds didn't prevent it. I move to South Florida and move mostly to a seafood diet and haven't had gout in two years. The big change was that I eliminated most red meat. I can now enjoy anything I want--tons of seafood, drink much alcohol, junk food, soda, etc. No issues whatsoever. My standard uric acid level is lower than ever at like 7.6, it was always up around 9.0 for 20 years.

I'm disabled from gout as it destroyed all my joints. Had to get my ankles fused. They were bone on bone and grinded away from all the damage. I never got a flare in my toe. It's always my ankle, knee, wrist, shoulder or elbow. I don't drink alcohol or eat purine rich foods. I actually quit eating broccoli years ago because it gave me gout so bad but now I see that's because it was getting things moving. Just like gout meds cause flares because they do the same thing until your uric acid levels out. Guess I'll have to give this extract a try.

The dumbest thing I ever did was to not take the meds that I was rxd. For years I refused to take Allopurinol, Colchicine and Probenacid. My Gout just kept getting worse. I tried natural remedies and in the end I did more damage to my joints and my feet than good. Irreversible damage. Nerve damage too. I've been on Allopurinol now for 5 or 6 years and it has saved my life. I wouldn't be here today if not for a great doctor who finally convinced me. He made more sense than the 30 others. I don't have anymore attacks, no electrical explosions attacks. Those are the worst. Yet the damage is done on my joints and nerves. I take it day by day. Eating right, staying healthy. It's been an insane ride to say the least.

To maintain a healthy lifestyle, focus on a balanced diet. Prioritize complex carbohydrates, such as fresh vegetables, legumes, whole grain breads, pastas, and rice, which provide essential nutrients and fiber. Complex carbs should be about 80% of your daily calories. For protein, limit it to 10% of your daily calories so choose lean options like chicken breast, turkey, fish, and beans. Limit fat intake to healthy sources like milk, cheese, yogurt, and eggs to 10% of your daily calories as well. Avoid processed foods, sugary drinks, and unhealthy cooking oils. Remember to stay hydrated with water, herbal teas, and coffee. Finally, I supplement my gout diet with Nutrigout which support the kidneys. Consistency and moderation are key!

Hi Dr. Berg. I fear I have gout right now but it started in my ankle. Doctor couldn’t get fluid from ankle and won’t commit to it being gout. My dad gets it in his toe. Can it be random and go to ankle first? I got on steroids they gave me for 10 days and half way through. Swelling and pain went down tremendously but there seems to be little aches still. I’m on an island working right now and hard to get to a proper VA hospital for myself. Resting it and supplementing for it and eating for it as it is gout but I’m still semi worried. Maybe you don’t see this but if someone else with any know of these things feel free to chime in! At this point after the pain I’m hoping it is gout just so I can treat for It. I didn’t sprain ankle or anything, the pain and swelling just came out of nowhere. Thank you.

Dr. Berg, I wanted to ask if Heme Iron supplements are safe to consume over long periods of time?

    • @Drberg
      @Drberg  Месяц назад

It's best to get your iron from your diet before jumping into taking an iron supplement. Foods rich in iron are red meat, liver, and shellfish. However, liver pills or spleen pills could be good supplement options.
You also need to work towards identifying why you're iron deficient so that you can fix the root cause.

I've been on keto for 3 years now but still cannot lower my blood pressure , unfortunately need to resort to medication otherwise I could not function. I suspect the root cause is my adrenal glands which underwent a tremendous amount of continuos stress for like 6 years in a row. Work related. Altough the joint pain has disappeared since I've been on keto ( almost zero carbs), I still have elevated levels of the uric acid in my blood , tested it several times. It might just be a missing link to the whole puzzle - I've tried everything I could before, but I was looking for an answer what else I could do to bring it down. Thank you dr Berg! 🙏🏻

½ tablespoon of baking soda with a pint of water 3x a day kills a gout attack pronto. Also putting your foot under the bathtub spout and run the watter cold till u cant stand it then flip it hot till you cant stand it, do this back and forth for 10 minutes everytime u take the bakingsoda, the hot cold treatment really flushes the blood throughout the joint

    • @kr23777

@kr23777 the only side effects from it for me is quick relief. It's much less sodium than the hospital gives you when they hook u up to an IV bag. First thing in any emergency situation is getting hooked to a saline IV bag, the need for lack of sodium is like the need for the vax imo, humans are 70% saltwater

    • @uslanja

I fully agree with your use of baking soda although I drink down much more then that. A lot of sodium and horrible tasting but it quickly brings significant relief. I also soak my foot in ice water to numb the pain but never tried alternating with hot. Thanks for the suggestion!
