I used to have gout attacks, in my early 20s I was overweight, 260 lbs at 5'9. What gradually made my gout go away was doing kale shakes, drinking water, less coffee, no beer. Then I started losing weight, alot of weight I started gaining muscle mass and started fasting. Fasted weight lifting sessions, Fasted cardio sessions. I drink water religiously now.
An observation on people who have gout is that they dont drink enough water, have balanced electrolytes. I became a registered nurse and work in the dialysis and renal function dept. I noticed alot of people not drinking any water having kidney stones and gout. Even in the hospital during an emergency situation the solution was to drink water, yet patients denied it so we have to start IV fluids on them to hydrate and balance their electrolytes... PEOPLE, DRINK WATER, BALANCE YOUR ELECTROLYTES SO YOUR ORGANS CAN FUNCTION.
What if our organs needed water to function? DUH do it, drink water, fast, eat veggies, WATCH YOUR LIFE TURN 180! yet people are so arrogant and stubborn.

My post from about 2 years ago below. I still have no gout attacks or symptoms.
""As a 30 year gout sufferer (71 YO), I found the following:
Gout can be in any joint of the body - however most prevalent in the big toe.
I had one attack in neck, many others in various joints.
MD treatment and pharma meds on a daily basis did not stop my gout attacks. Gave up this strategy after about 3 years.
Avoiding high purine foods and alcohol did not stop my attacks.
Exercise and natural remedies helped more than any of the above. My daily cocktail was and still is:
Dark cherry juice, turmeric, ACV, celery seed, fresh lemon juice w/pulp, cinnamon, black pepper.
Even with the above cocktail the attacks become more frequent with age.
Keto diet stopped all pain and swelling in 10 days.
After that I switched from Keto to High Fat/Low Carb diet.
Now, after 4 months, gout and related symptoms are still gone.
I eat many foods that are on the DO NOT EAT if you have gout lists. Asparagus, mushrooms, pork, bacon, red meats, etc.
Still drink some beer but in lesser amounts and it's low carb.
Weight has decreased by 13 lbs. (now at ideal weight for my height)
Blood pressure has decreased from ~150/78 to 120/71.
    Sleep is much better.....""

I noted that I had less problems digesting bread and gluten while on that herb.
The effect was so pronounced that I decided to research for cat's claw effect on inflammation.
Turned out there was such research, and given my gut issues it was very rewarding to find a publication that dealt with the reduiction of inflammation specifically in the deeper gut lining tissue. Bingo ! It's a pretty hefty medicine with some side effects although in my case that could be partially the herxheimer reaction caused by infection die-off. I have been studying food born illnesses since 1977 and have dealt with gout in my father and I have had horrible peripheral nephropathy to the extent that I couldn't even stand having a sheet laying on my feet. There are 2 foods that can actually overcome the pain entirely by riding you of uric acid. The best one is celery. Eat 4 stalks a day for 2 weeks and you will not have any pain. To a lesser extent strawberries work to. Of course you are right about sugar so stopping all consumption of sugar is necessary.

I have had problems with gout flare-ups for 40 years and have tried many holistic remedies as Alaperinol made my hair fall out. For the last 15 years, the one that has helped me the most is Black Cherry powder, when I first feel the coming on of a flare-up (usually at around 3 am ) if I get up and take 800mg of Blake Cherry Powder then 200mg every 4 hours through the day I can keep it from developing into a full flare-up. I have gone from several flare-ups a year to zero using this method. When I was in my late 50s through 60s I would take 2 a day as a precaution, but now only take them when I feel one coming on.
By the way, the only place where I could find the Black Cherry Powder capsules was Puritan's Pride, I keep 5 or 6 bottles of 100, 100mg caps on hand and remember to bring one with me if traveling.
I don't know if it will work for you, but it sure turned things around for me!

I started my weight loss journey in February 2019. I followed the Keto diet, along with a candida diet (a lot overlapped), IF and long term fasting. Over the course of a year and a half, I lost a total of 228lbs (starting weight 428) .
I was able to achieve this through hard work, perseverance, and guidance from people like you, Dr. Berg. For this I am very thankful. Along this journey, I had many complications, gout being a big one.
Within weeks of starting my journey, I had a mild case of gout in my left big toe. Never experienced gout in my life (I was 41 at the time). It only got worse from there. Within a month plus, it became my entire left foot. Most pain I had ever felt, this coming from someone who broke many bones racing dirt bikes. It was ONLY after starting my diet did I experience this. This went on for roughly 8 months (on and off). It was brutal and debilitating.
I was baffled because I was eating the healthiest I had in my life. Doing none of the habits that cause gout. I began to try and narrow it down, and believed it an excess of spinach in my diet, or possibly my kidneys were not used to a rapid expulsion of toxins in my body, therfore unable to filter quick enough (despite drinking loads of spring water). I eventually tamed it through diet adjustments, 0 medication, but went on to have kidney stones (I'll save that story).
Long story short, thank you for this video, and all your others. But for anyone experiencing anything like I did, or for my own curiosity, have you run into, or heard of such a scenario?
Thank you if you read this whole thing (if at all), and thank you for helping so many people (like myself).

It’s most probably an overload of protein. Regularly check the PH of your urine and you’ll learn a lot about what foods cause acidity. How much you eat also has a huge effect. If you’re urine acidity is really low and then you overload your kidneys with another high protein meal, your chances of gout improve immensely.
Hydrion PH strips to check urine are less then $10.

    • @robertkoehler1641

    • @stevegnilica1946
      @stevegnilica1946 Год назад +7

@@robertkoehler1641 I've read somewhere that the process of autophagy caused by fasting can elevate uric acid levels temporarily thus causing flair up. Also, apparently the body prioritizes the exception of ketones over uric acid so serum levels rise when in ketosis. For me, proteins never seemed to cause flare ups but alcohol and sugars always do, even fruit. I eat more meat now than ever and things seem better not worse. And lastly, something I haven't seen anyone mention, is that persons affected by gout seem to have an alternative microbiota. Primarily candida overgrowth. It would seem that as people alter their diets to and make it inhospitable for candida to thrive in the intestinal track, conditions improve. This was definitely the case for me. And let's remember, alcohol can definitely disrupt gut microbiota. As well as excess sugars. I personally thing it's a gut disorder and candida overgrowth. Seems also many gout patients have some forms of IBS.

From what I've understood rapid weight loss can trigger gout flares as the uric acid has been stored in your fat and losing weight very rapidly releases it into your body raising your uric acid and causing flares.

    • @Emundas455
      @Emundas455 Год назад +7

Rapid weight loss is a classic cause of gout. Its the dying off of the cells that produces uric acid as part of the process which the body then has to remove. And your weight loss was absolutely rapid weight loss. Congrats on that BTW. The answer to that is to lose weight slower, but I think for your overall health that weight loss was more important, even tho that pain is off the charts.

@@gidds617maybe it depends upon the source of gout or any other arthritis. For me, as a diabetic, yes, the more sugar I have, the more pain I’m in, in about 1-2 days. Lots of pain and stiffness. Not sure if it’s actually gout though. But,’it almost feels like sugar crystals have migrated to every moving part, although that’s not how gout works. I’ve seen it recommended to take Vitamin C for gout and, since I already have some, I’ll take it starting today. But, again, I’m in less pain, when I eliminate sugar, like when I went OMAD and was only having an omelette per day. Plus, I lost 10 lbs that month. I added walking , but it’s the change in food that caused weight loss and less weight on joints, although I had less pain in non-weight bearing joints, as well.

The method that lowered my uric acid level (based on lab work) and made most of the pain go away:
    - an apple a day (you'll find the studies). Regulates liver function (relevant to purine metabolism) and creates malates (good for the kidneys). I put this between breakfast and lunch. For convenience.
    - 1-3 oranges. Usually in the evening (also backed by scientific studies). Raises urine pH and creates citrates (good for kidneys)
    - sports. Daily. Makes me drink more water. Sweating is not mandatory but will help the kidneys by unloading some crap from blood.
    - lowered purine-rich food intake. But I still can consume 100 g of protein/day.
    - part of daily protein intake is from dairy (mostly cheese and curds) and eggs (these don't contain purines)
Orange intake is mostly correlated to purine intake (more purine-rich foods = more oranges), consumed a few hours after purine-rich food.
As others stated in their comments, water intake is very important (but not enough by itself, especially beyond a certain age).
PS: I'm omnivore, if that matters to you.

I strongly agree with eliminating fructose. Uric acid and fructose use the same protein transport out of the body but preferentially uptakes fructose to remove it, so stores the uric acid to maintain blood pH levels in its very narrow pH range. Once I learned this I went from having been on a cane for years to being able to reliably walk without it in just 3 weeks.
Dissolving and drinking some baking soda in water helps to raise the pH allowing some of the uric acid to decrystallize but if you aren't helping your kidneys remove it by stopping the fructose you will only get a temporary benefit.
With regards to diabetic and pre-diabetic's being more likely to have gout, I wouldn't be surprised to find thats due to more sugar (and therefore fructose) in the diet.

How these people are allowed to put these add-ons into the supplements is beyond me it's like someone saying Okay we're going to give you a multivitamin with rat poison. And this is something that scared me. I had some bread that got left in the backseat of my car. Six months later the bread was in the exact same condition. So I took it out and set one slice on the porch to see what would happen. Insects wouldn't touch it no ants. No birds nothing. And the bread did not rot. I would usually get gout every couple weeks or so. And i can assure you it's everything that deals with your diet. Also your water intake. You need to play around with your diet as to what will start it, to find out what and what you CAN NOT EAT. Always have cherry juice on hand, preferably the one from Trader Joes. That helps a bunch! Celery is a good one as well. For me my gout starter is Sugar mixed with the other foods such as shrimp and fatty pork. You also need to work out too and dont be overweight. But overall, watch your diet! That is the key. If you want to get rid of your gout attack naturally, drink Cherry Juice and eat celery. During this process drink alot of water. After years of gout flares I have discovered that sugar is the culprit. I ate a huge amount of candies three days ago and had a major flareup, Howerver I havent had a flareup for a few months which is very unusual. I have been taking fish oil capsules two a day and this seems to be the factor that has kept the gout at bay -- plus staying away from sugar. No more sitting with feet in icy water to take away the pain of gout.
