Yes Jess!!! I am a fellow Jess who also cramped in the last mile of my marathon on Sat. I had to run through it to sprint finish and make my Boston Qualifying time by 43 seconds 😂 it hurt so bad and I passed a guy walking in those last 200 meters. The struggle is freaking real. You crushed. So proud of you!
Perception is so much of a mind f**k 😂 when I run 4:20 kpm (my current 5k goal pace) I feel like I am sprinting as fast as I can but whenever I watch anyone else at this pace online it looks like they are cruising along so easy! 🤦♂️ well done Jess for maintaining this for a marathon! Incredible effort and congratulations!
Ran a PB this year as well, the emotions over the line were too much and I blubbed for a solid 2 minutes. There is nothing wrong with releasing months of focus and effort after it culminates into a beautiful moment. Congratulations
Congratulations! You are such an inspiration. I also tell myself during races that I've done harder things to get me through. "Believe that you can. Decide that you will." I've just written that down - I love it!
Well done Jess!! Crying at the end for and with you, you shared the journey of a marathon and trying to hit a goal whilst fighting those annoying internal demons. So happy for you, huge hugs 🤗 x
Well done Jess! Wise words and I was in the same predicament too. I did the Nottingham Robin Hood Half on the same day and thought "those hills are nasty, I'll just aim for a 2h30". Without realising I started with the 2h05 pacer and I dropped back a fair bit for the first 6 or so KM. But, just like you, my legs felt so fresh that I eventually caught and passed that same pacer at the halfway mark and eventually beat the 2h goal I've had since I started my running journey last year. My previous best was a 2h09 on a flat course earlier this year. Belief and self-confidence, knowing you can do the time in training and applying it to race day. Adrenaline and the crowd really makes the difference! But I have to say, if it wasn't for everyone at The Running Channel for showing me all of your journeys, I probably would've given up already. Truly inspirational and again, amazing effort and congratulations Jess, well deserved - you smashed it!!!
@@ADHD_Runner Thanks. I think it was one of those days where everything just "clicked" and I had a wonderful time along a gorgeous route. If no one's done the Nottingham Half yet, then I highly recommend it!
So good! Congrats Jess, I’ve told heaps of people about you missing out on sub 3 by 11 seconds (just brutal) and now can tell that you came back and did sub 3!
You are such a machine Jess. So impressive and so tough. What a great achievement. Congratulations on your new PB, thanks for sharing the joy with us!!! 🎉
Got my first trail race on Saturday and I've not been able to train for nearly two weeks. I was in a pretty grim place mentally because of that but this has lifted me. I'm going to put faith all the weeks of training in the bag and give all I can. Thank you.
This video is incredible! I'm attempting my first sub-3 in 3 weeks (3:02:48 PR). I'm so incredibly nervous and overanalyzing my training. Your grit and emotions at the end reminded me why we do this! Congratulations!!!
Having gone out and just run my first marathon I am blown away by what you've achieved here. I cannot imagine how much mental strength is required to push through such physical discomfort & pain to keep on running your target splits - especially the ones required for a sub-3h time. Chapeau.
Jess is such a great sport & this is such a great video! Formidable achievement! In pain she brought joy -incredibly inspiring! "Believe that you can, but decide that you will"🔥🔥🔥
Thank you so much for sharing this run with us. I love the four zones, the clarity of your mantra - believe you can and decide you will - and the determination you had to nail this goal. It is absolutely inspiring.
Without spoiling the results for others who've not watched the video (but read ahead in the comments), congrats on your chip time (official) being even better than your GPS time (42.6km +/-). Also, having looked at the splits, I am honestly amazed at how consistent your splits and pace were up to 40km. Well done!
YES JESSSSSSS!!!! If you can't be motivated by your journey you stand no chance! Love this and thank you for sharing the highs and lows! Smashed it girl!!
Great video and greater run! Isn't it funny how "seconds" make such a difference between reaching a self made goal or not? So glad to know there is a large tribe of people out there that are wired the same way! Congrats Jess!
Such an inspiration Jess!!!❤ I love that you're open with your struggles as a runner. I also struggle with confidence in running a new pb and pushing my limits. Thank you for being so open about it
OMG… so emotional watching that and was crying before you even crossed the line. Such an incredible person and you’ve inspired me to get the shoes back on and get some me time on the roads. I’ve not run all year, but know its time to get back out there after I heal from my ACL surgery ❤
This was beautiful and inspiring. "Believe that you can but decide that you will." @runningchannel and Jess, Thank You for such a touching and inspirational video. Congratulations, Jess
Well done! That's amazing. I ran my first marathon earlier in May and I came in 3:00:53. I was on pace to break 3 hours but once I hit 34km I broke down and felt so sick. I managed to drag on for the next 8k, though, and beat my 2nd goal of sub 3:05:00 to qualify for chicago :) Well done again Jess!
Congratulations Jess!! That was incredibly inspiring! I could feel the cramping in that last 400m. I’m attempting my first ever full marathon in Melbourne on the weekend. I’m so incredibly nervous. I’ve followed my brilliant Runna app training plan for 20 weeks. I know I will have to fight my mind throughout the day. I’m determined to not let it beat me. I’m aiming for just under 4hrs but I know at the end of the day just finishing a marathon will be something I never thought would be possible.
You're an absolute superstar! The number one battle is against your own demons and you crushed them. Also, fighting through the pain is one of those wonderfully bittersweet flavours most people simply miss out on... The sweet part of the bittersweet comes a bit after the race... Congratulations Jess!!!
That was just brilliant, very inspiring. I knew Jess had achieved her goal before I started watching, but still I was (in my head, lol!) shouting to the tv ‘go Jess, run!’ as she was approaching the finish line. What an amazing performance!
Great run Jess. I was following your tracker on the day and the last 400m seemed to take forever as I watched the clock. Brilliant. You deserved that after putting in the hard efforts
Thanks for the Great video. What an inspiration. I’m running my first half marathon this weekend, as a 46 year old who’s recently lost 50kgs. I’ve done all the hard work, the early morning sessions in the dark and cold and for weeks I’ve been telling myself (and anyone who will listen) I think just I can run sub 1:40. You’ve inspired me, now I will run sub 1:40. Let’s go 🔥
Incredible, well done Jess! I’ve been inspired to set myself the challenge of going sub-3 (got 24 minutes to shave off so will take some time) - thanks for sharing your journey and showing us how it’s done.
Jess, this was amazing. Well done well done well done! I get super nervous before races and especially pb attempts. I found your whole video very relatable especially as I’m going to be trying to break 3:30 for the first time in 13 days 😳
Brilliant video Jess and massive congratulations. The pain on your face in those last 400m looked intense, so kudos for powering through. A true champion
Offft someone cutting onions in here, Berlin didn't work out for me as I hoped but still happy with the PB as i really didnt think it would go as it did. this was quite an emotional watch, ive have a sub 3 dream maybe time to as you so eloquently said "Believe that I can, but decide I will"
Amazing Jess. Im less than 3 weeks away from my 2nd marathon this year - Dublin. Runna has helped me so much. Aiming for 4 hrs or fingers crossed, just below it. Bring it on!!!!
I feel like this video doesn't show the chaos and disorganisation of so many parts of Berlin Marathon weekend (e.g. Expo), but it does bring back so many good memories of running last weekend. Congratulations Jess!
Congrats and much respect , i remember my first sub3 so vivid like it was yesterday. It felt so life changing, like everything you offered and worked hard for in training came togheter and you find an all time inner peace. This one they can't take you off girl 💪🏅.
Great job. Believe that you can, but decide that you will. This will be my mantra for this Sundays Chicago Marathon where I am also aiming for a Sub 3 after 3 attempts.
Amazing work! Sat crying at this right before going out for one of my last training runs before my half marathon this weekend! Hope I can dig deep like you did ❤
could literally see your left leg seizing up in that last stretch, what an effort to get it done, at that point your body gives up and it's all mental. incredible. when i first started training cycling my legs seized up so bad near the end of a session that i couldn't pedal, they were stiffened straight and i fell off the bike lol.
"Believe that you can, but decide that you will" gave me chills! What an awesome video
It's a great moto isn't it!
The best!! … awesome job Jess 🎉😅
@@runningchannel I’ll keep it in mind for my next PR training block. Sub 3 seems far now, but I’ll get there. This got me pumped!

Was so excited to see you at the Expo, i didn't hit my 4 hour goal like we talked, but still a 20 minute PR. Congrats on the race, you worked HARD.
You worked hard too! Congratulations!
Well done! It's the trick to get a PB by not too much, so the next PB is around the corner, so great work!
Sooo lovely to meet you! And huge congrats on your PB 💪
