The final step to processing your kick drum is adding a noise gate.
Gating allows you to remove parts of the kit that may have been picked up by the kick drum mic that you don't need within your kick track. This will help clean up your kick track and give you even more headroom for other pieces within your mix.
In this tutorial we'll look at how to gate your kick drum by examining the common parameters within a noise gate plug-in. We can remove the bleed of other instruments within your kick mic, highlight the kick only when it is hit, and keep its sustain intact.
Got to say, these are probably the best set of tutorials i've ever seen. In terms of the amount of information and the way it is explained. I don't even play drums, but after watching the majority of these videos I have a much greater understanding of how to get a good mix with drums that have already been recorded.
I see that this vid was uploaded about 10 months ago. Guessing we're not going to see any more. This was extremely helpful and wish you would've kept working on this project for all of us to learn from. Guess I'm going to have to look for other tom mixing vids and then a final overall drum mix before mastering vid. Thanks for the help none the less.
You rock dude. These tutorials have helped me a ton! I'm sad to see this is the last video of the series. I hope all is well with you and I hope to see you making more videos in the future; tutorials or otherwise.
I watched all 12 drums mixing tutorials - took lots of notes. I'm already practicing all these great tips on a few tracks I have. You are very thorough, clear, concise with a bit of background info sprinkled in along the way, which is always helpful. LOVE THESE!!!! I'm like everyone else - where's 13?!
I seriously watched all of these videos two and three times-- and took notes! Great videos! Excellent videos! You were very clear, and thorough and it made for perfect tutorials. Thank you so much!
+Brendan Faloona same hahaha
Great work, it helped me understand the nuisances and Dynamics of the process. can't wait for part 13.
You have a freakin good talent to explain something to somebody and not going of topic. Very nice set of tutorials, helps a lot and after watching them you kinda really get to understand parameters being used. Thank you very much! Fantastic :)
Thank you very much for all your help with your mixing videos. I've learned a ton from your videos thanks again
Great explanations! I learned a lot from these lessons. Thanks.
great tutorials by the way. thanks a bunch!
I watched all 12 videos... pure gold. Thank you! But now i feel sad... i have to know about toms eq and final mastering... Please please please finish this Playlist!

hey man your tutorials rock, is there a part 13 coming out ive worked through my drum mixing using your tutorials, i dont know whats next after kick gating, cheers.
When will video 13 be up!? :(
Thank you. Look fwd to more.
Great Videos, especially EQ
AH WHY NO 13? It's been such a valuable resource for my drum recording.
yeah dude , for us too
Waiting for part 13!
I do have a question - on a lot of drum tutorials I've seen, they always start w kick up at unity and everything else is balanced toward that. The overheads usually only come up a little to fill out the sound. You did it differently - you brought overheads up FIRST, then brought everything else up. I'm curious as to why you do it that way as opposed to the other way? I like your way better actually (have to go experiment a little to be sure).
super!!!!! dude.. awesome
Seriously, where is video #13 ?
Still looking for video 13 in 2020!
Hi Gregg, if you completed the whole series with the same intensity and made a dvd/ online course out of it, I,m sure you would sell a lot....to bad man...But due to the absent of reactions and part 13 I guess something else happend maybe...I hope everything is fine though...
how did our kick comp attack time go from 6ms in the previous vid to 12ms here?
how do u remove snare bleed from hi hats mic?
try side chain compression as he did with the overheads
Still waiting for part 13+
Superb tutorials though, I watched them all
Tom vids??
Just like in a building, there is no number 13.
Help me ... wave drum set jazz .. thank you ....
