  • In this great tutorial by Dan Worrall, he introduces the FabFilter Pro-G gate/expander plug-in. He explains the basic controls and features and gives some great real-world examples of how to use it.

    Dan makes these so packed with info, I find myself watching again and again and learn something new each time! Thanks, Dan and FabFilter, for making your tutorials almost as great as the plugins. Only gripe - wish they were longer and more in depth. Simply awesome stuff.

    I've found that 6:15 minutes in, this is extremely useful for creating noise for top ends of dnb drums.

    Seems to be a great plugin, like all FF plugins. You say that algorithms includes an hysteresis, but I just do not see any hysteresis knob for a manual setting. This value is very useful when you tweak a gate. They should implement this.

    Is it possible to expand upwards the signal that is below threshold? To make quiter parts louder without effecting the peaks. Same like Waves MV2
    In this video upwards mode apparently expanding the peak for resuming the dynamics.
    PS: My question is other than the ducking mode (i.e. compression) please

    I've just purchased the Pro-G today and I noticed that the threshold goes all the way to -60dB in this video, whereas mine only allows me to go to -30dB and it's giving me a hard time. Is there any reason why this is?

    • @TorontoPopulistConservative
      @TorontoPopulistConservative 2 года назад +1

      I'm sure you've worked it out by now but at 7:07 he switches to upward mode and the threshold min changes to -30. It appears to depend on the gate mode you are using.

    Could you please explain how you feed an external signal to the sidechain of FabFilter Pro-G? That part of the video went super fast and doesn't correspond to any of the inputs that I see in Ableton. Surely there must be a sidechain input selection somewhere on the Pro-G interface? Can't find it, though.

    • @user-hn3jw7pm6u
      @user-hn3jw7pm6u 11 дней назад

      -I think that depends on the DAW you are using.

    • @jamesmalloch5801
      @jamesmalloch5801 10 дней назад

      Finally found out that it's not on the Pro-G interface itself. I use Ableton, so the sidechain selector drop down menu is on the little Pro-G mini-module interface in the toolbar of the individual track (same place where you drop other effects.)

    All due respect, on this vid (and all the fabfilter tutorial vids), why is it a constant line of speech trying to talk over the effects? Please do one at a time, I can't concentrate on what you're saying, and I also don't get a chance to hear the effect in action, constant speech and constant noise!
