My god, Paul McGann was such an amazing Doctor. He was like the prototype Matt Smith - he brings eccentricity and emotion to the role in equal measure and absolutely nails both. He's one of my favorites for sure. It's actually a massive shame that he didn't get any more TV time after the movie - even one season would've made my day. I really hope he shows up in the anniversary because seeing him interact with 10th and 11th would be amazing!
This movie was the reason I became a DW fan! If Paul McGann isn't part of the 50th Anniversary special in November, Moffat should do another Children In Need special, like Time Crash, and feature McGann as the Eighth Doctor. He deserves another chance at playing the Doctor!
I saw the Paul McGann DW movie on BBC America for the first time the other night. I thought both he (and the movie) were both terrific (although i never did understand the snake thing concerning the Master!). It's too bad the Beeb never brought him back full-time. His energy and eccentricity reminded me a lot of Tom Baker!
I met Paul McGann a First Contact Convention in Melbourne hes very very Nice its interested when he talks about the role and how he had to wear a wig as he had very short hair at the time hence the Wig hes worth listerning too :)
Paul McGann was also great in a movie that caused controversey "The Monocled Muntineer" about Percey Topliss who was a british solider who became an outlaw.
I saw an audition tape of him for the Doctor Who movie and he had gorgeous long hair. Apparently the hair was a big factor when they finally cast him but by that time he'd already cut it off, hence the wig.
we now know the 8th doctor will regenerate into the John Hurt 'forgotten doctor who ended the time war' then he will regenerate into Eccelson, this will all be shown in the 50th anniversary
The theory is the John Hurt, who was seen right at the end of 'the name of the Doctor' episode in series 7 is the regeneration between eight and nine, the dark side of the dr, Which would then make nine the tenth doctor and so on. Also means that Matt Smith would be the 12th doctor so he would only have one more regeneration left which has been confirmed as Peter Capaldi. digitalspy.co.uk/tv/s7/doctor-who/news/a495786/doctor-who-john-hurt-character-identity-confirmed.html xxx
As I understand it, John Hurt's appearance as a version of The Doctor from some unknown point in his chronology has sparked the theory that his Doctor followed on from McGann's, meaning that we may yet have more to see. Check out Hurt's episode - as I understand it, it was the clothes he wore that engendered this theory, as he seems to be wearing McGann's "Doctor Outfit". Take a look and decide for yourself!
I don't think it was planned all along, but this is certainly something that has been in the works for a good long while. Perhaps not since the very beginning of the revival series but still, a while.
This is an amazing video. Pity it couldn't have been the trailer in 1996. It would be perfect for that. :) And I agree with you on the audios. There are very few of them I like. I'm more of an EDA and 1996 film fan.
Not exactly planned but think of it like a very creative fan thinking of a way to fill the gap by making an interesting fanfic. In this case, the creative fan is Steven Moffat and he can control the story of the series and call it canon.
Just in case it's not obvious what MysteronAgent means, the new series is not an actual reboot. Christopher Eccleston is the 9th doctor. Although that may change with the 50th anniversary episode, which introduces John Hurt's doctor somewhere into the mix and might change the ordering. But I just read that in that episode we may yet see 8 change into 9, whoever 9 will be at that point, as Paul McGann (the movie Doctor) is reportedly involved somehow!
Intentionally there may not have been as the 50th anniversary explains thyat there is a doctor between mcgann and ecclston, which is Johgn Hurt, who is a regeneration that the later doctors refuse to acknowledge, the dark john Hurt may explain why ecclston was a more of a serious doctor too :)
Russel T. Davies was originally going to start the 2005 revival with a regeneration, but decided that it would be too confusing at first for the new generation of viewers that he was trying to bring in.
Well, the regeneration was going to appear in a comic as the last part of "The Flood" story by DWM, but they declined as it would ruin the eighth doctor's current companions and whatnot at the time of the regen, but all we know now is that the regeneration happened with nobody else near or watching and that it happened near the end of the Time War...
I have a theory on why the 8th doctor regenerated. During the time war both the daleks and time lords were fighting my theory is that the doctor put gallifrey into a "time lock" he used his energy along with the regeneration energy (regeneration radiation if you must) thus making the planet burning for eternity it is also the reason he cannot return for it would break the "time lock"
There have been a couple of rumors online recently, but there's talk that Paul Mcgann has/is filming something Doctor Who related. I have no idea if its true but what I know is waiting for the 50th anniversary episode is driving me crazy.
Take a try at 'to death' and 'an earthly child' thise seem to be the most fan favorite because of lucie millers leaving and the return of susan foreman
I really liked McGann as the Doctor - such a massive pity the movie was so poor. However he has done some FANTASTIC audio stories - so if you haven't discovered them yet - check em out. Radio 4 Extra run a few every so often and of course there are many more on CD.....
BUT. the 8th never did and up regenerating to the 9th because of the time war doctor played by john hurt in the upcoming 50th anniversary, maybe this was planned all along O_o

"I am half human, On my mother's side"
Rule one: The Doctor Lies.
The film has plenty of flaws, but Paul McGann as the Eighth Doctor is not one of them.
Its a shame he doesn't get more cred as the Dr. He was genuinely really good.
And then there is Night of the Doctor...
I loved Paul McGann as the eighth doctor, and was so disappointed when the series was not brought back then.
I am vastly disappointed that the Eighth Doctor only appeared in one movie. He was so funny, why couldn't he at least have a season!?
I saw the Paul McGann DW movie on BBC America for the first time the other night. I thought both he (and the movie) were both terrific (although i never did understand the snake thing concerning the Master!). It's too bad the Beeb never brought him back full-time. Excellent choise of music!
The doctor isn't half human. Must be the memory loss.
... You know what, I don't care what anyone says.
Paul McGann deserves to be in the 50th anniversary.
He's official, screw anyone who says otherwise.
This doctor seems really cool, I would like to see more of him.
just saw this movie the other day, it's awesome :D
there are many 'Big Finish' audio adventures of the eighth doctor that are amazing, if this movie doesn't settle your appetite.
paul's doctor I think was before it's time. He was a great doctor for his only one time, and it's sad he didn't get more screen time.
Im sorry but this is the first time I've seen this doctor in action. He's fantastic!
I met Paul McGann a First Contact Convention in Melbourne hes very very Nice its interested when he talks about the role and how he had to wear a wig as he had very short hair at the time hence the Wig hes worth listerning too :)
Tsfh.... you, my friend, have an impeccable taste in music :3
Also, Paul McGann is an extraordinarily good looking Doctor.
Paul McGann was also great in a movie that caused controversey "The Monocled Muntineer" about Percey Topliss who was a british solider who became an outlaw.
Paul mcgann.for me is THE doctor.
Cravets are cool:)

ok i know 1 thing now.
paul mcgann needed at least 2 seasons maybe 4 .
loved it!

Thank you! I am still quite a novice in the Doctor Who universe, so I am trying to piece together what I can.

Steampunk doctor

That was really ** Cool. Its been a long time since I saw this.
Excuse me, which song did you use with your video? It sounds so epic!
I have always wondered they did not continue with the 8th Doctor who when went back on television.
I need to see this!
This is an amazing video. Pity it couldn't have been the trailer in 1996. It would be perfect for that. :) And I agree with you on the audios. There are very few of them I like. I'm more of an EDA and 1996 film fan.
This was great! You should do one for all the Doctors!

The first 7 doctors only got four episodes each season every episode added up to an hour long sit through
Chills.
It didn't start afresh, it just continued on without showing the events between the 96 movie and the 2005 series.
you made an epic trailer.
Russel T. Davies was originally going to start the 2005 revival with a regeneration, but decided that it would be too confusing at first for the new generation of viewers that he was trying to bring in.
I am a whovian, so don't bite my head off for this, but this seems way to exciting for Doctor Who.
Rule 1: The Doctor Lies (God I hope)
I have a theory on why the 8th doctor regenerated. It's also called, Doctor Who: The Enemy Within
nice

RTD mentioned he initially wanted Paul back for that purpose but thought it would confuse the viewers and the team were on a tight schedule/budget
cool
No, but I'm hoping they can bring back 8 in November, and have him all old and tired, and then regenerate into John Hurt
Is there any footage of the eighth doctor regenerating into the ninth doctor?
Amazing work, as always. What music did you use?
7th doctor had the worst death
Oh my gammit :3
Oh and 3) sorry if i sound nitpicky but maybe in the future you should consider editing in some of the eighth doctors lines from the audio dramas
:D I was going to give the vid a thing up, but O can't D:

BUT. the 8th never did and up regenerating to the 9th because of the time war doctor played by john hurt in the upcoming 50th anniversary, maybe this was planned all along O_o
