Emiliano a Santalucia, who has been one of my teachers at my local comic school, created that megatron design. It was hung on a wall in one of the classrooms many years ago, and it feels so weird to know that I have looked to a scrapped tfp design basically everyday, without knowing it
An idea is only as good as its execution and while this version does look interesting since it never actually happened we never know what the show could have been like, as far as we now this version could’ve been worse than the prime we got.
It is interesting to see how desperate prime’s rough development and production, it still was able to become one of the best tf shows right up there with animated and beast wars.
Honestly this concept could work as a side story for Earthspark, maybe have T.A.S.K. be a different country's version of Ghost with a different group of Autobots ( like Hot Rod, Slug, Wedge, Blaster, Mach Alert, etc). Maybe have it be basically a Transformers story with the tone of 08th MS team
Frankly, the Aligned continuity just frustrates me as an overall concept, because, admittedly, there was a LOT of potential for great stories and products, and we did get some good stuff, like the Activision Cybertron games, Rescue Bots (FIGHT ME), the Dinobot comics, and Prime (To a lesser extent). Trouble is, there were WAY too many contradictions between the different products. Case-In-Point: Optimus already having the name Optimus in War for Cybertron and earning the title of Prime when he was tasked with purging the Dark Energon from Cybertron’s core, only for Prime to contradict that by saying Orion Pax became Optimus Prime when Cybertron’s core granted him the Matrix. And to top it all off, Hasbro was really wishy-washy about the inconsistency, basically saying, ‘Oh, we’re not really focusing on maintaining a consistent mythology. The Aligned continuity is actually sub-groups of different areas.’ Now, to be fair, this wasn’t entirely Hasbro’s fault. Apparently, the unified vision they had was disrupted by the different creative teams going in different directions. Granted, this vision Hasbro had apparently took a lot of influence from the live-action movies (Make of that what you will), and they weren’t taking any other series into account.
when i first heard of the aligned continuity, I was honestly a little bothered. I thought the WFC game should've been its own standalone continuity (clearly being inspired as a pre-earth G1 continuity), and I think FOC's story and character designs suffered a little having to be crammed into the aligned continuity
I think Rescue Bots was only made a part of the Aligned universe just so there would be less confusion over two Transformers shows airing at the same time, kind of like how the DCAU prevented most Batman characters from appearing in its final years because of The Batman and the Dark Knight Trilogy.
The problem with the aligned continuity is that every crew working on each installment was given free range to the details of their shows and didn't have much interaction with each other.
The thing with that "Sophistication beyond previous series" thing is that it could either be referring to Animated or the broader Transformers TV franchise. The syntax is ambiguous, because there is no distinction between the singular and plural "series". Was that a Shattered Glass Jazz in that collage at 6:09? Weird pull, but I guess that was the closest we'd gotten to a G1 style Jazz up to that point
I actually dig that Ratchet design trying to make the G1 toy's Diaclone windshield-in-front-of-face thing work. Like if you threw a classic white and red color scheme on him it'd look way better, and pair even better with that Ironhide
@@tracytron7162 Dream Wave's War within design for Ironhide also had the windshield over the face concept. It's kind of funny despite a lot of fans vocally saying how much they disliked G1 Ironhide & Ratchet's toy designs, Ironhide & Ratchet will get small references here and there to their origin.
@@R0-83-RT It's because with the G1 toy it doesn't look good or intentional, it just looks lazy and ugly as hell unless you're familiar with their Diaclone origins, but here people are reworking it into something actually intentional and that actually looks good for a sentient autonomous robot
I really dig the early Optimus design here and am glad he still would've been a longnose semi truck (which nowadays I much prefer over the cabover design), but agreed that while that Starscream design is solid, it just wouldn't have fit the take on him TFP eventually went for.
This looks way more cooler than the final result. Ok hasbro dropped the G1 look, because the movies were big money makers. But i think they went with the Bay look, because they could not milk the G1 nostalgia back in 2009 like they are doing nowdays.
Funny enough, i actually chatted with ken christiansen years ago, and i asked if he ever designed ratchet and bumblebee. He said he did ratchet, and his description was that it matches the 2007 design but with more g1 elements, and even using the G1 toy window covering his head. He did do bumblebee, but he wasn't too proud of it, so Emiliano Santalucia (who also designed megatron and optimus' robot mode here) did bumblebee and they primarily used his design... he described it as G1 bumblebee but with sports car mode. So yeah, it's really good to finally see christainsen's ratchet and emiliano's bumblebee designs and they match his descriptions.
I’ve always seen the Aligned continuity like Greek mythology. Stories work on their own and sometimes with others, but when you put them all together they have glaring contradictions.
Still not as bad a typo as the stuff in the first Beast Machines pitch. Somebody needed to get Marv Wolfman something with spell check. Personally I wish they had gotten this Bumblebee. If we never get mute Bumblebee again I'll be a very happy man. An armor themed series would also have been really cool. It's shown up a few times in Energon and Cyberverse, plus Animated Prowl's sidecar and I really like the idea.
If I had to choose one thing from these concepts to be used in the future, it would 100% be the Megatron design. To me it just looks too cool to go completely unused… buuut that’s a bit of wishful thinking on my part.
Those alternate trailers are reminiscent of some gi joe stuff imagine how cool it would be to have all your favorite autobots gathered around a giant orange railgun that folds back into a trailer Way better than the trailers we get with legacy and cyberverse
Leave Legacy’s trailers out of it. Laser Prime/Nemesis Prime/Toxitron have more functionality than the Earthrise mold’s box of nothing and Armada Prime and Motormaster’s trailers can at least combine with them and form decent base modes. There is clear functionality and engineering in mind
Hey, that's the Megatron in Covenant of Primus! I've been wondering for years were that design came from! And I just checked; Optimus and Ironhide are there too. I suppose the "Energon Power" survived in the Voyager "Powerizers" with the light-up weapon/light-piping body gimmick. Come to think of it, it's a little similar to the electronic lights & piping planned for TransTech. As for how the extra trailers (which kinda remind me of a larger-scaled Energon Prime Force; it even has a sub and a drill) could be sold without another Optimus repaint or hauler truck Autobot: sell each with a random character either as the full armor/deployed vehicle or as separate armor components, and advertise the trailer mode (and in the latter case, the full armor mode) as cross-sell interaction. Heck, it could even be a line-wide Autobot gimmick.
So this is what Transformers Prime was originally going to look like,Interesting. I wouldn't mind if the Character designs were carried over into a new Transformers Cartoon.
We dodged a bullet with those old designs. What we got was just so, so much better than these terrible concepts. Starscream is the only one that’s just fine, the rest are atrocious and I’m glad they took the time to develop a better aesthetic than “bayverse but in cartoon form”. Optimus having a trailer could’ve been interesting though.
The Optimus Prime trailers looks for me like some kind of mushup of Transformers Energon Optimus trailer supermode vehicles; drill, submarine, etc. Cool concept tho
I agree with you on this vs. Animated. I really like Prime, but while TFA was a kids show, it definitely was more "sophisticated" than Prime. Being dark does not equal sophisticated. Animated delt with the effects of loss and grief.
This is just a hunch, BUT: where they mention taking influence from a "CW", it's likely that "CW" stands for "Clone Wars". As in _Star Wars: The Clone Wars,_ which was an animated show on Cartoon Network (pre-Disney) that ended up being more of a war story than an adventurous romp. There were tons of moments in that series where you'd look at it and ask "Are we _sure_ the target audience here is children???"
I wonder if CW stood for Clone Wars, as in the Star Wars the Clone Wars cartoon that was airing at the same time. It had premiered around the same time as TF Animated, but was 3D animated, thrilling, and had “edge” like TF Prime. Comparing Clone Wars and Prime reveals a lot of thematic similarities
I, like most of us am glad we got the Prime we did, but I wouldn't say no if they wanted to look to these concepts for a future series in a few years when Earthspark is done. I would say Finished Product Bumblebee looked a lot more movie esque than the concept; Concept!Bee retains the iconic hood chest of G1 Bee, whereas Prime Bee copied the movies with the more generic headlight chest, something they couldn't reconcile with sports car bee until Evergreen/Cyberverse. Also, I could see them doing the trailers for Optimus as a seperate acessory subline, without a figure if they did it at full size, if they wanted to, I could see them doing something similar to one of the 3rd Party Powermaster Optimus toys did since it released the trailer and cab as seperate figures (I think the cab isn't out at time of writing) so to ensure you have the full project, it has a papercraft cab. I'd definately like to see them do more with Optimus having a trailer, he's a truck, it just makes sense As for Ratchet, I agree about everything there, the red and white works better, and using the windscreen as somewhat of a face mask is the perfect way to homage the old toy while making it work, they need to do this for him and/or Ironhide at some point.
4:26 oh dang that’s the cut “TankVehicleMG” or the early neutron Assault Rifle design. Interesting seeing it in something like this. Edit: for those confused on what I mean here’s a video ruclips.net/video/AfcMgt4cNNc/видео.htmlsi=jkanN2GZku3HT_Pv Also it seems that the Energon Battle pistol was an early Null Ray design considering Starscream is holding it on his forearm.
First off, I'm not a fan of TF Animated. I hate the look of the characters, I think it's an absolute perversion of both the autobots and decepticons. So I'm glad a s4 never came out. I honestly like the idea of an optimus prime with a trailer that can become armor or other things. I can't stand a prime with a useless traler like G1 or Earthrise etc. The idea that other figures could use the trailers as well kinda gives me a weaponizer vibe but better. My biggest issue with prime cartoon is bumblebee, the voice box was unnecessary. It was clever for the movie but for prime they could have given a voice instead of making him R2-D2, and yes I went there lol.
I was gonna say that perhaps that "CW" probably referred to any of the DC Arrowverse CW shows, but upon second thought, I remembered that none of the DC Arrowverse shows were likely on air yet at that moment in time. The DCEU wasn't even out yet! Also, I disagree ENTIRELY with your take on the Starscream design, as someone who did not like Prime Starscream's design because I felt it stood out too much against the other G1 derived designs and was too skinny and lanky for my taste, I feel this G1 inspired design would have fit in much better. Also, I remember a lot of people loved the G1 colors redeco of the 07 movie Starscream's toy, so people weren't completely sick of G1 starscream just yet. (I myself am still waiting for hasbro to redeco either Studio Series or MP Movie Starscream in G1 colors) its also worth to note that Starscream's alt-mode is VERY F-22 inspired. Definitely a lot of movie inspiration there. Though not sure if they would have been able to keep that alt-mode design, since Hasbro lost the license to produce F-22 Raptor toys by the time DOTM rolled around (I know that's part of the reason he was killed off in that movie) On a side note, I personally did not like that Arcee was blue. I thought she looked too much like Chromia in blue, and should have been either red, or pink (like the NYCC exclusive figure was) instead, but I will admit, the blue color does make her feel more unique. Especially since she's hailed as the best written version of the character. Also, curiously enough, Arcee is nowhere present in these concepts. Perhaps she was a late addition?
I think this actually proves beyond any reasonable doubt that Prime was never part of the Aligned continuity. The original concept designs we got here are much closer to the designs that were actually in the aligned continuity bible but they basically scrapped all that and did their own thing that deviated from the aligned continuity. I do wish this is actually what we got though because that Megatron is better than the one we got in my opinion. Starscream is LEAPS AND BOUNDS better than the design we got. The only one I really don't like is Ratchet having a closer color scheme to the movie version instead of the G1 colors. I'm actually glad Ratchet was changed to the Prime design we got. Soundwave looks like a combination of RotF Soundwave and a Beast Machines Vehicon I'm not sure I really like either of Soundwave's designs. Bumblebee looks slightly better, kind of similar to his Cyberverse design. Everyone else I don't really have a preference. And that Starscream design is not just a slavish recreation of G1 Starscream. It actually looks like a blend of G1 with the RotF design because you can kind of make out the Cybertronian tattoos on the jet mode, it's not as elaborate in as the actual move design but I can see what they were going for. The robot mode has some similar G1 design ques that make the character actually recognizable as Starscream. That's the kind of thing I want in a Transformers design, do something new with it while still making it somewhat recognizable. It seems like a lot of TF designs lately have either been too much like G1 or so far removed from it that they don't even look like the characters anymore. I don't really like the Prime design we ended up with because it just doesn't look like Starscream and also because the robot mode is so skinny that he doesn't even look threatening. I never bought any of the toys because they all look like they could break in half if I just look at them the wrong way. Soundwave also had this problem a little bit but at least with him the way he's animated using the ground bridge as a weapon makes him far more intimidating even if I'd never believe him as a physical fighter, he's not actually portrayed that way. Starscream however is far more of a physical fighter and it just leaves me questioning how did he kill Cliffjumper so easily? The more bulky concept design I could actually imagine being that physical fighter. The only good thing about Prime Starscream in my opinion is the voice performance and I'm so glad Steve Blum has gotten to play much better versions of the character than the robot slender man. I never liked his design but I have always loved Steve's performance as the character. I kind of over look the design for the most part because the performance is so well done and that takes priority over the design.
@@leviticusprime4904 That I agree with. I fully credit Steve Blum's performance for how good that Starscream was. I just don't like the design. That's why I'm happy he got to voice Starscream again in both RID2015 which I love that design. RID2015 Starscream does a fantastic job of doing something new while still being a homage to the original. It's also based on the Coronation Starscream design with the wide shoulders and the cape but instead of making him actually wear a cape they did something different with his wings to kind of imitate that look while having it all integrated into the design. I love that Starscream. The only way it could have been better is if they actually gave him the crown as well. Cybertron had a crown and no cape. He did always have the crown though I kind of want them to do a Starscream design where the crown is just part of his head sculpt rather than the typical seeker look. I think it'd be fitting for his character to just look like that all the time. And of course he's also the Earth Spark Starscream which is a little TOO much like G1 but they are doing something something different with the character than just repeating the typical over throw Megatron story since Megatron isn't leading the Decepticons anymore he doesn't actually need to. I don't really see this as a different take on the character because I can still see how he has those typical Starscream treats it's just being approached from a different angle because we've never really seen a post war depiction of him... at least not like this. RID2015 I know is technically the same Starscream from Prime just with a different design but it's still nice to hear Steve Blum's voice with a more traditional Starscream design. I love the actor, I love how he's portrayed, it's just the overly skinny robot mode I didn't care for in Prime. There's a particular Decepticon focused episode I can't want to talk about in the Prime episode reviews where Steve Blum's performance was just so good in it the design didn't even bother me. It's one of my favorite episodes of the series. It also helps that it's also a Silas episode and Clancy Brown is another actor who always delivers a fantastic performance.
Bro how are you acting like Prime wasn't more sophisticated than Animated (especially its first two seasons), or that the Aligned continuity just didn't work at all? You literally CAN use the game, the books, and the TV show as one canon, as they intended, and it really WAS kind of a seminal moment for the fandom. Sure there are some discrepancies in specific things but what canon is that NOT true of? Overall I'm happy with what we actually got, but I wouldn't mind seeing some of these designs revisited in the future. I like how powerful and avian Starscream looks here, and Megatron straight up looks like a Hulk. Interestingly, this Ironhide design pretty much made it into the toyline unaltered.
The problem with the aligned continuity was the lack of an attempt for anything to feel connected like how the Nemesis wasn't Trypticon in prime despite it being the opposite in the games, how Megatronous was completely different character in Rid2015 compared to how he was on the covenant of Primus and how Starscream was suddenly in control of deceptions in prime on earth despite being left behind on cybertron in FOC

I'd definately like to see them do more with Optimus having a trailer, he's a truck, it just makes sense
As for Ratchet, I agree about everything there, the red and white works better, and using the windscreen as somewhat of a face mask is the perfect way to homage the old toy while making it work, they need to do this for him and/or Ironhide at some point.
Those exact images of optimus, ironhide and megatron are in the 2013 covenant of primus book.
"CW" is definitely supposed to be Clone Wars
I think there might be something smudged on your camera lens.
While I love TFP, I would gladly replace the new RID with this concept (not as a sequel but as an original series like TFA)…
My guess is CW for Clone Wars
Just turn Optimus and his trailer into Liger Zero😂
Hey, hey. Armada Sideswipe at least looks good in vehicle mode. Can't knock him on that at all. Far better than how Hot Shot looks.
I feel like CW near the beginning could be in reference to the Clone Wars but that may be a stretch
I do recall Miko kissing Jack (surprising both) at the end of the series.
I would have sold the trailer by itself. I mean look at it, it is basically its own toy.
I honor of Ratchet, I must disclose.... TJ Omega is played by Jeffery Combs this episode.
4:26 oh dang that’s the cut “TankVehicleMG” or the early neutron Assault Rifle design. Interesting seeing it in something like this.
Edit: for those confused on what I mean here’s a video ruclips.net/video/AfcMgt4cNNc/видео.htmlsi=jkanN2GZku3HT_Pv
Also it seems that the Energon Battle pistol was an early Null Ray design considering Starscream is holding it on his forearm.
Looks like they leaned more into the Bayverse designs.
I'm really glad they didn't use these designs.
That Soundwave look like something Joe Madureira would have created and thrown into 90s xmen
what's wrong with your camera, dude?
I’ve been hearing of this as well.
I’m confused by Megatron kind of wings on the back
Wonderful discovery
So, were Megatron and Starscream supposed to be bigger than Optimus?
That should’ve came out instead of Earthspark
Though not sure if they would have been able to keep that alt-mode design, since Hasbro lost the license to produce F-22 Raptor toys by the time DOTM rolled around (I know that's part of the reason he was killed off in that movie)
On a side note, I personally did not like that Arcee was blue.
The camara's got an effect on lol
Hey TJ, something’s up with your facecam
11:25 Shia LaBeouf
I think cw is for clone wars series
Cw might be clone wars
So I guess you've never watched a show on the CW channel?
So question was the presentation made by some guys who just wanted to do a series or was it something else?
The character of prime starscream is still great though.
@@leviticusprime4904 Agreed. Prime Starscream is one of top 5 if not top 3 Starscreams ever.
Tbh this would’ve connected the universe better then what we have now sure prime is good but it doesn’t explaines everything
Why does TJOmega look like an animation made by AI?
Interesting
