Yup. Only problem is we rarely get to see them on any form of screen for TV media. Most of if not all of these "obscure characters" I actually would've loved to see episodes for in their respective Transformers continuities. At least bots like Apelinq give us some exceptions and EVENTUALLY get on screen appearances.

TBH the repaint was inevitable but shocking to see nonetheless due to how obscure this character is
I'd love to see more female Beastformers. The IDW design looks really cool, I'd love to see that become her go-to design and to see her pop up more.

So many characters, you will never run out. Sounds like their may need to be a basics on botcon. Akso, I think Powerglide would be good for an episode as well.

I also like the idea that Unicron has heralds, much like Galactus, another world-devouring God-like being.
Now that is a character I would love to see brought into mainstream Transformers media. And the best thing got one of the best villains names ever. Seriously enjoying the selection of characters this December cannot for the last ones. Outstanding work!

There is character from Digimon that always gets killed after a few episodes. It became a meme. Leomon always dies in every Digimon Show. Some characters are just destined to die 😅

It's legit surprise that someone on Hasbro remembered Antagony and decided to dip Legacy Predacon Inferno mold in black.
Considering it's a pretty famous BotCon toy and the ONLY repaint of Beast Wars Inferno, it's not really all that surprising if you bother to think about it.

I'd say Acid Storm is still the most insane case of "Let's bring that rando back up!". Took maybe twenty-five years for him to get a toy (Out of nowhere, to boot), much less name.
@@mrsamaritan6881 A "famous BotCon toy" to hardcore fans maybe, but the majority of the fanbase doesn't keep up with convention exclusives. And given that there have been plenty of legitimate surprises recently, yeah, it's a bit surprising. Maybe not as much as Beast Wars Ravage, but still.
The Legacy Inferno toy was quite good, and Antagony definitely benefited from it
Honestly, of all the Transformers that have boobs for some reason, the art for Antagony makes the most sense. Having the eyes become the boobs actually makes sense, and more well parallels male characters like optimus prime who's windows and grill resembles pecs and abs.

I dont really have any attachment to the character or the toy, but Botcon 98 was my first TF Convention. Being at that script reading with Garry Chalk, David Kaye, Doug Parker, Scott McNeal, Susan Blu, as well as Vince DiCola providing the music was an awesome and fun experience Ill never forget. Unfortunately no recording devices were allowed, so I had to leave my camcorder in the hotel room. I am glad though that yeas later it was uploaded to RUclips to be able to remember the experience.

I love that Antagony is one of those characters that has a different personality in basically every universe she's been in, making it incredibly easy to come up with your own personality for her. Me personally I like to think of her as Infernos sister that was kidnapped along with Cataclysm and Shokaract by the Vok to become supersoldiers for their tests on transformers.
For myself, I always imagined that Antagony was the true Queen that Inferno was supposed to serve, I also imagine more Ant bots, making up a hive of sorts

Hey here's a way to explain in beast wars as tfa way starscream made his clones but with inferno as getting a raw energon crystal stuck in his head which heal him and makes clones of him for the LOYALTY
Antagony also appeared in the Furman written story at the Botcon 2023 custom class.
BotCon ceased being officially-backed after 2016, so any content after that point isn't within the scope of The Basics.

Fun fact about Animated Antagony and Inferno: they might’ve had a bigger role in the original draft of Animated Season 4. The plan was to have Blackarachnia (in Season 1 BW colors) and her Predacon legions act as the primary villains. However, after some Hasbro meddling, the Animated Predacon subplot was reduced to just one episode and a Mini-Con-empowered Megatron was made Season 4’s main villain… you know, before Season 4 was canned outright.
Fact is, there's every chance they might not have even BEEN IN season 4 if it had been made. They (and the BW-colours BA) were invented as repaints for BotCon years after the cancellation, not as part of the actual S4 plans. If they HAD been in it, they certainly wouldnt have looked like this, because they wouldn't have been Waspinator recolours!
He doesn't have enough meat to have his own "basics" video, but I always loved Antagony's rival Cataclysm, the black and purple redeco of Transmetal Cheetor. I feel like he's a woefully underutilized Unicron herald, and I like the notion of the heralds competing for Unicron's favor, rather than the autonomous zombie drones they're usually portrayed as.

Not gonna lie, but the first moment I saw the name of this character in a notification, it made me cringe a little over how awful it sounds.

It's not that surprising to point out.
The design and story, however, sound interesting, but I feel she deserved a less cringey name, though I never grew up with the beast wars era, so I probably wouldn't know better. Her story, at least, does have an interesting premise.
First time I've even heard of this character, too, so thank you for introducing her, Chris. Your videos are both informative and really engaging to listen to.
Anyone remember Hardtop? According to TFWiki, he started off as a sniper in the Transformers: Cybertron toyline (apparently being Swindle's brother), then appeared in a Bayverse comic (who's toy I have), then appeared in Earthspark out of nowhere, as Swindle's brother again, and as the source of Mandroid's first cybernetic alteration. Sounds like a pick for next Obscure Characters Month to me. Funnily enough, my Hardtop toy's right arm broke off a while back. It's like it was foretelling something.
I suddenly see this approach, Antagony being paired with BW Rampage. Two forces that delight in inflicting pain.

Antagony was searching for Unicron’s disembodied life force buried deep under Earth? She was looking for Angomois Energy? That or Dark Energon.

Hello there Chris and fellow Transformer fans. I do apologize for the tardiness of my comment. However, I have been a bit busy with work and other things, when this video was posted. Anyways, I just wanted to say that this video dealing with this obscure Transformer character was absolutely amazing. To be honest I never really heard of this character before and I found this information about her to be really incredible, especially since we got her whole history in this wonderful spotlight video.

Note learned: Antagony is either a dark herald under mind control, or a friendly under mind control. Glad I can maybe imagine her as a good guy, because let's face it, the "iconic" female Autobots are slim. It'd be cool to see her actually be on the good team for once, yeah?
honestly, I really didn't expect this much information on this obscure character. I only knew her from the animated almanac.
In my school vr game, Antagony was a prisoner of ghosts, but during the break out, she tried to kill megatron but was stopped but was let go after Mandroid tried to control her like Terran Hastag ultimately she, escaped and whipped out the archamechs of Mandroid offscreen and its comfirm in a CTOSAR data recovery in the ruins of facility Grimlock

I knew antagony was a botcon exclusive, but I didn’t know the background of the character. I always love learning new things about transformers. It’s not much I don’t know

Never heard of her, but she's got a great design. Hopefully there'll be a toy based more closely on her original design, rather than being an Inferno recolor.
I'm so greateful for comic books and their additions to Transformers continuities. As much as I do enjoy any Megatrons as "mainstay" villain characters, comic books help flesh out their worlds and make them feel more alive. Especially when we get to hear about other characters and their power plays to conquer Cybertron on their own like Shokaract and Antogony. It helps remind us there are in fact more than one evil being out in the universe with plots and agendas of their own.
The only downside to that is deep lore comic book stuff like that is usually exclusive to comic books and we rarely get to see any of it on screen, TV or movies. Unfortunately, as much as I do appreciate the lore and story we get from them, I just don't have the time of day to collect and read comic books.
I just picked up this figure because I was genuinely intrigued with them but later after I bought it I found out she was female and me being a massive fan of the story of how Female Transformers and how they came to be I absolutely love that about her even more and I appreciate this video learning all about her Hope we see her in the Next Transformers Movie

Never underestimate the ant! I heard it said that if ants were given the ability to generate nuclear weapons, they'd end the world in a week, but hearing the story of Antagony for myself, it might just turn into a world of pain. I wouldn't be surprised if someone reinvents her with a more seductive side, for I've heard it said that pleasure and pain go hand in hand. One thing's for sure though, if you don't surrender to Antagony, this ant is gonna make you say "uncle".

Strange to think in hindsight of the alternate head on the new figure. That the TM -Inferno- Scavenger figure didn't receive an Antagony redeco.
