Skies of Arcadia - Part 5 - Perfectly Executed
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 29 апр 2024
- Skies of Arcadia continues, as we interrupt my dad's execution, jump on top of a moving train, and generally act incredibly badass, right up to the point where Lord Galcian shows up. Then running away suddenly seems like a better idea.
Skies of Arcadia is tragically completely unavailable to purchase on any currently existing store, and was also never released on PC. If you want to play it yourself, your options are the GameCube and Dreamcast versions, which were the only releases. Sorry.

Jon sounds so cheerful when he reads the villain monologue about destroying everything in their path
We could almost say that he does that in every citybuilder he plays, hmm...
He is British, it comes naturally to him
@@LillyP-xs5qe can’t argue with that
You can hear the grin on his face :P
*fails to figure out how to make a british empire joke*
Okay I'm legitimately surprised that we didn't go the route of "Sure Marco, you can sail with us."
Or that he didn´t pop out of a box after, smuggling himself out.
It looks like the Executioner's armour follows the rich/poor motif too, the side facing the rich people being more decorative, and the side facing the poor having all the spikes and whatnot.
Jon wondering how they're planning to execute the pirates while a giant axe-wielding man named "Executioner" is standing by is peak zero perception.
Jon. Jon never changes.
Check your own perception dude. For one there's three different stands that prisoners are being lead to for execution so the exocutioner would have to walk to three different ones for no reason when there could just be one if he were doing it himself. Secondly there's not a lot of room to stand on top of these platforms to get a good swing at the head with that axe. Seriously I don't see a good place for him and I doubt the devs just didn't think of that. Lastly you can clearly see what the Blue Rogues are being lead up to is some kind of guillotine device, check it out while paused at 1:42. Those scissor looking things look like they were made to fall straight down exactly were someone's neck would be. Man I love when people make fun of Jon and aren't even correct themselves. Literally could have just made fun of how it took him 20 years or so to notice how the crowd was divided between rich and poor, something I noticed right away.
This is why I like Galcian, he's not an idiot. He knows Vyse and Aika are in the city, he knows you're there for one of two reasons: Dyne and the other air pirates or Fina. He knows you already freed one but he still holds the other, so where the hell else are you going to go? Right into his men. Also, credit to Vyse for knowing he's overmatched and not just rushing Galcian.
You can actually fight him on the train and it's a real battle. But he's like level 60 with end game magic haha. If you cheat and beat him, Vyse's feet get glitched into the train and you can't move or continue haha
@@katieheys3007 I was wondering what would happen if you beat him.
@@katieheys3007 Has nobody ever beat him legit? I'm sure people will have tried lol
(21:13) Only then did Teodora realize that when Galcian was saying "As you wish", what he really meant was "I love you."
i like how fina just fell over as that battle started
I'll give you tons of credit, you are playing extremely well. I usually ignore weapon type because I'm focusing on maxing spells of each character. It's fascinating seeing how easy stuff is when you match your weapon color properly. We're just getting started and I love this series. Thank you for doing it.
I don't want to know how many times I've played this game, as the number is probably terrifyingly high, but at least it hopefully shines through in knowing the mechanics!
@@ManyATrueNerd It really does! I've played this game to 100% completion 4 or 5 times. We probably have a roughly similar knowledge base for this game, so I'm looking forward to you doing some of the fights I know can get a little dicey. I'll be especially excited if you use tactics I never thought of.
@@ManyATrueNerd Jon, you truly are the infinite chimpanzee typing out Shakespeare of our time.
After watching (or rather listening to) Jon read all of the dialogue so far, I'm liking the idea of him doing an audiobook - except with classic Jon tangents included! 😃
"In a hole in the ground, there lived a hobbit."
'Cocking hell, I love this opening. I think it's my favourite opening except for Moby Dick. Anyway...'
"Not a nasty, dirty wet hole..."
Etc. 😂
That would be interesting.
"I made sure to not be spoiled online, so this is my blind reading of Percy Jackson."
Between the Empress being named Teodora, a coliseum with executions, and the purple everywhere, there's a lot of parallels between the Valuan Empire and Byzantine Empire. The only difference is the Valuans have flying battleships.
Are you sure the Byzantines didn't have flying battleships?
So the guy obsessed hunting a creature the size of a small island, and who only takes you to Valua so that he can get a new super-weapon, is now helping you track down the control mechanism for island destroying super-weapons?
0:58 that one dude doing a glitchy break dance in the corner of the stands
If the company were to rerelease the game, the ad campaign could just feature Vyse. No text, no anything, just Vyse standing there. Just an Ad Vyse.
_angry upvote_
no
_yes_
How could you? Get out! GET OUT OF HERE!!
I would love if; after the big speech about helping, that Deachma just goes
"So like.... You *are* using my ship. Do I get compensation?"
What is Vyse's title at the end of this? I guess that freeing important prisoners under the nose of imperial guards with the while city watching, performing a daring rescue from a moving train, and escaping the chase with no casualties would make him a hero... But maybe the pirates are difficult to impress.
the dramatic reading is ..DELIGHTFUL
Jon, I did a disservice before by asking for The Legend of the Dragoon. Though an interesting and fun JRPG, outside of it's combat mechanics, there isn't much original about it. It operates like a classic JRPG.
Instead, I'd like to turn your attention to Suikoden I & II, which currently has a Steam page for a TBD release for a remastered collection of the first two games. More information:
Suikoden is a cult classic. In it's prime before digital sales, Suikoden II especially went for over $600 for a classic playstation copy.
It has VERY unique gameplay, featuring a SIX PERSON party system, extremely interesting magic and spells, positioning for your party that plays a role in what they can do (nothing like Skies of Arcadia), and most importantly: WARTIME COMBAT WITH ROCK, PAPER, SCISSORS BATTLE MECHANICS THAT PUT YOUR REBEL ARMY AGAINST THAT OF THE EMPIRE.
The story has it's own overarching plot, but the main goals of the game are to "Collect the 108 Stars of Destiny". Which means, that's right Jon, this game has ONE HUNDRED AND EIGHT PLAYABLE CHARACTERS.
As far as ANY JPRG goes, INCLUDING Chrono Trigger, no game is as ahead of it's time as Suikoden. Though I have personally only played and 100%'d the first game, the second game is regarded as EVEN BETTER THAN THE FIRST. I have a feeling this would be perhaps one of the greatest series you could ever play on your channel. It is most definitely a game that needs more recognition.
Oh, and did I mention? YOUR PROGRESS IN THE FIRST SUIKODEN COULD BE PORTED OVER TO SUIKODEN II. THIS WAS A GAME ON THE ORIGINAL PLAYSTATION.
Yeah, That Ramirez and Galcion totally aren't going to overthrow an empire... Suuuuure.
If this is a proper 2000s game than it telegraphs the plot a mile ahead of itself every time :)
I don’t realize how big this game is! I’ve never gotten this far, I’m so excited for more
My new favorite series :)
Loving the Series so far.
I was honestly a little surprised that Vyse didn't just grab Marco and take him along with them.
it's cool watching your play this. This was absolutely one of my favorite rpgs on the dreamcast and then gamecube.
Drackma has a name with a leading joke. It's wonderful.
God I am loving this series so much, thanks for getting to this Jon!
Love the series, great fun watching you play older games from consoles i never had hahaha
Buttons are just the steampunk version of zips on fake pockets.
The Executioner’s helmet looks like a screaming duck.
That or a goose. Or a Krogan
Buttons are to skies what zips are to Kingdom Hearts!
im really loving this series, its so fun so jon play a game he's super passionate about :3
I've been watching some Spiff videos lately too and at first I've read the title as 'perfectly balanced' and was like 'wait what???'
Been waiting to long for this part.
I love this series.
I'm so happy this is a series!
Oh man, I wish we spent more time in Valua, seems like a very interesting setup for a city
"And Drackma can give this guy a taste of a tackle"
I think it would be fun to end or start each episode with Vyse's title progress!
Ah, yes. Enrique. With the badonkadonk. But this was more a Galcian episode, as far as that goes outside the MCs. So you can't forget that 'Men Rock!' and 'We are Thousands of Feet in the Air'.
Loving this series so damn much
It's ripped, it's sorted, let's paintball!
Loving the series ❤❤❤❤
I've been looking into our turnips problem Jon. Turns out turnips like a sunny spot and grow best in cool conditions, in fertile, moisture-retentive soil.
One of the things I wait for 😊
I hope we get full playthrough
vyse is a bit tall for a galacian trouper
I feel like the silver Civilization should have sent more people on this mission
You know, it always bugged me how Vyse had anime protagonist powers and pretty much took control of Drachma's ship away from him.
I remember loseing this battle at first .... But i handled it like a true man ..... Spent the next 2 hours killing random things got like 5 levels then came back and won
How did I not play this game. Its great.
Jon, I'm loving skies of arcadia. I've never played it
I wanted your opinion on if I should watch your series first or start playing myself as well while watching.
15:17 Marco looks like he's got a bit of a mustache here.
Oh, so the harpoon gun is like the Yamato's wave-motion gun? Got it
On and off for 20 years, I've been wondering why the Executioner is twice as big as every other human in the game. Did I miss the dialogue hidden somewhere that Valua employs ogres as their executioners?
the title made me so nervous i almost didn't want to click! i didn't want to see vyze lose his dad!
Some of that cardboard crowd have a bit of a flickering problem.
I thought maybe Galcian was going to be someone you could talk round, maybe find he's more loyal to the reasonable-seeming Enrique than the empress herself, but then I heard his evil kaugh at 32:42.
That doesn't sound hopeful 😅
Edit - also, so we get some background on Fina and it seems she's not from any moon at all. I'm not entirely clear why she was unfamiliar with how the world worked though... are the survivors of the Silver Civilization maybe just very reclusive, hiding from the world?
This game feels very Studio Ghibli in a way.
I haven't watched the fights closely yet and just noticed, that Vyse holds his left cutlass thingy like a tonfa by the hand guard. It's mildly infuriating
LOL. I wasn’t totally paying attention (desperately trying to fix the fact that somehow my Fo4 game got updated even tho I set it to only update when launched thru Steam, so my game is dead) I thought Jon said Fina was from the “Silva” people and was like, “she’s Portuguese?” If you’re Portuguese you get it 😂
We really need a Steam release of this game......
My #1 favorite RPG. Bring on the coolest airship in the world. And if you are taking requests, Legend of Zelda Wind Waker, please.
Executioner used Tackle.. It was very effective
Also,, where the heck did Dyne hide that moonstone? Do i even want to know??
Hot tip. You can’t beat Galcian… yet.
FINA MAGIC SMASH!!!
Is the executioners helmet supposed to look like a chicken with a mohawk and a giant open mouth? Thats all I can see when looking at him
Let's gooooo
Lets goooo
As for who cleaned up the island... id guess it was the women, Jon.
😊
Sometimes the dialogue is absolutely Lucas.
Good afternoon Relationship!
Star Control date 0079!!
A new day, a new (exceedingly humble) request for Jon to play Star Control 2.
No extra fluff here. It is, and ever-shall-be, his favorite game - regardless of whether or not he knows it.
TYVM and GB
I'm still waiting for the part that makes this game better than FFVII.
Day 90 of requesting _Age of Mythology_ (a full playthrough if possible)
If I had a nickel for every JRPG that included a resistance cell fighting an evil empire on a floating city that had a train for some reason, I'd have at least two. That's just the start though - my final fantasy is to have at least seven.
Entry 579 of let’s make Jon fully play the original Command and conquer
Love how Jon’s finds the cardboard audience right after he mentioned his dad about to be executed and sounds soo excited about it all.
Entry 580 of let’s make C&C get on the channel
581 of asking for C&C 95
582 of Tiberium Jon the stuff is delicious
583 of let’s Do C&C 95
584 of 1230 of asking for C&C
Entry 16 of requesting Jon play Okami HD
Day 105/1230 of requesting Jon play a game nobody will remember, like Majesty: A Fantasy Kingdom Sim.
