Nice trick with dragon shores there, you tricky devil you. I used to play this game all the time. It was fun watching this runthrough again. Well done!
I miss playing this with my mom, brother and sister ever since i was like 2 years old. So much fun, this game is who made me the person i am today. Love you guys
i got so mad from watching this , this game represented my childhood and i never knew about those glitch... must download in ps3..if ever it comes there :) nice vid
Make sure to check out Pac-Man World and Klonoa if you haven't already as well. They're quality platformers that still hold up today. Especially Klonoa. I'm pretty sure his game is on the PSN store.
53:10 Whaaaaat?! I thought that picking up the gears on the track didn't work and you had no choice but to do it on the trolley O_o Well, that will certainly make things easier whenever I get to play this game again XD I gotta say, the glitches and shortcuts you use are pretty clever and cool, and I never even thought of 'em even in the 18 years I've had the game lol
Once on the trolley, you need to get 50 gears to get off without crashing into something and respawning all gears. That Fisher dude will give you the orb if and only if you have gathered all the gears before talking to him. With these 2 sets of condition, you can gather that you either need to get all the gears on foot, or none on foot and all on the trolley in order to get the orb. It's very specific, hence the potential confusion, but it isn't a problem to achieve if you are careful around the trolley.
In 2 HOURS??? ...wow, this makes my time spent on the game in my childhood look noobish in comparison. But well, I also was only like 7 or 8 years old when I played it ...well done anyway though :)
PurpleKT Or course, I also had other things to focus on in my childhood: Like the fact that the correct gradation of the adjective "funny" is either "funniest" or "more funny", depending on the sentence, and in this case it should be "most fun" experience ;)
I googled this. "Funnest" can be used as an actual adjective and i used it properly. Although i understand what you mean because people are still arguing today about it. At worst its an argot, not a grammatical error.
PurpleKT well, people use all kinds of wierd words now a days, and when some of which are used enough by a sufficient amount of people, they get written down in a dictionary. Don´t think this is the case with "funnest" though. "Most fun" or "funniest" are by far the most normal.
OMG you bypassed the whole "trouble with the trolley eh?" that I've probably heard more than 200 times. Watching this video makes me satisfied and pissed-off all at once. You the real MVP. I have two questions though, (not sure if you're playing this on an emulator or an actual console) how are you able to have your flame travel so far, & it looks as if you can jump a little higher than normal? Is this a glitch or just some sort of technique you've mastered? Anyways thanks for sharing mate 👌🏽
As far as I know, the flame thing and the jump thing are both just different techniques that are used on the original PSx versions of the game. (at least, that's what I've been able to figure out based on what I've seen and what I remember from playing the original game)
back in the day I used to wish avalar was a real planet. like with all the portals, enemies, and gems and stuff. I thought that would've been the coolest thing ever. too bad I'm stuck on earth 😒
jason adams Gateway to Glimmer is just the PAL title. Ripto's Rage is as much of an official release as it's PAL counterpart. The reason why they changed the name between regions escapes me, but it certainly isn't because this version was Beta. In fact, the PAL version got released only 3 days after the NTSC version (Nov. 5 vs 2, 1999).
At 50:40 you double jump onto the portal of Breeze Harbor. I've been trying to replicate this jump but can't figure it out. Any tips? Do you have to get a walking start?
A walking start is not required but helps a lot. You need to glide a little bit against the wall when doing the jump, otherwise it won't take you up on the portal. It's really hard to explain, but those tips are the ones I used to get it the first time. Then, all you need is to know what works for you and replicate it.
As a matter of fact, it is possible to play this game on PS3, as well as PSP, PSVita and PSTV ;) This was played on PS2, though. I'll most likely use PSTV for my future runs of this game.
How did much did you have to play to figure out all those glitches? Or is there a website where people post glitches they find accidentally and you just went in an used all of them and planned out how to do it the fastest?
Great run! But the Canyon Speedway time attack could have been better by at least fifteen seconds (I do it rams, rings, vultures, cars and I shoot cars when doing rams or vultures sometimes)
lantern26 It´s so long time since I played it, but I recall replaying the whole game a few years ago, being a little nostalgic and I think it was something like pressing the jump button (x) and then the square button twice really fast ;) I discovered this trick when youtube started becoming popular, so in my childhood I actually never knew about it either... kinda funny how a perspective can change on a simple game over the years. But one thing is sure, this was my absolute favorite game when I was little! :)
I tried to do this myself, I have semi figured out the flame charge technique, but still haven't mastered it, I can't hit like more than one XD, but I one time took longer on glimmer with it than without it once, trust me, it's not easy at all to do any of this :P the game I have closest got to a good speedrun was sonic 1, but that was a childhood game I have practiced like 100 times now, keep speeding speedruners...except when driving, than don't.
DrQuell11 This is an old run, back when you couldn't complete some levels 100% before getting the Headbash ability and before there was a way to get the Headbash ability early. The levels that you claim aren't fully completed are revisited later into the run to clear them before fighting Ripto.
That's just something that was introduced in one of the Spyro games (not sure if this is the first one it was implemented in, as I never played the PS1 version of Spyro 1)
Nitrofski I'm not sure what you're talking about there, but isn't it cheating when you jump up on the boundaries and clip through the terrain at the start of the first level? I don't know anything about speedruns but that seems like cheating to me.
@@AegisShroud Glitching/using the levels in this way is generally seen as different than cheating, as Glitching/using the levels in this way actually uses the level as it is designed and not introducing anything external into the game (cheat codes introduce things to the game that aren't supposed to be there, glitching and clipping doesn't introduce that - it uses the game as it was designed in order to exploit the game so it can be beaten a certain way). Having said that, I have seen a small group of people who believe that doing what was done in this video is cheating, due to the player not playing the game as it was intended - but that is a very small group. I can only speak for myself here when I say that I believe that this is not cheating, due to Nitrofski using what was implemented in the game, and cheat codes were not used in order to make things appear in the game when they weren't supposed to be there. I just see what was done in this video as exploiting the system, not necessarily cheating. The game was designed this way in order to save space on the original discs, and these work-arounds were programmed into the game - therefore, in my opinion, not cheating. But, I can see where some of the people who see this as cheating are coming from.
For as long as I can remember, speedrun never disallow the use of Glitches. Also, what is harder? Playing the game as it was intended to be played, or playing the game defying what was defined as possible? In my opinion, the latter is harder. Some glitches DO make the game easier: the double-Jump for instance, if the player only uses it for jumps that are normally possible anyway, but a lot of the jumps that are double-jump exclusive are actually harder to perform that normally possible jumps. I get your point, but nobody speedruns "Glitchless" categories seriously nowadays, because they are not as interresting to watch as a speedrun of a game that has been broken to bits.
Nitrofski Actually after reading this and watching it again I have to say you changed my mind. It does take a lot of skill to do some of those glitches. That's a very fair point that you made.
Glad I changed your mind :) Feel free to come by twitch.tv and watch some live attempts at this game ;) Some guys out there are really outstanding (More than I'll ever be for sure)
Indeed, yet there is a more recent run on my channel that is not 5 years old. And it's bad too. By the way, for its time, this was nearly world record. Oh, and everything I just mentioned here (and even the fact that I "messed up quite a lot" as you yourself stated) is either annotated on the video or in the description. ... ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I guess Spyro was right when he said "Give Ripto the old hotfoot and be in Dragon Shores by lunchtime."
that made me laugh so hard for some reason, good job XD
everytime i heard this when i played i was like "he'll be waiting for lunchtime for a long time"
I miss this game, there is something in the spyro world that is magnificent
then you should be more than happy that there is a remake
awwwe my mom just passed by while i was watching this and she recognized it!
"ah that game still exists?"
i m so happy that she remembers hahah
seeing someone speed run my childhood is fucked. love it man u got skill
You had me impressed when you beat that f^%$#@* ice hockey mini-game in less than MANY HOURS.
I kick butt at Spyro 3's skate parks, just like my mom did.
This guy had absolutely _zero_ trouble with the trolley.
2 hours... we were children and we use to play it for months over and over
over and over and over again. But what a wonderful game
dude, ur a bloody legend. i beated this game like in 6 hours , but still not with 100%.. respect and hands down too u m8.
Nice trick with dragon shores there, you tricky devil you. I used to play this game all the time. It was fun watching this runthrough again. Well done!
You're playing so smartly and you kept the correct aspect ratio (4:3). I give you thumbs up sir!!!
Spyro and Crash bandicoot on PS1 was 34% of my entire childhood
It was so satisfying watching you burn down those kangaroos in mystic marsh.
I miss playing this with my mom, brother and sister ever since i was like 2 years old. So much fun, this game is who made me the person i am today. Love you guys
Thoroughly enjoyed this, thank you.
I played there when I was little. Thanks for the Speedrun, I really appreciated it !
i got so mad from watching this , this game represented my childhood and i never knew about those glitch... must download in ps3..if ever it comes there :)
nice vid
It's on PSN
thank you GOD you have answered me

Yeah it's on PSN for $5.99, I'm planning on getting a PlayStation card tonight so I can buy it. So happy it's available. I'm in tears :')
Great job man one in my top 3 favorite games of all time and you did things i didnt know were possible haha
Well played through out the game it takes patience to complete games like this, thanks for upload :-)
Nice run, man! I'm so glad that I've found your video. Now it's time to practice those move sets - skips - ! Congratz! 🤘😎
Man, this brings some memories. Great job
You sir are a badass
this took my weeks as a kid!!!
This is strangly addictive and satisfying. Especially when hes cutting through Cloud Temples.
46:45-46:49 lol fail.
Wow, this brings back so many memories, and 100% in only 2 hours? Amazing. Great video!
you know a game is really good is when it was released in the 90s and it still looks good in current times
man did i play this game wrong
I still have this so glad i kept it and my very old ps1
Good game, good run, good day, good fun!
This Spyro game has the best music
Huh, nostalgia? Is dat you? I'm only 12 3/4....man I love this game! So many great memories!
I just watched completly

Second level use to crack me up so much when I was little, I just look back and think. "What the hell..? I can see why I loved this game so much."
In 2 HOURS??? ...wow, this makes my time spent on the game in my childhood look noobish in comparison. But well, I also was only like 7 or 8 years old when I played it ...well done anyway though :)
I beat this game when i was 3 or 4. Funnest experience i ever had.

51:15 man, that's the hardest part of the game, i did it so many times, raged so much, and you just glitched it out.
I feel raped

Spyro looks very angry in the game. Maybe because he wanted to go on vacation but he’s saving the world.
back in the day I used to wish avalar was a real planet. like with all the portals, enemies, and gems and stuff. I thought that would've been the coolest thing ever. too bad I'm stuck on earth 😒
Micah Bettis Bro, same. I used to wish there could be a place full gems and even imagined how cool would orbs be if i could have one.
Probably would've been a hastle to carry all that stuff though 😂
All time favorite game right here.
Would it not be quicker to get the glimmer talisman first time around
Man o miss tho GAM so much my favorite game to life
I need to get this game again. I noticed the PAL version is available now on PSN. Nice run btw!
best game ever el mejor juego de infancia
10/10 if this came out for the vita it'd be great to play this game on the go
Richard, a Watterson It DID come out for Vita... on the EU store... NTSC version. I actually currently use PSTV whenever I play this game or Spyro 3.
ripto's rage was the beta version of the game its final release it had a name change to spyro 2 gateway to glimmer
jason adams Gateway to Glimmer is just the PAL title. Ripto's Rage is as much of an official release as it's PAL counterpart. I did play Sypro 2 about 15 years ago when I was 8 years old.
After the credits it opens a new world, i can't find it in any video's
Wow ... THAT is a game from my childhood :D
At 50:40 you double jump onto the portal of Breeze Harbor. I've been trying to replicate this jump but can't figure it out. Any tips? Do you have to get a walking start?

YES i got it! Thanks for the tips bro, very nice run by the way
SPYRO... RAGAZZO MIO... HO UN PISELLO MAGICO...
40:58 lol poor spyro love this game played it all the time .
Ey, nice video, this was my favourite videogame when I was a child, I think that I had 7 years old. Where did you play it, PSX, PS2 or PC emulator ??
I'm pretty sure back then it was only PS1/PS2, I doubt much has changed.
As a matter of fact, it is possible to play this game on PS3, as well as PSP, PSVita and PSTV ;) This was played on PS2, though.
I'll most likely use PSTV for my future runs of this game.
Strange that I remember every level from Spyro, almost everything from Spyro 3, but I'm struggling to recognize anything from this video.
The only two original Spyro games for my PS2 was this and Year of the Dragon.
I was probably seven when I had both games.
Good work keep it up and you'll be the best. :)
How did much did you have to play to figure out all those glitches? Or is there a website where people post glitches they find accidentally and you just went in an used all of them and planned out how to do it the fastest?
Good job
Great run!
But the Canyon Speedway time attack could have been better by at least fifteen seconds (I do it rams, rings, vultures, cars and I shoot cars when doing rams or vultures sometimes)
you're using a maneuver that i don't know how to perform. (the one where you get extra jump height)
can someone make a tutorial for these kind of tricks and how they work?
lantern26 It´s so long time since I played it, but I recall replaying the whole game a few years ago, being a little nostalgic and I think it was something like pressing the jump button (x) and then the square button twice really fast ;) I discovered this trick when youtube started becoming popular, so in my childhood I actually never knew about it either... kinda funny how a perspective can change on a simple game over the years. But one thing is sure, this was my absolute favorite game when I was little! :)
did you play this as a PS3 download from PSN or on a PS1 disc? And was it the PAL version?
I played this on an original PS1 NTSC disc, on the PS2 console.
you're hardcore gamer
i have two questions 1 why was he pausing the game. 2 how did he get the infinite fireballs please answer my questions
whatever it was the fireball thing was amazing
your the man nice run i like your style
Hurricos is always going to be my favorite level! =)
Realy enjoyed this speedrun I would love to try this some day
Holy shit. Robotica Farms was flawless.
Outstanding :)
How do u do charge flamed? I can't do this. :/
Why didn't you use the theater bug?
Muy favourite game !
how did you memorize all of this. by playing everyday of your life or are you a genius?
I didn't think that there was a glitch there. It never occurred to me that I should try that trick. I am a poor excuse for a diehard Spyro fan.
I am also a diehard spyro fan but after seeing those glitches( which i didnt know some) I judge myself cuz i dont feel like a diehard fan anymore :((
Abdülkadir Kotil I've gotten over my shame. Yo can, too.
some levels are not fully completed
DrQuell11 This is an old run, back when you couldn't complete some levels 100% before getting the Headbash ability and before there was a way to get the Headbash ability early. The levels that you claim aren't fully completed are revisited later into the run to clear them before fighting Ripto.

That's just something that was introduced in one of the Spyro games (not sure if this is the first one it was implemented in, as I never played the PS1 version of Spyro 1)
I'm guessing you can't use the square circle cheat to get all the moves in a speed-run
Exactly. That would be cheating and the run would not be valid.
Nitrofski I'm not sure what you're talking about there, but isn't it cheating when you jump up on the boundaries and clip through the terrain at the start of the first level? I don't know anything about speedruns but that seems like cheating to me.
Nitrofski Man, I played this game a hell of alot when I was younger.

this game was the fuckin all time bestest in the wholest widest world
someone should do speed run with fireball glitch
Awesome
great job hockey part 2
LET'S GET SPEEEED ON YEAH😃😃😃😄😄😄😎😀😀
does anyone have a clock on how much time you spend in the game watching them make talismans and give you orbs?
This would be so much more enjoyable to watch without the glitches though...

hi!
I'd be impressed but speed runs were originally intended to be the faster non-cheating player. You just glitched everything. That's not skill :/
If glitching isn't skill, what can't you do it?
Nitrofski That comment was pure Poetry...
Nitrofski Actually after reading this and watching it again I have to say you changed my mind. It does take a lot of skill to do some of those glitches. That's a very fair point that you made.

Pretty bad run tbh, you messed up quite a lot.
Indeed, yet there is a more recent run on my channel that is not 5 years old. And it's bad too.
By the way, for its time, this was nearly world record.
