@@kenrickkahn oh yea Steiner was clearly past his prime here and had sacrificed almost all in ring mobility for size. Watching Steiner fall over on his own accord was very sad.
Steiner at this stage is a natural heel. He didn't even have tweener charisma like Austin. He was just an unrelenting prick. Nowadays he is ironically a total face because his character is so ridiculous and Steiner has stopped being a mark for himself and has leaned into his ridiculousness. But Steiner in 2002 was poor foil as a "fight from underneath babyface" for Triple H.
I just watched wcw casually at the end, but could see Poppa Pump was a bona-fide superheel. Maybe as a face he could have gotten over against someone like Jericho, but Hunter was also in that superheel category. Too similar, Jericho is better as a heel but at his core he is a massive babyface. That will always shine through no matter the alignment. Steiner and Hhh will always be heels.

It was nice to see Scott Steiner back in the WWE in the early 2000's, but you can tell that his stamina and endurance level wasn't the same anymore for him. The man still has a very solid physique.
My favorite part about this whole feud was the night after the rumble. Steiner challenged Hunter to a rematch and Hunter pulled out a doctors note. I go back and rewatch that promo all the time
As someone with nerve damage from my back that drop foot from his back injury is a pretty significant injury to deal with. It's amazing he was able to do much at all.
Scott got too big while recovering from injury. He lost his athleticism. Even his punches are so, so slow. He looked great, but he couldn't move. Very sad, because Steiners in mid 90s WCW were exceptional.
it's a complete and total waste by him. he was already a massive dude. adding more size did absolutely nothing but make him look like a freak. Scott's 2003 return to WWE was in trouble from the start. He was battling injuries and clearly out of wrestling shape. This showed in his Royal Rumble match against Triple H. Plus, the Big Poppa Pump character works better as a heel as opposed to a babyface, at least in my opinion. And it didn't help that is return happened during the infamous Triple H reign of terror from 2002 to 2005. I think it's safe to say that is first run in WWF in 1993 was a little better than his second. At least in his first run, he was a tag team champion with his brother Rick and the two won their match at Wrestlemania IX. Sadly, it's one of two matches (Shawn Michaels vs Tatanka being the other) worth watching.
He really should have been placed on Smackdown. Kurt could have gotten better matches out of him and worked around his injury. He also could have continued working as a heel, but alas he went to RAW and was a part of the Reign of Terror.

I lived through the attitude area and HHH was never over or as big of a star as they try to portray him as. He basically rode on Shawn Michaels and Stephanie’s coat tails.
And you are forgetting New Age Outlawz as well. HHH brought them into DX. When they were clearly over with the fans which made DX popular by association.
That's a damn lie, and HHH was a Devious heel 99 percent of the time during the attitude era he wasn't supposed to be liked he supposed to be hated and he achieve that. Dude was wwe champion before steph and kept DX relevant and elevated it more when Shawn left and elevate the rock and Austin careers when they had a rivalry. Just because you don't like HHH doesn't mean he wasn't over or as liked.
@@jacobtrimble4329 Like Cornette has stated, HHH was the guy who fought with the guy who drew the money. People were watching for the person who HHH was fighting against i.e. Stone Cold,Rock, Mankind,Taker....
I recently seen a video from WWE remenbering the Attitude era, and was embarrasing listening to HHH putting himself over with the likes of Austin, Rock and Taker. Helmsley is delusional using the WWE to rewrite history and put himself in an much higher spot in wrestling history. Attitude Era was about Stone Cold Steve Austin as the top dog who led wrestling into a new era. Second they will come Rock and Taker. And later, another bunch of relevant names of this era, like Kane, Mick Foley and HHH himself along with his DX faction. But he was not even close to Stone Cold level
Two things: First, Scott Steiner would've worked far better as a heel; the gimmick is nothing but heel all over. Secondly, HHH was absolutely spot on in that last interview segment; people who don't make it and/or marks for the people who don't make it always have to find someone or something else to blame. Locus of attribution.
Wrestlemania 19 should have featured a match were HHH and Steiner attempted to tie their own shoes. Of course HHH would have blown his hamstrings and Steiner would have roid raged the ref so it would have been a draw.
I think the fan reaction towards Steiner was clearly a territorial WCW vs WWF thing. The same thing happened with Goldberg, who came in as a face to defeat The Rock; fans were fine with him beating up mid carders but they didn’t want to see their WWF main event heroes to lose clean to a WCW star. The WWF had publicly told their fans for years to hate WCW so they were hardly going to suddenly take kindly to this. Sting was a bit different as it was so long after the WCW war finished, that fans started to look at the promotion differently and not see it as any threat (the WWE started to promote old WCW content too, acknowledging it was actually good!)
Goldberg got booed because The Rock was crazy popular and the match sucked because Goldberg sucked. This was also after Goldberg stunk it up with Brock at WrestleMania. People just didn't think Goldberg deserved to beat the rock.
@@filho4437 Goldberg beat The Rock at Backlash '03 (this was originally meant to be for WM19 but he wasn't signed in time) and his disaster match with Lesnar was a year later at WM20.

Steiner was well past his prime during this stint. It seemed like fans were excited initially, but then they saw through the holes of his current move set & lack of conditioning. The pose down was great comedy
I have the day off today and my wife is off with friends and I wanted you to know that I chose your videos to binge watch in my free time today. Thank you! 😻
Scott Steiner was out of his element at this time. Physically, he was breaking down and getting past his prime. He was also not the same Scott Steiner from WCW that fans wanted to see. They wanted the madman Big Poppa Pump, not a bland babyface. I love Scott Steiner but he was a shell of his former self here and it showed.
Love your videos, I think I can shed some like on why HHH was cheered and Steiner was booed in Boston: HHH is a bit of a hometown hero in New England, he's from Londonderry NH which is less than 2 hours away from Boston (Boston is the only major city in New England so people come from all over NE for big events). It's kind of like heel Brett getting cheered in Canada. HHH also trained in Boston. Steiner on the other hand is more well known for his work in NWA/WCW which were more predominant in the south so his northeast following at the time wasn't particularly big.
I remember being so excited when this feud happened but then had my doubts as Scott Steiner hadn't wrestled since March of 2001 and triple h was just trying to get his groove back during his return in 2002. Then I lost interest when they did that dumb posedown on raw and that 2003 royal rumble title match did no favors on what little interest I had in this feud.
The build up was classic, we were all laughing about it in high school, the arm wrestling, the bench press, the pose down, these were iconic segments with massive pops and was hilarious build up
How sad. I remember how angry I was after seeing Scott becoming heel for Survivor Series after this run, like if we had no memory, he was the only hope back then. Now knowing he was hurt and having a diminished potential to sell, I know the real reason why it happened.
I've always told people this is the only feud where HHH actually tried in the ring... Idk if it was to show how much better he was, but I always thought he was trying to get a good match out of Scott
I think Triple H gets so much hate. There's a reason he was being pushed up the mid card to main event status before Steph. He's had some of the best matches and rivalries in the WWE.
He was never going to get a good match out of Steiner. Too much size, too much roids, too many injuries and a lack of mobility both from his foot/leg problems and being too large for his frame.
I agree. Although this was the reign of terror era, I think Triple H at this point was trying as he was looking for his next big rival. I think in his mind, if Evolution was going to be a success, he needed a top opponent. A Dusty to his Flair. With Rock making movies, Mick being part time, Austin about to retire, and Angle hitting it big on Smackdown, Triple H really had no one to go up against that was home grown. Hence why he spent so much of this era going up against other members of the Kliq and main eventers from WCW.
@@chaosbringer82 and triple h had a huge part in planning that screw job to begin with. I actually believe when shawn was first told about it he might of refused to do it but was convinced by triple h to do it.

Triple H sells like a BOSS in these matches and makes Scott’s clunky offence look heavy. I’d forgotten Triple H could bump so well when he was younger. The matches had all sorts of interference and everything thrown in to make Scott’s job as easy as possible and he just couldn’t deliver. The fact he got a second title shot shows he wasn’t sabotaged, Trips prob could have demanded not to work with Scott after that first match and got his way given the influence he had at the time. Triple H has had his moments but this is toxic shade thrown by Scott for self preservation.
Steiner was requested for a voluntary roid test. He said: "No issues. Just make sure that Hunter accompanies me!" These open secrets of pro wrestling 😂
Man, the wwe had so many great wcw Wrestlers during this time. They were all sadly wasted or buried in stupid matches against Trible H. The likes of Goldberg, Scott Steiner, Nash, Hall, Hogan, Booker T. I am starting to think it was done on purpose. No wonder Sting was so reluctant to join the wwe for a long period.
Probably if he hadn't been injured, Steiner would have remained in the main-event spot, no doubt, even if he was a WCW superstar and Vince buried everyone from WCW
Such a waste, Steiner should have signed to Smackdown and worked with Angle, Lesnar, Guerrero etc... people that could/would work around his injuries instead of HHH who saw to start with WCW burial tour
Did you actually watch their Rumble match? Injuries weren't the issue, the fact Steiner gassed in 6 minutes was the problem, no one can carry a guy who gasses that fast.

This was another feud where watching as a kid I thought it was the best rivalry ever, Steiner was so cool upon his arrival but upon further investigation it was quite flawed, still loved this early 2003 era Steiner was quite sad to see him paired with the guy who shares the same charismatic tendencies as a wood plank aka test
😂😂😂😂😂😂 To be fair Scott should have conditioned better than he did.. Scott wasn't in no shape to wrestle at his full potential.. Scott was throwing frankensteiners and hurricarunas and doing them beautifully! I just don't know what happened with this Scott Steiner??
@@kenrickkahn oh yea Steiner was clearly past his prime here and had sacrificed almost all in ring mobility for size. Watching Steiner fall over on his own accord was very sad.
Steiner should've stayed on the blue brand. Imagine him feuding with Lesnar, Angle or Undertaker
Him beating Lesnar in Survivor Series instead of Big Show will have being epic

I remember this feud and remember being excited for Steiner VS Triple H at Royal Rumble 2003, one of the last PPVs I ordered. I remember enjoying the match at the time. It wasn’t until watching back on it years later I realised how much it sucked.
Honestly I think he should’ve feuded with Kurt angle after WM19 and went to smackdown instead there were a lot of people there that could’ve helped him and also a lot of amateur wrestlers that would’ve been a basis for a feud
Smackdown was about wrestling and Steiner could barely wrestle at the time

It was nice to see Scott Steiner back in the WWE in the early 2000's, but you can tell that his stamina and endurance level wasn't the same anymore for him. The man still has a very solid physique.
My favorite part about this whole feud was the night after the rumble. Steiner challenged Hunter to a rematch and Hunter pulled out a doctors note. I go back and rewatch that promo all the time
Great topic, here! Your channel is a true reference for 90's and 2000's wrestling. Cheers, man!
As someone with nerve damage from my back that drop foot from his back injury is a pretty significant injury to deal with. It's amazing he was able to do much at all.
Well, Steiner is a genetic freak
Scott got too big while recovering from injury. He lost his athleticism. Even his punches are so, so slow. He looked great, but he couldn't move. Very sad, because Steiners in mid 90s WCW were exceptional.
it's a complete and total waste by him. he was already a massive dude. adding more size did absolutely nothing but make him look like a freak. I don't think that's a smart trade off. he was an absolute beast in the early 90s I would even argue he was better in the ring than Lesnar when he first came in. it's really sad what he did to himself.
@@cjvaye99 I’d say he could outperform Lesnar in his heyday. The Frankensteinet! Lesnar isn’t leaping like that. He was like a luchador in a bodybuilder’s body.

I never watched Scott Steiner in his peak but I watched some of his promos, matches and segments from late WCW, WWE and TNA and I really like him. The guy understood entertainment and made wrestling look real, by his acts and awesome promos. Triple H is not to blame here. Vince or WWE bookers should have done two things, letting Scott fully recover before putting him in any major storyline and also let him play a heel. They could have done a lot more with him
Scott and Goldberg were such huge missed opportunities, couldve definitely got many years of service from them if utilized correctly.
Goldberg got exposed in WWE. Mediocre wrestling skills and terrible mic work in the era of Stone Cold and Rock wasn't going to cut it. Brock gets to one hit opponents because he is legit skilled athlete unlike Roidberg Botchberg
Goldberg only signed for a year though, and didn't like the day to day/behind the scenes work either which didn't go down well with WWE's upper management. They couldn't plan anything long term with him.

@@nocontextpoppapump They screwed you and ddp with the wrong gimmicks of being face and heel.
Steiner probably should have gone to smackdown.
@nocontextpoppapump I appreciate your mark on the business man.
@@walker1984
Even when this was current I remember thinking OMG how can they book the best heel of the late 90s as a face!? Definitely should've been on Smackdown.
Scott is my all time favorite wrestler, but he's a terrible baby face. He does not have that kind of acting range! BPP worked because it was believable. It was believable because it was part of his real personality exaggerated to the Nth degree.

True I've never seen HHH or Steiner as main eventers. They're the guys who were heels wrestling the main eventers.
Think Steiner's pre-existing beef with Flair is what really doomed him as Flair had stroke via his friendship/mentorship with Triple H.
His crooked yellow teeth
It's a damn shame Steiner had to somehow work as a babyface. He was easily a much better heel than HHH.

Great video as usual and special thanks for Sam and Victor for coming up with those amazing remixes! They really help the channel stand out to me
Two things: First, Scott Steiner would've worked far better as a heel; the gimmick is nothing but heel all over. Secondly, HHH was absolutely spot on in that last interview segment; people who don't make it and/or marks for the people who don't make it always have to find someone or something else to blame. Locus of attribution.
I watched this feud as it happened, all I'll say is thank GOD for Smackdown in 2003
I remember watching all this too so great back then.
Wrestlemania 19 should have featured a match were HHH and Steiner attempted to tie their own shoes. Of course HHH would have blown his hamstrings and Steiner would have roid raged the ref so it would have been a draw.

I loved the pose off, it was fun to watch and was also included in HCTP game where you do it with HHH.
Just got finished on the WCW Upload and this pops up to my delight 🙌
Considering the pop he got when he returned, this theory is dumb.
Goldberg got booed because The Rock was crazy popular and the match sucked because Goldberg sucked. This was also after Goldberg stunk it up with Brock at WrestleMania. People just didn't think Goldberg deserved to beat the rock.

So was triple h and it took a heart episode for the game to finally a MIT's his steroid use each

Love your videos, I think I can shed some like on why HHH was cheered and Steiner was booed in Boston:
HHH is a bit of a hometown hero in New England, he's from Londonderry NH which is less than 2 hours away from Boston (Boston is the only major city in New England so people come from all over NE for big events). It's kind of like heel Brett getting cheered in Canada.
HHH also trained in Boston.
Steiner on the other hand is more well known for his work in NWA/WCW which were more predominant in the south so his northeast following at the time wasn't particularly big.
These music Mashups are always so good
I remember being so excited when this feud happened but then had my doubts as Scott Steiner hadn't wrestled since March of 2001 and triple h was just trying to get his groove back during his return in 2002.
I needed this vid soo much, another great one. Good seeing some poppa pump
He tried in the ring by sandbagging Steiner.
