I know it may be an unpopular opinion but Jason was always my favorite member of Metallica. Just love the dudes vibes.
lazytable yeah, I feel like Jason kinda *was* Metallica
I completely agree, he's my favorite too. He's the only one who didn't turn into an egotistical asshole.
Amen.
lazytable I think he is way better than Robert
Roman Bellic I don't know if he was better than Robert or Cliff, but his style of playing fit way better than either of them.
Love you Jason, keep doing whatever makes you happy brother.
best backing vocals Metallica ever had
Vincent Agundez my favorite thing is on their live album hearing him yell "motherfucker" during Creeping Death
Alex McCaslin Yes! I was just showing my 10 and 5 year old cousin's the live version of that song when they performed it in Basel in 1992. I guess it's safe to say that today, Metallica gained two new fans.
Vincent Agundez that's good parenting
Alex McCaslin he was talking about his cousins 0_o
thats not much tho
Newsted.... a GREAT example of how all artists should handle their careers. He knew when to say when.. and also parlay his passion into another form of art. His paintings are beautiful.
Jason, we miss you, brother.
He's not dead calm down
So weird to think that he was the guy that did backup vocals for creeping death on live tours during the 90s, I still think he's an awesome legend
He is slowly turning into Lou Reed
And that ain't a negative thing.
and his art is slowly turning into a basquiat rip-off
Willem Dafoe
He's becoming possessed by his spirit...
beavis butthead.
I could listen to him talk for hours
Jason always talks like a Marine
Wish he could do another Newsted album. I love Heavy Metal Music!
The Emperor me too
That was a great album. It's cool how they recorded the whole album in two weeks.
Jason will always be in Metallica, even if he's not playing with them.
Yeah me too. Rob is great and I think officially today he is the bassist with the longest tenure in Metallica, but Jason was what it was when I started listening to them, and those four people will always be burned into my mind. I can only imagine how the people who were around for Cliff feel.
@@alexstone108
Well, I'm old enough to have seen Metallica with all three bass players, and I have to say: Every single one of them completed and completes Metallica in their own way, and that's what matters.
Cliff, Jason and Rob each are excellent bass players in their own right, deserve respect for doing their job well and thus doing their part in making Metallica what it is. And both Jason and Rob are to be commended for developing and bringing in their own respective playing styles and personalities instead of going the easy way by just trying to be ersatz Cliffs.
_In the end, Metallica wouldn't be Metallica if any of the three lads wouldn't have been there._
@@drops2cents260 Here, here
I think even Metallica would agree.
It's Good To See Jason Back
A show-man all the way!
I didn't see Cliff Burton playing alive, I don't like Robert Trujillo too much. Jason Newsted will be Metallica bass player forever in my Metallica line up.
Luciano Roberto saw cliff in 83...85...the real days...metal was hatched and just, spreading the seeds
Fucking cool man, I wish I could've attended Metallica early shows... but I do think the "real days" of Metallica have been many, with and without Cliff Burton. Although he was a brilliant bassist, - and you knew that, because you saw him - I think Metallica has done great things without Cliff.
Really? Sabbath were spreading Metal seeds 15 years before that.
Luciano Roberto you are sooooo right...
I'm not trying to start shit but what do you have against Robert?
At 4:52 "psychiatrists might have some questions" And JN looks into the camera with a proud, cheeky grin on his face. Hahaha
Still want Jason to get back into the music business
He plays unplugged / country music with the chophouse band. He mentioned in an interview that he didn't abandon metal but he's just focusing on other things.
+
He did his Newsted solo project a few years back, but I don't think it was successful enough for him to warrant continuing it. More people should have bought the album and saw them live and he would probably be recording and touring right now instead of doing art exhibits.
That's why he currently kisses the old bands asses whenever possible to possibly get back in the band in few years
@@Noah-vc6qz
> He plays unplugged / country music
Hey, he could team up with Greg Graffin from Bad Religion when Greg makes another solo CD (Jason playing bass on songs like Backroads Of My Mind, Lincoln's Funeral Train or Millport? **rrrRRRrrr**). Although considering Graffins solo stuff release cycle, that could be well into the 2020ies. :-)
Im sorry I love Jason, but why does he look like he is about to anounce the best new apple product of the year. lol.
Kim Wilson lol
Kim Wilson lmao
Chase Wilson It's just you, Jason does not dress like a 80s retro teen anymore.
😂
It’s called being a multimillionaire
HUGE thumbs up!!
Yuuuuge.
Jason may be out of the metal world these days but he will always remain as my ALL TIME favorite bass player.
Some of that stuff is really fuckin good. The big blue one is incredible.
He's getting old which means I'm getting old 😩

And it's for life only, no exceptions.
Gotta give him some credit, his art is pretty good
support. miss this guy a lot in metallica.
Who would have thought that Satan himself was so artistic
Hard to believe that the guy singing whiplash in Seattle 89 was this guy. Beast
he's pretty fuckin' good
I'd buy one of those. Doubt I could afford one though )
miss you jason
Twenty miss you? dude has been everywhere...voivod, echo brain, Newsted, Ozzy, 30th anniversary...
he is not dead...just google his 900 projects.
some of these wouldve made some awesome 90s grunge albums! i dig it
I hate modern art and especially modern paintings (a red square, what the fuck, yes a red square is somehow art).
But Jason has actually created some great pieces, his paintings actually have some real meaning to them, which I suppose is what art should be, it should have meaning, and visually his paintings look good too.
So he has been in the modern art business for what (like 5 mins) and he is already better than the majority.
I love Jason, I love Metallica.... but....that's not art(it's my opinion)... I'm serious about art, painting, sculptures.....
it's more like modern art (crap)...
modern art has become a joke...because of many reasons... one of them is musicians, celebs doing some random dung & calling it art....wtf...it's shameful...
Nalin Moses Middey 😂😂😂😂
8:00 This one is my favorite!
I always liked Jason Metallica when he was still in it WAS the Metallica for me ... everything since is obviously an evolution but the band is not as aggressive or on point for me . The artwork is cool but shame he isn't doing great musically, Newsted was great shame to see the project dropped due to financial issues
the right music the right herb can influence great things. Kyuss ref. points sir points
Awesome vibes from Jason, just a really genuine guy...
I hope he comes back to Metallica
I think each bass player at the time was the right fit for Metallica and who's to say if Cliff hadn't passed away that he'd still be with them to this day. Cliff brought the melody and harmonies into the band that they didn't have and helped paved the way for some of their songs in the latter years. Jason is a well rounded bass player who wasn't given the opportunity within Metallica to venture out a little much like Rob was given with his project Jaco. I think Jason would still be with them had they given him the opportunity to broaden his ability. It would be interesting to see if he could come back and do an album with them. He had such a dynamic stage presence and great vocals, and with rob you have the great stage presence as he moves about a lot, but the backing vocals feel forced. All in all though this band is still pushing on and the last album really bridged the gap from Kill Em All to Death Magnetic. They sound great, they're still fast and they still seem to enjoy what they do and although at a pretty penny they still try to give the fans everything they can. They're not gonna make everyone happy, but who does nowadays. Great artwork Jason, look forward to more.
The dog painting reminds me of "Guernica" by Picasso (1937)
Good job Jason!
I really like his stuff, cool pieces of art!
As an artist myself (or more honestly, a "guy who fucks around with paint from time to time") I have to say I wish I had that sort of imagination. He and Kurt Cobain are/were really striking visual artists. I would like to have seen them collaborate on something. RIP Kurt :(
Such a cool guy! Really, he is metal to the bone, and always humble. He was my favorit part fo Metallica, and he made them great live -Nowadays they just don't have that rough power that they did with Jason :/
1:50 "If I had the right music on, the right HERB was happenin..."
*Tokes blunt*
My maaaan
My favorite Metallica member. Even if he's still not in the band.
his wife paints better
That is nice Jason is against unnecessary dog fighting. What about people that has access to plant based burgers like Beyond meat and Impossible burger, access to soy, almond, hemp and coconut milk, but choose to eat animals unnecessarily?
HE'S BACK!
Some seriously good pieces!! Couple that with his music, truely shows an overall talented artist.
Alot of Basquiat influence, really great
The right HERB was happening! 🌿🌿 😂 😎💨💨
Guys, the paintings are still good. Art is an expression, it's you doing what you feel. He even says it depends on what he's doing /listening to at the moment inspires the paintings. Just because they're not the fucking Sistine Chapel doesn't mean it's not good.
I would love to have a conversation with jason.
"I call it Bold and Brash"
"More like Belongs in the Trash"
I looove this man. Always kind and passionate. This man is the living proof of living his life the best we can. That's what i'm talking about.
Jason The soul of Metallica!
Hi bro Jason.. From stase..Rose . Oley Bandong... Day hes Mareage. Hammertt home.. U remind... Studio Phy.
Very talented man in my opinion... An real artist and legendary bassist! (and singer)
Come back to make music Jasooonn!
(sorry for my terrible english xD)
I fucking love him (:
Remarkably talented man.
Congratulations Jason!! Great works, missing you in Metallica already
Great guy, cool art and nice Lars props.
Its pretty nice paintings. Like wouldn't mind to have this in a living room
Shit!!! Dude can paint
I have two thumbs, why I can only give one thumb up?
Please do an interview with him again, I just want to see what he's doing
Jason's Art Should Be in Jason Newsted and the Chophouse Band's Debut Album
Good paintings, like to see more.
He's one strange cat. . but I love the guy ..always have...
He seems like a very intelligent person
Yeah! He's very intelligent when he talks and i love his art collection.
not my taste in art but more power to him, wish Jason was still in Metallica nothing against Rob he is great also.
Jason has always been my favorite Metallica member (I always saw him like "one of us", the fan becoming part of the band), but this is pretty bad. I never liked artists like Pollock, Basquiat or Miró (three really different artists tho). When you have to explain what the work is about or how you did it so people say "oh, that's interesting", then it's just bad. There are some good techniques in his art, but nothing that I would consider a good work itself.
What I like from my favorite artists (Goya, Velázquez, Dalí, Magritte, Klimt, Mucha…) is that their work is absolutely gorgeous just to look at, it's easy that you like any of their pieces because they look amazing. But then you start reading about their techniques or the meaning of what they painted and everything is even better. I remember the first time I saw 'The lovers' from Magritte, I liked it because he painted something beautiful like a kiss and turned it into something really dark and suffocating. And then, in art school I learned what was the meaning of the blankets over the faces of the lovers and I liked it even more. That's what I think good art is about. Making you liking something because how it looks and then making you loving it when you know the meaning of the work.
Nobody gives a fuck what you think.
I see lots of Basquiat and Keith Haring (NYC street art) in these....... keep up the good work!! 🎉🍄🥂
Big jason you're the soul of Metallica forever
Great to see Jason!
U can't art home studio matellica band first album.. Up above Water land.. Art for fun matellica.. Have Cort badminton.also very we play futsal.. Roundos kit..
The fiercest Metallica was when Jason was playing bass w/ a pick and doing backup vocals.
Better artwork than Hardwired album cover.
He could make the artwork for the next Metallica album :)
Well, he probably should. Metallica latest 4 releases (Lulu, Death magnetic, Beyond magnetic and Hardwired) all had a very uninspired album cover, just plain white and focusing on the center. Beyond magnetic is just black with metallica M logo.
They're one of richest band on the planet and couldnt get someone who can create decent album cover. Their early albums has a very cool front art and it just look so fckin metal.
True i hate that album cover
Stereotype23 if lars doesnt sue him
this dude falls off the face of the earth every couple years then comes back
Absolutely digging Jason's art.
I’ll get shot for this but I don’t think Cliff could have made The Black Album for good or for bad. Cliff was too busy. Don’t get me wrong, he was incredible, but I don’t think he would have served the songs with the same discipline as Jason. I could be wrong, but that is my opinion. And, like I said, for the good or the bad.
When people keep bitching about how Cliff was the best artistic/creative influence in MetallicA, and then you see this guy... > 1:11
Now we know what's really missing in MetallicA. - They've pushed out the most passionate and artistic part they had.
How I wish they had kept him, or he had stayed, to argue with Lars and James, and make better music.
Jason basically robbed them... Because James wanted to rob him of his freedom... It's more fucked up the more you think about it throughout the years...
Those are cool paintings but literally ripping off Basqiat.
This is not good art. Everyone, be serious. Nice guy. Great bass player. Artist? No.
wow ! Mr Newstead ! love the art . looks fucking alive , vibrant spontaneous and in your face ! Love it .
I hate weird modern art that needs 1000 meanings and looks like shit but I’m happy for him I guess?
Ugh... I had to watch at least Whiplash from Seattle 1989 to forget about this video.
Highly influenced by Basquiat.
I can honestly say that I’m really not a fan of his artwork, but I guess that’s because I’m not a fan of modern art in general. But anyway, at least Jason loves what he is doing and it keeps him happy.
this is fucking great, 5:00 on the left looks so cool
If this is considered art, I have been doing this forever....I thought it was called "not being able to draw"
Ironic coming from someone with a South Park avatar. The animation is pretty crap yet they still entertain.
Brilliantly put.
the artist formally known as craig lastname south park looks like something, not scribbling
this is awesome. Thank you Jason. (and loudwire) :)
he sounds like a man selling appliances...not describing painting.
as far as basquiat and ralph steadman homages go, these were pretty good!!
This is very unique and fascinating. Love this man❤
Incredibly Humble Guy
"This one I 'm gonna call LOAD. Give me the vaseline."
Ive never had much of an opinion of newsted, neither hated or rated him, but going through his art and fact or fiction interview, ive got a new respect for him, didnt know about fucking his shoulders up or his art. Ive been going through ops over last 10 yrs and also turned to art,it helps. Good on ya newsted!!
Too much money, you should play bass man, art isn't your gig.lol..
ese Jaaaaaase!!!!
I love Jason but those paintings are pure non sense lol. But of course the selling factor is his popularity nothing else.
Wonder how much $ he still gets from his time in Metallica?
At least it looks like art. I was in a Art museum weeks ago and there was shit in there that didn't belong in a museum.
