- Welcome to another episode of Board Meeting. In this episode, Robert and I will talk about Gore-Tex vent plugs for SUP stand up paddle boards. Vent plugs are installed on SUP boards as a way to help prevent the separation of the fiberglass or epoxy layer from the foam core, also known as delamination.

After having various brands of boards with vents in them...ten or more... I finally get one with a Gore vent and I freak out because its bubbling away in the water. I change the plug and it still does it. I have known the theory of air passing in and out... but always thought it was so subtle you would not notice. Now I suspect that in the past.. all those other vents were crap and did nothing.. explaining why perhaps two delamed? They should have been bubbling at times.... As you guys mention here!

Does a hollow wood/fiberglass SUP also require a vent plug? Thanks
Should you unscrew the vent plug before you fly with the board, even with a Gore-Tex plug?

Great info. Question why does Starboard use the screw plug and not these? Not sure if the new boards have the vents or screw?
I think Starboard still use screw plug, but do not see the 2021 models yet.
