10/18/24: OMG, I NEVER knew a seam ripper did this, so I HAD to try it a moment ago and, like butter, it truly worked! To think of all the times I'd sit down patiently and rip out threads one by one in order to not rip the fabric, and the time it took me to do it, I am speechless. This is phenomenal. Thank you SO much!

@and4all706 - I have to wonder now if the package they came in actually had the instructions to do this. I am totally gonna have to check next time I am at the fabric store. Also just saw a video by Madame Sew and using it this way can actually rip the fabric also the same way as using it ball side up, but not as likely to.

Two years of sewing evening classes, a City & Guilds Fashion Skills diploma, and I never came across this - when I think of the hours I've spent patiently opening seams stitch by stitch with the seam ripper, this never occurred to me. A true "Doh!" moment. Thank you.

Same here. We had an amazing sewing teacher at Intermediate, and she didn't tell us. And at High School we had a very knowledgeable sewing teacher (who wouldn't let us unpick with a quick unpick in case we cut the material, so we had to use sewing pins), so she didn't know. And I have been sewing for years since then, and am now 66, and never knew until today. Amazing.

Not a sewer, don't know how this popped up on my feed, but I had seen this little tool before as a kid and thought yeah let's click on that video and omg--forget the red button, I never knew the inner curved part was sharp and could be used to slice through stitches like scissors hitting that perfect glide through wrapping paper. Amazing. You truly learn something new everyday. Thanks!
