  • After a critical problem with one of the propellers, the passengers of flight ASA 529 knew they would have to fly with only one wing. As the crew prepares for the inevitable crash landing, little do they know that more problems will follow.

    Mayday: Air Disaster - from Season 2 Episode 1 "A Wounded Bird": On August 21, 1995, Flight ASA 529 took off from Atlanta, Georgia, headed for Gulfport, Mississippi. Shortly after take-off there was a loud thud, followed by a continual thumping noise. The 26 Passengers on board could see that one of the four propeller blades was now just a stub. The engine had been torn from its mountings, and was now glued to the left wing. The plane was now effectively flying on one wing!
    For ten minutes the plane struggled to stay in the air as the pilots sought an emergency airfield. But there was no way. The plane was coming down too fast. The pilots prepared for a crash landing.

    After the crash & even after the burns, I initially thought that all but the pilot would survive, until the doctor educated me about how serious a matter it actually is for those badly burned potentially dying even weeks later. Something I didn't know.

      As of a few years ago I have never flown on a plane my boyfriend went to Las Vegas with his brother for a real estate thing and I wanted to go just because I have never flew and I was scared turbulence was terrifying to me it made the plane feel like it was dropping out this guy but that was my first time having cosmopolitans the drink had three of them on the way they work too well I would not do it again unless it was an absolute absolute emergency.

      The reason these are very publicized is because find they say is a lot safer than driving a car. With that being said I have flown before a few times but I will say I'd rather be in an accident on the ground then thousands of feet in the air stalling out or crashing. I truly believe though everyone has a time so to speak so with that being said it's good to use caution but you can't escape when it's your time to leave the planet. So try flying at least once in your life,

      Unfortunately, these carriers don't even pay their pilots very well and they're frequently overworked. So, installing extra cameras, sensors and such costs money that these small regional airlines don't want to spend.

    I was on a regional short haul flight with my wife and there was a big two-seater passenger that was arguing with the flight attedants when they asked him to change his seat as to properly trim the plane. When he finally moved, he sat right over the wings next to an emergency exit door and he was fuming when the crew moved him again explaining that he couldn't sit next to the exit because if he passed out or panicked in the event of an emergency he would be blocking others from getting out. Lesson here, it's best to fly if you only require one seat.

    after watching dozens of these mayday episodes i couldn't fly in a plane cause i'd be annoying the attendants every second before take off asking ...... did the pilots complete their checklist? are you sure they didn't purposely trip an fuses to silence alarms? are either pilot in financial distress? or depressed? when was the last time this plane was serviced? is there any wind sheer alerts? are we taking off from a long enough runway?. i would definitely end up getting kicked off the plane for frightening everyone.

      They didn't have another choice. The drag from the dead engine was so severe that they could barely maintain straight and level flight, let alone make right hand turns. They could only make left hand turns.

    • @erikterock9071
      @erikterock9071 11 месяцев назад

      @@juliemanarin4127In aviation, if you're flying a twin engine aircraft, and one engine fails, you should never turn in the direction of the dead engine. It can lead to a stall or a spin that's unrecoverable. Seektruth3307 was asking why they were making left hand turns with the left engine shut down, since that's against the normal protocol.

I don't know what is more ridiculous, The fact they assume people are dumb enough not to know that the person(s) are passengers and the co pilot, or the horrible writing that caused the Narrator to have to over dramatize the events. And that concludes todays installment of : Things that make go Hmmmmmm.
