This song was played to give the singer time for a dress change, the best version of this song you can see/hear in the famous Wacken 2013 performance, Floor having the Wardroom incident (losing the fight with a zipper)
I concur. There is a kind of Troy pipes solo* at the start that is cut short in this version, but you can see the song in full in Wachen 2013 version.
This version is great for showing different audience reactions, though.
* okay not really a solo, as Tuomas is also playing beautifully in the background but I'm sure you get what I mean.
There is a Finnish version of this, named "Erämaan viimeiset" and vocalist is Jonsu from all female band "Indica". Here is link and video includes English subtitles:

Nightwish always brings that cohesiveness that makes for a truly great band. Even with their more serious songs, you always come away uplifted. When they let loose like this you can't help but feel their joy in their music.
I love the celtic side of Nightwish, and Tuomas' compositions.
that little breakdown in the middle... the sounds of an old English forest with the pixies and unicorns running around in the sunlight... is one of the most beautiful movements of music I've ever heard. Tuomas is indeed the Metal Mozart and a musical genius!

I'm glad that you got to know this side of Nightwish today that explores the Celtic-folk vein. An essential element here is the multi-instrumentalist Troy Donockley from the UK, who collaborated with the band since 2007 and became a permanent member of the band together with Floor, in the summer/autumn of 2013.

When they played this at Wacken 2013 concert it allowed Floor time to effect a costume change, and I imagine that is what it is used for at other concerts...besides being a flipping awesome track!

I was with my wife and son and some of his university friends in Glasgow one time, we had mainly folk music on while playing pool, and I overheard one of his friends wistfully comment that nobody ever chooses metal. So I put on (the album version of) this and watched the reactions. Then let it run into the next songs, _7_ _Days_ _to_ _the_ _Wolves_ and _Meadows_ _of_ _Heaven,_ then we did a variety of other metal until we had to leave. My good deed for the day.

Hi Red, if you like this so much, you should also check out Nightwish's "My Walden" live at Wembley, it's another Celtic inspired song, but this with vocals .. it begins with Troy singing in Welsh, and of course has Floor's beautiful voice to accompany it.

I like the version from Wacken2013 where Emppu collapses (intentionally) at the end and Marko helps him up.
They play with such joy. They are Uilleann pipes (also known as Irish bagpipes) not played with the mouth like Scottish one's. Played by Troy as well as flutes, whistles, guitars and all sorts! The swiss army knife of the band. 😂 They have a few with this sort of Celtic sound to them that I'm sure you'll love too. Not on of those but I think you're ready for The Greatest Show on Earth.

Enjoyed your reaction a lot! I love this song, especially since it doesn't get reacted to a lot. From the Dark Passion Play album. This is a fun video but I like the performance from Wacken even more. Troy is playing the Uilleann pipes (Irish bagpipes). The magical, almost bell like sound you heard during the quiet interlude right before Troy plays his tin whistle is Finland's national folk instrument, the Kantele. Closest thing to it in the US is an autoharp or hammered dulcimer.
Song is a tribute to Finland's forests and lakes. As others have mentioned there is a beautiful version of this song with lyrics in Finnish, Erämaan Viimeinen. TTK20113 has provided a link to a great fan made video with subtitles in English and Finnish. The Finnish lyrics are sung by a guest singer, Jonsu, of the female Finnish pop group Indica. Erämaan Viimeinen is one of the few Nightwish songs with the lyrics in Finnish. Tuomas has said that Finnish is a very practical language and it is hard to write lyrics in Finnish that are musical and poetic so he mostly writes in English. I think the Erämaan Viimeinen vocals are very beautiful, especially the way Jonsu sings them and I wish Nightwish did more songs in Finnish. Indica is kind of like a Finnish version of the Go-Gos. They are a lot of fun and worth checking out. They toured with Nightwish in 2007 when Last of the Wilds and Erämaan Viimeinen was released and Tuomas also produced an album for them after that tour.

I love this instrumental also the boy`s really shine. Tuomas is one of a kind, I know that the other`s contribute also but he is totally a poet. Troy is a master at many instrument`s I especially love his pipe`s. Look how young they are here.

if you like this clip style video then another one in a similar vein is for the song Edema Ruh. It is a fan made whole lot of live clips but the song is the studio version as it very rarely has been played live. If you like literary music then this is based on the book by Patrick Rothfus - Name of the Wind and the lyrics translate well to the life of a band on the road.
