hello y'all. it's maris. I appreciate this opportunity and the kindness of your words so much! thank you!! it was truly an honor to be in the presence of such talented musicians, let alone have the amazing time of working with them. I'm so grateful! thank you!
You're a superstar in the making Maris!
Maris Your voice is extremely beautiful. can't wait to hear more. :)
You made a heartbreakingly beautiful song sound even MORE heartbreakingly beautiful.
Your future is BRIGHT!
...damn dude... wow... that's all... just... damn...
youre so awesome that next song will be jolene begging you instead, amazing job
This version really catches the bitterness of the lyrics. I'm in love with it, and her voice, and the arrangements (flawless as expected from PMJ), and everything about this.
I've never heared a cover so dramatic of Jolene, this is amazing!! and Maris is amazing! her voice is so on point and clear and is such a delight to hear, amazing job all of you!
Listen the cover of the withe stripes live
@@romain2008 ditto. Great cover
@@romain2008 just wanted to comment that!
@@romain2008 Yep. Agree.
Just wanted to say: Listen to Jack White :-)
What I like about this song is that the woman singing doesn't blame Jolene for being so beautiful or for seducing men. She's humble and asking for sympathy, instead of angry and jealous like you often see.
I'd forgotten how subtle the lyrics were. But Dolly Parton is often under-estimated.
So much better than the Beyonce cover of this song which twisted the original words and intent of the song.
I played this video expecting to be disappointed, I am a long time fan of Dolly's version of this song, but instead I was moved to tears. This is by far the best version of this song I have ever heard.
Dolly Parton should see this!
I have liked the song Jolene since I first heard it years and years ago, but no version has ever made me cry except for this one. The emotion is so strong in Maris' voice and it gets me every time. This is now my absolute favorite version of this song.
I'd like to personally apologize to Maris for my being named Jolene
I accept your apology, and would like to personally apologize for being so upset with you. we're better than him, anyway.
Maris I accept your apology as well. I also agree, we are much better
😂
🤣🤣🤣
@@marisofficial where is he now?
is this voice the voice of an angel???
so smooth so beautiful to the ears so powerful
wow just wow
I'm Russian and I heard this first time in my soviet childhood... A long, long time ago, old soviet cassette. I can't even imagine that I'm still able to remember! Wonderful feelings. Thank you, Scott...
you guys should do Hotel California like swing style
Tiffany Loretta Teague THIS THIS THIS
YES YES YES OMG
+++++++++
PLEASEEEEEEEEEEE! Rebuild this hope 3 years later
That would be great!
Goosebumps , from beggining till the end . I'm so in love with her powerful voice 😌👌😍
Another great revelation from PMJ: ladies and gentleman, the young and talented MARIS!!!
her voice needs to be known more!
Best version of Jolene that i've ever heared!! abosulutely love it!!!
i've known this girl personally since 7th grade and now we're both juniors in high school (seniors after the summer) and this cover has just had me shook. i remember us singing high school musical in her car as loud as we could just a few summers ago and her singing one direction time and time again.. i'm so proud of her and care for her so much. she's going to be so famous some day and i'm blessed that i have had the opportunity to be one of her friends;
nope..we grew up in the rodeo. i was corgi master in 9th grade and she was yorky queen in 10th. dont even play. Mars and Maris, inseparable 💗
Nu uh we were best friends since born! Bracelets and everything, used to sing and perform together don’t know who you guys are
@@Mars- i literally went to middle school with her homie what are you on 😂
@@dbbdjkjsksk7707 homie i knew her in middle school this isn’t a competition 😂
This added so much emotion to the song
Hope Sim Then you've probably never heard a live recording of the original. I highly recommend it.
I didn't say the original doesn't evoke emotion and I like it for different reasons but personally I prefer this tempo and the use of strings
I agree. It's a really great interpretation. Nevertheless, the original is perfect the way it is. I don't know any other song that is remotely like it.
Try the white stripes cover too!
It's something special too
Anneke van Giersbergen and Danny Cavanagh's version is super awesome too! :3
Incredible performance. I loved it!
I loved Miley's version, and this is also amazing.
IDK why but I got "House of the rising sun" vibes, before the other strings joined.
The piano part is very similar to Haley Reinhart's version of HOTRS
Was just thinking the same thing! This girl would slay it!!!
@Leah Lorna Moon's Writing School No.
Omg YES
I'm a 62-yer-old man and it is pretty hard to get me emotional, but this version literally had me in tears.
These kinds of Postmodern Jukebox songs makes me want get an orchestra and conduct it till there's no end
That is one of the best vocal performances I've seen on a PMJ video for a very long time!!! Please use this lady more! She sang it with so much passion!
Love her voice and this version. It proves how great Dolly Parton is as a songwriter.
Wow, she's got the chops and the talent to kill on this song! Great music in every way.
Wow, okay, this was wonderful. The singer is amazing and the arrangement, as always, stunning. Loved it!!
Oh dam this changes the song wow I hope dolly see this and is happy
Redeye007 Collecting Movies Dolly sure would love this!
Jessie Louis I agree, I think she would love this cover too.
Actually this arrangement reminds me of Mindy Smith’s version in terms of the passion and angst. Dolly sang harmonies at the end of that version after she heard a rough cut...
This is the only version that has ever made me cry.
Wow great cover, Dolly I bet is impressed if she has seen this already
Who else got chills?
This woman sings with fire in her heart and it’s violent.
Oh wow she KILLED this cover. One of the best PMJ covers I've seen
So much control and restraint. It sounds like she has to tame her powerful voice and does so masterfully.
Greetings from the JJBA fandom.
Beautiful cover, Scott killed it on the piano.
Let those tears sink to the bottom of a stone ocean.
I love the imagery of your comment - it fits perfectly with this version of the song.
Look what you've done, I'm crying again...
It's kinda unnerving with a darkness, much darker than original. The piano and violin especially. Love it
This is amazing. Everything about this -Maris' powerful voice, the song, the strings! WOW! Another wonderful composition. Bravo, Mr. Bradlee and all; bravo!
this postmodern band and guest singers are off the charts. Always well done and absolute perfection.
the way she sings this song made me cry like a mf 😢
I got chills! In this weather it was a blessing from on high!
Everyone else has already established how wonderful Maris' voice and the actual sound of the song is, and I most definitely agree... But now that that's been said, can we all take a moment to appreciate how gorgeous that freaking HARP looks??? It's distractingly beautiful. ❤
WOW best cover to date of this song, amazing, so much depth and emotion :) loved it
Sometimes, an individual or group comes along and just creates a better version than the original. This is a perfect example of that. The raw emotion that Maris contributes gives deeper meaning to the lyrics than any other version I've ever heard, and the instruments used, especially the harp, lends a distinct and profound quality that makes this version unique. Disturbed did the same with The Sound of Silence, and Lanie Gardner did it with Dreams.
SO emotional and incredible, You're such a golden star Maris, I'm glad Scott Bradlee found you!
The vulnerability that I heard in her voice amazes me aaaaaaa best Jolene cover I've heard!
literal goosebumps
Maris you are amazing! Stay true to yourself, you are going to go far.
Now how on Earth could Jolene take Maris's man after this?
Beautifully heartfelt.
I have heard this song performed as a bouncy country ballad, a slow country ballad (almost a dirge) but I have to say this is my favorite rendition...Maris, the singer in this version, gives such an emotionally charged performance, her pain is palpable...one can almost cut it with a knife...stuff like this is why PMJ is my favorite source for music...brava, brava...
better than the actual song. the original one is way more fast and happy but the lyrics have always needed a softer melody to them. this is perfect. sad, slow and emotional. Congratz to Maris!
It may be better in your opinion, but no one can sing better this song better than Dolly
I disagree, the original wasn't happy, it was desperate, and in its simplicity lay its strength. It's about a plain Jane woman trying to appeal to a far more glamorous one, and the music and vocals brought that aspect out.
@@fnglert I agree, my impression as I listened to this cover was that the power of her performance overrode the desperation and vulnerability that Dolly Parton put in it. This is in no way a criticism of Maris' voice, she's a powerhouse!
I don't know what to say, man. I just keep watching this video over and over, it's just too amazing.
My favourite dolly song
Maris, your voice gives this song a very emotional touch. It's amazing! Personally, I like this song very much. My daughter's name is Jolene.
Yeah, but not buying it. She could easily compete with Jolene.
Marvelous arrangement, marvelous performance.
jim pollard yeah, I mean, can Jolene sing like this?
😂😂
Pretty sure she fits the description of Jolene
The thing is, we don't know what her husband's tastes are. You have to assume there's something about Jolene that draws him. He might not be able to deal with her intensity. (Which is one of the things I love about this recording.)
I've been listening to different covers of Jolene all day and this is the one that actually gave me goosebumps
Wow. That was intense.
After a few (imo) missteps, this knocked it out of the PARK! GREAT performance and GREAT arrangement!
Every once in a while PMJ just absolutely nails the arrangement, nails the sound. This one is up there with the Black Hole Sun cover, which is the single best thing you have ever done in my opinion. F'in BRAVO! You really knocked it out of the park in every aspect.
Honestly... Best version of the song I have ever heard.
This is one of theeeee most beautiful covers I've heard from you guys :)
Jolene so mean,
But in the world without you, there is not this beautiful sad song.
Oh god my heart, it's too much for me
AMAZING. Never imagined a classic could be reinvented
Creative bunch. PMJ renews my hope that music will be music again
That voice is a drug for my ears👏
GUYS PLEASE MAKE A CHRIS CORNELL TRIBUTE.. He was such a great singer and he inspired a generation of people using his unique sound and masterful song writing to pick up the microphone and sing, and there are many fans around the world- including myself- who would love to see him and his memory honored through song.. PLEASE!!
Julio Laforteza check out Black Hole Sun by PMJ. Flawless
Julio Laforteza rest assured you know my name cover is coming
djdigital1 compassion is one of the finer traits in humanity.
djdigital1 you do realize that people struggling with depression and other mental illnesses deal with suidical thoughts and aren't being selfish cowards. You are an awful person.
Yes, please do.
Outstanding PMJ, just when I thought you could not do any better, you delivered another masterpiece. Now i must dry my eyes and remember that I'm a grown man.
i think i found new song to play on the guitar :D great performance. I am speechless!!!
just love this version of the classic Dolly Parton song.
great things are a head for you Marist
holy... i dont even know... this was awesome
oh my goodness, a voice that tugs at your very soul and makes you feel every word as if you have never heard it before, that girl is a class act and if Joleyne has any sense she'll walk away now. Truly wonderful.
This needed 2 viewings to appreciate, because the 1st put me in a trance and I zoned out lol. Incredible.
This is the most heart wrenching version of this song I've ever heard. Not just sang it well, but sang it with pathos.
Please do more covers with her!!
i'm so in love with this. amazing orchestra, amazing vocalist. simply beautiful
I've never heard this song actually sung by Jolene before.
Postmodern, once again you have cracked it, you never disappoint and often blow it right out of the water, cheers.
Bees. Knees.
My late father's favorite song. Making me cry to hear this cover. Her voice is amazing, and pulls at the heart strings. Wow. Absolutely blown away.
Anyone else NOT here from the Live stream? :D
Blayr Harrow me. was strolling through yt and saw this video.
Blayr Harrow Here from YT notifications.
Blayr Harrow moi
Awesome, incredible good, the harp, the strings, the piano, the bass, the drums, and the voice, everything is placed just right.
Mad harp skills
Maris, and all of you made me cry because of how amazing music can be....YOU ARE INSANELY TALENTED!!!!!! Thank you for sharing this with the world!!!!!!
this is fucking fantastic!
Very cool arrangement. I love the simplicity of the harp at the beginning and the end. The quiet break where she strums a few chords on the acoustic guitar could have seemed contrived but work perfectly here. And what an interesting voice! Clean and articulate most of the time but she can punch with it and growl a bit too. Very nice!
never clicked on anything this fast
never liked a video this fast!
I've got chills everywhere.
Please please please do a cover on Last Night by The Strokes! I can just imagine Frank Sinatra himself singing to this song!
yes!!
MARIS!!! so happy for/proud of you!!!
From the live stream!!!
Who else?
ToriBella! ✌
same
Scott Bradlee
hi Scott, love you
ToriBella! Were did they stream?
Moved to my number one spot on my list of favs from you so far. Very emotive!
I'd love to see the PMJ do these covers soon!
List:
"Handle with Care" by The Traveling Wilburys (a supergroup made up of ex-Beatles lead guitarist and singer George Harrison, Electric Light Orchestra's Jeff Lynne, Tom Petty (of The Heartbreakers), Bob Dylan and Roy Orbison)
"Say Say Say" by Paul McCartney and Michael Jackson
"You Got It" by Roy Orbison
Con PMJ ho trovato la mia giusta dimensione. Anche il mio cuore partecipa all'ascolto
Grazie Scott Bradlee
She looks as butch as Annie Lennox in "Sweet Dreams", her voice more precise than Adele, with the soul of Whitney Houston. Incredible talent!
Ok, I rarely do this, but this one deserves it: Thumbs up, comment and watching it on repeat until I hate it (right now I'd say like ... never?!). It's just ... amazing. The arrangement, the voice, the harp, the playfulness between silent parts and emotionally charged passages. Which album again? Definitely: Need!
Christian K. I take it it's still on repeat then?😉
Parton me, this sounds familiar.
Never thought anyone would ever come close to signing it as well as Dolly Parton. One of my favorite songs and Maris hit it out of the park. So much emotion. I have a new favorite PMJ song.
all 7 instruments used in this video have strings in them.
thats ur unimportant fact of the day
The only one cover of this beuatyfull song worth to listening to. 9.5/10. Great job !
I get it. You're all from the livestream..
I've never heard of livestream
How is it possibly I have been following PMJ for over 5 + years and have not heard this epic version of one of my most favorite songs.
Holy freaking moly....
JOLENE FOR FUCK SAKE.....JUST DON'T!!!!
Can't stop listen to this that's so beautifull
