What do I do if the gynecologist I went to gave me progestin to regain my periods (they haven't been regular since then) and said to wait 6 months until I can even think about getting an ultrasound to find out what's going on in my body? I was diagnosed with PCOS years ago, but nobody ever did anything to help me (and I was clueless to even think about where to begin or who to ask for help), and I was put on birth control and never was recommended to fertility clinics. I'm 31 now, and still having trouble getting anything moving along. I'm worried about why I'm not having periods, and i have no idea when I'm ever ovulating. I don't know how I'm supposed to approach doctors and be more demanding for what I want without being though of poorly. I guess mostly I just want to vent about this and maybe get some advice to know I'm not just alone in thinking no one cares. I appreciate your video and I wish more doctors knew about your information.

Hi Doctor! Over the years, it has appeared to me that the treatment for PSOS is the pill alone, instead of suggesting natural solutions of diet/exercise (metabolic treatment). What about checking Boron or Iodine levels? Do you see a change in treatments for PSOS nowadays vs 15-20 years ago?

You’re right that often people are offered birth control pills for PCOS because it treats symptoms like acne and hair growth and protects the uterus from endometrial cancer but they don’t ‘fix’ PCOS

Ten years ago, I got hit with PCOS at age 24, when I weighed 112 lbs, and while taking the pill. Back then, no one knew anything about PCOS, I complained to my doctor about the hair growth, anxiety, depression, and sleep issues, and she literally just told me I had PCOS and to keep taking the pill.
I blamed myself so hard for being so depressed and anxious, for literally a decade. My gut told me it was the PCOS, but I ignored it. Please ladies, Dr. Shahine’s advice to STOP blaming yourself is a very serious prescription. Listen to her!
Also, advocate for yourself. Everything I know about PCOS today, I had to learn by asking questions and reading everything I could. I even took bio and chem classes to understand the new information that concerned its various mechanisms, the hormones involved, the supplements.
I also agree with Dr. Shahine that, although I was taking pill when I got diagnosed, I don’t think the pill actually gave me PCOS. Diabetes runs pretty rampant on one side of my family, and I’d experienced a lot of crazy hormonal shifts in my teens. Weirdly, I still get my period every month, about every 28-32 days. I’m 34 and haven’t been on birth control for years.
My main PCOS indicator is, and has always been, that I have a high level of androgens (9.4 nanograms per decilitre).
Current treatment regiment: I just started taking a 40:1 supplement of myo-inositol and D-chiro-inositol, + 200mg of folic acid, and I’ve been taking 1 cup of organic spearmint tea twice daily for the past month. Spearmint is clinically proven to lower androgens levels while increasing your FSH levels, so that you can actually ovulate and squeeze out those eggs!
My goal this year is to lower my androgen levels from 9.4 ng/dL to 3.5 ng/dL.
