RUclips is adopting a TikTok recommendation algorithm, which is a good thing to get discovered, subscribers are not as important as they used to be years ago. What I noticed is that getting people to watch more than one of your videos, whether they subscribed or not, they’ll get your videos recommended even if you are a small creator.
Kind of... If you want to actually be monitized sub count and watch time still very important
We are finding it a little more difficult to get viewers to watch other vids on the channel after first visit.
@@thomaslthomas1506 this works best for niche specific channels, meaning one video closely related to the topic of another video.
RUclips realized that tiktok might been banned lol, so now they're adapting for the newcomers 😂

I think feeling discouraged is very normal and should be honored. I like to schedule a few minutes each week to embrace any negative or discouraging thoughts. Then back to work…

Awesome video as always. I am small RUclipsr, and I think that for small channels the most important thing is to get good presence from the beginning. If you are not popular, people won't care even if you have the best videos and the best content on platform. I am not beginner anymore, but I know how hard it can be (and honestly if I haven´t used a lot of Famester, I would have quit a long time ago. It made everything much easier for me, especially getting to 1000 subs and view hours).
What is "Famester"?
That is part of it, but you also have to create videos people would WANT to watch lmao.
I was up to 365 subs I got discouraged and deleted the channel. Now I regret it an have to start all over 😢😢😢😢😢
As a small creator with less than 200 subscribers, I’m excited to hear this. Growth has been so hard but I’m not giving up.
As a small YT channel (*2k subs), I have definitely noticed an increase in visibility on analytics. I have 100% noticed smaller creators on my feed (both mobile and desktop). I am glad that YT is moving in this direction. After nearly 5 years of consistency it feels like we are finally getting somewhere haha. Don't give up on your channel family! Keep going!

I m 6 years with this channel and 18 years with all my others Channels..but now This channel is the first that I feel that RUclips really want that my channel become really Big and now I have 16880 Subs and still is growing
I'm probably the smallest channel on YT. This is great info! I'm going to start into the long form space soon, but for now my videos are "shorts" or TT length. My retention rates on that other platform are horrible. The attention span over there is crazy short. I, know every creator thinks their own content is great, but I really do think mine is pretty good. Mine is centered around faith and despite that being a fairly large market here on this platform, I think it will do well once people find me. So far....only 2 have. But it's only been a couple weeks. My videos have blossomed in that time, since that's also the length of time I've been editing. Sounds scary to a viewer, I'm sure, but I think there very good considering. Shorts style content comes out every day after 5pm eastern, the long form stuff is probably going to be another couple months before I even attempt it. I've gotta figure out how to keep people in my videos longer than a couple seconds. I know I'm ugly, but my goodness...LOL
This new algorithm better get me trending after new songs I'll be dropping after months 👀🔥

It's 100% true that small channels are also being promoted on youtube's home feed. I can say this because I have only 80 subscibers but am getting more than 16k views in my video. I am still very tiny and have a long way to go, but i am very glad ATM and motivated to know that youtube is giving chance to a small creators like me. You're right; I've noticed this as well on my home feed. Currently am small creator with less than 1k subscriber, I create travel videos, and I've seen channels with fewer views and subscribers being promoted in my feed. I'm really glad RUclips is supporting these channels!

Thing I like about youtube is the fact you can build a community but this is not possible with short cause it works like instagram reels. I dont post too much shorts cause it ruins channels with long videos

I totally agree of the tip #4 - mindset! RUclips is a Marathon, not a 100m race. As a creator, no matter how small your channels are, just need to keep focus and never quit! Once you quit, you would never ever succeed. But if you keep posting good videos which viewers like, that day will come! Sean, great video as always! Thank you! 😄

“RUclips doesn’t like me”😂😂. Just started my channel last week and honestly wasn’t expecting much but I have one short that’s at 2.8k within 48hrs. Mind blown 🤯

Recently I uploaded short on valorant game! It was 2k views within 2days! I wasn’t expecting that! 😅 but it surprised me and also I was excited about it! 🥳💙
I've noticed this . And thought it was just me. I definitely see an opportunity for new creators. I love how you addressed negative thinking. Adopting a positive attitude helps you realize how much abundance is out there. RUclips wants viewers to stay on the platform.
My channel experienced huge growth the month of May. We did make some changes also that month. We had 6 videos break a 1000 views for the first time and one broke 2000 that were uploaded the month of may and still growing. We went from 15 subscribers to over 200 in one month. We did benefit from a new product releases related to our topic that we invested in to ride the wave of interest in those products.
I think this is a good thing!!! From a smaller RUclips channel I have been able to get my channel up, and running.
As a small and newer YT channel this is really exciting to hear! I've been seeing other small channels on my feed and it's awesome to know that YT is giving chances to small channels like me. Time to continue learning and hopefully growing! ❤ good luck everyone!!
Yes! I have seen A LOT of small channels pop up recently. I've even watched a few. I feel that it is a mix of creators and RUclips. RUclips is getting better at promoting new creators recently vs not really having a huge focus on it in the past AND the creator being able to successfully write good titles, create good thumbnails, create good content, have a hook, retain attention, and so much more! As you've said before, you just have to hit record and then keep learning and getting better because there are so many things you have to get better at and grow at to be a successful creator. Practice makes progress!! Also, it is about perspective. We have been been plugging away for 4 years now and have almost 8k subs, so we are still a small channel. BUT . . . when we started I saw several "professionals" say not to start a vlog channel because vlogs are dead. We did it anyway! I think creeping up on 8k, and still growing every day, is pretty good considering family vlogs are dead. LOL, but we are TENACIOUS! 😀

Most are crap at first. Most every successful content creators look at thier early work and cringe, if not delete it.
It takes time to get good. Embrace it and stop wasting time getting it ready. The sooner you fail and learn from it, the faster you can succeed. Waste your entire life trying to make a Masterpiece and you waste a lot of time.
@@WolfsHaven I totally agree and have recorded videos of me just talking. These are being edited now and the first one will be published as soon as I finish the edit. The demonstration and educational videos are only being planned at the moment and can't be recorded until I finish building my new workshop, so I decided to record talking videos to get out of my comfort zone and practice.
Thanks for the tips! My small channel gained 784 subscribers last week which is amazing. Checked my stats and traffic is coming from the home feed not the usual shorts. So many new people have left comments like, ‘how did I not see your channel?’ The door is open and I’m creating four videos this week to get as much as I can from this visibility. Let’s goooo! 😍

Tbh I don’t think it’s generous of RUclips. I think constantly boosting the same creators has been the downfall of IG. Now they’re working hard (even have ads on this video!) Trying to get ppl back on the platform and the crazy thing is - we didn’t leave IG. We still have it. We just don’t care about it. RUclips will be another if it doesn’t allow exposure for other creators.
Solid video. Mindset is not to be undermined, ever!! I'm a small channel and some videos do well, others don't. I don't understand at times, and in all honesty, I don't always think about the audience either...cause I do want to stay true to my passions and not just make a video to please a search based topic IF that's not something I want to do. Interests, passions, focus...they can change. For example, I have one video (from 2 years ago) that is gaining some traction (just a little), so all the RUclips guru's will tell me to double down on that. Reason I'm not is because I no longer make that type of art (I'm an acrylic painter). I used to do landscapes, then I really wanted to learn to paint realistic animals, so I pivoted and I don't really have the desire to do a similar landscape painting that is now seeming to get attention. Am I missing out on views and an opportunity? Yes...BUT...I"m ok with that. The last thing I want to do is work hard (paintings take time) and spend time on something that I don't feel like doing, so I'll take the slower growth and fewer views and will not complain, lol.
I love this mindset. I've changed formats a couple of times too. Along the way I'm getting to know myself. Even though growth is slow I learn something every time, and i think that's a win!
Here’s something that made a huge difference in my channel. I only have 6 full length videos so it’s been some trial and error for me to guess why my 1st video got 700+ views and the next around 250 and the next two only in the 100s. I do bullet journal art plan with me videos so titles/thumbnails are very similar each month with just the art varying. What I think I’ve discovered, is that my audience likes videos around 15 minutes in length (which my first video was and subsequent videos were longer). Since keeping my videos just under 15 minutes, my last two videos saw way more views and are in the 400’s for views, which is great for me! So idk if that’ll help anyone but I think some niches have average lengths of videos (mine is a very specific but fairly popular niche) that people are willing to watch for new creators. Lots of trial and error but it’s been fun to feel like I’ve unlocked a new level of what my audience is looking for! Best of luck to everyone! ❤

This happened to me with my first video too. And then out of nowhere and after like 14 videos, it picked up for another round. I also drew learnings from it, from the topic, structure and audience, and that has helped. I think there's something to be said about that first video as well though. Like, it was probably the most authentic because it was the first and you probably didn't think anyone would watch xx
I can confirm that youtube has been pushing us smaller creators. I recently came back to RUclips 5 months ago and i only had 100-200 subscribers. As of now i been posting consistently and i been noticing a lot of my videos starting to gain a lot of viewership. Im around 600 now and most of my videos now are averaging around 1.6-5k views now.

That's actually true. I used to think that the RUclips algorithm hates me, I almost gave up. But since I started focusing the viewers, I've noticed improvement
I've noticed a lot of smaller channels being recommended for a few months now, but I thought RUclips started doing this only to me because one day I searched for one video from one smaller channel. I thought that searching for one smaller video must've convinced RUclips to start showing me other small channels and that I was the only one seeing this.
This came after several years of only being recommended videos with 50k+ views from channels with 100k+ subscribers. Good to see they're actually trying to help smaller channels gain more exposure.

Absolutely been seeing it the last few weeks. A bunch of super small channels with less than 1K subscribers! And I also noticed a bunch of the big channels views going down massively on new videos. It appeared to me RUclips is trying to recruit the new generation of big channels, as many long term channels mature and video creators retire from RUclips. That’s my take on it.
I think this is a perfect time for a new wave of creators to get traction!

Holy crap the value in this on mindset. So extremely true. Victimizing yourself only slows you down.
I’m at 1600 subs. I’m okay with that. I’ve crossed that threshold, now I needed to get watch time.
And I started to get JUST THAT!
Here’s what I did:
- unlisted all of my 300+ RUclips shorts. They didn’t move the needle for me.
- monetized (via patreon) half of my videos (as they offered something unique)
- doubling down on my regular content using 2 methods:
1. Selfish content. Videos that I enjoy making.
2. Unselfish content. Videos I know my viewers want.
So I have 3 audiences. Me, my normal viewers. And my paid viewers.
By doing this, this allows me to have great watch time. Sometimes (most of the time) this stuff overlaps!
And I win.
My best advice. Find at least 3 ways to present your content uniquely. And have fun.
I promise you the growth and watch time will take care of itself.
Oh, forget shorts! They are channel killers.
Yes, “New Creators” not EXISTING CREATORS. I’ve studied about four to five channels including mine lately and have proven across all geographies that RUclips algorithm will push your new channel “madly” about 3 months building to the point of monetisation then once you’re monetised, they push your channel for three weeks or so and leaves you to your fate, you then almost break your back trying to get views. You’ll soon understand the subscriber count that 3 Months push have accumulated barely counts.
Then you try to apply all tips taught on how to grow your channel only to discover your videos didn’t really blew because of the titles and descriptions you optimized as preached across RUclips but because the algorithm PUSHED your videos and channel those three months.
Think Media and other channels dedicated to RUclips growth should consider addressing this on a video.
Exactly. It’s like a cable company for instance. They will give NEW customers excellent deals that aren’t available to loyal EXISTING customers that have been with them for years! Take care and best wishes for your channel.

My channel is pretty small, but honestly, I get excited if I even have one new subscriber, or I see that a video is getting a lot of plays, because I know that someone is enjoying what I am putting out there. I never started on RUclips to make money.That has never been a goal to be monetized. I just love talking about this thing that I love and use in my live every day since I was 13. It is my personal fascination and my friends nagged me into making a channel. I enjoy making vids. If I didn't I wouldn't still be on here making stuff. Last year at this time, I had something like 23 subs, this morning I am at 382, which is huge for me. I was stuck at one number for months, and in the last month I have watched that number make a solid leap. For a while I was seeing the number stay the same, even though I was getting new subs, but I had the same number of unsubs each month. But that did not bother me either. It just means my audience is being refined, and those that appreciate what I do are the ones watching. If I was seeing zero growth, that might have me rethinking what I am doing. But I am seeing consistent growth, which is cool
YES! I’m getting small channels recommended and it makes me soooo happy. I watch, like and comment to support them. I’m a very small channel posting once per week since January. Week 24 coming up! This new initiative is very encouraging! I’m taking all these tips and taking advantage of this amazing opening. It's a good thing. Big channels are way too relaxed this days, putting out average content cuz they know youtube will push them automatically

"Complaining is a waste of time and energy. Focus on getting better." Quote of the day. I've got a full-time day job, a side hustle, and I'm very actively involved in my church. Not to mention a couple of active boys and a responsibility to lead my family well. Time is precious, and I'm doing my best to carve out time to learn and grow with video. Slow-going, but that's how it's going to be until priorities can shift a bit. I've hit on a couple of things that the algorithm seems to like in my Shorts. Trying to capitalize on that for now.

For those of us who are just getting started I think is very important to remember to stay true to our positionning and try to perform in that niche even when it is hard and that we are tempted to go all over the place (content wise) just to have subscribers and views.
1. Be clear on your positionning
2. create authentic and genuine content
3. Persevere
4. Seek to improve but remain coherent with your positionning
5. Hopefully you start to reach more people and the right people
Just stay focused and dedicated guys . Stay positive and create your channel the best way you can. Go get it!
I still get plenty of big name creators, but the minute I search a niche topic, and watch more than one of those, they show up consistently on my feed.

They should also add a "Sort by Least Popular" feature for channels. So you can see a RUclipsr's least viewed videos.

I’m excited to hear this! I feel like I’ve gotten plenty of support from the RUclips wizards! My impressions are increasing with each video and I’m having consistent growth. I went from 57 subs to over 400 in just 5 weeks. Now I need to work on watch time hours. But overall I’m very pleased with how things are going for me…being a new content creator working the system part time. 👍💯

I must have got an email from Think about this because I heard it in Friday. I opened my YT app to see if I had small channel recommendations. I had 5 or 6 and only one of them caused me to watch it. Its content got that channel a subscription from me.
Biggest takeaway is to be humble and always keep learning about what other people want, and how I can make their lives better. It's not about me, it's about what other people need that they aren't getting elsewhere. The analytics tool is so powerful for discovering that. Learn from it! It's a great teacher.

I started my channel in March and it has been growing really nicely, RUclips has helped me access a very particular niche, and it's so lovely to observe them chatting to each other in the comments, it gives me so much feedback and insight on them. My intention has been to put content out that feels true. I deliberately don't ask people to subscribe and I also don't drive the channel from anywhere. I summarise the content of the video in the title. So far, it's pure audio and text, nothing else. I get lots of comments saying "The content was very timely", "I have never seen your channel", "I didn't mean to click on your video". Thanks for this insight. What I have learned is that the purpose of subscriptions is to remind people to watch, but it doesn't at all reflect how many people watch and their level of interest.
I just started a new channel two weeks ago… very niched. One of the newest long form videos has 400+ views & today it has 111 subs. There’s no way that would have happened without YT pushing it. It’s exciting. I’m going to focus on evergreen content there & finish going through your VRA course so I can do this correctly! 🎉
My channel grew to 750+ subs in 5 weeks! Insane, but I’m thankful 🙌🏼

RUclips has been incredibly supportive! As a small creator, I’ve found RUclips to be the most effective platform for reaching a wide audience. The analytics tools are invaluable, and with dedication and the right strategies, success is within reach. I recognize that my growth could have been even greater with more consistent content creation-that's on me. The potential is there, and being adaptable is key if things aren’t working out.
anyone else notice how on the home page, on the bottom left, is ALWAYS one of those crappy ai generated videos? With titles and captions that dont make much sense? Like why not fill that spot with smaller creators instead?

Revealing (not pushing) small channels (*cough* All Things Film) is beneficial for both RUclips and the small channels. It gives the small channels incentive to create more content and opens the possibility that their channel can grow faster with the enhanced exposure. And it helps RUclips by increasing it's value with the new algorithm. This is great news if it becomes the norm. (Crossing virtual fingers).
P.S. Yes, I too, also noticed that I was clicking on videos to watch, that happened to be from small channels. It gave me new hope for my own small channel.

So far, I'm not seeing small channels on my home feed yet. It still looks like larger channels, but I hope to see this. It would be quite encouraging for me. I'm continuing to improve my content. Man, some of my old thumbnails were HORRIBLE and I thought they were good when I first started.🤣 I've actually been going back and changing old thumbnails. I haven't seen the results of that yet, but I do believe if I keep increasing the value of what I offer hopefully I will end up as one of those small channels that gets recommended on the home page. I look forward to that day, in fact! I always choose optimism, 'cause the alternative is just self-indulgent and a drag.
As a small creator I am seeming our followers and views slowly coming up. I am still learning about media creation. And I thank think media for educating me for what I have accomplished so far.
Do you know what I wish, as a British Female content creator? I wish that YT would release a feature where we could post images in comments showing how totally bipolar their algorithm is. You know, so you can prove that it is totally illogical to claim that it reads our metadata when it then decides from that to place a video on completely the WRONG NICHE autoplay suggested 'up next', and then totally tank it based on the fact that those people clicked straight back out since they are not interested in our niche. Thus they demolished any retention rate you have, giving the impression your video isn't liked. To add insult to injury, most of these videos I'm getting placed on are not even English speaking videos, let alone English speaking countries! My latest video is already tanking big style, as I could have predicted. I can also predict the plethora of MALE spammers I get every time I mention this telling me how great my content is, but I have ZERO SEO, on my 100% SEO titles, descriptions and tags. Not only that, but this latest video, with 17 views here, has had 159 on Tik-Tok in less time, and I have virtually nothing on there, and 1 follower 🙄 Recommendations? YT wastes a HUGE amount of space suggesting content to me I have never, and would never show any interest in. When I search for something they give me maybe THREE USA based videos, regardless of the fact I've probably asked for UK based. The rest will be 'for you' totally unrelated and a ton of videos I've already watched, WHY? Then 'people also watched' also unrelated to my search, but I don't care what others watched. Just fill my feed with EXACTLY what I searched for, because their very broken search feature is not doing that for me as a viewer, so it's also not doing its job as a content placement tool either. However, VidIQ, that you're promoting, are great at trope trotting and creator blaming for this nonsense. Impressions you're talking about are totally worthless when those people are not from our niche, so again, it's Creator blaming to suggest it's always a fault on our part we're not getting the click through from the impressions. It would help if the lunatic algorithm would place our content in front of the correct people in the first place to at least give us a fighting chance. How do I know this? I'm intelligent enough to be able to compare my analytics from the videos that do well, and those that don't.
I have to say I did come to your channel for advice about my small RUclips channel but I ended up listening to you and it was like God was sending me a message through you about something else. I want thank you because yes you were talking about RUclips and positive thinking and how to change your mindset but that Advice what for me in a court case and I want to say thank you God bless you🙏🏽

The last 30 days or so I’ve received multiple notices from RUclips that a channel I subscribe to just uploaded a new video. The strange thing about this is I’ve already watched the video days before. Strange.

Lots of bugs on the app lately. I will post a comment and the text will still be in the editor as of if I didn’t post the comment. I have also watched a long video, I clicked on a short while it went to commercial and made a comment and the comment posted on a completely different video that had nothing to do with my comment. 😂. RUclips is bugging out.
I have been seeing small channels show up on my feed and I believe the strategy is to get them to reach the goal of being monetized as well as channels that are under 10k to push the videos to get more views so it helps grow the channels as well as more ads get shown so everyone is making money .
