I think it depends more on the car, the days of that old backseats save you insurance seems gone. Went from a Mustang to a Corvette, the Corvette has considerably cheaper insurance and it's only a 2 seater. If you ever check out some of the stats put out my the car insurance companies on cars with the most injuries and expensive repairs I do see stuff like the 350/370z on there a lot as well as Mustangs and Camaros. Just gotta pick cars that don't constantly get in crashes or cost a fortune to fix if they get in a collision!
@@notlNSIGHT Fun fact: The MKV looks like the MKIV more than any supra in existence. Also, there was a reason why they used BMW's alternative to the 2JZ, aka the B58. It's the only modern production I6 performance engine at the current moment. Why didn't Toyota make their own engine? Because it would be a waste making a whole new engine for only one model. The 2JZ was used on the MKIV, the Altezza, and the IS300. BMW uses the B58 for the 335i, GR Supra, and the Z4 S Drive 2020.

What good is all that tech when a "low tech" 911 GT3 is faster, grippier, better responding, more practical, ~600lb lighter, and _less expensive to buy_. @Raschaud Farmer And I am no Euro fanboy; I picked my TLX over similarly priced German offerings. Buying an Acura over a lease spec BMW makes sense; buying an NSX over a 911 GT3/Turbo or R8/Gallardo/AMG GT/etc. etc. does not.

I completely agree about the use of the Camry v6..... it’s exactly the reason why I want one, it’s one of the few sports cars you daily drive without worrying.
The rear "seats" are a joke, but the good thing is that you can also buy the Evora as a "2+0", which will cost less than the 2+2 model and have them replaced with a shelf for additional cargo area; also, this will cut out some kilos in weight from the car too.
I don't think if you can (truly...) afford one of these cars you wouldn't have problems in paying the additional registration costs linked to owning a "pure" 2-seats. Fact is, if you can register it as a 2+2 the potential market is expanded to those that can barely afford to lease them, and this is why they still made cars with these back "in-name-only" seats.
Another cool thing about buying the 2+2 is if you track the car you can pull the rear seats and utilize the seat mounting points for a bolt on harness/roll bar (it's already got the Recaro seats for a harness from the factory)! This will not work on the 2+0
The thing I've always loved about the Evora that Doug didn't mention (perhaps because it's not on ALL of them) is that black trim piece that sits between the wheels on either side. The way it tends to fade into the shadow beneath the vehicle makes it so that you can almost forget that that's a part of the vehicle. If you imagine that it's not, it gives the Evora this aggressive, haunched stance that wouldn't be practical for a sports car (you want that flat bottom low to the ground) but looks so damn cool. Lotus really put a lot of amazing designwork into the beauty aspect of this car, and while I know that isn't all there is to care about, it does make quite a statement when it rolls down the street.
"I never thought something with a Toyota Camry engine could be so appealing " Um Doug, there's a reason the Camry is the most selling vehicle in the US
That was exactly what I was thinking. My brother once hid his weed in the gasoline cap. When the cop stopped us, they went through the car's interior but never bother to check the gasoline cap. I am just wondering if the gasoline smell can hide the weed from a K9 dog. Probably not, but then again, most cops don't normally have a drug sniffing dog with them.
Hey Doug, I live about 2 minutes away from Patterson where you were driving the lotus. I have few cars you might be interested in. I have an 08 Shelby gt500kr. 1938 BMW 320. A 57 502 and a few others. If you wanna stop by let me know.
I just think he has ZERO experience with physical exercise and therefore has terrible muscle control. He gets into back seats and tight cars like he's 70 years old and had trouble hopping into the bed of a few pick up trucks he's reviewed. When he wears shorts and T-shirts you can see that his muscles are barely developed at all. He probably didn't even play on any kind of sports team as a young child even.
Always liked the Evora, far too much is made of the whole "Camry engine" thing when as you say - it's a super reliable engine that is more than powerful enough for this car. It's got most of the appeal of the Elise but is far easier to live with, it's got great looks, it's pretty affordable and from an engineering POV the chassis is pretty impressive.
Love the Evora. I've had an Elise (a bit home made feeling) but a fantastic drive, and a Boxster, super quality product made out of granite. The Evora is the perfect mix of (quite) well made/solid feeling and excellent fun to drive. Lotus's have the look of the coolest cars on the road too!
It's worth mentioning that the 0-60 time of 4 seconds you mentioned was with a 345hp/295lb-ft Evora "S" (video car) or the Evora "400" but not the base Evora. The base Evora makes 276hp/258lb-ft and is closer to 5 seconds 0-60 (4.8 according to Car and Driver vs 4.3 for both the "S" and "400" models).
You need to review the Evora 400 and contrast how much better it is than the standard car now that you have driven it. The exhaust sound out of the 400 is bonkers. The best statement in the review was your highlight that's the engine is not exotic in the normal sense and that is a GOOD thing for the second hand market that want to actually drive the cars. I'd be shocked if anyone could hear the 400 in person or even video and say it doesn't sound like a pure bread exotic.
the 400 will be much better but this first generation is also fantastic for the price. Evora 400 cost $100k plus. I have a 2013 Evora IPS and I had to change the exhaust for proper exotic sound.
Charlie Brown 100% agree and want to clarify that I was in no way taking away from the great car evora is in any form. Enjoy your car knowing I would love to add one to my garage. Lotus really opened a new door with Evora and it will only get better if people just cross shop all their options.
The button that opens the truck clearly opens the truck, and that’s the first thing that came to mind when I saw it Doug... Especially considering the evora’s wing doesn’t even look like it goes up
It might have a Camry block, and some shared Camry engine parts, but it’s got completely different internals, making it be able to reliably rev super high and to give it better acceleration and more of a cool noise. Taking a motor directly out of a Camry and slapping a supercharger on it will def not be the same, is what I’m getting at.
... probably McLaren SPY Lotus... the Evora has the same base of the 90's Lotus Elise, that still in production today after 21 years (the first one was released in 1996). :D
Ahhhhh When Im out of school I need to buy one of these.... This is ridiculously simple. The interior is SO basic, I love it. Omg. Doug, you have me sold man!
same my exact thoughts. and theyre going for under $40k now so its not THAT bad for a pretty slick ride. it looks cool, and has the best performance you can get in the price range outside of muscle cars
Gregory Kanniard what about the 2JZ, the best time tuner engine?
6 лет назад+11
A random Russian Frog .. We know bout the 2jz.. Doug was talking in terms of acceleration from a stock toyota.. Remember, a stock Supra was not all that fast.
My beautiful and amazing mistress Porsche is rear engine, not mid. Mid engine Porsches I.e. Boxster, Cayman, Carrera GT, do not have back seats. This is the only mid engine car with a back seat.
My beautiful and amazing mistress MK Ultra is correct. The 911's engine is behind the rear axle (rear engine), not between the axles (mid engine). The 718s and 918 don't have a backseat and the rest are front engine.
Lotus used to be British through and through but like most of our 'better cars' now sold, (currently owned by the Chinese, Geely). I am an old dude but owned 5 in my days! Elan Sprints and Europa's, great moments.
It's not a Camry engine. It's a Toyota V6 from some Australian car that uses a Toyota V6. It's slightly different. Either way it's still going to be super reliable, even with the supercharger.
The Evora is in lower numbers, its just as fast and looks nicer, and its Lotus driving dynamics, which is one of the strong points of lotus in general. The M2 is great, and although it is limited now, they are not a limited production car, so eventually will depreciate. Buy a used Evora and you have saved in some of the depreciation. Once depreciation hits the Evora will hold value more than the M2. Im a fan of Lotus, I had the Elise and it is a fantastic little car. I have had, E46 M3, E92 M3, F82 M4 and now the M2. The best driving M is the E46 M3, and still not better than an Elise in driving dynamics. Evora is definitely a good consideration when wanting driving dynamics, looks.
Seeing those indicator stalks reminded me of my ‘84 Ford Fiesta and the mirror controls, the countless Escorts (Focus predecessor in the UK), Mondeos and Transit vans I’ve driven over the years. I’m really looking forward to the nice bit Lotus will soon be able to borrow from the Volvo parts bin now they are both part of the Geely group.
The key is actually borrowed from Jaguar and is also used in Ford Transits! Another fun fact is that you can use an uncut key to lock any Ford or Jag that uses the same type of key!
"its British, so it might catch on fire at any time..." Yes, just like other British made cars, like Bentleys, Jaguars, Aston Martins etc. Terrible cars. If only it had the quality and reliablility of American cars, like Cadillacs and Chryslers...
Lotus should of utilized the Honda J-35Y2. That's a wonderfully underrated engine that is seriously built strong. Add a centrifugal supercharger while still maintaining a 3000lbs weigh limit and all of sudden you're encroaching into super car territory with bullet proof reliability.
Fun part about the key, is the metal "code" bit itself. That is the exact same key bit that is used in European Ford cars since the late 80's to late 90's.
Hi Doug, the back seats are NOT for passengers. They are, as you heard from the owner, for kids under say 7. Owners like myself, who want a sporty car like the Emira, or even a Ferrari or McLaren, but have children, it doesnt make sense, nor would the wife approve, such a purchase, if I cant take my daughter to school in it. The hero we need
Just wait until Donald get to know about that...
I’m gonna be 100% honest. Side view looks like a ford GT. Not even gonna lie
Thomas Skinner It looks more like an SF90 Stradale
Hey Doug, I live about 2 minutes away from Patterson where you were driving the lotus. I have few cars you might be interested in. I have an 08 Shelby gt500kr. 1938 BMW 320. A 57 502 and a few others. If you wanna stop by let me know.
me too! sound like great cars
Max Rockatansky yes I did email him and he emailed back. He said I'm on a spreadsheet if he's ever in the area again. Hope to see him.
Dominic rached Are those in Match Box toys?
Dominic rached Yeah, he put you on the "spreadsheet" because he knows your full of shit, but didn't have the heart to call your ass out.
looser
Damn you were pushing those buttons on the key hard as hell!
Yess i found someone who noticed
Yea, I’ve noticed that’s in his videos. He mashes or jolts things for some reason. Perhaps to emphasize “this is how you press down a button”.

@@moogle68 Dude was half of this even neccessary?💀
Always liked the Evora, far too much is made of the whole "Camry engine" thing when as you say - it's a super reliable engine that is more than powerful enough for this car.
It's got most of the appeal of the Elise but is far easier to live with, it's got great looks, it's pretty affordable and from an engineering POV the chassis is pretty impressive.
The ultimate road Evora produced 430hp... That same engine has found its way into the new Emira too.
That front end is similar to the new GT. From the side at least. Pretty cool
Doug; I worked at the Lotus factory, and once I got a lift home in the back seat, though I had to lay across it!
It didn't occur to anyone at the design team, that most human beings have things called legs, so they should leave some room to them?
@@MetalTrabant Because of the back seats the car can be registered as a 2+2 instead of a regular 2 seated which means cheaper insurance.
@@jackass5066 Ah, the good old insurance tricks... that can explain this indeed.
@@MetalTrabant If you have a toddler or go on double dates with a dwarf couple this rear seat are perfectly fine.
Teach me how to Dougie ;)
Jeffrey's Daddy he will show you his quirks
Jeffrey's Daddy teach me how to expose jr garage ;)
Dude ,you are everywhere.
Sometime soon Chris, sometime soon
Jeffrey's Daddy Lotus for next Doug car.
Why british might catch on fire? Isn”t that italian?
I was wondering that too.
Pretty sure less popular British brands were known for being notoriously unreliable a few decades ago.
Italy is in Europe
sam yup and?
some old british marques unreliable is probably fair - but not fire issues. As stefan says that's more an italian car thing ;-)
I'd cry if lotus went bankrupt, their cars are so pretty.
Also I want this Evora, and badly.
Now owned by Geeley a Chinese giant. All good now - especially with the Emira being released.
The button that opens the truck clearly opens the truck, and that’s the first thing that came to mind when I saw it Doug...
Especially considering the evora’s wing doesn’t even look like it goes up
Thanks Doug, you introduced me to a car I want more than I've ever wanted one.
I've always loved the styling elements of the Evora, its one of my favorite Lotuses
Well it's been specifically tuned by Lotus. So total different ecu setup. The transmissions different too same with ips version

I spy a Mclaren?
Was thinking an Aventador.
exactly, I did as well. Cool color.
same
rob
... probably McLaren SPY Lotus... the Evora has the same base of the 90's Lotus Elise, that still in production today after 21 years (the first one was released in 1996). :D
Alex Johnson I think it probably is a lamborghini gallardo...
7:08 entirely different car with the same engine.
Doug just can't make fun of any car anymore. No matter how bad it is (not saying the Evora is bad) he loves it.
jpiercevids Let him get another trabant
I fell in love with these cars when I got Gran Turismo 4 for Playstation 2.

How can you tell he's black?
Never had this acceleration from a Toyota? Ummm.... Supra?
The fastest Supra was 0-60 in 4.5. A modern Civic Type R and Focus RS are faster than the Supras. They're nothing but relics at this point
New Supra is coming. I think the introduction is at the Geneva auto show in March 8-18th, 2018.
Gregory Kanniard what about the 2JZ, the best time tuner engine?
A random Russian Frog .. We know bout the 2jz.. Doug was talking in terms of acceleration from a stock toyota.. Remember, a stock Supra was not all that fast.
Nevtmind then
That exquisite '97 Focus '00 Mondeo Lotus badged keyfob.
Lol his Elise had a Toyota engine too. The 2ZZ-GE was out of the Corolla XRS/Celica GT-S/Vibe GT
All of the Lotus we've had in the USA since '05 have had Toyota engines.
1:55 "Why don't they just put labels on them?" Answer: weight savings.
Hahahaha. Exactly!
I dunno, to me the Evora is one of the prettiest cars ever produced.
Cody Rush to me it looks like a mix between a McLaren and Ferrari.
In the car, driving, Doug is the Quentin Tarantino of car reviewers
No he's talented
this video is so much better then the modern days Doug. energy, jokes and passion. and you don't even want to put the speed up to 1.5x
The Evora: the only MR-engine car with a backseat. Is there anything else?
remove back seats, insert subwoofer, win
jookya2 it has a factory sub in the back
install a bigger one
My beautiful and amazing mistress Porsche is rear engine, not mid. Mid engine Porsches I.e. Boxster, Cayman, Carrera GT, do not have back seats. This is the only mid engine car with a back seat.
My beautiful and amazing mistress MK Ultra is correct. The 911's engine is behind the rear axle (rear engine), not between the axles (mid engine). The 718s and 918 don't have a backseat and the rest are front engine.
Haha! Now I can steal Lotus Evora owners' wiper fluid! Now, time to find a Lotus Evora.
3 years later.
FUCK.
Lotus used to be British through and through but like most of our 'better cars' now sold, (currently owned by the Chinese, Geely). I am an old dude but owned 5 in my days! Elan Sprints and Europa's, great moments.
I am absolutely addicted to your videos man you're funny as shit
It's not a Camry engine. It's a Toyota V6 from some Australian car that uses a Toyota V6. It's slightly different. Either way it's still going to be super reliable, even with the supercharger.
Its an V6 from the Aurion
Always thought the lotus had the greatest supercar looks to price ratio, especially the Elise, looks fantastic but you can get one for a song
Thinking of selling My 2017 BMW M2 to get an Evora, just a sexy car!
JoTokutora u cray
JoTokutora that's stupid
What is your argument?
JoTokutora it's definitely a downgrade, even a boxter would be a step down, considering that they're all flat 4's now
The Evora is in lower numbers, its just as fast and looks nicer, and its Lotus driving dynamics, which is one of the strong points of lotus in general.
Could you take the super charger off the Evora and put it on a a v6 Camry
James Martin thanks mang
I had a '99 Toyota Solara TRD which was basically a 2 door camry and it had a V6 with a supercharger from the factory.
That's awesome man. I always liked the Camry Solaras. Especially the convertible top models. I didn't know they made a supercharged model.
Peter Martyniuk yuck, solaras all look like giant beached whales
The second gen Solaras did have a big ass... but the 99-01 ones werent that bad.
The absolute accurate illustration of a 'garage super-car', very put together from everything
Lotus is amazing everybody who says it isn't should buy a Lotus and see how it is
Agree 1000%!
Try 440i and come back again
@@김동준-t9p 440i is the suck
440i is a tank. Lotus handles far more sweetly, uses much less fuel. A true driver's car.
This way at least someone will buy a lotus.
Damn 1.2k views and uploaded 13 minutes ago, Doug I think you might be on to something
LT Guile hes on the lotus evora😕
Seeing those indicator stalks reminded me of my ‘84 Ford Fiesta and the mirror controls, the countless Escorts (Focus predecessor in the UK), Mondeos and Transit vans I’ve driven over the years.
I’m really looking forward to the nice bit Lotus will soon be able to borrow from the Volvo parts bin now they are both part of the Geely group.

"It pops the trunk"
that's the nicest Camry I've ever seen
Ale p it's an engine, would you call a mclaren F1 which goes over 240 mph a BMW?
Jake Deane that's the joke genius
Jake Deane fuckin spoon
The key is actually borrowed from Jaguar and is also used in Ford Transits! Another fun fact is that you can use an uncut key to lock any Ford or Jag that uses the same type of key!
"its British, so it might catch on fire at any time..."
Yes, just like other British made cars, like Bentleys, Jaguars, Aston Martins etc. Terrible cars.
If only it had the quality and reliablility of American cars, like Cadillacs and Chryslers...
yes, exactly like those. and land rovers too
***** ah yes, land rover's, legendarily unreliable. Set on fire all the time...
LukeyPook didn't Chrysler have like the shittiest reliability the last few years
Gav Com T'was the joke
Steven A1998 shit I didn't read it correctly
Another video where Doug finds completely obvious things to be confusing, quirks, etc.
Shocking.
I did the Lotus factory tour last summer. All hand assembled. Pretty neat to see how they are put together.
Lotus should of utilized the Honda J-35Y2. That's a wonderfully underrated engine that is seriously built strong. Add a centrifugal supercharger while still maintaining a 3000lbs weigh limit and all of sudden you're encroaching into super car territory with bullet proof reliability.
You’re gay
Joey Arthur Zooberry
You are gay too
go check out the ever 400,410,430 theyre practically supercars with the superchargers on this Camry engine
that intro was so Top Gear-esque, Jeremy Clarkson style writing
My camry does 0-60 in 4.5 sec Just have aem intake, r9k tune, sticky tires and coilovers. Idk why people hate camrys. i love mine.
I really adore this car. Would take one over many a car that cost 3 or even 4 times the price. This is way, waaaaay better than a Cayman.
Simon Coles no baby! Porsche is bae🤤
Wilfred BMW 1M smokes both the Cayman & Evora and it's much cheaper and more practical.
i'd rather not have a car that is so damn common. I see M's every day
Wilfred You see M cars everyday but not the 1M... It's a limited edition and as a bonus it won't depreciate like other M cars.
Even so, they are so god damn average looking ! To blan for my taste . An m6 is a lot nicer
He should review the lotus evora 400
Which one is better evora 400 or evora s
Y'boy Doug, still rocking the white undershirt beneath his T-shirt every day. Gotta respect that consistency.
@ 5:09 I live in New Port Richey, that car would probably get stolen between here, Holiday, or Hudson
Fun part about the key, is the metal "code" bit itself. That is the exact same key bit that is used in European Ford cars since the late 80's to late 90's.
Doug loves talking with his hands
Alternative speed = fake speed ... hehe
Warrior Son trump speed 😪
I get all my alternative fact needs from my favorite fair and balanced news station.
A speed based on the metric system which makes being smart easy
You don't use the metric system, the joke's on you!
ezar howard Trump's administration guys drive these cars
Hi Doug, the back seats are NOT for passengers. They are, as you heard from the owner, for kids under say 7. Owners like myself, who want a sporty car like the Emira, or even a Ferrari or McLaren, but have children, it doesnt make sense, nor would the wife approve, such a purchase, if I cant take my daughter to school in it. I would buy the Emira right now if it had back seats, but since it doesnt, ill be buying one of these first.
Hey snoop dougie dougie douggg
Ali Afsari and doctor dre at the door
