China’s reform and opening-up policies began 40 years ago, resulting in decades of rapid economic growth that has given rise to the world’s second-biggest economy. Growing wealth on the mainland has presented opportunities and challenges for the entertainment industry in Hong Kong - a former British colony which is now a Special Administrative Region of China.
The South China Morning Post spoke Liza Wang, an industry veteran who has over the decades seen Hong Kong shift from regional entertainment leader into playing a more supporting role.

Rita Chen Maybe you are right but you cannot prove it because China do not have a open democratic elections where each and single Chinese citizens go out and vote for their political party and president . So what you type is your own assumption and also cannot be proven to represent 1.4 billion people 😜 And even if I give you the benefit of the doubt that mainlanders are contented with the communist system, many in Hk are certainly not happy with the communist system so the only way to check it is to have an open election coordinated with overseas observers . And the last thing you should really do is to have an analytical mind . Anti - communist system doesn’t mean anti-Chinese , all overseas Chinese love Chinese culture but do not necessarily have to love the communist party . Also please stop associating economic progress with the CCP , the CCP has successfully lifted mainlander Chinese out from poverty level to middle class, which is an incredible feat but it doesn’t mean that the democratic model couldn’t do it , look at USA , it has never been under the communist model and embraces freedom of speech but still today it is still the largest economy in the world .

Well said! In addition, there are plenty of governmental and private housings in Hong Kong. One estate/court/private residence contains several buildings. Each building has over 20 floors and more than 3 flats. It is not possible that all these floors and flats are bought by Chinese. Instead, a lot of them are actually bought and lived by Hong kongers. So, Hong Kong's inhabitants should stop blame Chinese people for buying all the residence and selling them for a higher price. The truth is that there are actually many rich people who keeps a relatively low profile in Hong Kong and therefore has the money to afford more than one apartment.

Hong Kong Chinese are influenced by the BRITISH in every aspect of life say for real eg. fundamental liberty, how the West Democrat treat or define freedom is different compare to a communist based country like China.
So, I can totally comprehend why Hong Kong people fight against China.
Its easy for an influential person with monies and power in Hong Kong to say oh yes, I support China.

When Hong Kong was ceded to Britain by the Manchurian government in 1842, it became a British colony. Britain would send a British governor to rule Hong Kong so that their interests would be served first, & the economic gains from HK would be sent back to the UK.
In 1983, Deng Xiao Ping's success in having HK returned to China by July 1, 1997 after serious negotiations with Margaret Thatcher will shine in history as new China's rightful protection of its territorial integrity & restorative assertiveness, after the era ( 1830's to 1949 ) of foreign invasion & aggression.

China spreading its ideology? What ideology exactly? As far as i know, the west are actively spreading its own idea of democracy. They have government funded organization to push democracy into every corner of the world, the Americans would even invade countries in the name of spreading democracy. I've not seen China do anything similar at all. Mind you Taiwan and HK is part of China despite they have conflict of ideology and governance, but i wouldn't call that a spread of ideology. China simply just want to reclaim those lands, its actually that straightforward.

funny thing is Hong Kong is actually more superstitious and spiritual than the mainland han people in many ways because they were more protected from the cultural revolution's destruction of traditional chinese culture in favour of modernism.
to this day the only thing I really dislike about the central party is its poor job in preserving traditional chinese culture in the face of industrialism and economic prosperity, and the fact that it's actively trying to phase out any Chinese language other than mandarin and trying to erase cultures like in Xinjiang and replacing them with a single national identity rather than preserving and celebrating all the wonderful diversity it has. u don't have to like the central communist party to love your Chinese identity, but boy does it sometimes make it harder

They've seen what happened to the Baltic States and the Middle Eastern countries with different ethnic groups/backgrounds that are weakly held together. The fear is understandable, as history shows the CIA/MI6 will try to sow discord between the different groups to split up the country. Although, I do agree with you that their methods are rather heavy handed, and I also agree is the wrong approach. I feel the greatest irony is that they probably won't allow the diversity to exist until they've completely stamped it out.... in which they'll try to bring it back.

There is a saying generally people when young are liberal and as they get older becomes more conservative. Young people generally are naive and see the world through rainbows but age brings wisdom and sees how compromises and small inconvenience are needed in any working healthy society. It's not a unicorn roaming lala land!!
But alas some people live in lala land forever.

If no mainland of China open the door to abroad in 1978. Then no HK’ s development .Hong Kong got luck not because of the British , Hong Kong got lucky because of China and the role that China was performing. After WTO then China increasingly . All company of abroad want go to the market of mainland of China then they will choose HK first at that period .
