    The ambassador totally controlled the conversation. He was poised, rational, and articulate. Not to mention he spoke with a heavy British accent. On the other hand, this interviewer was nervous and only resorted to the list he was holding. The interviewer was clearly no match for the ambassador. The best part of this conversation was when the ambassador said "No, I don't think you are stupid".

    i have been living in the uk for 3 years. Yet, i never seen an article that is positive about China on any british media. Is this the truth? i am sure i have things you can learn from. A country will remain strong only when it is humble. BBC seems to view the CCP as the cause of the poverty of China. But the truth is that when the CCP took over China, China was extremely poor after 100 years exploitation by the west and japanese. In fact, the west was the cause of today's poor china. Find out what the british did to china. In recent 30 years, CCP has pull millions of chinese people out of poverty. What did the british do? Do they have the right to fucking judge us? One simple question. When do the british plan to return those chinese treasures being displayed in the British museum? LOL Let's talk about human right. Human right is not something about a vote. Human rights is that people need to eat, live properly, that people need to have a toilet, not a fucking vote for poor people living in poor countries. The so called largest democratic country india had similar economical level as china in 1990s, and now what you see? Try ask Indian people living in countryside whether they would like to have a vote or a better life like Chinese poor people have got in the past 30 years. Ideology is something that your filthy western governments created to make conflicts between nations, brainwash you people and create hates against countries that have different views from them. Wake up!

    • @homan2329

      +LI ZHAO You are absolutely right , human rights and democracy is all good and fine when you have enough to eat , a roof over your head and the the basics in which a human being can exist . No doubt they talk about human rights because they have all those things mainly from stealing from weak and poor countries . The CCP despite its many faults has achieved a miracle in the last 30yrs , a miracle the West fear above all things . 600 million people lifted out of poverty , the largest economy in the world according to their own IMF , hope and pride for most of its people , increase clout in world affairs ,modernized armed forces to deter aggression and increasingly well educated younger generation .
      All those things done in a generation !! Their character is such those that are weaker than them they abuse and exploit but faced with people they think are a threat to their assumed superiority they will seek to undermine and divide . I can see from this thread apart from a tiny few the Chinese here are facing their critics down just like the Chinese Ambassador .

    • @Manseb
      @Manseb 8 лет назад +4

      In really basic terms, the issues around human rights in China are about people being sentenced to death, or being subjected to persecutions, or torture for reasons that are considered less serious in the West. Whilst this is subjective, the idea that someone should be put to death for smuggling drugs, is one area which is considered extreme, in the West. It is not that drug use or drug dealing is endorsed by the Western community, or that it doesn't ruin lives, which it does, but that it is not as serious as crimes like murder or rape.
      Being compared to India is unfair, as India is a vastly different country to China which has not undergone a total Communist revolution, or strict oppressive policies like the one child policy, which, whilst beneficial, are still quite severe.

    Chinese ambassador should mention that the British "Home Children" is the largest children smuggling and trafficking case in human history, and the UK did it at the peak of British Empire. Over 100,000 British poor or orphaned children were smuggled and trafficked from the UK to Canada, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa to establish the long term British control in the newly acquired colonies. That must be a fine example of British "human rights" record.

How about your support of the " free Syrian Army " who turned out to be ISIS terrorists and the human rights of fleeing Syrian refugees whose once stable and relatively wealthy nation you help turn into a war zone ? Many people know how to use VPN (I have to say "MANY" coz young people know but most middle ages , old people don't know.). If the gov want completely block the RUclips, even the VPN doesn't work. Seems like Chinese gov just want protect their own video website. Look the google, youtube, facebook, twitter are in monopoly position in most of the countries while the serve is in other country. That is bad to a nation's data safe. So the gov simply block them to stop them rapidly developing, and make our own website like baidu, youku, renren, weibo (you can try to login, good way to understand China, like we all know youtube, facebook is good way to know the rest world). Another reason, the party don't want people easily see too many negative informations about themselves or the gov.

    Has anyone heard a word of praise on China and its contributions by the BBC host in the entire show? I don't. In fact, he had a list of questions to 'roast' the Chinese ambassador on matters ranging from the reciprocity of business investment, the backdoor to take control of the nuclear facility, cyber threat, human rights, trade retaliation, and work ethics, etc.
    On the other hand, the ambassador was well poised, spoke eloquently, elucidated his arguments assertedly, and he even praised the UK. The stark contrast says volume on how the two individuals presented themselves and their country. Check it out yourself!

    The interviewer is Evan Davis, he was host of TV show Dragons Den. He comes across lambasting, rude and annoying. At first I thought he was merely an ignorant presenter and of small intelligence. But then I looked him up on wikipedia, he studied politics and economics at Oxford and an MPA at Kennedy School Of Government at Harvard... of course just because he when to what many perceive as prestigious universities... does not mean he is wise or intelligent, often those things are inferred. - I suspect (but I might be wrong) that he understands everything Mr Chinese-UK ambassador is saying, and empathetic to the Chinese situation. (A private conversation might be entirely different) - However as part of his job (that enables him to earn living), the bosses at the BBC (who generally have a liberal bias), have forced him to push this angle. The piece of media also has to seem interesting for the average person (to get sizable viewership), many people are not interested in politics and would rather know what kim kardashian is doing... so the BBC subtly emulate the American talkshow style, by talking down the guest and speaking about the topic in a way, 'that a child might comprehend'... frankly over the past few days I haven't been able to find a high quality in-depth analysis in any media...

    I'm speaking as a British person with a deep (but not unconditional) respect for Chinese culture and people whilst having strong doubts about the Western media - the only certainty for both the West and the East is that we cannot be sure which cultural system is inherently more correct at this point in history - only the passage of time will tell. However I would point out to any Chinese viewers that critical questions from British journalists should be viewed in context: British journalists are trained to be tough and critical of our own British politicians so it would be jarring if they were uncritical of other countries too. I hope we can for now just agree to regard each other with equality in spite of our many differences and not drink the cheap liquor of nationalism.

    • @leejo5160
      @leejo5160 8 лет назад +2

      +Edward Till Mate, i have been living in the uk for 3 years. Wake up!

    • @nicheman3612
      @nicheman3612 8 лет назад

      Well you've made several good points about cultural perception which I would agree with as obviously a lot of Westerners who aren't very well-educated don't realise that in the East society isn't constructed around individualism in the same way as the west. But I don't agree with other points. Firstly I don't know why you would hold up India as an example of a good democracy when there are many arguments that indicate Modi is a quasi-fascist as seen here amongst other places www.internationalpolicydigest.org/2014/11/21/narendra-modi-fascist-or-leader-of-the-world-largest-democracy/. Also you seem to be using a lot of propaganda which probably makes you look more brainwashed than the people you are accusing of being brainwashed. You are accusing the west of hating other countries while calling the governments "filthy". And I'm sorry but "A country will remain strong only when it is humble" is a nonsensical paradox like me saying "I will only be tall when I am crouched". I suggest the best way of thinking about this for both of us is to see the shades of grey instead of thinking China=good, west=bad or vice versa as neither are true. As the ambassador said "No country is perfect". Does China does some things better than the west? Very likely. Is China an oppressive regime? Very difficult to tell in the present - I will probably not have all the facts for this until I am old and grey. But please don't presume you have all the answers as time will make a not-so-humble fool of you.
