I seriously think that Mark Tremonti is one of the best guitarists I have ever heard. He is around the same age as me, but as far as being an all round musician he is light years ahead of many. Plus he is a genuine nice guy aswell.
***** Oh please! I haven't been impressed with Slash. I've seen both live and there's no comparing the two. Tremonti for the dedication, raw talent and years of success.
PrismEdits Slash is one of the greatest in the story of rock, but in terms of technique, Mark is way better, you can’t compare both. Even though I personally think slash is better in creating songs that have the classical hard rock style
It's just nice to see how he does things up close. I knew how to play most of the song long before seeing this video. It's really not horribly complicated. This filled in some blanks and gave me some real insight as to how a pro gets it done. I'm grateful guys like him take the time to do these videos. Thanks!
despite him just playing it and not explaining much, I actually learned quite alot about the verse intro and chorus parts. Bridge to chorus is kinda hard to see and some chords in places, but for the most part it all worked out. Just need a higher res video to see the strings better
on a song like this one, it really is just a matter of practice. you can do it. the only tricky issue is how much you can get yourself to practice and repeat bits that seem boring just taken for itself. just do it.
for anyone who's interested, I have a VERY detailed tutorial of this song on my channel. Just uploaded the first video, which is the intro. Next few vids will cover verse, pre-chorus, chorus, and bridge. Check it out :)
would anyone care to speculate what setup hes using here? obviously the Bogner combo amp and the delay but he has to be using some sort of gain booster. trying to chase down this exact tone...to me its vintage mark tremonti
haha everyone must understand that a guy like this is not going to slow down the tutorials the way we'd all like...were lucky he even took the time to show us how he came up with the chords...be happy because he could of just said no
you have to know a good bit about guitar to learn from this lesson lol clearly I bit off more than I could chew when I clicked on this 😂 awesome to see him play though
Yeah I don't remember all the reverb and pinch harmonic squealing in the song, maybe I just have bad ears. I can play this but it kind of feels like he's trying to make it much more difficult to play than it was.
Yeah, he has a bit of Malmsteen Syndrome. Great guitarist, but in lessons it's like "OK HERE'S HOW IT'S DONE!" then blares through it with extra bits added in that aren't on the album version, so it's like, "wait... the fuck did he just do?"
MattOuellette88 Haha yeah. Improvising is great and all but in a tutorial, you want the guitarist to play song the way it's recorded so that you can play along and mimic it. Once I get the song down, I'll add improv if I choose too.
you gotta remember, those creed records were released over a decade ago. since then im sure hes played them live thousands of times over....im sure i would be bored too.
ProjectRecon1 Almost 2 decades ago, but still. They weren't together that much longer after this album came out and I doubt they played this song a thousand times even if it was on every set after 1999. Even still... yeah I can see him being bored playing one of their biggest hits.
ProjectRecon1 I was about to say the same thing! It seems weird to us that a composer can be bored playing it's on song, but it's maybe just that! And yes this is maybe the worse guitar tutorial ever, but I think it's not the rule that a great artist must also be a great teacher! But still I think by slowing down this video one can study and get some insights about his playing! Anyway awesome song!
It's funny, because of these "simple" and "easy" songs is what won them numerous awards and helped them sell 40 MILLION plus with Creed. Last time I checked, Alter Bridge wasn't climbing up the charts. Slow your role Mark, and remember what got you your fame in the first place.... #STAYHUMBLE
TheUSNMA2 They were still a million times better with Myles than with Stapp. Brain, Mark , and Flip really found their sound with Myles. And they’ve sold out countless arenas and have sold a couple million so I’d say they are a okay. Best rock band out there today in my opinion.
I find it slightly humorous that, because nobody has enough love for any of their songs to actually put up an instructional video on RUclips... that Creed themselves have to recruit their own front-man to enter the RUclips sess-pool and promote "wanted learning" of their songs. lol. No disrespect to Creed though, I like some of their shit, it's good. Just think it's funny that they have to actually "hope that people will WANT to learn their songs, if they themselves make a couple vids...cause there's no fans to do that par automatically lol.
+xmjm924x Well you haven't studied Tremonti enough then xD, He loves making Instructional DVD's (Check FRET12's website) But he devoted so much time to AB and his solo band that this kind of stuff gets delayed a lot.
I seriously think that Mark Tremonti is one of the best guitarists I have ever heard. He is around the same age as me, but as far as being an all round musician he is light years ahead of many.
Plus he is a genuine nice guy aswell.
For some reason Tremonti is one of my all time favourite guitarists!
Because he's badass
I love tremonti because he can create so melodious fingerpicking parts as well as heavy riffs at the same time...
Cant wait to see and hear this live again so simple but always humble. Such a gift to have Mark in this world
What an Inspiraton, One of the best guitar players in the world today!!
Great my best harmonic tune of old times
Amazing,Mark makes it look so effortless
the verse is surprisingly satisfying!!!
love that opening riff. Iconic.
Hello mark!! Its 2019!! And still higher woohooo
Mark and Ty Tabor are def two of my favorite guitarists just on there tone alone.
Love it huge help I dig your tunes GOd bless keep rocking it
Loved the song and the guitar
Tremonti skills far extend beyond what Creed could allow him
Doesn't get much better then Tremonti.
Slash
***** Oh please! I haven't been impressed with Slash. I've seen both live and there's no comparing the two. Tremonti for the dedication, raw talent and years of success.
frusciante
Ewwwww slash!!!! Mark tremonti!!!!!!!!!!
PrismEdits Slash is one of the greatest in the story of rock, but in terms of technique, Mark is way better, you can’t compare both.
Even though I personally think slash is better in creating songs that have the classical hard rock style
I'm so amazed by people who can do this
Excellent tutorial, I now know the song note for note.
It's just nice to see how he does things up close. I knew how to play most of the song long before seeing this video. It's really not horribly complicated. This filled in some blanks and gave me some real insight as to how a pro gets it done. I'm grateful guys like him take the time to do these videos. Thanks!
Does anyone know what magazine issue this is in for guitar world?
despite him just playing it and not explaining much, I actually learned quite alot about the verse intro and chorus parts. Bridge to chorus is kinda hard to see and some chords in places, but for the most part it all worked out. Just need a higher res video to see the strings better
it was great i will download it and goin to learn
Awesome guitar playing. As far as teaching though....
Well yeah, Mark, now it makes sense to me 😳
on a song like this one, it really is just a matter of practice. you can do it. the only tricky issue is how much you can get yourself to practice and repeat bits that seem boring just taken for itself. just do it.
He said "simpler songs" lol!!!
yeah it is
very very simple
Learned it in 5 minutes.
Yeah, well, he's a fuckin liar 😝
The verse is a pain in the ass. 17 years and I still can't get it
very good
@kunal222 Yeah, type in Ultimate Guitar in Google. No video, but they have star rated tablature to choose from. Good Luck!
2:13 he shifted to distortion by moving that knob..would anybody tell me its mechanism? PLZ
Yeah! I got it all done! thanks a lot,
you're awesome!
for anyone who's interested, I have a VERY detailed tutorial of this song on my channel. Just uploaded the first video, which is the intro. Next few vids will cover verse, pre-chorus, chorus, and bridge. Check it out :)
Thank you so much for the lesson. I did not get it good teacher.
Awesome
would anyone care to speculate what setup hes using here? obviously the Bogner combo amp and the delay but he has to be using some sort of gain booster. trying to chase down this exact tone...to me its vintage mark tremonti
is it the bogner Goldfinger amp?
Whoa, that was pretty freakn awesome!
Super awesome!
Wow..i like it
What is it called when he switches to distortion with that knob on his guitar
Roll back the volume to get a cleaner sound on the same/lead channel. Solid states are not ideal for this kind of thing.
@turboteabag08 Do u knw of an easier tutorial pls?
what effects pedals does he use?
now since hes with alter bridge he seems like what the fuck am playing old shit for anyways but its still a really kick ass song
but he is one of best players in the world
yea PRS guitars... the best.
it gets hairy, yes it does Mr tremonti , when you gonna tour gain, we're all waiting!!!
who says you can't? Check out the link in the description called Jamorama
When the chorus got too hairy, thats when I knew he took me higher
haha everyone must understand that a guy like this is not going to slow down the tutorials the way we'd all like...were lucky he even took the time to show us how he came up with the chords...be happy because he could of just said no
He really drives the front of that amp. Is his pickup 2x over wound? I think that’s the hottest clean I’ve heard.
What guitar is that
prs tremonti signature model
The tone he has in this video is perfect I am going to try and learn this.
dude ur badass
idolll !!!!!!!!!111
Is this song of Creed or Alter Bridge ?
Creed.
you have to know a good bit about guitar to learn from this lesson lol clearly I bit off more than I could chew when I clicked on this 😂 awesome to see him play though
@kunal222 lol, no doubt.
@Zedpro1 A shit load of reverb and a lil delay
Titan A.E.
The fucking Tremonster 😈
That 240p resolution though!
Muito foda
Yeah I don't remember all the reverb and pinch harmonic squealing in the song, maybe I just have bad ears. I can play this but it kind of feels like he's trying to make it much more difficult to play than it was.
Drop D with stretched out open chords....is his secret sauce
Is he using sweep picking .I honestly suck at telling 😂.
You guys realize this video is supposed to accompany the tabs that came with the magazine, right?
"And then it gets hairy"
to Zedpro1: he uses boss od-1
:-)
kinda annoys me that he couldn't tune up half a step because that would help a lot.
futuremusician728 no it wouldnt
the only good creed song lol love marks work and brians and scott phillips
Terrible tutorial. lol I love this guy tho. He definitely doesn't seem to like Creed's songs tho. Looks bored out of his mind.
Yeah, he has a bit of Malmsteen Syndrome. Great guitarist, but in lessons it's like "OK HERE'S HOW IT'S DONE!" then blares through it with extra bits added in that aren't on the album version, so it's like, "wait... the fuck did he just do?"

Years of practice. Plus, hes prolly can play that song in his sleep.
It's funny, because of these "simple" and "easy" songs is what won them numerous awards and helped them sell 40 MILLION plus with Creed. Last time I checked, Alter Bridge wasn't climbing up the charts. Slow your role Mark, and remember what got you your fame in the first place.... #STAYHUMBLE
So Mark isn't humble because Higher is one of his easier songs to play? Makes zero sense. The guy appears to be the most humble guy in music nowadays.
TheUSNMA2 They were still a million times better with Myles than with Stapp. Brain, Mark , and Flip really found their sound with Myles. And they’ve sold out countless arenas and have sold a couple million so I’d say they are a okay. Best rock band out there today in my opinion.
FML
And it gets hairy
so fast!!!!!
What?

Angus Young and many others have done the same for Guitar World. Is that humorous too? You have a weird and very immature sense of humor.
He should stick to playing music of the Gods. Teaching isn't his greatest strength
i like this guys playing but i don't seem to like any of his solo work. anyway, go mark!
His distorted tone is horrible. Nothing like the original from Higher.
Not perfect chord
so lost
lol it's the worst guitar lesson ever. it can't even be called a lesson. it's just a stupid show off
This guy is not as good as the real Mark Tremonti of Creed
