Tremonti's a great guitar player. Seems like a real laid back quiet type of guy. Success never got to his head and he just loves to play. Those kinds of people are the great musicians.
Very easy to play.. I been trying to play this the last 11 years… I then went back in time to 1998 and have continued to play. The year is now 2021 and I almost got it Mark Tremonti !!!
Mark Tremonit is such a real person. He deserves every praise he gets. Heard him on radio shows and he is legit just a regular guy who can play guitar, and got into a big band, and plays good songs that we all like. Mark: Thank you! You've made such an impact in my life, and many others over the DECADES!
For anyone wondering the bar chords hes playing they are Db Ab Db 555 Gb 7 Bb 8 the second is pretty much the same but instead of playing 8 on the b u play 9
I don't care who is the "best". I just love Mark's playing, it is raw and harmonic at the same time. And if you listen closely you can hear a bit of Southern rock in there as well.
man the pre chorus he does is crazy, how the hell do u down pick so fast and then add a triplet to it, lol i miss the younger tremonti tho! but the 2009 tremonti is an absolute gun!
I remember the first time I heard it on the radio, instantly hooked, not yet 30 years old at the time. I honestly wondered if it would be a one hit wonder band back then due to its popularity.
I love how easy this guy makes his guitar scream, and I don't know if it's just me but.. Does anyone else notice he likes a pickup cover over the neck pickup but not the bridge?
To the people wondering, he's just jamming on his amp teaching the lesson without a footswitch, he's just turning his volume down to 2ish to teach you the cleans and up all the way to teach you the rythems.. Nothing special but live he switches between amps.. hope this helped at all.
This is from a special edition tribute to Dimebag Darrell. This lesson comes on the cd if you get the cd version. You can find it on ebay if you want to pick it up; that's what I did.
@underthelighthouse The reason he said that is because DTML came after Higher...so it is the same concept as saying that an Older Sibling resembles his Younger sibling...most people say it the other way around because the Older one came firstn and any later versions are compared to the original
quick addition to the comment I just posted. Not just a cd version of guitar world, the guitar world magazine that comes with the cd, not the standalone magazine.
don't anyone take this the wrong way but i think he's gotten good to the point where he doesn't need to think about what and how he plays (he's just that good) that it's super difficult for him to teach people how to play because it's second nature to him, one of my good friend's are like that too, he can play extremly well he just can't explain how to play like that, Mark is still one of my hero's tho
@AuGmEnTed96 ...just remember, it's not a distortion pedal, it's an overdrive pedal. When used by itself with the gain jacked, you'll get a good rock tone out of it. But when used in conjunction with the amp distortion is where it'll put a smile on your face. If you need help setting up your rig for good tone just email me and I'll try to steer you in the right direction.
Yeah don’t no how ppl can learn from that he’s just to good and been doing all he’s life I personally love his voice wish he would sing a few songs.... the only time I heard his voice is in created my own prison and love his voice sad he’s not letting ppl enjoying his Great give from God are whom ever y’all say it’s from....
@AuGmEnTed96 I played it and liked it a lot. The character it adds to your tone is just phenomenal. It has a good amount of gain and it will really push your Orange and give it that nice saturated gain that you are looking for. The way I would set it up is in front of the amp and try to find a good mix with it and the amp's distortion. You might need to get a noise gate to control it, but it's worth it. Versatile, yes. Blues, classic rock, whatever you're looking for.
@365daysgone Who said he was lying, go through my channel and watch him play it in the old videos. In the issue of Guitar World from this year in a 3-page interview with him he admits that he plays some of the songs, including "Higher" differently now.
@AuGmEnTed96 Well there's the Keeley stuff which is all really good. Maybe a Keeley Modified TS9 or Keeley Tubescreamer. I know for a fact that Mark uses the T-Rex Michael Angelo Batio Overdrive, which sounds awesome. Thats probably what I would go with, the T-Rex. It is a killer OD and is only like $150.00. The OCD is also a really nice OD. Right now I'm using a BOSS SD-1, which I think sounds pretty good and it was only like $45.00, but I'll get a T-Rex before too long.
I really don't understand how you can possibly bar the four strings at the 7th fret, while at the same time, pulling off of the 11th & 9th frets on the G string. I've tried it multiple times, and all it ever does is mute the G string after I pull off the 11th & 9th...
@tighttritenight yea but how where they taught and whats there mind set when their playing, i'm not saying he's a great instructor, but i think the way you are taught plays a big role in how or if your able to teach your self, it can be difficult to prioritize what info needs to come first to explain something well, all three are amazing guitar players regardless of how well they teach what they know
Tremonti's a great guitar player. Seems like a real laid back quiet type of guy. Success never got to his head and he just loves to play. Those kinds of people are the great musicians.
Very true
Dave Ellis well said
Mega humble genius indeed. He watches us noobs play his riffs all the time (even came across me once... my mediocre ass..)
I agree
Are these years later. This song still slaps
Saying slaps is not a thing! Total cringeworthy
one of the greatest of all the modern metal guitarists
Absolutely
In like early ‘00s Alternative Rock Jerry Cantrell & Mark Tremonti are almost the best.
Metal?
Metal?
After watching several similar videos I have anew respect for him!
Tremonti is such a high caliber guy.
Love him.
Very easy to play.. I been trying to play this the last 11 years… I then went back in time to 1998 and have continued to play. The year is now 2021 and I almost got it Mark Tremonti !!!
HE dont make it easy brother
That pinky stretch!!!!! Easy my ass.
Mark Tremonit is such a real person. He deserves every praise he gets. Heard him on radio shows and he is legit just a regular guy who can play guitar, and got into a big band, and plays good songs that we all like.
Mark: Thank you! You've made such an impact in my life, and many others over the DECADES!
the harmonics he does are insane
He has got some of the best PRSs that I've ever seen!!! Go Creed
Mark is the best modern rock guitarist out there. even best position in metal guitars.
I know Mark, from my cousin in Virgos Merlot and he is a wonderful man, musician, teacher. He always was nice to me and put on a heck of a show!
For anyone wondering the bar chords hes playing they are Db Ab Db 555 Gb 7 Bb 8 the second is pretty much the same but instead of playing 8 on the b u play 9
Dude is an absolute monster on the 6 string. And that tone when he lets a chord ring...🤑
I seen this guy play live blew my mind crazy player
Very cool. I'd love to see a lot more of these "lessons".
This is literally a very simple song. Both in guitar skills and songwriting. But sometimes that's all it takes..
Agreed...sometimes the best songs are simple songs.
This guy's pretty good
He should join a band
Yes he just needs to learn to play Creed's songs a bit better
He’s alright but I play Higher better. 😂
@@katierandomlydoubt
@@arlolusk558😂 you’re right because I can’t play it. Hahaha
Holy fuck. I remember seeing videos of mark play and the guy is an absolute monster on the guitar.
he prlly the most underrated guitarist ever
What I think Tremonti doesn't understand is that the simple chords are some of the greatest!
this guy is a monster. love him in Alter Bridge.
And also creed
And Creed and Tremonti* Do not forget Creed and also Tremonti, his solo band.
Hm, just hear the intro, it's very impressive how musical and melodic this song is. Thumbs up!!!! Mark is just one of the best songwritters!
Everytime it gets to the "hairy" part, he moves from his seat, so funny lol
I don't even like creed but this dude is so fucking underrated honestly
have u checked out Alter Bridge or His solo project Tremonti? They are both really good
You need to develop some taste. Creed is great radio rock
This isn't a lesson. This is how I play and follow if you can.
lol
+Stephen Davenport yeah that's kind of a lesson too ;) but I get what you mean :D
True deal lol, but I actually did learn how to play the song just from watching his fingers and chord shapes
Best comment ever
Hahaha
the verse sounds awesome, the guy is unreal.
this riff has changed over the 10 years
I don't care who is the "best". I just love Mark's playing, it is raw and harmonic at the same time. And if you listen closely you can hear a bit of Southern rock in there as well.
I love it too! Its hauntingly beautiful in My Own Prison
man the pre chorus he does is crazy, how the hell do u down pick so fast and then add a triplet to it, lol i miss the younger tremonti tho! but the 2009 tremonti is an absolute gun!
If I were to start a band Mark would be my first pick.
One of the sweetest guitar tunes ever. Cool and thanks for the explanation, can't stop playing it!
Herb
my favorite part in the song will always be the BIG CHUNK part !!! still listen to that song today though , it never gets old
I remember the first time I heard it on the radio, instantly hooked, not yet 30 years old at the time.
I honestly wondered if it would be a one hit wonder band back then due to its popularity.
Dude wrote great guitar parts. Mark and Scott were on a serious song writing roll.
Writes* - my man is still going strong!
I like tremonti..best guitar player
The best & brightest gitaris i have ever heard!
All of his tunes are chunky yet melodic
Those pinched harmonics 🔥🔥🔥
Where in the video?
one of the best open string riffing
Tremonti es la viva prueba de que no necesitas ser un virtuoso tecnicamente para ser uno de los mejores.
this is him showing off because he has gotten so much better than he was 10 years ago.
Man,Mark is kind of.....you know what?IS the best guitar player ever!
i love mark he's so cool
Please don’t delete this video
Mark makes it look so easy, but, as a beginner guitarist, I'm already intimidated by this
I find it so helpful. This is not to the beginners though because he played at the actual tempo
I love how easy this guy makes his guitar scream, and I don't know if it's just me but.. Does anyone else notice he likes a pickup cover over the neck pickup but not the bridge?
TheCanadianToker1 Those are his signature pickups and they are hot as hell! Can't go wrong with them
"Easier stuff"????? Hmmm, this dude is GOD!!!!!
God? Mark Tremonti?
2 Firsts going on here. First time youve heard guitar, and first ive ever heard that.
I LOVE drop D 5th power chords!!!! So does Stephen from Deftones!
Love this song.
To the people wondering, he's just jamming on his amp teaching the lesson without a footswitch, he's just turning his volume down to 2ish to teach you the cleans and up all the way to teach you the rythems.. Nothing special but live he switches between amps.. hope this helped at all.
tpawlowskis thank you for clarifying this! I was actually thinking about this!
He has confidence of the highest order.
Best heavy melodies ever
mark your awsome bro! thanks for the vid!
I saw him =) on 26th June on Sonisphere Festival with Alter Bridge.. He is very very good =)
So very very easy to practice
Good job mark
Very easy to play? For Mark Tremonti. Because he is a Master.
That Bogner is a beast.
Wowww love this guy ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Yeah. Rock on Mark! Thanks
Late to the party but those pinch harmonics!!!!! Damnnnnnn
great player and guy
This is from a special edition tribute to Dimebag Darrell. This lesson comes on the cd if you get the cd version. You can find it on ebay if you want to pick it up; that's what I did.

I love music.
Oh gawd that harmonic at 2:16
quick addition to the comment I just posted. Not just a cd version of guitar world, the guitar world magazine that comes with the cd, not the standalone magazine.

@TNA796 Good point. Mark Tremonti got me into playing guitar also. Good luck!
"lesson: you just put your hands here and here and just play it 20% too fast"
Talented.
1:05 Higher main riff
I love u tremonti❤
His awesome
so good
oh man such a badass
Those open chords give a lot of dimension, like teemonti's style.
Tremonter esta entre so 10 melhoris do mundo muito.showwww estou no brazillll
ahhh the tone of the gods.
I love creed band,is the best band of rock of old the time
@AuGmEnTed96 ...just remember, it's not a distortion pedal, it's an overdrive pedal. When used by itself with the gain jacked, you'll get a good rock tone out of it. @ IJIIKY9192 it clearly says in the beginning of the vid that for this lesson marks guitar is in drop Db but the original recording is in drop d
those pinches are beast
Is that straight through the Bogner? What a great overdrive!
Those pinky chord workouts remind me of Warren Demartini and Dean Deleon guitar work.

I did not expect
Chills...
That harmonics just opened a portal somewhere 😮😮😮
@guitarinevilhands
the sound of first album of alter bridge, one day remains, is very similar to creed one... listen blackbird or ABIII
@365daysgone Who said he was lying, go through my channel and watch him play it in the old videos. In the issue of Guitar World from this year in a 3-page interview with him he admits that he plays some of the songs, including "Higher" differently now.
Genius
Good guitarist and a good riff.
That is, it's what he does at 1:11 , it's really hard to do that, i don't understand how you can possibly get it to sound out...
I really don't understand how you can possibly bar the four strings at the 7th fret, while at the same time, pulling off of the 11th & 9th frets on the G string. I've tried it multiple times, and all it ever does is mute the G string after I pull off the 11th & 9th...
I dare say creed was awesome because of you!
Mbey Vincent it’s dare not dear.
Don't really dig creed, but as a player he has my upmost respect.
2021 🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻
@tighttritenight yea but how where they taught and whats there mind set when their playing, i'm not saying he's a great instructor, but i think the way you are taught plays a big role in how or if your able to teach your self, it can be difficult to prioritize what info needs to come first to explain something well, all three are amazing guitar players regardless of how well they teach what they know
