I do appreciate this video. I'm currently restoring a 1971 C10 and had watched videos previously on how to replace inner and outer tie-rods, but was very confused to find what I ordered and what was on the truck was nothing like the videos. I'm sure you can imagine the joy in saying "These look like what I have!"
Mark, I am sitting here rather pissed that I have to fix my truck/spend money and have watched a bunch of videos on how to DIY. As soon as you showed the "pickle fork" in this video I lmao! You made my day!!. Really, you did!!!! Not to mention your video was very helpful & easy to follow!!! Thank you Sir!!
Mark, awesome video! Thank you! You make life easier for us DIY-ers! Question for you, do you need to use the jack and stands? Could you have done it with out? I too have a GM (third gen Camaro), I did my stabilizer links on ground, no jacks. I just wanted to know, so that way I can continue working on ground and replace my tie rods next.
If I replace inner and outer rods (together, it is a set), and I remove the old ones, after that if I matched the total length of the set (put together) to the old rods set, will it be sufficient alignment to go to the professionals to do alignment there? Thank you for the film.
Is it required to use locktite on the sleeves? I've been hearing yes from some and others say it's really not necessary. I just did both driver and passenger inners, outers and sleeves. Went ahead and purchased MOOG. Installed on a 2000 Chevy 2500k. Not sure if all that info was needed, but there ya go lol. I did not use any locktite.
My steering wheel is slightly crooked to the right, and drifts left when steering wheel is straight. Can tie rods or bushings cause that to happen? I’ve done 3 alignments in 2 months and it didn’t fix it. My car has 90,000 miles
So what happens if I don't have a torque wrench and I just tighten them as much as I can? Is that bad? Another question (I don't have an air compressor), what does the impact hammer do to the pickle fork? Can I use a pickle fork by hand to loosen the tie rod ends?
my 99 gmc jimmy makes a loud medal busting sound when turning or braking at really slow speeds like mostly turning into a space or backing out and braking, what could it be and how can i check it? all i heard to do is push and pull on the tire so i did the top of the tire on both sides and the tires goes in and out a little bit that all i know REPLY
Before installing the new one you can measure the length of the old one and adjust the new one, measure center to center of the studs. It will get you to the guy for alignment
@@nogripes hey Mark I just changed my tie rod ends on the left side of the truck , 96 -3/4 ton Chevy measured 16 1/2"center of top stem to c of bottom zerk fitting, Drove around and block, feels good
Nice work. Where did you find the torque specs I'm trying to find them for a 86 Chevy Caprice I need the sleeve, inner & outer tie rod, & both ball joint specs if you can help thanks
The rubber boot on my 2006 Impala tie rod is cut half way "across" on the bottom side.06 Impala 3.9 LT automatic. When I go to replace it, how do I add the grease and how much and what kind of grease should I use? Can I use "heavy duty lithium grease(black)? Awesome video. Thank you so much
So just doing the inner tie rod end , bought a new sleeve as well felt like such a dumb shit when you said one side has reverse thread kept thinking why the hell won't it go in .....duh..... thanks man , doesn't say anything about reverse threads in haynes manual .
Hi Mark, will the torque specks will be same for a 2000 CHEVROLET EXPRESS G3500? I work for a non profit and we have a medium size school bus based on a 2000 CHEVROLET EXPRESS G3500 We need to replace the tie rods plus the upper control arms before they can perform an alignment. I wanted to do that myself so we can save $1000.00. Thank you.
+Mark Jenkins Right on sweet deal on the Lincoln. Oh well at least you are getting the Family ready for work and stuff, they need a vehicle. The blazers are a pain (at least mine is) but i love the way they drive and the 4x4 has alot of tourque and is fun to drive in the winter..lol
When buying a used car, I always think of the end cost... buy a car for $500, expect to put in another $1-2K. If that $500 car isn't worth putting another $1k into it, then it's not worth buying.
bro!!! you are fuckin hilarious with that pickle fork joke though lmfao!!!!!!! love the video too. i just readjusted my reman gearbox. gonna get these tie rods replaced
Don't use cheap Chinese/ Mexican made or you'll be doing this job again in a year or two. Use factory or Moog. Especially if you're going to do a ball joint job. The cheaper ones just don't last.
@@nogripes I don't really drive my S10 all that much,so I used the cheap Ebay Mexican stuff I think it cost about 130$ for everything I've only put about 15k on it since replacing everything including the ball joints. Something is already bad....clunky noises already. I wouldn't recommend any of that cheap stuff, unless they just can't afford the good stuff and they need the vehicle fixed badly. Otherwise junkyard stuff will probably last longer.

Got a 1995 dodge ram 1500 2wd. Can i use this video to change my tierods???
I am trying a similar method for the drag link on my 1964 Ford f250 2wd because it is impossible to find these drag links.
So you need to pickle fork them out but don’t need to press them back in? Just torque to spec?
What’s the website for torque specs been looking for one forever lol can’t seem to find my vehicle specs anywhere
Bro you are the man thank you 🙏 !!!

You are going to have to get a front end alignment anyhow. So tell them to also torque it. You can use a hammer on the fork.
Thank you, You were helpful.
Great video, thank for the help. 👍👍🇨🇦
I'm a little tired and I wanted to brush up on the tierod removal stuff and your pickle fork (snack) made me loose my shit. 🤣😂

Thanks Mark it did help
Is the tie rod assembly supposed to rotate up and down?
People performing this job need to know how the static drivable measurement between the 2 installed tie rods is calculated.
Before installing the new one you can measure the length of the old one and adjust the new one, measure center to center of the studs. It will get you to the guy for alignment

Factory tie rods don't use cotter pins on gm trucks.
I'd say you are only guilty of abusing tools if they belong to somebody else..if you bought them, oh well! lol Great video, thanks for posting :)
