NewRetroWave yeeeeeeeaaaaaa :)
They've already taken over! I went to the ad show with fm84 ams the midnight. More energy than most Concerts. Sold the Fuck out
NewRetroWave, heard the ambient sample of the in the air tonight drums then two epic fills from that gorgeous Phil Collins song. Love this modern retro wave!
Is this from an album?
Hi. Crystalline is the first single taken from the upcoming 'Nacturnal' EP that will be released on October 13!. :)
That "In The Air Tonight" drum solo followed by that epic sax break just hits hard AF.
This is the absolute zenith of late night cruising music.
Also the apex.

I've been late night driving this track for months and it's still hauntingly perfect.
I remember driving alone at night when I first heard this song. It was nearly 11pm, I was driving alone down a mountain pass in the middle of nowhere. I had put the midnight on shuffle to stay awake. I hadn't even seen another car in nearly 30 minutes. I had just cleared the summit when the saxophone riff hit, shivers literally went down my spine. It was one of the most incredible musical moments I've ever experienced. Driving at night to this stuff really does do something to your mind.
You're so lucky lol. I hope I can experience that too someday!
It almost makes you feel like your in an 80s movie, on the run, and your driving at night
I've experienced something really similar. I was driving back home on a light rainy night, it was like 3-4 am. I remember forming those reflective lights paths on a brand new road, hearing this song very loud for the first time to keep me awake. Reading your experience made me smile, someone understand the feeling i had that night.
Bro reading your comment sent a shiver down my spine
THAT GUITAR RIFF!!! THE PHIL COLLINS' IN THE AIR TONIGHT DRUM LIKE SOLO!!! THE LYRICS!! THIS SONG IS MY NEW FAVORITE SONG!!
This has to be the best the midnight song. It's just perfection
@@quantumsodapopthey have many, but this stands out for sure
greatest synthwave track ever made IMHO
I pity the people who are missing out on this genre
Yes I am surprised that here in the UK the major radio stations don't yet run a New Retro Wave Show in their schedules. It would help to sell the music too.
there's no such thing as mainstream or underground, there's only good or bad music. the ear doesn't discriminate so don't restrict your taste to what you 'allow' yourself to like and what not. nice song btw
alias music Mainstream music must appeal to a lot of people, therefore it can't go too much in a certain direction. there is less experimentation and less decisions from the musician himself. For a lot of people to like it, it needs to be "dumbed down", and follow a certain trend that is hot at that moment. So there is a BIG difference between mainstream and "underground" music, the latter being free from such things, and being more unique because of it
Keep the numpties away.
SkiFi Sk Music I am with you player...been listening for years and enjoy knowing the other mainstreamer losers are not on my Lv.!!
A synth and a sax...ALWAYS perfect together!
EXACTLY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Maybe if he knew how to more smoothly integrate them and didn’t recycle sax segments, they’d have more impact. Not that you expect too much from him.
Yes it is brother 🔥
My all time favorite Midnight song.
I just keep coming back here. This tune is absolutely rocking. And that Saxophone...man, pump it into my 80's veins!
A fellow The Midnight and Metroid enjoyer salutes you back Clocked, love your vids 👍 keep up the great work!
I went into a local record store last week and they were blasting The Midnight. Couldn't believe it.
That record store knows good music
I am surprised you didn’t call them racist for not showing black peoples in this video
Sally Vee you mad ?
Sally Vee oh look at you with big words, such a super star
Sally Vee ya they do, what other words are in you’re Mongoloid vocabulary ?
For someone that’s not mad you sure are making a lot of replies
2:21 jeSUS CHRIST MAN. I WAS NOT READY. MY BODY IS IN SPACE.
🤣🤣🤣
The best part about discovering songs like these is the slow build up. Nothing would have made me ready for that sax man. The music just hits you!
I’m high and crying it’s too real rn
Same here
Underrated
That drum roll at 2:24 is very Phil Collins!!!!!! I'm convinced The Midnight is incapable of making bad music!!!!!!!
Then the sax comes in after it, breathtaking.
Hay that's part of the plan, just when you start thinking of the bald Collins, the fierce sax comes roaring from behind. Now that's a blitzkrieg right there my friend
Aproved
It's not a drum roll Lul
thank you sir, for giving me dat chills again :D
That sax! That guitar! My goodness its so amazing to see these bands and individuals evolve with their music!
singe241 OH MY GOD YES
See this is what a lot of synthwave is missing -- actual songwriting skills. Getting the vibe right is one thing... keeping you addicted like a junkie for 6 minutes is a whole 'nother matter!

I've been listening to this song everyday on repeat for a month straight. How in the actual hell does some thing this perfect exist in the music world? Crazy incredible.
You too huh! I was just introduced to this band and can't get enough of them
@@c.george7451 congrats on your life improvement 😃
for years now i've listening to this masterpiece ..and i'm still so excited on how good this tune is!
I'm not sophisticated to appreciate all the nuance and technical skill of synthwave, but I can determine that The Midnight is the most accessible of all the bands I've heard. As well as the strongest sense of melody and song structure. Their genius is that they make their craft seem effortless when it's anything but. The only thing about them that is simple or effortless is how easy it is to love them
And see, this is why I get a little mad when people hate on the simple things. Sometimes, Simplicity is all you need to give that major oomph. Synth Beats, Drums, and a Sax (with the occasional guitar here and there), and boom, you create magic
It’s actually a fairly sophisticated song, but like all good synth music, the complexity is in the layering and coloring and not the individual components.
You say “accessible” like we WANT normies to come in and ruin the genre.
@@bigsyrup8567 Oh man, that's true. I guess I wasn't the only one that hated things becoming popular because of the normies. Whenever something becomes saturated, in my opinion, it loses all of its magic. People are prone to misunderstanding more. This is why I'm more than happy that I enjoy this while the other people can go and try to find "good" music within what is mainstream. To that, I say good luck with that, 'cause you'll need it.
GTA 6 needs NRW FM.
Yes!!!!!
Better yet, Cyberpunk 2077 needs different radio stations featuring different synthwave sub-genres!
@@SSPspaz man....I hope that game is as good as it looks. But yeah, that would make the game absolutely legendary to include a soundtrack from the midnight.
@@Mike-ks6qu, if it's even half as good as it looks, I'll be extremely happy. And if they can make the soundtrack a massive mix-tape from a bunch of the top synthwave artists, it'll be legendary! If there's anyone who can pull it off, it's CDPR. I've heard separate rumors from both Mitch Murder and from Perturbator that they are working on video game soundtracks, so who knows!
As there is Self Radio in GTA 5 - I've filled it with NRW :3

I don't know if these guys are old enough to remember the 80's, but they've nailed the sound! Keep up the great work.
The sax work in this and Vampires are why The Midnight are head and shoulders above the rest. 💯
They truly are the apex. I hope the new album has a new sax masterpiece but I'm a bit worried it won't if they're going with a more hard rock motif. Monsters didn't have one where the sax was centerpiece although I do love the part where it comes in at the end of Dance with Somebody. I do like a lot of theirs that don't have sax, but it is without a doubt indispensable. Brooklyn is one of my favorite for the lyrics. One of the saddest songs I can name.
You mean the rather middling reused samples? Dang, doesn’t take much to impress these days. Must be all the new kids discovering Retrowave/Synthwave tunes fresh off the boat.
Once again The Midnight knocks out the park. Music like this is the reason I fell in love with this genre of music. This song just makes me happy
I love it too
Ian Cooper type of genre?
I kind of get an opposite, melancholy vibe. Maybe its just me, though.

🐉 I think that people generally seem to think that we compete with each other more than we do, and I like to come back to this song. This is the first song I heard by The Midnight. We're free to leave the country the whole time and just throw everything people think out the window. Human rights. Hey, this song is full of those! "Eyes meet, we know where this goes~” ♪ 👏🏻👏🏻 ✏️

The Midnight are literally putting every other synth wave artist to shame right now. Synthwave needs vocals, sax, guitar, keyboard and melodies come on guys where you at?

I agree!!!
Hard to determine what is "best" when so many artists in this genre are amazing in their own right.
Mmmm... nope. The Midnight are truly the best. :p
I agree it's subjective, but IMHO, while others merely catch the sound, they catch the sound AND emotion. FM-84 is also up there.
They are the Best for me, all the others artist are good and i love all, but The Midnigth mix the feel and sound of Synthwave with the sound quality of modern era!
Another perfect song. What makes the Midnight so amazing is this could easily be inserted into any sexy 80s scene or montage without anyone noticing it was from 2017. Absolutely killer.

That was a very In the air tonight by Phil Collins drum roll. Epic.
Beginning sounds like "In the air tonight", percussion wise.
It certainly is sampled from that
Agreed, first thing I noticed as well.
sounds like every episode of Miami Vice
And the background arpeggiator sequence sounds like "Love on a real train" by Tangerine Dream.
Hiyoooo when it's time to steal, steal from the best :D
That fast Synthy riff that's playing in the background the entire time sounds exactly like the one from "Pink Mist" by Gunship
One of the best band I discovered in these last months!!
Midnight meditation behind mini-blinds. Tension builds. The sax marks the decisive moment. You shed a silent tear. An ice cube makes a ringing sound against the crystal glass. You quickly swallow the rest of your Bacardi and coke. This opens the night. Time to move on.
My face entered permasmile at the guitar solo. Thanks a lot Tim.
Maximum saxiness
The depth of this song is astonishing and to capture the emotions of such sharing is beyond words. I love this song!
