Lyrics:
I used to be the one
I used to be your getaway dreamer
I couldn’t get enough
Thinking that we would last forever
Don’t know what you’re thinking of
Slipping further out of reach
To the edge of town we could go
Away from all the world to see
You were wild trying to set yourself free
I didn’t see the signs right in front of me
Oh, I’m running in the night so soon
I’ve got nothing left to lose
I’m leaving it all behind, running in the night with you
I won’t let you get away again
We can see it through to the end
But whatever we do
I'm running in the night with you
I used to be the one
I used to be your place to land
Under the shadows
Into the palm of my hand
You’re always changing the situation
Just when we found paradise
You’re always shutting down my conversation
I can never read your mind
Oh, I’m running in the night so soon
I’ve got nothing left to lose
I’m leaving it all behind, running in the night with you
I won’t let you get away again
We can see it through to the end
But whatever we do
I'm running in the night with you
Ahh, ahh, ahh, ahh
Running with the night
Ahh, ahh, ahh, ahh
I’m Running with the night
I used to be the one
I used to be your getaway dreamer
I couldn’t get enough
Thinking that we would last forever
Chorus repeat x 2

Who else is happy that the 80’s aesthetic is making a comeback in pop culture right now?
better times, better attitudes and a hopeful tomorrow...
@@rolandsdurendal6673 We made it through the threat of nuclear war in the 80's, now maybe we'll make it through climate change.

53 years old. Lived in the 80's. What a decade. Honor to have grown up in that era. Magical time.
Same here. Lived and breathed the 80's. Sometimes I wish I had a time machine.
The time when people just live their lives and don’t give a f.. what you think!
Yup, out of all the years the 80s really did it for me :)
Yes.

80's style is coming back in 2020 I can feel it happening already.
It's been back for years lol, where ya been
It's been back for a while but now it's coming to the mainstream, just look at The Weeknd's newest song

Already happening, Cyberpunk 2077 will enforce this when released
I just released a synthpop song called "Unknown Love" if you check it out I hope you enjoy !
Can this kind of music please make a comeback?!?! Grew up in the 80s and this captures the time and feels!
This song showed up on HBO's Titans, (current) season 4 episode 2. They're on their bus at the end of the episode and I hear a familiar beat in the background...
It is!
Your jewish owners wont allow it.

have you listened to The 1975? "Happiness" to be exact. it's magical
I was born in 1972, grew up in the 1980's. Most of the best years, best memories of my life are from that magical decade. Even those older than me (parents age) agree. The 80's is a past that still feels like it's in the future. The 80's feels new even 35-40 years on. The 80's makes me feel young, it makes me look forward to years in life I no longer have in front of me. It makes me miss a girl that I've never met. It makes me believe in a future that's already passed me by. It's the impossible dream that still feels within reach.....
Very well said! '73 child here and it was a great decade to grow up in, absolutely no doubt about that.
'74 child here and all my best memories are from the late 70's and 80's, the music and feelings unique to that era I miss and will never let go of. I always thought id meet "that guy" and ride off into the sunset. Funny how we looked so forward to the future then and now all we want is to go back.
Yes totally how I feel about the 80s. You summed it up perfectly.
I feel the same even though I was born in 1993. It's so mysterious... maybe I grew up in the 80s, but died before I reached the 90s to be born again in 93
'69 child who luckily got to live through the 80s!
This feels like a song you would listen to as you're saying goodbye to the town you grew up in to start a new life somewhere else with nothing but the clothes on your back. Driving on a warm summer night as you're glimpsing the city lights in your rearview mirror.
I feel it.
very good description man.. one day i will do that
I feel like I had very similar experience of leaving like @UCuJP9929CmXuVi0tphCjhOwalthough It wasn't my choice. I had to leave love, sea, nature....as a kid. Pain seems to be natural. Right?
You could try listening to Fast Car by Tracy Chapman. I heard it a lot on the radio when we were on our last family vacation. That would be San Franciso, late July 1988, I was 17, never be stateside from Canada. A magical time.
Perfectly said Mr Chuppa!!!
This makes me incredibly nostalgic for a time and place I never knew...

28 years old, and I feel the same. 80s songs are magnificent. Newwave genre is my favourite one.
Its almost September of 2023, and im JUST discovering this song. Considering I've been driving around with this on repeat, tells me I'm diggin it. Soo good! 😂😂
That's about the time I found this song too, came up on the radio just as I was parking my car in some random neighbourhood. And it blew me away! It was a perfect warm Spring day (I'm in a different time zone, so it was Spring and not Autumn!). Later, I drove around and around with it on repeat, front windows wide open, foot down on pedal, hair flying in the wind. I felt like I changed somehow just from that one song...probably mostly because it took me back to my 'yearning teen' years. Definitely best to hear it only, and not to watch it as a video!
I’ve never replayed a song so much before.
Synth wave all the way brother
I have it on loop almost everyday! :)
Why did I just randomly find you on this video? LMAO
that's the power and charisma of synthwave.
"Usually I'm against the rape, but this replay button had it coming!" - Unknown
I'm 36 and this takes me right back to my perfect '80s childhood. The '90s were great too (with their own unique flavor), but the sound of the '90s happened to mirror my personal and family life, when everything fell apart internally and externally. These changes as a teenager consequently caused me to look back on the '80s as a total romantic, filled with memories of great toys and cartoons (Robotech, G.I. Joe, Transformers), my first video games (Atari, Commodore, NES and pizza parlor arcades), as well as MTV. I was constantly surrounded by music by my parents, whether I was getting taken to a concert in LA, or visiting dozens of record stores, seeing the crazy fashions, and soaking in the music of Talking Heads, Phil Collins, Peter Gabriel, Tears For Fears, The Smiths, U2, and so many more artists that were pushing technological and stylistic boundaries.
There is a sound here...those tinkling keyboards...the huge synth-drums...the heart-on-sleeve lyrics (before irony and apathy set in)...an innocence and vitality that is hard to ignore...The sound and feeling of hope and unbridled love. Thank you, FM-84, for briefly reviving something inside of my heart, every time I hear this.
well said
Right there with you, guy. Good memories of an almost magical time. Good call on the robotech.
I'm 36 too. Couldn't have said it better myself!
35 here too, totally agree!
nothing can beat a mind shaped by limited technology but limitless imagination sourced by memories gained in 80's childhood days. I do not think that any generation could feel this way.
I’m 47 years old and I’m in love with retro wave!
I'm 53yrs old. Just discovered this song in 2022! Don't know when it came out??
2016
If this song would've dropped in '84 it would've went triple platinum
It feels like a follow-up to "Send Me An Angel" by Real Life from 1983. Even the singer sounds similar.
I always say that when I hear something so good, but underrated.
We have to be carfeful, though... This is inspired by the best music from the 80's, along with all the knowledge and discoveries that came after, so it's like returning back to elementary school, nailing all the exams :D
I was an 80's teenager, this song is 100% in tune with my DNA, it is wonderful.

This is one of those rare songs that is melancholy, ulplifting, evocative, retro, modern and futuristic all at the same time.
It’s surprisingly simple on one level, but remarkably complex as well.
It triggers memories and emotions that you may or may not have had or dreams you only half recall and captures the cultural zeitgeist of an entire decade in an easy to digest format.
All this from a 4.5 minute pop song, quite amazing.
Aidan Doherty then you should try listening to ruclips.net/video/7iMzXcYdoMQ/видео.html

*It's true.,.. The future was 80s*
care to elaborate?
A lot of films in the 80's took place in what they believed would be the future
It really was. People from the 80s were quite naive, which made the future they thought of looks awesome. Simpler times too. Nowadays everyone is connected to the rest of the world, this brings a feeling of anxiety, everyone's worried all the time. I guess that's the price to pay for technology.
link9a link9a YESSSSSS!!!!!
This style of music has made its way into mainstream with artist like Taylor Swift, The Weekend and Lady Gaga. All artist I don't listen to but I noticed they all went with this sound in their latest hits.
This might end up being the sound of this decade. The 20's
_Imagine hearing this with your beloved one, when the sun hit's the golden hour_

This is great. We don't have to go back to 1980s. We can bring it here, now.
flawlessvic 😁
Correct!!!
that comment is so 80's :)
Indeed !
This song found the Beef.
I remember this kind of music. From a time when boys and girls didn't have to be 'plugged in' 24/7 in order to be cool, or 'relevant' or 'influencing'. When a bright summer's day at the cabin and a glimpse of a cute neighbor led to all kinds of innocent (and may be not so innocent) adventures.
Music from a time we could live our lives the way we wanted, without worrying about what our 'subscribers' and thousands of Facebook/Instagram/TilTok 'friends' thought about it.
Music from when we could really live for ourselves and be free. Truly free. It was dangerous. It was unpredictable. It was thrilling.
Couldn't Share it. Couldn't Download it. Couldn't Like or Dislike it. You could only Live It. In the moment.
I remember a time, when we were all Running in the Night.
Yeah, that’s the same time where no one would have had youtube or the ability to read your comment. Pretty ironic eh? Good times.
@@masonarcher2998 there are other ways to communicate your thoughts, they were existed back then also

Synthwave is love, synthwave is life.
Synth/retrowave... music technically not from the 80's but sounds like it should be, and is effin amazing. Need a decade that revives it. 2020-29 please be it.
I’m just chatting to a couple of the singers. I’m a uk based producer and I will get around to sorting myself out man. Keep sharing and loving guys cos it will come.
I feel the same buddy. We are all in the same boat and dreaming of this being our thing. End of the day though we don’t need world domination cos that’s when genres lose it. Just build the community and do gigs , some festivals. I can’t see why this can’t build a huge audience with songs like this. Even a few years later we are all still here listening. That says something man....
Get ya surfboard and I’ll see you guys out there , Back to the beach at sundown for a bbq fire and all the girls are coming, Beer is free. Fm 84 , Timecop and the midnight will be here about 22:30 to take us till sunrise ...
We can make that happen
@@VinylSamuraisMusic I'm totally from the 80's .... 14 in 1980, but culturally 80's lasted from cca, 1977 til 1992 ... I wish your wish comes true, but unfortunatelly it takes much much more in terms of circumstances for such miraculous decade to be spawned: Disco, ABBAesque europop and american soul of the 70's gave it the sense of rythm and melodiousness, punk gave it revolution and created an atmosphere of new generation (new wave), early electronic music and Kraftwerk gave it one of the two essential 80's instruments (synthisizers & sax) and of course an amazing sound of the future and heartwarming dystopia. The next thing happens and suddenly you'r in the middle of genrewise most diverse, opulent, bautiful decade ever.
But synthwave was popular in 2010's
Oh Yes, bring it back, --> BUT let's keep the scene semi-underground. I don't want to hear mainstream clueless pop-singers who aren't into this stuff only bringing it back because it's the new trend.
2020-forever please

Life was slow and warm in 80's. I live happily now but I miss those days of 80's. I was born in 1975.
When you look at 80's music with the gap of 40+ years, and if you were to take that same gap from the 80's to the 40's and the music sounds so ancient... 80's music is truly TIMELSS
i might be freaking out, but this song hits on me like it was literally my story with the girl i can call "my wife" today. we were teeneagers growing in the same town, building paths and standing together, but one day, she decides that her place wasn't there, she wanted to travel the world and change her life, but leaving me an open door to meet her plans. Then there was Me, a man that were rushing through a dream career and having everything planned inside the edge of my home country, suddenly decides to leave all behind and work hard on myself for a couple of months to reach her again. she kept what she promised and right now we are starting to live our dream life hand in hand in the other side of the world. By the time she left i listened to this song every day on my bike, riding through dark streets, trying to hold my tears and Facing the risk of abandoning everything I knew for love and a better life.
Run chicken run!!! 🎉

Ollie, although the 80's will live on into eternity, as it is in my opinion the best decade of music, you have certainly paid a great homage to that era in such a way that takes me right back there to that time. Truly an amazing time. You are an epic talent that has been able to bring old dreams to life. Keep it up my friend!
Seu comentário é tão lindo e verdadeiro!!!
this is the type of music that you just suddenly encounter and it became part of you everyday. and it`s just amazing
Man, this song really gets me flowing with complicated emotions.
Lol ikr thinking about a relationship I dont even have Haha
This song makes me cry so much, oh man
Blue Beauty exactly what I was thinking!
If this track was released in 1984 on MTV, it wouldve hit the nr1 spot easily for weeks.
Absolute hit
*Lyrics*
I used to be the one
I used to be your getaway dreamer
I couldn't get enough
Thinking that we would last forever
Don't know what you're thinking of
Slipping further out of reach
To the edge of town we could go
Away from all the world to see
You were wild trying to set yourself free
I didn't see the signs right in front of me
Oh, I'm running in the night so soon
I've got nothing left to lose
I'm leaving it all behind,
running in the night with you
I won't let you get away again
We can see it through to the end
But whatever we do
I'm running in the night with you
I used to be the one
I used to be your place to land
Under the shadows
Into the palm of my hand
You're always changing the situation
Just when we found paradise
You're always shutting down my conversation
I can never read your mind
Oh, I'm running in the night so soon
I've got nothing left to lose
I'm leaving it all behind,
Running in the night with you
I won't let you get away again
We can see it through to the end
But whatever we do
I'm running in the night with you
Ahh, ahh, ahh, ahh
Running with the night
Ahh, ahh, ahh, ahh
I'm Running with the night
I used to be the one
I used to be your getaway dreamer
I couldn't get enough
Thinking that we would last forever
Oh, I'm running in the night so soon
I've got nothing left to lose
I'm leaving it all behind,
Running in the night with you
I won't let you get away again
We can see it through to the end
But what ever we do
I'm running in the night with you
Ahh, ahh, ahh, ahh
Running with the night
Oh, I'm running in the night so soon
I've got nothing left to lose
I'm leaving it all behind,
Running in the night with you
Gracias Lizeth
Man hot girls do like good music :3 I really like all of u guys!
Thank you 🙏 I pretend I’m in the 80s picking up a lost love and on the run

up
I'm so jealous of this generation in 1 way that is painfully true as a 90s kid lol
I was too damn young to enjoy the full extent of what the 90s were
and now this generation gets to relive it in small little yet cool ways and I'm too
damn old now. I'm glad I got to have the early 2000s though but the 80s/90s seem to be the best ones
and where all the best music came from.
I was just watching Titans, season 4, episode 2 and heard this familiar tune playing in the background and got super excited! Totally AWESOME!!!!!
Can't believe it took me four years to come across this masterpiece!
LIKEWISE DUDE! IM MAD IT TOOK ME THAT LONG TO FIND THIS @*! 😂
A year later and I'm still playing it.
Good god, how could anything mainstream ever hope to compete with this?!
sixstanger00 preach !! Totally agree
2 years later and it's still not mainstream... Maybe someday
capitalize GOD, for GOD'S sake
Dude that is profound and true. Rock on.
@Epic-Gamer I wish I could give this comment infinite likes. You speak the truth, unfortunately.
Music is now a business. Radio and music on TV is irrelevant as you said. Success today is measured in the ability for someone to act as a cash cow and have their music manufactured like plastic in order to sell like crazy rather than relying on building themselves through dedication, talent or passion. Take a look at all these music talent shows like the X Factor and all that, it just shows how easy it is for some people to succeed. They win or do well in that show, they're propelled to stardom in less than a year.
The saving grace? Good music like this still exists out there because the likes of FM-84 and Ollie Wride still exist. People still make music because of their love for it, they can evoke emotions and break barriers. They don't get anywhere near the recognition that they deserve but they're out there and thankfully, they are.
Literally OBSESSED with this song!!!☺️👏❤️
Being a early 90s kid, I was always exposed to remnants of the 80s and always enjoyed it. Wish that was a time I got to experience..
Total 80s...almost in tears listning to this! totally captured the 80s vibe! outstanding!!
john atkinson tears is a good song by this same artist.
Why are you pointing out its got an 80's vibe? The whole intention of synthwave is to replicate 80's music
Those days love was always amazing
@@rujibuji458 no it’s not the 80s can never be replace that’s what you don’t understand
This might be one of the best songs I've ever heard.
It literally is my very best song i have ever heard, it’s just way too good
This song is SO important.
This song is THE SONG😅
@@raulgonzalezart6006 You said it Raul.
What I like about FM84 is that the vocals have a genuine Retro style, which is really just singing with range.
I’m only 16, but music like this will never leave my sight of interest.
Good for you, try with Timecop1983 or The Midnight
timecop1983 - cruise you will love it for sure
Try The Midnight Memories 👍

Learn from the 80s that’s the key to the future
This 80's nostalgia is dangerously hypnotic with beautiful songs like this. It makes me want to pack up and head west to find beaches and a sunny life. Beautiful girls who spin in the rays of the sun light while ocean waves crash against sandy beaches.
A minha felicidade em saber que há uma vertente musical que visa reproduzir na atualidade a melhor década de todos os tempos. Viva os anos 80!
Muito legal

The return to song. To remember how much is changed and nothing is from more distance
2:24 - 3:23 those beautiful shots, changing from an ocean sunset, to a city night with the melancholic music is just.. perfect
Bring back the 80's ☺️
I’m not playing GTA6 unless this song is on the radio
This song is my Top 1 synthwave music😭
Damn, 6 months later and this song still gives me goosebumps
Brian Reeves
👍👍😎
2 years later and almost a half later
;)
so damn 80s, it hurts so good to listen to it. love it, thanks Ollie for writing and releasing this beautiful song.
Only just discovered this gem of a track tonight. Amazing tune. Big up from Norway ❤️
Takes me back to the 80s... at least in an alternative universe.
Its better now , you can have the best of the past and the present
@@reikonusumaki9084 Thanks for the reply.
However, I disagree. I would rather live in the 80's again. Not even close.
More coke? Or not responsabilities as kid hehe jk , good 👍
@@reikonusumaki9084 I prefer a simpler time, no social media, no cell phones, no internet, the world was a mystery, feeling safe your kids could play outside, no wokeness, men were men, women were women, people loved America, we were patriotic, we didn't worship debauchery and we didn't accept groomers.
GREAT THEME! Who else is still listening this song in 2020??
Here man......
Will be listening to the end of time! :)
Me

please just create a band with him on vocals. his voice is incredible.
Thank you so much, we're working on it x
Ollie Wride So excited! Yaaasss. ❤
DEFINITELY great combo with synth wave !
They made one: The Midnight, in case you still need it.
it came up by chance years ago, it catched me immediately and was my entry into RetroWave. On a Friday afternoon, after work my colleagues and me sat together for a weekend beer, and the question came up "what do you currently hear in music?" And I selected thie beautiful track.
The thing in my case it is that I am different that most of the people at my age at liking this type of music, at talking different, in this case people just dont want to share with you (me).
This songs at some points for me represents at scale of emotions, joy, sadness and perhaps thar if I would lived in that time, will be way much better for me
Pretty much same thing with me
i feel so cheap not having paid for this masterpiece!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You still can my friend x
Ollie Wride
you are a gem. thank you
