Nice overview of the manual focusing assists available with this lens on Fujifilm X cameras! I have this lens (and a X-T5) and my favorite technique is to turn “focus check” on, and use a fullscreen punch-in zoom. Personally I need the punch-in zoom to be fullscreen because my eyes are not that great, and the small zoomed-in patch on the side doesn’t work for me. I understand people who dislike the fullscreen punch-in zoom because it hides the full scene, but in practice with the electronic contacts and the right settings the experience is pretty good: 1. Start framing your shot normally. 2. Nudge the focus tab to turn on punch-in zoom, and get your focus right. 3. Half-press the shutter release button to turn off punch-in zoom, and tweak your framing. 4. Take the shot. Compared to the other manual lenses I have, the electronic contacts save me one step (pushing a button to enable punch-in zoom), making the whole process a bit more streamlined. (Of course if you want even more streamlined and much faster, go with cameras with great AI autofocus and lenses with fast and precise focus motors. ^^) A couple extra tips for people who use the punch-in zoom for manual focus. At least on the X-T5: - There are 4 zoom levels available (I think the default is the second one?), and you can change the zoom level live using the back wheel. - You can change what part of the frame is zoomed in, using the joystick. I usually don’t need those options, but once in a while they’re handy.
@@gaprofitt No, I find it distracting and not super accurate (critical focus is narrower than what the focus peaking highlights suggest, in my experience).
Good overview! I'm using this lens on my x-pro3 with OVF and ERF patch. I've set the patch to display the focus point with maximum magnification (you can adjust this from the full image to only the focus point) and I'm using a black and white film simulation with the red peaking. Works great for street shooting!
I've had my Voightlander 27mm f/2 lens for about a month and it took me several outings to arrive at my settings to get the most from manual focusing. Like you, I've concluded that manual focus assist is the way to go on my X-T3. I have turned off the red peaking, making the display clear and sharp for composing and determining if exposure compensation is needed. The neat thing about the punch-in MF assist is two things: first, you can still use the joystick to move the focus point around the frame for off center compositions and when you touch the focus tab, that part of the frame zooms in, making sure the important elements are in focus. Second, while the punch-in zoom is displayed, you can vary the scale of the image by use of the thumb wheel, allowing critical focus. I'm now at about 2000 images with my Voightlander lens and just this weekend photographed a parade event in town with a success rate that was equal to anything I could have got with AF. This lens is terrific and I'm sure that I'll be picking up the 18mm version when it hits the stores.
Hey Tudor! Nice Video. I‘m also owning the xpro3. For me the best experience is also the punsh in zoom. It gives me the manual feel but with a rangerinder experience. Everything else didn‘t work for me. I only have the 35mm f2 and am thinking about staying with the fujicrons or switching to voigtländer. :-)
So 27mm is my favorite focal length. I already have the XF 27mm f2.8 and the Viltrox 27mm f1.2. I also have a TTArtisan 35mm f1.4 that I love using for the manual focus experience. It just helps me slow down and enjoy the process. I want to use the Viltrox for its quality, but it's heavy, and want to love the XF but its manual focus experience is not great. Am I crazy for thinking about getting this Voigtlander and replacing one of my other 27mm lenses? Also, thanks for that tip on the new view mode when set to manual focus, I did not know you could have both the full frame and the window with 100% crop. That's super handy! I also wish that we had a setting that allowed us to use focus peaking while focusing, and when we half-pressed the shutter it would all go away so we could properly look at the image preview. But with this new split view that may not even be necessary, thanks!
I found out that with Leica M mount lenses (if rangefinder-coupled) I can get the same focusing and framing experience in my XPRO-2 OVF. That was a true blast. Awesome experience and absolute value. Will share if it also works with Voigtländer Fuji X lenses, if I ever decide to go for one of them (I still prefer to go for the Leica M mount that I can also use on my FF Sony camera)
It's a shame you didn't provide how to set the camera parameters for a manual lens. In Fuji, it's not that simple. On the X-T50, I spent a few hours figuring it out.

Do you use focus peaking as well with the punch in zoom?

I’m using my Voigt 35mm 1.5 Ultra Vintage Line on my XT5 and absolutely LOVE IT. Took it off my M6 for a little while.
split image is also available on my xt3. i owned now 3 voitlander lenses save the 50mm because i stick on my fuji 56mm. it helps. thank you very much!

What lens are you using?
What about 23 f 1,2? What´s your opinion?
It seems ok, from my research.
Great advice, thank you very much!
Do you think these 27mm f2 would work with the x-e1, x-m1 or x-pro1?
It's working but without exif data... So no auto zooming
Thanks for the tips
It's a shame you didn't provide how to set the camera parameters for a manual lens. In Fuji, it's not that simple. On the X-T50, I spent a few hours figuring it out.
Ah, I was so accustomed doing this that I forgot 😁
It's not a true rangefinder if the camera does not have a rangefinder. Ugh that grinds my gears
Love my 35mm f1.2 Voighty ❤️
Good choice!
does it work with XE-3 ?
Yes it's working but does not show exif data
I think you'll keep this lens indefinitely right? It's an interesting lens not many brave enough to invest in my area
Yes, I really love the lens!
Does anyone just use zone focussing with this lens?
Yes, and it's ok
