    I had the 23 1.2 voigtlander and was able to get great results at 1.2. However, I agree if it had weather sealing and a more accurate scale it would be worth the cost. Lastly , I do appreciate that it has actual electronic contacts which the Chinese brands seldom do.

    Subscribed! Splendid shots! I think the thing with the Voigtlaenders is that they correct for parallax and report aperture to an X-Pro. I've been using L-mount sometimes with adapted Voigtlaenders, but still have an old Fuji kit that I love.
    When I first got an X-Pro1 I loved it, but I'd previously been using a 50mm Nokton on a Sony, and although the Fuji was a massive improvement on the Sony, obviously the Fuji lenses couldn't compete with Voigtlaender in build. When the X-Pro4 comes out I'll definitely be going for a set of these. I like the idea of all the integration, and the lenses being tuned for the sensor. Probably the 50mmF1.2 for old times the Apo-Ultron macro; and the 27mmF2 pancake.

    I'm thinking of getting this lens. Right now I'm using my newly purchased Voigtlander Super Wide Heliar 15mm f4.5 (Leica thread mount) on my Fuji X-T3, and I just thought how amazing it would be if they made a native Fuji X version of that. :D

    The issue I have with this, and the Ultron Lens, (apart from the price) is the focusing ring scale: 1m straight to Infinity which isn’t helpful for Zone Focusing/Street Photography.
    I have been pleasantly surprised by the TT Artisan 23mm f1.4 (with focus marks at 1m, 2m, 5m then Infinity) plus it only cost me £100!

      I spent last week in Lisbon doing street photography with this lens and my Xpro-1, really loved it. I don't know if it's worth the money if you buy one new, but if you can find a second hand in excellent condition like mine for 400/450€ it's really a good deal. The electronic contact may value the 600€ if you have a Xpro-3 or newer cameras with compatibility.
      I love Voigtländer lenses, i've also got the 35mm f1.4 m mount and it's a banger. Worth every penny.

      @Tom-Humble I agree, it's a common problem on voigt lenses. I've tried 35mm Nokton and Color-Skopar (M mounts) ; and 27mm + 23mm (X mounts). All of them focus past infinity. Some in internet says it's to compensate the possible deformation of the lens in extreme conditions like really hard temperature or altitude. But I don't think so. Other manufacturers like Leica or Zeiss have perfect infinity stop so apparently it is possible to do 🤷🏽‍♂️ Annoying but still very usable, it don't matter for me, I like this lens. Particularly with range focusing, at f8 you have so much zone of relative focus, set at 2m you almost have from 0.7m to infinity in relative focus, really good for street photography.

    I can see a big difference in look, but not many would know or care...its worth the extra in cost, but only to certain people.
    1) people rich enough not to care.
    2) people who don't already own the 7artisans or ttartisans
    3) who just love Viogtlander and won't mind the cost.
    There are other lenses voigtlander makes that Ill buy first cause I have the 7artisan

    Great review and lovely shots. I was considering this lens a few months ago, but the price is the same as a native autofocus lens and I just couldn't justify it. I have ended up opting to adapt a Nokton Classic 35mm f1.4 instead.

      It was a joy to use but I sold it on for the same reason. I think I actually slightly preferred the look to the images from my 7artiasns lens as well and it’s less than a 5th the price!

      @@Tom-Humble just got the Nokton Classic today and tried it out for a few hours. Love the character. The flares are lovely obviously, but it also has that 3D look when you stop down. Another similar budget lens to the 7Artisans is the TTartisan 25mm f2 - I actually shot a wedding video with it, I liked the character so much, the only issue is that it's a bit small and fiddly for focus. I love the TTartisan 50mm f1.2 as well, very useable at close range wide open, and from f2 for subjects further away.

    Appreciate the vid Tom. I've just purchased a personal camera again in the way of an X-pro3 and am buzzing to use it. Looking for a manual street lens. Really want a 28mm (FF equiv) or 35 like this if I have too. I love Voigtlanders stuff. Only lens I have so far (i kept when selling all my Fuji) is the 7art 35 0.95. So I want a wide for street. Contemplating the new 18 2.8 from Voigtlander but not sure....

    • @Tom-Humble
      @Tom-Humble  4 месяца назад

      I've heard good things about the Voigt 18mm 2.8 actually. One thing to consider is that the 23mm doesn't actually stop at infinity focus, which means you have to dial it back a bit for sharp landscapes etc. If you like to shoot manual for landscapes or street the 18mm actually does stop at infinity so no need to keep checking focus!

    There's a brand out of Hong Kong called Artralab that make replica vintage lenses and they have a 24mm f1.4 Nikon replica for fuji x mount that I really want. £225 so about the right price range for that sort of thing but always sold out which is a gutter. Been so tempted to get a Voigty but agreed on price, it's putting me off a bit for how much I'll probably use it

    Good day Mr. Humble. We just can’t go wrong with most lens options these days can’t we ? In terms of sharpness, contrast and colour saturation most lenses for sale are possibly neck to neck. Sometime towards end of last year i found myself in a unexpected position being able to afford any number of cameras and lenses. Its a far cry from my beginnings working with the NHS & having my meals at Canary Wharf and Peckham pop ups. Reflecting upon this i decided to stay true and purchase another new Leica film body and a 50mm Summilux and 28mm Elmarit instead of the Noctilux which i had a brief period of using. Most people remain satisfied when a lens is tack sharp with the accompaniment of added contrast without looking further. I feel its unfair to judge image quality with the barest of attributes such as above. The best lenses have a certain je ne sais quoi. Subtlety present in its rendering with a beautiful tonality. I’ve found this present in the 50mm Summilux. Although i say this with great trepidation since Leica has achieved connotations of elitism and exorbitance. I look forward to receiving the 35mm APO in about 6 months from now. My regards to you, the inimitable Mrs. Humble and the kids. Thanks for the video and its great being able to hear your opinions and voice again. Stay humble ( and i mean both of us)

      @@Tom-Humble Mr. Humble, i left the UK sometime in 2020 to return to my country. Coincidentally just before the first cases of Covid were reported in the UK. At that time, living costs and crime were veering upwards. I was never accosted or the victim of assault perhaps because i usually dressed down but witnessed many acts of violence including a stabbing at Bethnal Green and Camden, unruly teenagers banding together as gangs threatening people till the Met were called in etc. Perhaps the atmosphere of fear, cruelty & care for one’s life has made most Londoners frigid and unapproachable. I am now ensconced in warmer climes in the state of Perak about an hours drive from the island of Penang. There maybe no Sunday Roasts or a local tipper which i sometimes miss but food is bountiful and plenty. Malay, Chinese and Indian food bringing sheer variety in a day. I reside in a place where my services are needed. A far cry from working in King’s where a cold sandwich and a rushed coffee started off the day. My son ( my second child ) was born in November last year Tom. Which precludes any overseas visits for a time. I had a recent exhibition at the Grand Palais for a selection of my images and sold about 28 prints ranging between 125-130 euros. Which is something out of the ordinary for me. Though i did not attend the show. Perhaps sometime after middle age when family responsibilities are less important may have the chance to return to the UK for a visit. I also lived in Birmingham and Blackpool for a time.

    Other than price the biggest issue with this lens is the field curvature. Wide open (or close to) you won't be able to notice it. Those thinking this will provide supreme IQ across the frame stopped down will be disappointed with 'muddy' sections within the the frame (often near the middle). So for me this is a one trick pony kind of lens, definitely offering superb results with genres like portraiture (as you competently show here), but as a do-it-all walk around 35mm equivalent lens it lacks versatility and fails to meet branding IQ standards. And so the price now seems really inflated when factoring in its weaknesses. I agree, if it were half the price or shave 2/3rds the price off, it would already be in my bag, but as is it's a tough sale.

      @@Tom-Humble Oh good question! Well, there are two. The first is the Takumar 50/1.4(8 element). Although it shines best on FF, it is not at all half bad on APS-C. I even went to the trouble of obtaining the 'Fotodiox Pro PRONTO Autofocus Adapter' which gives the M42 Takumar lens some basic autofocus ability!
      The second would be that IBELUX Kipon 40mm f0.85 (yes EIGHT.FIVE). Truly a gorgeous lens and a very unique look for X mount.

    To put things in perspective “if this lens was priced around $200 to $300 it would be more viable……” the name Voigtlander would then be in the trash can. But because it’s a Voigtlander it should have a premium price tag attached to it so when you buy one you know you are getting something special. It’s the same with Rolex. Just imagine if Rolex watches were priced between $200 and $300……. you wouldn’t be able to show it off and your enthusiasm would also drop

    • @Tom-Humble
      @Tom-Humble  2 месяца назад +1

      Yes but Rolex deliver on quality.
      I am an avid Voigtlander user and advocate. Their 58mm 1.4 lens is magic as is their 40mm f2 and many more.
      But from my perspective this lens is not of the same quality. Because of that it should be cheaper.
      If Rolex released a crap casio watch and put their label on it I’d say the same thing.
